I do not understand where all the great reviews come from.Pros: bacon was great, family loved their pancakesCons: waitress only came around 3x, when we ordered, when food was delivered, when we got our check. One refill on coffee. The tea was awful. I asked for strawberries and I got some cherry sauce that tasted like cough syrup. French Toast had no flavor. Tables and floors are sticky. The light above our table was broken glass, SUPER unsafe.I regret going here.

Really good food. One of my favorite spots. The lobby seems like it needs more maintnance now. Theres napkins keeping table legs balanced. Drywall that needs repair, and we sat at a table that had a broken light fixture that did not look safe at all.

It is your basic Midwestern breakfast at a reasonable price. Was not crowded on a Sunday morning when other places nearby had lines. Good but neither great nor bad.

Great food! Good prices. Most of wait staff is UNMASKED prompting my wife and I to don our KN95s whenever our waitress came over. They DO have outdoor seating but it’s right next to 86th street, so it’s lousy with cars and gas fumes. I made a comment to the cashier that I wish more of the wait staff were masked. She said “Everyone is vaccinated so don’t worry about it.” EVERYONE is vaccinated? I doubt it.

Tina, the manager, I spoke to on this past Sat was very helpful and accommodating.We are from Ill. we were in Indianapolis for my brother-in-law to receive a kidney transplant. Staying in a hotel, eating carry out every meal. Tina let me take a menu back to the room and we could call for pickup meals. The day we left for home I returned the menu, ordered one last carryout, raisin toast&coffee( by the way much better than hotel room coffee) which we enjoyed on the road. Thank you Miss Tina, and all your staff. THANK YOU!

We have been going to this place since it opened, and excited to return now that we feel more comfortable dining out. Had one of the skillets today, which was quite tasty. Portions are generous and sharable if not too hungry, and lots of variety. Have never been disappointed with the food here. Service can be hit or miss, but usually quick and efficient, and never a total disappointment. If your looking for a local/independent with variety, give this place a try.

My sister loves this place, but as for me very low on places to eat. I ordered steak and egg platter the steak was like shoe leather. I ate some of my eggs and hash browns before I told waitress my concerns. Ended up with eating half an egg, half the hash browns and 2 bites of steak. 10.00 for that meal. 1 hour of wasted time and was still hungry 😐 😫

Ive been going there over a month, 2 to 3 times a week, getting to-go orders. My order was wrong 95% of the time. Help! Looking for a good breakfast restaurant with better service!

My wife and I went there to eat breakfast since we were there getting haircuts across the street. The waitress who took care of us was very nice and very accommodating although she was brand new and we had to keep asking for more coffee. Another waitress came over before we were through eating and said would you like me to take your plates and my wife had a mouthful of food and still food on her plate and she grabbed the plates and took them. When we related that to the manager she said well Im sorry about that and took our money and that was the end of it and did not invite us back. I would not recommend anyone going to this place who wants to eat a full meal,snd before theyre finished, lose whats left of your meal on your plate and get this kind of treatment. To me it was $25 wasted because I could have had any meal like that anywhere else and had wonderful treatment at another restaurant

I just want to thank the rude employees checking in customers for ruining my Mothers Day. They didnt take our name then after waiting awhile asked where we were on the list. Didnt even have our name on the list. Discussed with them then just added our name. Since they lied to us majority of group left. This included 2 kids home from college. So didnt get to spend any time with them. Most upset.Disappointed

It has been a very long time since Ive walked out of a restaurant but this morning it happened. Hotcakes Emporium at 86th and Ditch. If someone hasnt gotten sick there it is a miracle. After being seated at a dirty table the waitress gave us as a so look when I asked for the table to be wiped. There was a large piece of sausage which she wiped to the floor and threw the rag back in the dirty buss bin, retrieving it when I asked for the entire table to be wiped. The back of the menu Id been handed had someone elses breakfast on it. Waitresses bussing tables, putting dirty dishes in the buss bin and then grabbing the coffee pot and creamers to take to a table. No handwashing or sanitizing evident from anyone. The real kicker was watching waitresses eat their own food from from a counter in front of one of the prep tables. What REALLY did it for me was watching one eat a piece of bacon with her fingers, lick her fingers and then stick her hand in the prep table, grabbed something and took it to a table. I was sick to my stomach. Canceled the order and walked out. OMFG, whats wrong with people?Reminiscent of a night at Applebees across the street when the waitress brought the credit card receipt, took the pen out of her mouth to hand to us and she couldnt figure out what was wrong with that scenario.It truly makes me not want to eat out. Disgusting.

The wait was very short for such a busy place. The food was good and the waitress Victoria was on point. A must eat! Try the strawberry cheesecake pancakes. They were so good I forgot to take a picture 🤣.

A great, chilly December day to have a meal at Hotcakes Emporium! Opted for eggs over medium, bacon, and wheat toast.I, also, tried the Potato and Sausage Soup of the Day. An amazing combination and stick to your ribs consistency.Never a bad meal - nor service - at this place.

Just let there Sunday April 18th 2021. I dont live far from restaurant so we wanted to try it out since was packed. We sat there for 10 minutes before being services, and then the waitress was new and did not know her job.. My husband had a piece of hair on his cup. The restaurant appeared to be clutter and not as clean as it should. We definitely should have left, but I was hungry. Once food arrived it was just average, nothing good or bad.. After finishing I looked at my recipe and they had over charge me.. This was a very bad experience, and I dont recommend going to restaurants at all. If I didi6have to give them at least one star I wouldnt.

The quality has dropped. My scrambled eggs had particles in them and were discolored. They need to clean a spot on the grill specifically for scrambled eggs. I think the person didnt put gloves on her hands before making toast.

Great spot for breakfast served all day! I had a patty melt though and it was delicious. Served with pub style fries which I love. They have open face sandwiches (Manhattans) and country fried steak which I will be back to try as well.

I been coming here for years the food has always been a hit. The wait staff is a little bit over stretched . The Last time i can i had a horrible experience my bill was only 13 and some change and or waitress was really busy but she did her best to wait on us. So I decided i was going to leave her a tip. The lady at the counter “says” she couldn’t get my card to run but she charged it twice 2 different prices. I came back to the restaurant to dispute the charges snd the cashier said i had to bring in physical documentation from bank. To be refunded a charge that i showed her that she did she was very unhelpful. So i all together i was double charged for breakfast. If you come here I recommend you pay the tip with cash. Because the cashier is not helpful at all.

My favorite breakfast place in Indy because it’s unapologetically traditional (doesn’t try too hard like some of the fancier places) yet refreshingly excellent in quality. Indy’s best kept breakfast secret - with locations on every side of town!

Very poor service and cleanliness. Had hair in my coffee cup plus the coffee was burnt. There was a used mask on a chair in front of my table. They also got my order wrong. And the cashier (manager maybe?) was a bit snappy. Not sure I’ll give this place another try.

Service very SLOW. Sat for 10 minutes before being greeted by our waitress. Food was quick and great prices. Bacon was petrified, eggs were ice cold but cooked perfect, hash browns were cooked but mushy. Didnt need anything but sat for another 10 minutes after we ate and stacked the plates on edge of table for her. Finally went up front to pay but didnt have ticket. Host called the waitress over to retrieve our ticket. What was she doing? Reading the paper....oh yeah the ice breaker was when we found a snake skin underneath our table. GROSS!! NOT!!

Hotcakes Emporium is and has been the go to Breakfast & Lunch location in the 86th & Ditch Road Area of Indianapolis for years. Specials each day for both breakfast and lunch. Always an innovative menu with new twists. The owner is present on site and is heavily vested in his business. Today I had the Breakfast Burrito with Avocado and my much better half Elie had an Avocado Omelet, hotcakes with pecans and hash browns. (We actually took the hotcakes home very large breakfast). Very innovative and tasty menu items. Very large portions and great coffee. I had a question about my bill and the owner addressed and adjusted it while kindly teaching and coaching his server on using the adding machine etc. Very human and helpful staff, good table service and when she did not have the answer she asked and returned with an answer. Top restaurant in the area, top owner management, excellent menu as well as honest and forthright! Cant be beat especially nowadays. A MUST GO TO AREA RESTAURANT! Non
