Walmart would have been a better choice than Builder Surplus. After exchanging a door and paying a restocking fee. Alan (a poor excuse of a manager) insulted my intelligence with attempting to convince me that I didn’t pay a restocking fee although I have a receipt which clearly states RETOCK FEE! This was Alan’s way to try and keep the fee by making up a lie. I cannot believe these place is even in business employing people like Alan then making him a manager.I’m convinced 90% of these five star reviews here are FAKE. Because there’s absolutely no way how Alan responded to me with the lies and the mispronouncing my name after I corrected him twice. Alan’s immediate response was “WHATEVER” is not isolated. Poor customer service is a culture at Builder Surplus and I can guarantee they won’t be in business for the long term by maintaining such a tradition.*Note: If you pay close attention to the store’s responses to the negative comments. There’s no accountability just excuses and defenses without ever addressing the written complaint. Prime example of what I mean when I say poor customer service is a culture here. I’m curious what the employees who work there go through. Harassment, Neglect, Discrimination, and overall workplace dysfunction.

Love shopping here - I can get windows, doors, flooring, cabinets...and all at contractors pricing! Every time I have walked into the store, I have been helped/assisted and the staff is friendly and courteous. I have had interaction with one of the managers, Alan and he was able to get creative and help me with a major issue I was having with a problematic door. I highly recommend Builders Surplus!

I would like to say their prices are very competitive yet their customer service is lacking. I have returned a few items in the past because the items were not right. I recently bought a sink from them and it didnt come with all the pieces to install it. When I went to return it they would not let me return it for something else. I will not be shopping here in the future until they make the changes to treat there customers with better service. Im sure this is a local issue and totally a local Manager issue. I advise to be very careful shopping here if you choose to do so. I advise not to shop here. I emailed upper managers and they would even respond. Yeah.. Great customer service!

I will echo many of the other sentiments expressed here with regard to customer service - unequivocally the worst experience Ive ever had.They managed to send the wrong door not once, but twice.The second door they sent me - which is still not the actual door I ordered, has: (1) a large gap all the way around the wooden trim and the glass and (2) glue spilling out of the aforementioned gaps.Instead of offering to make this right, their proffered solution was that I could pick up a piece of glass from their store and install it myself....Ive literally never experienced customer service this bad.

We went to Builders Surplus to look for cabinets after the Houston freeze. We spoke to John (grumpy old man with the bandana) who was super helpful in our search. We placed our order and now have a 3 week wait for assembly (worth the $25 per cabinet if youre busy) and cant wait to install them. Well update with pictures once we get our cabinets in.I see a review that the pricing is the same as a big box store. We priced at Builders Surplus and Home Depot and found the quality to be much better at Builders Surplus and pricing cheaper.

Very Disappointed. Ordered a many doors for our new home build. My builder dropped the ball on following up on a door that was warped. I am now trying to fix the situation myself. I have been told now four times that I would be called back. I have sent two emails with no response. I really hope to get this resolved since I have a 1/4 gap in more door. The prices were very competitive but the customer service is very lacking.

I ordered a 72 inch vanity with a backsplash. There was poor communication letting me know when the vanity was ready for pick-up. I had to call a couple times to verify when it was ready.Also - FYI - they do not have 72-inch backsplashes (only 60 inch), so you have to find a third party to glue two pieces together and cut the ends.

Terrible customer service. They dont care about their customers at all. Very rude. Everything is overpriced. No savings on anything at all. Might as well go to Home Depot.

Builder Surplus has tons of items but not much customer service. All employees are always super busy and literally has only one guy that can serve in the kitchen area. You have to wait for a long daunting time for him to be available. Items are limited to what they have and not much flexibility. Prices are not cheaper its pretty much comparable to other stores like Lowes floor and decor etc.

EDITED: called back and they said they’d read my review. They had me come pick up a new square sink - which had no damage on top - but manufacturer imperfections on the bottom (namely, a big chip). They actually ended up trying to resolve the issue - which I appreciate - but it shouldn’t have had to come to a Google review to get somewhere.Terrible. This store does not care about clientele. I went to go buy a vanity that is advertised with a square sink as a “combo unit” and after I bought it, the sink they brought out was a round sink. The associate told me that they were out of square sinks and told me I could take the sample or I could take the round sink. I took the sample, and upon bringing it home, see that it has chips at the bottom and a scratch. I called the store and the associate told me “I cannot do anything for you”, even though they advertise a product as such. This is very poor customer service. I will not be coming back for my other needs.

They don’t need customer for sure. I have been buying a lot of stuff from this store but decide to give them 1 star just because of the customer service from them.There is no return on this store and stuffs are cheap depend on what you are looking for sometimes.Everyone is nice but today I bought a window and didn’t check for it before they put it on my truck when drive home there was a little crack on the side not really easy to see. I call the store and they refuse to exchange and said that was my fault for not checking it before buying.It could be my fault and the window cracked on the way home.I gave them 1 star just because of the way the guy speaking on the phone with customer. They have a lot of customer already so they are afraid of losing oneMy recomend if you come here is double check the price and check your stuffs carefully before they load it up.

We bought porcelain tile yesterday and we were picking up today. Mind you the hour and half wait that we had to endure yesterday, today I called to make sure that we could pick up tile even though we had misplaced the receipt. The guy that answered the phone provided the invoice and I stated that we were an hour away. He said ok. We arrive at the location before they closed and all the guys were pilled around the door, waiting on 6 o’clock to lock the doors. My husband went in to let them know that we were there to pick up the tile and he was bombarded with bad attitude and negative remarks of them stating that they would not load the tile. Of course my husband was agitated because he was received in that manner. So he asked for a refund of the tile and told them that they just lost his business along with the business of his 18 clients, as he is a contractor in the greater Houston area.

Staff was rude and not helpful at all. Treated me like I wasn’t worth their time. Was looking for two 8ft tall doors and the rep said they only had barn style doors, nothing else in stock. I asked if I could talk with the person that orders doors to show him what I’m looking for since they didn’t have any glass doors in stock to see if anything could be ordered from their website. The person helping me said “no, he doesn’t come out of his office to the warehouse” 5 min later, I see him on the warehouse floor, he is the manager. I ask if they have any doors with glass and right in the front was a set of two. The representative quotes me 600 for two doors they actually did have in stock the whole time. The manager comes over and says “no those are actually 960”. Well I went to door clearance center just up the road and got the exact same doors for $500... (model # Model: CP-1L-8). Door Clearance Center was much friendlier and spent time with me to look at door options, highly recommend taking your business there and not getting ripped of by Builders Surplus. Zero stars if I could.

Some of the help are not knowledgeable and dont appear to be trained in certain areas. I calledIn advance to verify that yall had what i needed, but when I arrived I was told someone else told me your store did not have the doors. I finally found what I needed and C Manley was a great help at checkout. I almost gave up and left at first but i got what I needed but it took to long and was unnecessarily frustrating to be misinformed and to much time was wasted Thanks Ill be back if i need to.

Good products, but poor customer service.The staff seemed uninterested in assisting us. We had a difficult time getting someone to help us with our purchase. Despite the sign on the door, requiring COVID-19 masks for employees and customers, some employees were not wearing masks. We had to ask our sales person to put on a mask. After that, he was disengaged and barely said anything.

The store manager at the Houston location (Chad?) had his floor associate, then assistant manager speak with me in lieu of doing it personally. Even as I waited for the assistant manager to fully load a customers truck. I take my stand with this internet post, no more builders surplus for me. Big box, Wayfair/Amazon/Build.com all have better service and as good of pricing.

Bought all new flooring here and some cabinets! Amazing prices and customer service! Every time we came into the store there was always a smiling face greeting us and always someone asking if we needed help. The floors turned out fantastic and I love them so much! I called 2-3 times and left a message to the person to call me back but no one called back....Prices are good. First time buying at this location. I know sales are final but I was lied to or giving the wrong door. I was looking for a 60X80 door and was told by kzumm that he had the right door for me and that it would fit perfect and that it would open on the left side. When the guy that was going to install my door did the measurements it was 65X80 and opens to the right. Thanks kzumm! $800 down the drain.

I bought 17 solid pine doors. 5 of them separated after 2 months and would not close. The company blamed the painter who stained them and refused to take responsibility for poorly built doors. All 17 doors were stained exactly the same. I have had multiple carpenters look at these doors and all said poorly built. Spend the extra money and buy from a reputable door company. Eric in Houston store will use every excuse and refuses to do the right thing and replace the doors. 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

Good place for certain building materials such as doors, baseboards, cabinets, bathroom items, and other stuff. They do have reasonable prices. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Showroom is in the warehouse which can get a little warm in the summertime, however they do have fans throughout the warehouse to cool you off. Overall a pretty good place to consider if you are in the market for the items or material they carry.

Great selection and friendly staff! We have been 3 or 4 times and every single time were asked if we needed any help within minutes of arrival. That never happens at the orange or blue big box stores. We purchased two wood exterior doors for a great price. Why would you shop anywhere else for doors? AMAZING! So happy to have found this store! They had everything that I was looking for. Great flooring choices. I was looking for the wood-look tile and they had just exactly what I was wanting. It looks great in my house. Also bought 3 new vanities with beautiful granite tops for my bathrooms. They have a cool kitchen design center that I was able to design my own custom kitchen in, including the counter top. There were so many options. My kitchen is to die for now! Most of all, the customer service was fantastic. I spoke with a couple of different salesmen, they were all very knowledgeable. I was able to complete the remodel on my house and it looks great. I will always use Builders Surplus, and I will encourage anyone else to do the same!

We came to builders Surplus looking for a nice exterior door and a back door with blinds. The man in the red bandana met us at the door and knew every thing that he had in stock absolutely everything. It was a good experience all the way through. We bought one door and will order a Mission style to be made. It’s a little hard to find that stay with it, it’s worth it!

Attention: Eric Lynch. Spartacus, Mardi and Kevin are the best! Helpful and pleasant. Especially Spartacus. He has a very down-to-earth approach that makes shoppers feel familiar. I must have come into Builders Surplus 20 times while I was remodeling my home. There was no need for me to search the floor looking for someone to assist me, the employees were proactive in assisting me but not overly persistent in a way that gets on shoppers nerves. The balance is perfect. I am very particular about the customer service that I receive and Builders Surplus did not disappoint.

This place is awesome. We’ve been remodeling our house for 9 months and went there often to find the best deals. We bought our bathtub for half the price I found them online. A gorgeous iron contemporary front door that is absolutely stunning for a super price and always find fixtures and uselful items we need. Staff are fantastic and super helpful.

This place is NOT a Surplus. Material prices are exactly priced the same or higher as the Big Box Stores (Home Depot & Lowes) no additional discounts such as military 10% discounts. And you can not return. NO REFUNDS... only a store credit. And if you lose your paper receipt store credit then you are SOL. This place doesnt care because they think they are giving you a Surplus Price. I would NEVER shop here again nor would I recommend them to anyone. Save your time & money and spend it somewhere that appreciates your business. I bought a door and they gave me the wrong swing open, so I went to return it but they said it was my fault to verify before I purchased. So I got a store credit... then when I lost my paper receipt they said there was nothing they can do. Its like buying material at an over priced Yard Sale. This place is the worst.

This place is my go to place for all building materials. I have bought, lighting fixtures, plumbing fixtures, sinks, doors, doors, and more doors among other things. All of the employees are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. A special thank you and shout out to Mardi, Chad, Franky, John, Ray, Damian, Kevin, and all the others whose names escape me right now, but you know who you are. Best place in town to get quality materials at an incredible price with dynamite service. I have even had astounding success with some of their seconds merchandise. I have saved hundreds if not thousands of dollars by buying second rate doors that are easily made into first quality looking doors. Thank you Builders Surplus. Attentive and responsive...

Very friendly staff. We needed help finding an odd sized door. Oscar said he knew they had one but it might take a little while to find it. He suggested we wait in the kitchen planning area while he looked for it. It was kinda hot in the warehouse which is to be expected, it was 101 degrees outside, but the kitchen planning area is air conditioned and has chairs to sit on. Within 5 minutes Oscar was back and led us to the door we were looking for.

Great experience! All the staff were so helpful and knowledgeable... with their help ended up with a better cabinet than I had previously picked out!! Oscar was great!! I will definitely be back to purchase more items for our home remodel!

Definitely worth visiting if you are building or doing a reno. We were assisted by Kevin who was very helpful. He took his time with us answering all of our questions, even writing down different selections we chose as well as the prices. For much of the inventory they provide price lists as well.

The flooring was online, half of what the name brand stores had it for and it was better quality and had the pad attached to it as well.Eric, the manager, was very helpful in explaining how much I would need for my project and if they would have it in stock. Ive been in there several times and bought unfinished vanity cabinets. The cabinets are wooden and well made.The staff had been extremely helpful, Ive recieved some really good advice.

Came here today since we spontaneously decided we remodel our master bath. Found a vanity and sink that were on different parts of the floor. Mr. John was very kind and had the top placed on the vanity we wanted. He also gave us a heads up that there was metal in the vanity top we were interested in and that over the years it would oxidize and we would see some rust. I appreciated this greatly and feel like this would not have been disclosed at a competitor.The quality of the items is exceptional and you wont find items like this at other places for this price. Be sure to come here for your home improvement projects. You wont be disappointed!

What a delightful surprise! Damian was wonderful. The warehouse is huge and easy to get lost, but Damian immediately approached us took us to exactly the items that we needed. It was like magic and check out was a breeze.
