Absolutely loved this! The first time I have had shaved ice with ice cream at the bottom and it was so worth it! My boyfriend and I split a baby and were satisfied. We got the lava flow with the sweet/sour syrup instead of strawberry per the employees suggestion! Cash only! Might have to stop here again before we leave Maui...

It was just ok. Not overly sweet but not noticeably flavorful either. The coconut ice cream was good as was the Kauai cream over the top. The girl making the shave ice was nice.

Stopped by on our last night. The two girls working were adorable and super friendly. Made great suggestions and chatted with us.

Love, love, love Local Boys Shave Ice. The only location we found was in Kihei. So many flavors to choose from. Enjoyed a medium macadamia ice cream on bottom. Shave ice covered with Rootbeer, Tigers blood flavor and Coconut. Lastly l chose the special cream topping. So yummy!! Hope to see the Lahania location reopen some day.

There’s a reason Peace Love Shave Ice down the road has a long line and Local Boys does not. It was $1 more for 1/4 the amount of shave ice. Local Boys only had the “small” size available for $7, which was a cup slightly larger than a shot glass. It was yummy, but way better value a block away.

I used to love Local Boys years ago and was so excited to bring my kids here. We arrived and found out they were out of the vegan ice cream they advertise. That was fine, but sad. We then tried to order a small shave ice and we’re told they were out of smalls. I asked if we could use a different cup with less ice and still only be charged a small (our two young kids can’t eat that much). She said no. We’d have to pay for the larger cup. And…that’s when we decided to walk down the street to another shop. As we walked past the window, the worker was talking very loudly about us to a co-worker, commenting on how ridiculous it was that we didn’t want to pay extra for shave ice we didn’t want…that didn’t even have the ice cream we wanted in the first place. It was disappointing to say the least.

This place is one of the worst shaved ice places I have gone to. For a 4 person family it was 40 dollars, for shaved ice the size of a shot glass. To much syrup with not enough ice, not a good combination. If you want good shaved ice just go up the street a bit to the right of the shop and you’ll find the best shaved ice in Hawaii.

Passed by this spot mainly bc they had a sign that said they were serving coconut Glenn’s ice cream. Asked if we could just pay to just get ice cream without shaved ice and the kindly let us. As we were ordering I noticed one of the workers in the back was rinsing his long hair and the girl worker asked him to scoop our ice cream. His hair was still wet and had droplets go all over the place, tried to ignore it but as soon as he handed us the ice cream we noticed a strand of hair in the bowl. They replaced it, but we were already turned off by the way they handle food. None of them were wearing gloves on top of that

3:30pm electric sign said Open, lots of people waiting. Where is the staff? Bathroom break? Resting? Customer next to me texted the owner. Ends up they were closed till 430pm. No be back later sign. Lights were on. Windows were open. Music was playing. Open sign was illuminated... #hawaiilife

Listen Maui is known for their Hawaiian ice... but this place is something special. I got what they call the volcano. it sounded gross but tasted out of this world. vanilla ice cream on the bottom vanilla cherry and root beer flavors with cream on top. my friend got the Hawaiian rainbow which sounded gross but she said so it was so good... the staff is always friendly and nice, you can just get ice cream or candy when youre there. this is a must place if youre in Kihei. Enjoy!

I was a regular at the Lahaina location every time we visited Maui in the past and was always impressed.We visited this location as the lahaina location closed during Covid. A nice cheerful high school woman helped us and was very attentive.However the taste were ok, and the overall smell of the location or its surroundings were off a bit. That might be why we enjoyed less than our previous visits...

My husband and I went to 4 different shave ice places on Maui and this was by far the worst one in our opinion. They were out of the “free” ice cream and out of a lot of flavors when we went. We decided to try anyway and were disappointed. My shave ice had hardly any flavor, felt like I was just eating ice/water. Would not recommend...

First time having a REAL shaved ice with my husband and 8yr old. The ice was so fresh n smooth. We can see how its made right in front of us. Staff was very friendly and recommended this Hawaiian rainbow flavor. There are plenty of flavors. I chose coconut ice cream for the base as the staff suggested and it was absolutely amazing. My daughter chose raspberry blue and husband chose Local boy flavor. All were good flavors

The worst shaved ice. Over priced since they conveniently run out of ice cream when you order. Melts in about 2 minutes. Save your money go down the road a ways to Ululanis.

The place is a dive. But dont let the outside fool you. This shaved ice is the best. Flavors are mostly fruity and sourced locally. The ice is not packed, so the syrup fills the entire cup. I love getting the mango ice cream in the middle with the cherry and raspberry syrup on the ice. Service had been great every time at are there. Only wish they offered real spoons because those tongue depresser sticks dont cut it. Great view across the street of the beach and ocean, especially at sunset. The shopping plaza it nestles into hides some nice treasures. Love this place!

Good flavors but a little pricey for the size you get compared to other shaved ice stands around town. Flavor choices were great though for taste.

Best shaved ice I’ve ever had. The ice it’s self has a soft, almost fluffy consistency. Staff is friendly and happy to make recommendations. Would definitely recommend.

We stumbled by this place and it didnt disappoint. The shaved ice here is such great value and so delicious. It comes with ice cream at the bottom which makes the dish so creamy and yummy. There are also a good mix of choices of ice cream that you can choose from. The way the shaved ice is made is that it is long and thin. This makes it not fall apart when you scoop it out, which is an important detail if youve had shaved ice from places that makes it crushed. Did I mention that the prices are super reasonable and affordable?! Highly recommend.

1) we waited in the proper line and she Tried to serve others before us (after waiting a while)2) she then met touching the ice with bare hands. Ringing the cash registers, touching money, moving the ice in machine again touching $$ again. No wash - no glove.Instead of four I bought one small to appease the youngest daughter.Unfriendly and unpleasant experience.

Real shave ice right here. The ice is smooth. Like biting snow. You can pick ice cream as base of your shave ice. I would recommend going for it. Brings an additional dimension to the shave ice experience. They have a whole whole whole lot of flavours to chose from. Some very interesting ones too.

Visiting Maui on vacation we stopped here for some shaved ice and had a very pleasant experience with the first girl who served us. Decided to go back a few days later and when we asked for the bottom ice cream on the side male employee went off, unwarrantedly, saying how he will just throw our order away because he can’t do that or restart, and that he is deserving of love and respect and shouldn’t have to serve us tourists on our vacations. Ridiculous, unprofessional behavior. On the other hand girl server was wonderful.

The shaved Ice was good, but the girl with her son that was working there was so rude. We have been going there for the last few years every time we visit Maui, but after tonight we will not go there again.

So good! We went several days in a row. Ice cream on the bottom and shave ice on top with cream on top of that. I got blue cotton candy syrup and vanilla ice cream. To die for!

The shave ice was okay but the girl taking our order pretty much must hate life in general. She rolled her eyes, huffed and puffed the entire time she was doing our order. We were the only people there and I felt very rushed and like it was a huge inconvenience for her to do her job.

The young girl working here was pretty unimpressed with life in general. She would touch the cash, handle money, then go open the ice machine and move the block around with her bare hands and gigantic finger nails. They were out of a lot of flavors, the sign was barely legible, and her grouchy attitude didn’t make for a great visit. She had two friends hanging out at the counter and was loudly whining that she still had 3 hours left. I mean, I get it, you don’t like your job, but wash your hands and try to be nice to the customers.

Sweet little local spot on S.Kihei rd. There are so many items on the menu making it hard to choose, especially if youve never had shave ice before. Get some with the Mac nut ice cream on the bottom and you will not be disappointed.I ended up going in the evening and they ran out of some items, but that was probably because theyre so busy throughout the day.All in all a good stop.

Home girl needs to either change jobs, or take a course on hospitality. Choosing to spend our hard earned money at her shave ice shop was SUCH an inconvenience for her. With a mediocre experience the night before, we knew the typical offerings are free ice cream and condensed milk on the top. We were offered neither. My dad spoke up on his order, and she rolled her eyes and threw the beginnings of his order in the sink so she could put ice cream in it. It’s unfortunate there are no other shops open in the evenings to offer some competition for this establishment. We will not be returning.

The server was very quick and cool! She put free coconut ice cream under the shaved ice. was so good! especially on a hot day.

Their shaved ice was delicious and perfectly shaped. It felt like eating cherry snow, and the condensed milk was a creamy and welcome addition.

Tried this local attraction to see what it was all about. There are tones of flavors to choose from and the staff was very helpful. We chose the Pina Colada and found it was tart. I would recommend if youre new to shaved ice to decide if you want sweet or sour. That may make it easier to pick. Im sure that when you know what flavors you like youd be back often.

Best shave ice on Maui. Not too expensive, and all shave ice comes with ice-cream and Kauai cream. Were locals here on Maui, and this is the real deal.

They have a suuuuper tasty passion fruit sorbet! My dining companion loved their shaved ice too. Vanilla and butterscotch. Im not a shaved ice guy myself but she loved it.

Insipid flavors and coarse ice. I threw mine away it was so unappealing. Flavor and ice are better at Ululanis. At least Local Boys doesnt use plastic bowls that inevitably wind up in the landfill or the ocean.

Local Boys Shave Ice was so tasty! We got the Snow White, which is has pina colada and coconut flavoring. The server was great, and she told us to get pineapple or coconut ice cream instead of the vanilla (which usually comes with it) since everyone knows what vanilla ice cream tastes like. We tried both which were amazing, and since we couldnt decide which one was better, the girl gave us a scoop of both (only because it was our firsttime there). Our family of four devoured the shave ice in literally one minute it was so good! We highly recommend for shave ice!

This place was disappointing. It had a approximately 35 minute line, the shaved ice was hard but melted quickly, the flavors did not have enough flavor and the flavors did not did not stand out.

Tried local boys and Ululanis on the same trip. Local boys has 1/4 the flavors of Ululanis and they only have a very small $4.50 size and a $10 size. One was too big and the other too small. One server behind the desk on a saturday afternoon made us abandon the line after 15 minutes. The server was working quickly but the place was just understaffed.
