This review is based solely on my experience and personal opinion. We went to H-Mart on Tuesday, 10/5/21. we are regular customers and I was waiting for this whole Covid pandemic to be gone to write a review so that it would be more accurate. We do Love H-Mart and we go there at least once a week, which means I know the store very well and I know the staff just as well. They do have EVERYTHING that an Asian supermarket should have, you just have to find it. They have so much stuff that not even the workers know where to find specific products. Every time it feels like a small adventure, every time we discover something new we did not see the time before. From a food-knowledge point of view we grew alot by coming here. Know I know food that Ignored the existence of for half of my life. Awesome! but Ill be more specific in the following description:THE PRODUCE DEPARTMENT: well stocked and with plenty of choice. The overall feeling is of a department displaying and selling quality produce, fresh and selected. they have ORGANIC produce available if you fancy buying that. You will find a 60 of produce that is Asian style and a 40% of produce that is western style. Many weird-looking fruit and vegetable to discover and acknowledge.THE MEAT DEPARTMENT: well stocked and with plenty of choice. Especially if you are looking for delicious marinated meat. Alot of pork meat, chicken, beef and other types of meat.THE SEAFOOD DEPARTMENT: probably their strong side... their seafood department is a a mind trip. You really do feel like you are in one the many fish markets in Bangkok... just amazing. They have live freshwater fish in large blue tanks, live mollusks and crustaceous in tanks and plastic crates and a wide range of fresh/frozen seafood. PLENTY of choice!THE SUSHI SECTION: They have a small restaurant inside the store, that we found out 1 year later, lol. They have a big selection of Fresh Sushi and many other cooked meals, cooked warm food. you can sit down and enjoy the delicious food they make. we like their Sushi. especially the fresh sashimi trays. Just do not go to the Restaurant after 7pm as you wont find much.THE BEER and WINE SECTION: They have a small selection of Wine and beer, just the essential for a sophisticated dinner.THE BEVERAGES DEPARTMENT: They have a big beverage section well stocked, with many Asian style drinks.THE HEALTH and BEAUTY SECTION: The store itself does not have much, but inside there are two small shops where you can definitely find that.PHARMACY: The store has a TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE pharmacy, but you have to know what you are looking for as they have no clue.THE BACKERY DEPARTMENT: The store itself does not carry western style bakery products but inside there is a small bakery shop /Coffee shop where you can buy amazingly delicious bakery products and cakes, and a cappuccino if you fancy that.THE FROZEN PRODUCTS DEPARTMENT: well stocked and with plenty of choice, especially Asian style products.THE KITCHEN SECTION: They have quite a few isles filled with kitchen products that you can explore and enjoy.THE FRONT END AND CASHIERS: mostly Asian, cashiers speak little English, they do not smile or welcome you, but they are kind and say thank you when you pay.THE CURBSIDE and DELIVERY SECTION: They do not have Curbside service and they do not offer delivery service.STAFF: mostly Latinos, they are kind and friendly, but often they do not know where products are. associates you see in the isles do not really interact much and wont understand you.CLEALINESS: always clean and neat/tidy. You wont find a single messy isle.PLACE: The store is big, modern look, well organized and easy to navigate. they have a big parking lot with 24/7 security. they have plenty of shopping carts, both small and big.LOCATION: Chinatown district, west-Houston.PRICES: They are more expensive than the other Asian markets around Chinatown, but the quality of their products is also higher than the competitors.CONCLUSION: We love H-MART! You will too.

Depending on the time your coming here parking can get pretty packed, some people just dont know how to park and take up 2 lanes . Going into the market there absolutely no social distancing anywhere! Everyone is so close to each other I had to turn around and tell the person to not stand so close to me at the checkout lane. Some people just cough not even covering there mouth. I dont care whether its pandemic or flu going around... No stranger should stand so close to you. I wouldve given your store 5 stars because the quality of the food but your store absolutely doesnt have signs up for other customer to know its not right to stand so close nor cough everywhere without covering themselves. Otherwise quality and freshness of your food is always on point.

A good place to go for traditional Asian products. The seafood, meat and produce departments are fresh and well-stocked. The cookware section has some hard to find items. Though I havent tried it yet, but the food court has a multi-cultural selection of pre-cooked foods. A bakery is also available. The store is very organized and clean - the number one criteria on my list. Highly recommended.

Even though the place is under renovation and the lobby is located oddly on the 3d floor, the rooms were extremely clean and the shuttle took us everywhere within 2 miles which was 90 % of everything we wanted to visit. Had a hard time getting ahold of any staff on the phone but I could always find them at the front desk. Also the front desk clerk gladly accommodated my kiddos ask for a high floor room. This is by far the most repulsive H mart I have ever been to. Expect to smell old produce and seafood in the air. The lack of sanitation is evident. I dont do SW Houston for a number reasons, but after a friend said the Korean community was thriving there, I cared very little, until I accepted a dinner invite and got my mind blown? It wasnt the tea shops, restaurants nor massage parlors. It was Hmart! When I walked in I was like this is what an Asian Whole Foods must look like. I was impressed with the design, the cleanliness and the selection. It was very impressive. I learned, saw and touch numerous food items from all over the world, but mainly Asia and specifically Korea. Even, if you dont need the ingredients for an authentic Korean dish, you need to go for the life changing aura a grocery store done well can provide-it was grocery store heaven & nirvana rolled into one. I will be back.

While I admit that this market has very good food selections and is sort of well organized, I will not be returning. The customer service is abysmal. My aunt wanted to buy a portable grill (which costs $120 after taxes) and asked a sale associate if she could see the size, this lady got quite agitated and said: no opening, we have model in the front! So we went to the front and ask the customer service guy DANIEL DAO... He acted extremely annoyed like we disrupted his leisure time or something. Could we please see the display model of this grill? Sorry no I dont know. One lady told us to come here and ask I dont know.Hmmm. I asked him about return policy, at first he didnt even want to answer me. Buyers please beware! Their return policy is very shady. While we could not see the grills dimension and they offer a 14-day return policy, this Daniel Dao person said, you can only return if it does not work. If you dont like how it looks and change your mind, we wont accept!HMMMMM... shady... If management is reading this, please train this Daniel Dao person again or remove him from customer service dept :) His attitude is too much to take! And if what he said about return policy is true, please also stop being shady and write this clearly so we would not have to disturb the customer service guys leisure time at work. :)

This very clean Korean store has everything (well almost): fresh seafood in tanks (including the elusive geoduck), sushi grade sashimi, preseasoned meat for BBQ, fresh produce, many types of grains and beans, seasoning and spices, specialty skincare products, household goods, dry spicy noodles, etc. Some aisles are East meets West feel with traditional Asian housewares, cooking appliances placed opposite American toiletries. Also worth mentioning is the food court, which sells more Chinese style cafeteria food, BBQ duck/pork, and some bancha. What I hope management will consider stocking are the typical Vietnamese herbs such as Vietnamese coriander, mint, Thai basil, perilla, etc. Understandable that they cant cater to every culture, but it would be unwise to ignore the largest Asian minority group (Vietnamese) in town. If in doubt, look no further than the local HEB by that part of the city which sells jackfruit and bean sprouts, to name a few.

Go here often to get my groceries but our experience last night was not as pleasant. We were in a rush and got our groceries ready for the cashier to check out. But she were too busy chatting with the dudes before me, and apparently were waiting for the other guy to get back because he forgot something. Get back in line if you forgot your groceries, not putting it ON HOLD while there was a long line behind you. And god blessed it was the cashier that suggested him she’d put him on hold. Alright, it was okay up until this point. Things happened and I understand. But please she was being super talkative with him. However when it was our turn to check out, not even a HELLO, THANK YOU was said. NOTHING ! It was very rude and impolite of her to do so. She did not even tell my friends ( who were too busy bagging her OWN GROCERIES) the total amount. I had to tell my friend after awhile cause she did not acknowledge that. When it came to my turn, same thing. No greetings, no thank you, no telling me the amount either. I paid in cash and handed her money, she caught it pretty aggressively and gave me change without saying anything. What kind of service is this ????I never know H mart has this policy where your cashiers could only act a certain ways to guys 🙃🙃

Sometimes you want the gritty and disheveled ethnic market steeped with the tradition and culture of the people who present it. Other times you want something a bit more polished with a larger selection and up to date options. HMart is both...minus the gritty disheveled feel. Clean, bright and polished this market has it all. With several locations within or close to large Asian communities, my favorite is the one off W Sam Houston on Bellaire. Curtious staff present a wide selection of fresh and frozen food associated with numerous Asian cultures. You may find prime rib or pork belly in other stores in Houston but you wont find it I the array of widths and thicknesses for hot pot or table top barbeque as at HM. The produce is mind boggling. I not only found bok choy but 5 different types and sizes along with other hard to find ethnic vegetables. Incredible spice selection as well as seasoning mixes for those who arent quite at from scratch or just dont feel like its a cooking adventure that deep. Great seafood with items not found anywhere else in Houston. Do note rare items such as certain clams may not always be in stock. If you are a fan of spicey noodles HMart carries more than your average assortment. You will find an entire wall of different types of noodles many with more than the generic boullion packs but multiple packs of oils, sauces and seasoning per each pack. Pot stickers and dumplings... I have not purchased the grocery store prepared dumplings nor desired to order them in a restaurant since finding HM. Vegetable, pork, chicken, shrimp or beef dumplings also have their own section. Want to go all the way authentic, modern rice cookers to traditional woks and cookware are sold along with tableware and beautiful ethnic eating utincils. The HMart experience is to massive to describe, you have to see it for yourself. When you finish have a treat in the in-store bakery with the best blend of French/Asian pastries you can find. A selection of sweet or savory is offered. Did I mention they have a beauty supply store located inside. You will find full lines of hard to find mid to expensive Korean brands like my favorite Laniege here. The prices are the same or slightly lower than online retailers like Sephora or Ulta plus you pay no shipping if you need one or a lower price item. P.S. do enjoy the large samples, great prices and the incredibly cool 70s R&B that is forever pumping gently through the sound system😊
