I was really hoping to find a small coffee shop that could make quality espresso beverages so I could avoid giving Starbucks my money. Instead, I found an uncomfortable atmosphere, confusing branding, and, more questions than I could count.I asked if I could order a traditional flat white (not what Starbucks thinks this beverage is), and, I ended up with a 12 oz latte instead of 5-6oz of a flat white. The milk they’re using, is clearly just from Aldi.I don’t even know if they have an ice maker there, because, as previous reviews mentioned, they put like ENORMOUS cubes of ice in the drink.I paid $8 for two drinks, and, when prompted with tip options the first listed option was for a 100% tip. Pretty bold move, even for a pretentious coffee shop with one employee.When I left, I asked the employee working out of curiosity what he thought a flat white was- and, he told me it was a latte with no foam. I ordered it iced. As a barista, my soul is essentially screaming at this point.After waiting a good 10 minutes for the two drinks I ordered (americano and “flat white” aka giant latte), I head to the car and notice a totally different company name on the cup. Why?Regardless, if I wanted to spend this much money on coffee, I expected an experience to match the price. Or, at least the knowledge point or concern for my intentions and order.My search for decent espresso continues…

Came here with my partners and what a gem! We each enjoyed our drinks which were picked by a game with the gatchapon machine! (Like a kids toy or gumball machine). The barista, Richard, was great. Offering to add any additional flavors to our drinks or swap out our drinks if we didn’t like the mystery choice! Playing the mystery game also seems like you save a little bit of money only paying 4 dollars for whatever medium sized drink you get. They sell super cute reusable cups and collection items. The atmosphere is amazingly cozy. Bring your own Kuma-Chan bear to enjoy it with. Your bear friend will be sure to enjoy the outing with you!(Yes even if you are an adult!! The world is too crazy now to care what people think about stuffed animals)

I was enjoying a beautiful afternoon coffee in a storage room?! This is unbelievable, dust everywhere and the floor.... a lot of sand....I could feel it every step. Idk whats wrong with this coffee shop with so many 5 star reviews. Very disappointed.

Such a cute place to sit down for a little and read. They have good matcha and good coffee. Their show case is a bit messy and they use the giant ice cubes they take up the whole drink. But I would overall still go again.

First time there. Had Japanese cold coffee.Yum!! ( cold coffee with a little kick) by the way cold coffee is a lot less acidic 😉. A bit on the high side$$ but always like to try new things. TheRest of coffees cost wise were comparable to other places. Cute place a little hidden but thats part of the charm. Little old house big windows to enjoy inside and out😍. I love the mom and pop coffee houses.!!No food at this time, hopefully things will pick up and they can get back to full steam ahead again. In the meantime go try them out and support. 👍😊

I love love love this coffee shop. The Japanese drip coffee is so good! I also love getting their butter cookies whenever they haven’t run out. I also appreciate the coffee ice cube they put in my coffee so it doesn’t dilute the flavor. The minimalist aesthetic and the right amount of sunlight just helps me clear my mind and enjoy my blessings as I sip my iced coffee on a fine weekend afternoon.

I absolutely adore this quaint place. It doesnt look like it belongs in the area, but Im sure glad its there. The inside is bright and clean, no fuss, minimalist, relaxing. The coffee doesnt need cream or sugar. The staff is great. A hidden gem off busy 434.

My hot coffee was in plastic cup for cold coffees which made the coffee cold pretty quick. There is no food except old cake. I probably will not be back.

Coffee is great. Atmosphere is not as cozy as I prefer but still solid. Its a white, clean and sterile feel. No food options, just some sweets (which I had butter cookies and they were good). Free wifi. Service is decent and they have several options for flavoring.

Let me preface this by saying I am not the type of person that chooses to go to cafes of my own volition (my wife is, however). spending exorbitant amounts on flavored milk just isnt the first thing that comes to mind for me when I want to enjoy myself... but, anyways, on with why this place gets one star:february 4th - a thursday.wife wants to take me to this cafe shed been hyping up since forever; I am no stranger to these types of places after having spent the past 10 years in new york, so I was lead to assume it must be particularly good considering all the cafes wed been together to in the city, but... what a mistake that was.large matcha iced latte.large iced coffee.2 slices of tiramisu.around 20ish dollars + 20% gratuity on top of that.I attached a photo of the iced matcha latte - there were 3 comically massive ice blocks (around 3x3 inches each) stacked in my drink... I probably finished it in three sips (no joke) before spending the rest of my time sitting there in astonishment cuz I had nothing else to do while wife gets up to take photos of her coffee (which was fine btw and didnt include the iceberg that sank the titanic). as bad as the ice thing was... my drink was literally just milk with a teaspoon (me being generous here cuz it was more like a sprinkling) of matcha added to it - at least there was whipped cream on top, lol. it was pretty messed up that the barista just decided to send it instead of like, idk, offering me literally anything else or uh, just not taking my money?a bit later, the barista actually comes to the back to ask us if everything was okay - wife says yes to avoid confrontation, and I just laughed to myself quietly like some sort of weird anime villain because there wasnt much else to do in that absolute cringe situation - if this lady handed me this drink in good conscience, shes either delusional or completely unhinged... either way, I just wanted out asap, so I suppose Ill never find out, because I cant be convinced to step foot into this place again. what a disgrace.edit: my wife says the owners run the place decently [when present]... so, I guess just turn around and walk out if you see some alt-looking caucasian girl, lol.

Amazing coffee. Absolutely must try the Japanese drip, so smooth and packed with flavor. And the store? My goodness how cute and clean. Tucked away behind some big trees off the main road. Love it.

I love this coffee shop. It is always so quiet and calm in there. A great place to relax, journal, or get some work done. They have some unique menu items, like Japanese iced coffee, and they always have interesting creations in the pastry case.

I must have come on an off day. The coffee tasted like it was made from well water or Florida tap water as we all are aware of is not very good. Went there because of the wonderful reviews. But sadly enough it was not a pleasant experience. The service was a bit abrupt as well I guess it was to close to closing. Hate leaving reviews like this but was not a great experience. I’ll consider going back on a different day where the experience would be different, under different circumstances. If the experience is better I would be more than happy to change this review.Changing my review from one start to 3 stars just because the effort the business took to acknowledge my primary concern. Will most definitely be returning a second time for a second experience. I look forward to a more positive experience. Will update soon.

This is a brand new coffee house across from the Longwood First Baptist Church on 434. The coffee is very good and the owners are friendly. La Kuma has only been open for a day. Very nice inside with a phonograph for musical enjoyment. Come support this unique and wonderful addition to the world of coffee!

I was not a fan of the coffee, and they had little to no food choices. I tried one of their cheesecakes and it wasnt my favorite.

Our family loves to try new places and support local businesses. However, this coffee shop needs some work. The barista was off putting and the coffee preparation was sub par. We tried both the iced and hot and both had a very bitter aftertaste.

I came here for coffee while my car was getting serviced. Wow this place is a DIAMOND. I got the Japanese drip coffee and it is amazing!! The employee was also very knowledgeable and patient answering all my questions.

Hands down the best place. For people leaving any reviews other than 5 stars for any and all small businesses during COVID should really check themselves. I know the owner of this great amazing cozy coffee shop and he works extremely hard to make the best most delicious coffee in town. He has given up a lot to serve his community and in my opinion his coffee (especially his Pourovers) are in the very top of my list.

Lovely little coffee shop. I ordered the Japanese ice drip, which was very smooth and flavorful. I normally drink my coffee with milk and sugar, but this coffee tasted good black. I also got the matcha mousse. The space itself is bright and airy. This is a nice place to set up with your laptop and work all day.

The coffee, tea, and desserts here are all excellent and served in a clean and modern setting with a few cute touches. The staff is friendly and welcoming. This is also the perfect place to go if you like everything and are indecisive! You can buy a token for the capsule machine that has various menu items written on slips of paper inside the capsules. Its a fun way to choose a drink at random. Anyone Ive recommended La Kuma Coffee to has loved it, too!

The building is very small but please do not let the outside appearance mislead you. We traveled over 30min our of our way for their Yama cold brew and it was amazing. With COVID, there are very few seats inside but the interior is so charming and the staff had impeccable service, attention to detail and presentation.

I stopped in around 6pm for a regular black coffee to go. On the menu the cost of a regular grind 12oz coffee was just under $2.00.The young man making my drink must of made me something else because the drink cost me over $3.00 and it took him several minutes to make, going back and forth from a coffee grinder and a container holding water.Unfortunately the coffee was weak in taste and warm in temperature.If made stronger and hot this would of been one of the best cups of coffee I have ever had and I would of gave it 4 stars.

This coffee house is truly a gem. Their hand dripped coffee is amazing, their butter cookies melt in your mouth and the atmosphere is the cherry on top. The atmosphere is calming, relaxing and truly blissful! I cannot wait to visit this coffee house more often.

Nice quiet little place, great for relaxing or for a quick cup on the run. The small visible parking lot was initially a detractor, but theyve got a lot more parking than it appears from the road. The coffee is very well made and it shows that the employees really care about the business.

Its peaceful and convenient, with outstanding coffee and beverages. Also a reasonable base price for plain high quality coffee. Hope the expand to outdoor seating as well.

I have been looking for a cafe for a while and this place is just perfect. The coffee was delicious and it was a great price, the atmosphere was inviting and relaxing, the employee was so polite and helpful. This place is just amazing, would totally make the trip to come here again. My brother doesnt even like coffee and he says he would love to join me again next time I come due to how great the place is. Do yourself a favor and stop by for sure.

Lovely coffee shop. The atmosphere, service and coffee are all first rate. I tried the Ethiopian coffee as a pour over. It was excellent. Their signature double-filter cold brew was really nice. Served with a giant cube of COFFEE ice in it. Such a good idea. Gives the drink a little extra kick.

Wonderful atmosphere and the employees are very, very helpful and knowledgeable about their coffee. They had answers to all my questions and they offered me samples of their Japanese style coffee. There were two different types of the Japanese style coffee, a lighter flavored one and a heavier flavored one. They serve them black or with cream and flavored syrup. Their hot coffees come with whipped cream and chocolate, depending on which one you order (my mother had the hot mocha). They also have a decent tea selection. I definitely suggest this place to anyone who thinks places like Starbucks are good, because Starbucks doesnt even compare to this place. La Kuma is fantastic. Its a cozy little place off 434 that sits under a canopy of oak trees, and again, I definitely recommend this place to anyone who even remotely enjoys coffee.

Amazing coffee! Perfect relaxation spot to get the best coffee Ive ever had. I stopped in to get a post-lunch espresso and with the owners recommendations I ended up with the best cup of flavored espresso ever created, and most potent too! I cant recommend this establishment enough. I just wish they opened a little earlier, Id definitely wake up a few minutes early to enjoy an awesome cup of coffee and start my day in the relaxed and comfortable environment hes created before work, itd really set the mood for the day.

The folks at La Kuma take their coffee seriously. They utilize a japanese gravity drip method the get the perfect taste and caffeine content. The prices are fair and the shop is open, bright and inviting. The barista that helped us was very cordial and made me a delicious cafe latte. After being there and seeing other orders I cant wait to go back. I love the coffee ice cubes!

I cant even believe a spot this cute opened within walking distance of my grandmothers.. I am completely in love. So adorable with delicious coffees, teas and desserts that remind me of the tea houses in Singapore where I grew up. I will seriously be here every weekend.

Love it. Great ambiance, excellent quality, very personable. Was going to be in the area to meet a friend and colleague on the fly, wanted something just for a quick cup and some business chat. This was WAY better than finding a Starbucks or bagel shop. Not really any foood food to choose from, but for our moment it was spot on. We WILL go again, and I have jotted it for future business meet ups and friend catch ups. Wish it were more in an area I frequent!

The place looks really nice. But coffee is burnt and portions of cakes are really small. The cakes are delicious, though. Staff is not very quick in serving unless you stay next to the barista and remind them about yourself.
