After seeing Seiwa Market featured on a YouTube video I wanted to check it out myself. While it is a smaller store than one like H Mart the size doesnt matter. They have a great selection of Japanese food as well as prepared meals. Definitely worth checking out and if they had a location closer to where we live we would be regular customers.
• Always clean• Lots of variety. Chips, sweets, drinks, fresh fruits, fresh bread, fresh foods made daily• You MUST try the egg salad sandwich - the bread is so fluffy and the egg salad itself is beautifully flavorful but not heavy. The sashimi is always top notch. The tuna/mayo onigiri is a real treat. The katsudon was alright -a little too sweet for me. The fried squid on a stick was flavorful, but very greasy (probably bc it had been sitting in the Hot&Ready area, which is reasonable)• The customer service is not overly friendly, but theyre certainly not rude. Its civil and Im okay with that.• BEWARE! The food is so good that it sells out quick! You have to be there in the morning if you want your pick of the litter. In a months time, weve been back 3 times -- and we live in San Antonio! Its worth the visit whenever you can. I always look forward to making a visit when Im in town.
Great little place. BUT... the early bird gets the worm here. As the saying goes. Ive been here in the morning when the shelves are stocked. And Ive been here mid afternoon, and seen the pastry shelf empty, most of the great selection of fish gone. So plan to come early so youre not disappointed.
I consider this as the premier destination for Japanese food products and carry out sushi in the Houston area.
I grew up and lived in Japan for 8 years.Ive been to various Asian groceries in Houston, including 99 Ranch and H Mart (which are fantastic). However, Seiwa is the most accurate representation of a Japanese grocery store. I was so excited to visit Seiwa and peruse all of the groceries and food. The freshly prepared food section is abundant, great quality, and reasonably priced. They also have baked good items that are amazing and reminded me so much of my childhood.10/10
The store looks clean and organized inside. They have ready made meals that are pretty tasty. Although the store is rather small compared to 99Ranch or H-mart they still have a good selection of products. They dont carry much fresh produce, its a small selection. Also, you are NOT hit with a strong odor from the meat and seafood department like some other places. I gave it a four star rating due to the small size of the store. Think of it like Aldi compared to an HEB or something (size wise).
This is my favorite place in the world! The quality of the produce is always fresh and they have such a variety of products to choose from! I love getting my groceries here they always have exactly what I need! I highly recommend Checking it out!
Great shopping but wish that it could be bigger. Lots of varieties and prices are reasonable. Wish they could also open up more stores
If youre looking for a store with excellent produce, the best meat and fish you will find anywhere, and something new and interesting, this is your place! Smaller than the Asian markets on Bellaire, but because of that their selection is 💯 and no space is wasted. Bonus that they have Ramen Bar Ichi delicacies for purchase when you dont feel like eating in but have that craving!!
Beautiful little store with an excellent variety of Japanese food. They have everything from fresh fish, produce, and baked goods to frozen and packaged items. I love getting groceries and picking up a prepared meal from the deli, too.
Love the place but they used to have a bigger collection of ramen noodles. Glad they keep goodies like dango and Swiss rolls. I like to try a bunch of exotic flavors in drinks whenever I visit.
The Seiwa team is super friendly! The deli squad is hella attentive and always down to help. Thank you for the delicious lunch 🙂
Went in this morning just to grab a couple of things with the family. Noticed the bakery section was empty.. I asked the female cashier when do they restock the bakery. She was polite and answered, unfortunately I didn’t hear her the first couple of times when she responded, the male cashier working behind her rudely interrupted us and repeated what she said in a very nasty and harsh tone. I truly was taken aback and had to stare at him a moment bc I honestly thought I heard him wrong. He then REPEATED himself! Same rude tone!He was incredibly ill mannered and was a complete jerk. There was nothing to warrant his behavior or insert himself in the conversation, I simply just could not hear her. That was it.I came in a week before and noticed his rude behavior to another customer as well. He just seems absolutely miserable and takes it out on the customers. When it was time to check out he couldn’t even look my husband in the face as we payed.I’ll just stick to Hmart. I’ll miss the sushi here but customer service is SO much better elsewhere.
An amazing place! Definitely recommend going early because all the good stuff goes quick!
Really nice place to go and get some groceries and definitely some prepared meals and food. Everything we got was delicious.
Awesome experience at Seiwa Market. I came here for some Japanese food to cook at home and got some freshly made sushi.
Their food is top quality and their ready to go dishes from the restaurant next door are amazing. We always aim to arrive early as they run out quickly. The store is very clean and orderly. Staff is all very polite and efficient.
How was Seiwa Market? Awesome. So many choices, so many great things.
Its so clean and there are so many Japanese ingredients, its definitely worth checking out
The Japanese grocery store has a good selection of snacks and sweets for your sweet tooth for sure
Nice Japanese market. Great selection of snacks and premade food. Not worth the drive over though.
Just wow... thoigh the pork katsu sando needs the end pieces cut off...
Amazing Asian grocery and more. They always has fresh food and they always have more delicious stuff to try. Never had a bad meal or ingredient here. Their bento boxes will put you in the best food coma.
Sushi was not skimpy and delicious. The price was reasonable. Worker was nice.
I love coming here at least once a month to stock up on treats and grocery items I cant find at my local grocery or Asian market. Plus the prepared foods are worth the drive alone! Everything here is a fantastic treat!
Loved it! Everyone there is so sweet and helpful.
The staff is super helpful and polite. The store has a huge selection on Japanese food and snacks.
Great selection of Japanese import goods. The best thing about this place is their bento boxes.
Everytime I walk in its always with a smile... love love love all their products...
There is such a wide selection of japanese goods, such as snacks, ramen, and bread. I especially love the candy that comes with little toys because it’s something that I would usually only find in japan but I can find it here.
Basically one of the coolest places I’ve ever been. Come for the awesome lunches, stay for the drink selection!
This place is incredible.Small but they packed it with great items. Super clean
Best place to go to if youre wanting any food and snacks from Japan. The hand rolls are definitely the best item made in house.
Very nice and clean. Purchased excellent sushi grade salmon 😁
I have only been to this market on three occasions - I visit there when I take my teenager to Salon Village for a cut. Twice they have had Japanese pancakes (okonomiyaki). They are delicious. In fact, my son is particular with what he eats but he is the reason we have gone back! He enjoys these so much that we have to stop in every time we are close by.In addition to that, the store always appears well stocked and respectful of customers safety. There is a wide variety of food, seasonings, and supplies. Maybe well see you there in a few weeks!
My favorite to-go sushi place! Fresh sashimi and many varieties of hot food, sushi, Japanese dessert and drinks. Food runout fast need to go early!
Interesting market. Mostly Japanese. They have a ton of the quirky Japanese smacks.
Two thumbs up for the great food with great value!
A lot of variety, prices are high but things are imported so makes sense, staff was nice, and place is clean
Came here on Saturday on the 3rd day of the soft opening. The store has great selection of Japanese products and ingredients and the best in Houston. I was going to buy some stuff but the line was over 30 ppl long and was moving extremely slow. So I gave up and left I will come back next month when it is less crazy. The food court is not opened yet so dont waste your time.
Always have what Im looking for! Very high quality!
Love it, just wish they would ration enough sushi to serve to people in the afternoon just barely get out of work. I can never find any when I get there around 5pm. Of course, theyre delicious and thats why they sell out.... Just wish they would save a little for working people.
Best sashimi weve ever had! Its even better than some restaurants weve been to and the prices were less than restaurants. We just ate the sushi in their food court and got other appetizers (fried oysters, fried octopus). The grilled mackerel and salmon bento boxes are good too. They have long checkout lines on weekends
Great selection, including many items I hadn’t seen before (A pleasant surprise for someone who has gone to every H-Mart, 99 Ranch Market, Jusgo, Daiso, etc. in the Houston and Austin areas). Was kind of sad I accidentally went at a time the house-made food selection was low, because what was available looked GREAT, and were at a great price. Prices on non-perishable packaged food and drinks was a little pricey compared to other Asian markets, though. Canned coffee, tea, bottled drinks are usually around $1 at the aforementioned stores, here it was closer to $2-$4. Same with snack foods and sweets. The rarer items that are probably direct imports I get but like, the packages of golden curry were more expensive, and that’s available on Amazon! I get it though, if you’re importing and still keeping reasonable prices, you might raise all the prices just a bit, instead of raising the import price a lot. Will definitely come back to check out new items and get some more of the prepped food!
This place is awesome! Really takes me back to living in Japan. While they don’t have absolutely everything they are very close to a market in Japan.
Best Japanese grocery store in the greater Houston area. Very clean and well organized with a great selection. This is the only place I trust for fish to consume raw at home.
Went there first day of theif soft opening, i wasnt expecting much surprise as Ive read the reviews of their locations in cali. Im not expecting anything like Mitsuwa Marketplace so i was less disappointing. The place is clean with larger selection than Daido but nothing special and most of the stuffs i could get it at other asian supermarket and a bit pricey! Two things that they are outshine other markets are their meat products and sashimi selections!! Their meat for sukiyaki are nicely cut and fresh (not frozen like most stores) which i love!! Sashimi selections also outstanding which definitely impressed me! The stuffs are friendly and helpful! One thing customers may find it unusual is they have to do your own sacking after checked out. Overall its good to have a bigger Japanese supermarket! Hope they will be open late like most supermarkets!
Great to go Japanese food and grocery.
A lot of the things here are pretty overpriced compared to other asian stores in the city like hmart, 99 ranch, local asian ones, etc. but if you don’t have any of those near you, don’t want to drive 15+ minutes, and/or live near this store, then i would recommend going here.the food court food is so good though! love the different variety of japanese and korean food here.
Only place in town you can get these kind of items. Love the curry bread and Takana rice balls! Staff is friendly and everything is reasonably priced, I always stop by when Im in the area.
If you love Japanese Food this is the place to go. Has many items to make your favorite Japanese dish. Also has ready to go dishes.I bought two ready to go dishes. A noodle dish with vegetables that was very yummy and my personal favorite eel in brown sauce with white rice . Both were very fresh tasting and a good value for the your pocket . I say check this place out when you have some free time and you wish to make you tummy happy.
I love Japanese food and snacks. You can find so many Japanese fare at this store and everything is so clean and tidy.
Looks like a real Japanese grocery store and stocks authentic Japanese groceries! They have sushi, sashimi, bento boxes, and hot food. I havent personally tried hot food from here, but it looks great! My favorite is mochi with red bean in it. You can find those BBQ pork buns in frozen section that is pretty good. Asahi beer is my husbands favorite beer. You should drop by and try something!
Best sushi you can get.
Nice Japanese Market with great ready to eat items and sushi
F youre a weeb or maybe just curious about Japanese cuisine then look no further you can get everything you have heard about hailing from Japan. Theres umeboshi (pickled plum) coffee pudding, onigiri, tonkatsu, matcha everything and more. You can even order ramen here. Its fun exploring and finding something else to try.Try to go on the weekdays if you want to eat and sit inside. Saturday lines are no joke and theres limited seating
Highly recommend going here. The products they carry are excellent in quality. Friendly Staff, and Welcoming Atmosphere.
I come here everyday and their bento is delicious.
The place to go for Japanese groceries and sashimi. Have great selections of ready food section including hand rolls, sushi and variety of sashimi. Usually crowded on Sat and Sun because they put out the best sashimi on the weekend.
Love the fresh sushi they have there.
Not very many places that you can buy Japanese Cuisine and jachin eat Japanese alcohol this is one of my very favorite places for me and my daughter to shop
Place was great but I got there at 1 on a Saturday and the bread was gone. So get there early please
Where do I begin? I have been looking for a place like Seiwa Market I know know where I can go to get ingredients for homemade ramen!
Great place. Clean store in normal times. Even better in pandemic.
Omg!!! I love this place!! Has all your needs to make an authentic Japanese ramen or delicacy that you desire! The staff is helpful and friendly! You cant go wrong trying this market! I was hoping to find some teapots, hot pots, ramen bowls, but no luck... other than that, I will be back!
We like getting some of sushi and sashimi from this store. There are some very popular items that will go very quick. Sometimes you need to get to the store before noon 🙂 We love tokayaki, unagi and some other snacks. Seaweed salad is one of my favorites there.
I come here regularly for the prepared meals, which are excellent. They have fresh sushi, rice bowls and bento boxes, and then a revolving menu in the center area of the cafe which has delicious cream puffs, Japanese pancakes, and random items from Ramen Bar Ichi next door. They also have whole fish filets, a wide assortment of wagyu beef, fresh fruit and vegetables, Japanese instant noodles, teas, candies, sauces, etc. The cashiers are very efficient. One of my favorite markets to shop.
Love this place. Large variety of to go bento boxes.
Nice place that has many Japanese items that cannot be find anywhere else in the city. Always welcoming and helpful staff as well. This is a must place to shop to buy groceries for Japanese cuisine.
Clean, well organized, more upscale feeling than other markets I have been to. Limited selection of sushi grade fish when I was there, but I think it had just been picked over.
