I had an intermittent transmission problem that required Steve, the owner of SDR, to drive the truck long enough for it to reoccur. He personally took the time to diagnose the problem, though it took him commuting 30+ miles with all the computers and gizmos connected. Once it was determined that the transmission was on its way out, they had it repaired in no time, though the parts were not readily available. It’s my work truck, and Steve a d team did what it took to get me back in operation.I had been to other shops who were both unable to diagnose the issue, and seemed to be in a big hurry to get me out of their hair so they could move on to the quick fixes.I believe it takes an established, owner-operated shop like SDR to provide the level of service I needed. They’re my go-to moving forward.

I can not give enough PRAISE to Steve and the the CREW at SDR Transmission & Repair. Kenosha is a town with great loyalty to family/Home Town businesses!! Chiappettas-Mike Bjorn-Crystals-Tenutas to name a few. For us SDR is at the TOP of the auto repair category in metropolitan Kenosha. for car maintenance. I worked for a dealership in the area and choose to have our cars serviced at SDR even though I had a discount on service at the dealership. Throughout the years of loyalty to SDR I constantly see Steve reenacting with other customers the professionalism and honesty (which is rare in todays World) which first started us to be LOYAL customers of SDR Steve would not work on my wifes car until he personally observed the issue after three 20 minute test drives. Where else does anyone do such a thing these days??? About a week ago SDR replaced our axles and in my discussion with Steve when I picked the car up ........he told me his business philosophy: when customers walk in his business they are usually frustrated and even angry; but his view is always to bring the customer a happy outcome and turn that frustration in the opposite direction Do I NEED to say more?? When I met Steve he told me he lives by the Golden rule to treat others as he would want to be treated. Apparently, Steve likes to be treated VERY well with honesty, dependability and the with the utmost respect and care. I wish 10 stars was a possibility and that would still be too low. The service and care at SDR from Steve and his staff is unlike any you find in the current world we live in. I was facing what seemed an impossible situation. My daughters car was making a horrible metal scraping noise and locking up, turns out needed a new Transfer case. I had taken the car somewhere else and the option was not a good one. I called several places who just dont do what I needed. With the lack of inventory in the used parts world I was looking at a huge expense with parts that were so old it wouldnt be worth the time and money. I didnt know who to trust and which option to choose. I was actually referred to SDR by another shop who couldnt help me. Steve listened to me explain the issues and fears and then went so far above and beyond to help me out, kept in constant contact with me about the options, he spent his own time late at night researching to make sure he was giving me all the possibilities. When it came to making a decision I felt calm and confident that I was making the best choice and that Steve was going to make sure it was done right. It was still going to be a big expense for me but at least I knew I was making the right choice. Steve took the time to educate me about the problem and explain exactly what they were going to do and why. He made sure that I was not going to be without a car, he dropped me off at the car rental place and had the whole job done by the next day. He fixed the tire that caused the problem to make sure it wouldnt happen again and even threw that in at no cost which is not expected! He made me feel like one of his own. This is my shop for life and I will always refer everyone to SDR knowing with confidence that the people I send to him will be taken care of the same way I was because thats just who SDR is. Thank you, Steve and staff for making a very difficult time in my life as easy as possible.

I went to SDR when my power steering went out. Not only did I need a new pump, but they also informed me that my rear brakes were shot and the front brakes were on their way. They were incredibly professional and up front about the costs, and how long I could safely put off each repairI was hesitant to drop so much money on a car I dont plan on keeping for much longer, but after SDR worked their magic, my car has driven better than it has since I first bought it. Im incredibly impressed and thrilled that my car drives this well, and will 100% be returning to SDR for any further service I need :)

Provide great service at a good price. They found a problem with my vehicle my dealer didnt even notice and fixed the problem for good! Friendly and get the job done on time too!

Said catalytic converter was bad. paid 1500 to fix and replace. check engine light came back the next day. took it to the dealer who stated it was the acceleration sensor. wasted 1500 bucks.

Have you built my transmission in a Ford Transit. Got about 30,000 mi since then and its running great.

I was in a road trip for work when my car had major problems and become unsafe to drive. Steve and his staff were amazing taking care of me and my dogs. Helped me find a place to stay for the night and even delivered the car to me once it was complete. On top of that the cost was more than $100 less than the original amount I was quoted. Had to get an emissions test on my car to renew my car plates. I drove up, they immediately walked out and lugged my car in. Once done I paid them to get my new plate tags (the emissions test is FREE), and then left. The process took maybe 10 minutes total.Totally professional and friendly folks.

I was there on vacation and had car troubles. They were the only ones that answered their phone and they were very friendly and replaced my starter by the end of the day even though they were extremely busy. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone that needs their car serviced.

Beyond great! I had some dashboard issues on my way to work and was able to arrive to work safely. I called around and SDR were so great! She offered for them to check the car out and give me their thoughts. I planned to go in after work. On my way from work to SDR, about 5 miles, my dash did the same thing but quicker. I arrived to the shop and Steve greeted me and came right out to look. It wouldnt start and the had to jump it. Steve and the guys were so quick and efficient to make sure I could get it running and get home (45 miles). It was my alternator and they were able to get a new one, replace it, and test it in just about an hour to make sure I could get home. As a woman, I truly appreciate being treated with respect by auto shops, Ive had some negative experiences at other shops and I felt confident that SDR was doing everything they could to help me. Im so appreciative to SDR and couldnt recommend them more.

I have been going to SDR for years. Started with needing to fix the transfer case on my 96 Cherokee, and Ive been going back for vehicle needs ever since. Steve has always been straightforward and has two obvious priorities: 1st, when your vehicle leaves his shop, its ready to go and safe. 2nd, saving you money while making sure your vehicle gets the best parts and service. Hes honest with you, and will tell you if what your vehicle needs, if anything. I feel I cant say enough for this review, but I wont bore you with the details. He is an honest professional, who leads an honest and professional staff of mechanics- they will go above and beyond to do right by you.

Called and talked to Steve about trans rebuild. 3rd gear grinding. Explained the situation. Didnt want to bring it in and get socked the 100+ diagnostic fee for a simple test drive. I know the problem. Bad 3rd gear syncro ring and gear. A good mechanic who works on transmissions full time can give you a pretty accurate quote in my opinion for a rebuild. He said he had no idea on cost. I pushed him a bit further. He said easily 1000-1500+ probably more. That scared me!! I dont like the open pocketbook type of repairs. And once they have your trans out your stuck. Plain and simple. Either pay to get your car back or have no car. Not playing that game. And I guarantee you the cost is ALWAYS hundreds more. I will keep on shopping to find a shop who makes me feel more secure on cost.

The inspect the vehicle for potential future problems and advise. My latest service was for Transmission service and they found a serious issue with the brakes that I was unaware of. I will have to say that Steve is the nicest person I have dealt with. This is my 2nd time having my car with him and even though this time the news for my car was not great Steve delivered it in such a way that it made it seem like not the end of the world. He explained what was wrong with my car in a very easy to understand way and explained all my options to me and which options would be the most cost effective for me. He even went above and beyond and took the time to research a slightly used engine for my car without even knowing if that was going to be what i was going to do just to make sure he had ALL my options covered. I would recommend Steve and the SDR crew to anyone. One of the best customer service experiences i have ever had. And I used to work in the automotive industry so i know how money hungry shops can be. That is not the case with Steve. He was more concerned with what was more affordable for me.

And 15 road trips later...My wife and I have been making regular trips from Wisconsin to Arkansas for 3 years, about two years ago just outside of Chicago the throwout bearing in My mustang started to go, a real nail biting 160 miles.When I got to Kenosha I called SDR and they scheduled me in right away, they looked over the car, called me with the estimate and started the work. When I picked the car up it was perfect and the annoying noise that was normal to me after 3 years of driving it was gone too, and now the rest of the story.It has been 2 years since that install, I have driven back and forth a dozen times, 1500 miles each trip, in addition all of my local commuting errands, stop and go traffic, and what must have been a million shifts, and this car is still shifting flawlessly without a single issue.My family has been put through the grind for the last two years and never once was that car a thought.SDR did reliable work, such a short sentence but the peace of mind has been immeasurable.

Working with SDR was a great experience. The atmosphere was inviting and the personnel were friendly as well as knowledgeable. I ended up needing a ton of repairs, but everything was explained to me in detail and I was even given a tour under my vehicle to show me why each item was needed. I plan to return if needed in the future and hopefully will get another 100,000 miles out of my car.

Another auto shop told me I needed the master cylinder replaced, so I brought my car to SDR Total Auto Repair to replace the master cylinder. To my surprise Steve at SDR did a full inspection and afterwards informed me that the master cylinder was fine and that I only needed the brakes adjusted. SDR saved me over $100.00, they were completely truthful about the repair needs of my vehicle and they still completed the job even though it was way pass closing time. They dropped me off at home while they did the work and picked me up in my car to have me test the newly adjusted brakes. Now the brakes work better than ever! I have issues with others repair and dealers, everytime I go to SDR they fix the auto right the first time even with complicated issues I have had in the past. We have been taking our cars to SDR since we moved to Kenosha eight years ago. Steves team does a wonderful job. His estimates are accurate, the work is fairly priced and the cars are done on time. I started bringing a Geo Prizm into SDR when it had 25,000 miles on it; its still going at 192,000 miles. Steve is direct about explaining whether work needs to be done now, soon, or later this year, and you never feel like youre being frightened into agreeing to unnecessary work. SDR has also worked on our two Honda Odysseys and a Mini Cooper. We trust them to keep us safe on the road.

I have know Steve for 20+ years and his team has always provided excellent service at reasonable prices. I have not found a better warranty in the city of Kenosha.

Ive already seen a similar story in the feedback, so we are not the only lucky ones to run into a genuine and helpful mechanic. My wife and I are out of town (Green Bay), we were about to come buy a used car in Kenosha, but we definitely needed a mechanic to check it. I ran into Steve, the owner, by accident, just called to ask if he had time to look at the car that day. He said he might find the time for a full inspection, but offered to look at the car first to see if its worth it. When we brought the car Steve was pretty busy, but he came out to see us right away and spent about half an hour with us. He rode the car, looked under the hood, checked different parts, gave recommendations and said the car was alright and didnt need further inspection (which wasnt expensive anyway). Didnt take any money for the time and effort even though he knew we were out of town. We would definitely get service at SDR if we lived in Kenosha. These people wont trick you!

I took my car in to have the windshield wipers motor replaced and received the most excellent customer service experience from a car mechanic shop. First, I would like to mention how clean the facility is. The shop gives you a feel of a new car dealership. This is an upscale shop with down home prices. they offer you coffee while you wait, or would even be so kind as to drop you off. The Owner Steve, the receptionist and all the servicemen were very clean courteous and professional. When I got my car back it was clean and feeling good. My oil change was completed and they even check my tires before I left. My car wasnt starting, even with a new battery. Took it to SDR and they ran every test they could to figure out what was causing my battery to drain. They were very through in their work while fixing my car, more than that they were patient and made sure I understood what the problem was. My family has been going to SDR for a few years now and have received nothing but excellent service and fair prices!

Steve and his entire staff have been so great! I had to get my entire engine rebuilt on a car that does not even have 100,000 miles on it. This job would have broke my bank but Steve told me that I should call the GMC Customer Service line to make sure there were no special warranties or recalls on the engine. I called and was able to get my entire engine repaired at no cost to me except $650.00. In order to have GMC help pay for it I had to take my car back to the GMC dealership. Steve knew this would be the case and he still was honest and willing to help me in any way he could even though he wasnt going to be making any money off me at this time. The last three times I went to him he has taken care of me as if I were family. I also have to comment on how extremely clean and inviting you keep your shop. It is much appreciated! Thank you SDR!

Make sure you know about the $100.00 diagnostic charge. This may or may not be credited to your total repair bill. I was insulted when Steve insisted that all dealerships and repair shops have this practice. I agree that a dealership does, but not ALL repair shops do. My mechanic in Chicago never charged this, although Steve insisted he did. I guess he never heard about never arguing with your customer. Also, if he pays his mechanics, say, $30.00 per hour (just an example) and it takes them more than 3 hours to figure out what is wrong with the car, maybe he should get some new mechanics and save the customer the $100.00. Its one thing to pay for the time the mechanic spends on your car, but then to pay an additional $100.00.....not.

SDR is a fantastic resource for automobile repairs. Steve and his staff are the best! Our Acura MDX had some issues at 200,000 miles and we were treated fairly with regard to price and service. I brought my 1965 Nova in for a engine timing and carb tune up and Steve did a great job. It was runnin like crap when I brought it in and when I picked it up it was runnin really smooth. I had 3 other mechanics try to tune this car and they could not. The service and knowledge here is unbeatable!

My husband and I were about to buy a car in Kenosha, we are from Chicago. The owner told us he didnt have that much time but to come at the end of the day and he would at least drive it for us and tell us some basics. He did sooo much for us, he looked up data online, he drove it around with us, he looked underneath the car and he spent at least 45 minutes with us. Didnt charge us anything and he knew we would probably not be repeat customers. The owner just seemed to be a really decent good human being. And extremely knowledgeable. IF we lived in Kenosha, he would def be our auto mechanic.
