Couldnt find a hardware store in DTLA, then got what I needed here (a few washers for a home project).Its also maybe worth noting that this shop and its owners are from a bygone era of everything that was great about America. They presumably own the store and it feels like its been there since long before 1st street became the hip main street of Little Tokyo.The care they took picking out my washers, cataloging the purchase, and calculating the price made me think I was about to get gouged. Then they charged me $1.46. I felt bad paying that little for such good service and useful products that I couldnt get anywhere else downtown.It feels mawkish saying this, but the whole vibe and style of these people made me feel sentimental for an America I never lived in and that I like to imagine once existed.

Little gem in Little Tokyo. Friendly couple and awesome shop with Japanese knives and various kitchen and homewares. I got bamboo skewers and plastic rice molds which were super cute. Highly recommend!

You can get Binchōtan charcoal here! This is very special stuff, and the only charcoal thats reasonably usable in a konro or other small BBQ grill. Also, theres a very fine assortment of Japanese knives, tools and a small assortment of housewares, and the family that runs the place is very friendly and helpful. This store is definitely an endangered species, which is a real shame, because its so special. The neighborhood is changing around it. Definitely get in and take a look. This place is one of a kind.

No place like it. great resource for Japanese garden tools

I went in to get a paint sample before committing to a color, and the man by the paint counter was SUPER helpful. He hooked me up with everything I need to get started on my project and was very informative. The man at the register was also very friendly and genuine. I appreciate realness. Its easy to tell when someone is being fake on the job, and everyone here was very nice! Overall a great experience. Ill definitely be back.

Glad I found this place! I have only bought mason jars and window screens here but they store is organized and they have great sales. The sales associates are always nice and helpful! They have different sized mason jars and nice glass bottles that are twice the price at The Container Store.

Anzen hardware has been one of my favorite spots in the hood since I moved here 3 years ago. Anzen run the place themselves and have never let me down. How many hardware stores give you personal attention from the owner? Not many in this era.While my trips to the hardware store have become less frequent since the multiple weekly trips when I first moved in, I still enjoy shopping there and discuss the project of the day with Anzen, who seems to know the exact nut, bolt and washer for every project and exactly which shelf and hook they are hanging from. Anzen is one of the old good guys in the hood.

I M notorious for losing my receipts and they can look up your purchases for return by your phone number! I bought a small Japanese kitchen knife from here, for about $7 and it is the sharpest knife I own. Not all of them had a perfectly assembled handle, but I found one that was good enough, the blade alone is great for the price. If you are in the market for a good, inexpensive, SHARP kitchen knife, look here first. It cuts through anything beautifully with zero effort.

Cole Hardware stores are wonderful indeed. Especially for Los Angeles, CA who live in daily episodes of This Old House--my house is 105 years old--they have everything. One of their best services are their recommended tradesmen, who do everything from carpentry, double hung window repair, locksmiths, etc.Marc Es toque, master locksmith, is one of these, always on time, exceptional work, all at reasonable prices. Highly recommend.
