One of my favorite places that I take everyone. Its always a crowd pleaser. You create your own ice cream from scratch and watch it made in front of you. You have many options to choose from. You can use whole milk, or other non dairy options. You choose a flavor, such a mint, mocha, or my personal favorite: Thai/chai tea. (It reminds me of boba tea). Then you add two toppings. What I love to do is get Thai Tea with chocolate chips. It might sound odd, but I swear its good. The two you see at the bottom are: mocha coffee ice cream with peanut butter candy and syrup (I believe), and Thai Tea with chocolate chips. Both were great. Ive had other flavors such as mint that was amazing. The Taiyaki fish was taro. While it didnt actually taste like taro, it was still very good. Honestly it just tasted like cream cheese with purple food coloring. (Good thing I love cream cheese). But it was seriously still good. Ill be getting another one of a different flavor next time.If you havent stopped in yet, do yourself a favor and do it!The only reason it isnt 5 stars is I believe the place can be cleaner. Most of the tables were dirty or sticky. It just feels like it needs a week off to just scrub the place down, change the scenery and toss stuff out. Those cards on the wall are cool, but theyre getting a little old. I used to go here a lot a few years ago, and it wasnt this dirty looking. But maybe its just me.(Also as a side note Ive never had my ice cream rolled for as many times Ive been here, but some have. I wonder why that is...?)
Green tea with almond milk ice cream tasted really watered down .. last time I came here a couple years ago it was actually good. Idk what happened.
I am not one to ever leave reviews. Good or bad. but this time If I could give no stars I would. I went with my in-laws Friday late afternoon . It was one of the few times my mother in law has gone out since there start of Covid due to her cancer. The heavier set young white girl Took our order with such an attitude then proceeded to yell at one of her coworkers saying “we’re busy making a ton of ice cream right now! don’t you see I’m busy?” when it was only our family (5 people total) in the store. we felt very unwelcome and unwanted by her. She rushed each and everyone of us with our toppings, rolled her eyes several times and constantly made slick remarks to her coworker as if we were not people, or even human beings, standing in front of her. I was completely humiliated for bringing my mother-in-law to the store. I work in the food industry so I understand having a bad day I understand sometimes having attitude after dealing with a string of rude people but what she had was not an attitude due to a long day. she has an awful personality. She is just straight up mean to people because she is a mean spirited person. I can only imagine how she treats other people during rushes… After sharing my experience with some of my friends a few of them said that they have gone to the ice cream shop before and received the same type of customer service from that girl. She does not need to be working the counter or making peoples ice cream with that type of service. she belongs doing prep in the back away from customers.
Great value for the food and coffee! Absolutely in love with the place and so glad it’s close to where I live! Definitely coming back for more taiyaki!
Definitely a place to go. They make their own types of ice cream if you want skim, soy or almond milk. They also have taiyaki. One of my favorite. I am attaching red bean and a chocolate cream filling. Red bean is my favorite. Make sure you tip the people here! I have been here already twice in two weeks!
I’ve been to this establishment once before, and it was super busy. This time it was relatively slow. Maybe because it is the dead of winter. Originally, I came here to get the rolled ice cream, but they don’t do that here. The ice cream was nice and light. You have an option to pick 2 non fruit choices or 1 fruit choice as a topping. The ice cream was then mixed on the cold stone with your selection of cream base. The ice cream was also served in a waffle cone at no additional cost. Also, available were Taiyaki which are fish shaped pastry with filling in them. I didn’t get a chance to try one this time, but I had one in the past here and it was pretty tasty from what I remembered.
Great chill experience. Very cool selection with a small old school ice cream shoppe feel. Please note the e!
I’ve enjoyed this place before, their novelty method of making the ice cream makes the high price point worth it. However my recent visit was VERY disappointing. It was extremely busy, so to make up for it the staff wasn’t rolling the ice cream at all, just serving it in scoops. This would be fine if the prices weren’t so high. You pay for the novelty, the ice cream itself isn’t worth the price. Definitely fees like I got cheaped out, especially after waiting for 30 minutes.
They are open despite the construction and still pleasant and catering to make sure you get exactly what you want. I took my daughter there for a little mommy daughter date.Fyi: take cash for tip though.
The Ice-cream here is Top Notch. They make the Ice Cream right in front of you with whatever you want, milk substitutes and all. The Taiyaki is also amazing, highly recommend the Apple Cinnamon Taiyaki and getting Ice-cream.
I love that there are multiple milk options! You choose your flavor, choose your milk, and choose two mix-ins or toppings and they make your ice cream right in front of you. A waffle cone is built into the price, so dont hesitate to get that! One thing to note: 3 of the 4 of us felt that our ice cream wasnt very sweet, which is totally fine by me, but just know that going in. Make good use of your toppings to make it sweeter, if thats what youre after.Only 4 stars because the seating area was pretty gross.
Wanted to come here for the ice cream rolls, all we got was ice cream scoops.. did not expect that so we just decided to eat it like that. Got taro and green tea flavours and they were too sugary for my taste. Next time I want actual scoops Ill just go to my local ice cream shop instead of driving 30 minutes to be disappointed.
We are from Houston. We ordered the raspberry with chocolate chips and pecans. .I had the thai tea with mochi. It was good but the lady didnt mention the options for milk. I would have chosen coconut.
We was hoping to get rolled ice cream but they said they changed their policy. My husband ordered: whole milk, banana, & raspberry (it was delicious). I ordered: 2% milk, chocolate, & banana (it was ok but his was way better!) We also ordered the fish pancakes. The red bean was not to our liking and we also got the Nutella which was better filling.
K-pop, ice cream and taiyaki... Nuff said!
Very nice mom and pop run shop. The Icecream is tasty with a number of combos and toppings to choose from. Please come and support this spot!
I brought my daughters to this place for dessert, since they wouldnt stop clamoring on about needing dessert. We werent too far away, and this location came up when I searched for ice cream near me on Google Maps. Its a place weve never tried, so we gave it a shot. I had the peanut butter ice cream with pecans and chocolate chips, served in a waffle bowl. The ice cream wasnt real heavy, since it was made with whole milk VS cream. Still had decent flavor, though. The staff was friendly and talkative, one of them even talked to my daughter for a few moments while preparing her ice cream. Well come to me back one day.
Decent ice cream. They make it right in front of you and I really appreciate the customization of flavor, milk type, and toppings. They also have a lot of unique flavors to choose from. Its maybe a bit more expensive than some ice cream, but its a quite fun experience, and you get pretty decent portion sizes - the small (see pictured) comes with 3 scoops of icecream.
I’m sorry. I didn’t like the experience. A very long wait and the flavors were very bad. The chocolate was everything but chocolate and the vanilla as well.
I loved the fact they made the ice cream infront of you with fresh fruit and you can choose your base, almond milk, coconut milk, whole milk, etc. Its not too sweet!!!! Tried the taiyaki and Ive had better, it was more like cake and the red beans were not mashed good and it left a weird after taste.
Literally roaches crawling on the wall and the signs 🤢 dead roaches in the bathroom absolutely disgustingTo add to that the staff accused us of lying when they didn’t give us half the order and had to spend 20 minutes going through their receipts when it was obvious the high value bank statement we showed proved we ordered more than 1 item. Ice cream really causes 20 minutes of trouble to check receipts? How cheap can you be I guess cheap enough to not even afford basic cleaning or pesticide 🤢 I won’t be returning. I threw out my food after I saw about 10 roaches and the dead one in the bathroom.
Last time I was in Jacksonville, they didnt have this on place on the map of places to eat at. I couldnt wait to get this, since the opportunity presented itself. I made the order pretty difficult for the staff member who took my order. I ordered a whole dozen of taiyaki, but each with a different flavor on the menu. Did pretty good in making them in 15 min. Would love to have this where I live.
A bit over priced and the quality of the ice cream is not there. Place needs some maintenance too.
The taiyaki was good but I felt like the older lady at the register didn’t want to serve me (I’m black), so she had someone else ring me up. I also said thank you to her but got no response unlike my Asian boyfriend and the customer that went before me who was white. Tragic considering I did like this place a lot...
I absolutely love 5f(x). I have been coming since 2012 and really love the shop. I will say that it seems that the staff and quality have gone down over the years (the reason for 4 stars), but I really do love the food there. The taiyaki (the fish shaped waffles) are scrumptious. Essentially custard filled waffles. I love them, and can never pick just one. Taro and Bavarian cream are my favorites. The ice cream as well is great. They have many different options for add-ins and milks for those who are dairy intolerant. The flavor range is good, and the toppings have a good range.Overall, go here. Eat many delicious items. The lattes here vary extremely in my opinion. In 2012 they seems to be flavoring and milk (so good, albeit a little sweet), then they did start putting espresso, now I think they are made with a machine with gives a flavor I’m not sold on, personally.
Friendly service! Alot of toppings to choose from.
What an awesome find! This place is one of our favorite dessert go-tos. The ice cream is such a fun experience to order. They have so many different options... different milks (including non dairy), flavors, and a ton of toppings to choose from. We also love the taiyaki! Its SO good! My favorite is the red bean paste for my filling and my husband loves the cream cheese and jam... a nice soft inside and a crispy outside. DEFINITELY recommend!
Great flavors, and a unique experience. A treat every time.
It hurts to leave a 2-star review because the staff were extremely nice and the Taikayi smelled and tasted delicious. Unfortunately, my friend and I’s ice cream tasted like snow and had little flavor. I came here a year or so ago and loved it, so they may have changed the recipe since then. I really hope they go back to making creamier, more flavorful ice cream.
Messed up my order and made no attempts to fix it, only justify their own actions. Thats what I get for going to an ice cream place off baymeadows I guess
Always enjoy coming here.
The ice cream was phenomenal, but it has a different texture than normal store-bought ice cream (in a good way). The taiyaki was also amazing, it was warm, fluffy, and delicious. There were many different flavors for both the ice cream and the taiyaki. The place is a bit small, so it could get crowded pretty easily. The wait time for everything was wasnt long considering the fact that they make the ice cream in front of you. The music was kpop, and it wasnt obnoxious or too loud, but just right. My group wont stop talking about how much we enjoyed our trip to Five F(x) Ice Cream.
Their ice cream and taiyaki are great. They really need more employees working at night to keep the line moving... Especially Friday night. I also ordered their hot Thai tea which was quite strange since it had loose leaves in it... First time I had it that way and kept having leaves stuck in my teeth... I prefer it steeped. One star off for being short staffed and one star off for strange Thai tea.. other than that its good.
I absolutely love 5Fx..Not only is it exciting to watch the ice cream being made but its delicious.. friendly staff and owners..
Coolest ice cream spot in Jax
Wow, this place has got amazing flavors and toppings. Watch them as they make the ice cream. Pretty cool!
This is one of those bucket list places. The ice cream is made on the spot, right in front of you. They start with milk, flavoring and then make the ice cream in large cold pans, which are about minus 32 degrees Fahrenheit. They literally cook it with cold, folding it, turning it over repeatedly, and eventually you get a very tasty ice cream, which they scoop up in balls and put in cups. Be sure to get the waffle-lined cup. They have a lot of other things too, which I have not tried. But the menu is fairly extensive. Highly recommended. I take it that this is very popular in Asia.
Overall it wasn’t bad but wasn’t good, the Ice cream was a little watery, ice cream takes a bit to get because it’s handmade but I would recommend to go somewhere else.
We love there ice cream and food! Handmade right in front of you. Lately they have had inconsistent hours only open around 2-3 times a week on different days. Good food if you can catch them when open. Just wish there hours were true to there sign posted
Ice-cream always tastes very fresh, highly recommend trying it.
Called yo ask about dairy free ice cream, 5 times, no answer, no answer = no business
Had to wait for over 40 minutes for my girlfriend and I’s ice cream. It was good tasting but not worth the wait. Not to mention there were only 3 people ahead of us at the time. There wasn’t a sense of urgency by the staff and it seems overall they were understaffed. The craziest thing was while we were waiting a line of 10 people built up behind us. Seems like a management problem since there were only two people on staff and only one person actually serving the ice cream which took about 5-10 minutes each. Overall not worth 40 minutes of our time for ice cream, if you get lucky and there’s nobody in front of you in line I would say go for it. But if you see more than one person already in the shop prepare to wait a good long while.
I like the type of I cream they serve. The employees that work there are very nice. The reason for the one star is the owner. I have been coming to five fix for a year now. I have constantly seen problems with them running out of flavors. Extended period of time before they get them back in or even at all. in particular Lavender. Containers and lids are out of stock aiot. Today was the last straw when I got home took my ice cream out of bag. The lid was a soft drink lid covering my ice cream. I had to place saran wrap of container to put in freezer. This is unacceptable. The owner of this establishment has a good product but is running it poorly. It seems she more into the profit she can rack in verses making sure her customers get the product she offers. In the right containers with the proper Lids.
Very enjoyable treats!
They make the ice cream in front of you! & it taste amazing!!
Freshest homemade ice milk ever! (While delicious, they should not call it ice cream because it is not made with cream). You pick your ice milk base; almond milk, skim milk, 2%, whole milk and yogurt. The flavors are incredible, but I always get coconut flavored whole milk with coconut flakes and choc chips. They freeze it instantly on a dry ice metal slab and it sizzles like its boiling. Delicious and HIGHLY recommended.
We were there later on a Saturday (Around 9:00pm) and the line went to the door. It was a solid 20 minute wait but seating was available for anyone who wanted to get off their feet. We ordered a Nutella Taiyaki which was very good. I had the blueberry ice cream with coconut and Nestle Crunch. It was cool watching each order being made by hand but this was also the reason for the long line. The ice cream was OK. There wasnt much of a blueberry flavor and it was more icy than creamy. Overall everything was good! Im definitely interested enough to try more flavors and different fillings for the taiyaki.
Great ice cream. Fresh flavors and ingredients. A definite recommend for everyone. Its not just ice cream its fun.
Awesome experience.
Go here! My girlfriend always gets a fish waffle, usually taro, they are delicious. Best part, they will make your ice cream with coconut milk or almond milk for us lactose intolerant people! I love having the option. Ice cream is always delicious and its fun to watch them make it on a cold plate and dice up your chosen toppings. We stop in whenever we are on that side of town. Usually have some crazy pop videos on too, cool place worth a visit.
This place makes your Ice Cream on the spot! I got the chocolate and it was smooth, creamy, and not too rich. The staff is super friendly and were very quick. Will 100% come back for more. My wife got the peanut butter and a friend got the coconut and they both loved their choices.
This ice cream place is unique because they actually create the ice cream right in front of you on a plate that is very very cold. The other thing that I really like about it is not you are able to choose what kind of base you want for your ice cream. I recently went vegan and they are able to start with an almond milk base. They also have other vegan ingredients that you can put in your ice cream and I would highly recommend it.
This place has THE best ice cream Ive had. The variety in flavors is awesome and the extra choices are perfect. Sometimes my favorite flavors are out of stock but thats cause theyre popular. The taiyaki is super good, from the traditional red bean one. The awesome sweet flavors and then unexpected savory flavors. All in all, my favorite ice cream place to date.
Always a treat when in this part of town
Excellent Ice Cream, Taiyaki, and even Coffee!
Jacksonvilles best
The desert is amazing! The service is great! They are so much fun and great workers! They are organized and fast. There isnt enough seating at peak hours but you can easily take stuff to go and they will provide ice packs for your ice cream to stay cold. The food is made in front of you and you can watch them turn milk into beautiful delicious ice cream. The amount of flavors to choose from is great for ice cream and taiyaki. The coffee is also very good there. I highly recommend for a fun date or to take the kids to!
I think this is an independently owned franchised, so the kitchen area is a bit disorganized. Nevertheless, I am glad they have Asian flavored ice cream such as taro, Thai tea, lycee, etc. Though most of these flavors are powdered. You can request what type of milk to use in case you have dietary restriction on fairy. $4.99 for a small (made to order 3 small scoops of ice cream) with 1 fresh fruit topping or 2 no fruit toppings.
Her customer service was really bad. We were the only customer there and she was just so lazy it was like someone was forcing her to work, and the ice cream’s milk wasn’t even frozen yet when she handed to me. She was disrespectful to me while she handed me the ice cream; with a rude face and didn’t say anything to me afterwards. And its not like I was buying a cheap ice cream; I paid $6 for one ice cream and I get all this attitude. I don’t recommend this place at all.
The staff here is always super nice, and I love the k-pop feel. It can get randomly busy so just be prepared. Flavors are great but definitely expect a wait if you order anything crazy.
It was not good it tastes like ice coconut milk and flavoring would not recomend!!!!!
The ice cream was amazing and I loved seeing them make it in front of me. They allow you to customize your favors and its quite a cute location. He took me here and now I come back here just to remember him sometime, its quite a cute place for a date.
This place was my first experience with having rolled ice cream, and its really good! The staff is always friendly to chat with and I love how considerate and precise they are when making my ice cream. They have TVs that play music videos, and I like how considerate they are with the volume, where you can still hear the person youre with talking to you.
They have the best ice cream in town! Every-time my sister comes in to visit me we have to go get their Nutella ice cream.
Google hours are not accurate, also they do not offer dine in.Got to the location and there was a sign taped to the door which specified the hours and that they are take out only.Tried calling the restaurant to place an order for take out and no one answered. Looked like they were closed even though we were there during their open hours.Disappointed.
The ice cream is made to order. Process that for a second... THEY MAKE IT THE WAY YOU WANT IT IN FRONT OF YOU!!! It’s not scooped from a pan, not made earlier and frozen them served. It blew my mind to watch my strawberry ice cream start as a scoop of strawberries and some whole milk. And it was good! And the people making it were very nice. I’ll have to bring a date here!
Always one of my favorite ice cream shops in the city. The employees are very nice and they have so many options. I love that they offer dairy-free milks and free toppings. They are a little bit pricey, but to me its a bang for your buck.
Unfortunately have to give one star, hours show open until 11 pm. Drove across all of Jacksonville and got there at 10:15 pm just for a locked door. Looks really good though!
It cream was good. Made right in front of you. You can pick what candies or fruits you want added in as well as the flavor ice cream you want. Its like the roll up ice cream made in a frozen tray thats cooled to around -60 degrees so it freezes fast.
This is not just a regular ice cream place, this is an anti-grill ice cream place! For those who dont know, an anti-grill operates exactly like a regular grill, except that it freezes things instead! Just walk in, choose a flavor, and theyll roll the cream into frozen goodness right in front of you! There are many flavors to choose from and even Takoyaki!! Also, super awesome Korean music is often playing!! This is for the fellow weebs and the ice cream lovers!
Check this place out! The taiyaki is wonderful with tasty fillings (peanut butter was amazing). The ice cream is a little expensive but they make it to-order, right in front of you. The waffle cup and 2 toppings are included with the price (waffle cup is thin, sweet, and perfectly crunchy/flakey) It’s an experience, and a tasty one at that! Worth the price point, for sure.
My whole experience was wonderful. Ive never had made to order ice cream before. The banana ice cream has a delicious rich flavor. Im always very critical because banana is a hard flavor to get right, in my opinion. The staff were very friendly and patient as I stared at the menu far longer than needed. Ice cream mixer and I chatted as he skillfully blended my order in front of me. Although I cant say the decor is impressive, everything appeared clean and maintained.
I love that they make the ice cream fresh in front of you. Very creamy and tasty. Please franchise down south to Tampa.
J-pop fun and delicious treats make this place awesome. I love the things that they do sometimes like costume nights and other events and my kids love the ice creams while my partner and I enjoy the waffle fish!
Best place in Jax for ice cream. Only people who wouldn’t like it are closed minded people. Try new things people!!!
