First of all, the ice cream at this chain is the closest your going to get to perfection. My first taste was in NYC and I was a little sad that I couldnt squeeze another trip in before my return home. To my excitement I found out we had the chain here in LA. When I came in I was greeted by Dan who I ended up being the sweetest rep Ive ever met. I told him about my obsession with the Earl Grey Flavor and he explained the process the company goes through to make the ice cream and the purity of the ingredients. He actually got me more excited about trying some new flavors and toppings. He offered me a try of vegan peanut butter, pistachio, and honeycomb. Im a creature of habit but I think Dan confirmed that theres more to life I could be living. Ha! I love this place! CHEERS!!

A little hard to find cus of google directions but after a little walk, we found our way. Perfect for a late night snack. Great variety of classic, vegan and eclectic flavors. Helpful gentleman gave us pointers on which to try out. We also took ice cream bars and pints to go! 😋 Nice art on outside walls including Sandoners art. Definitely worth checking out.

We were treated to the Van Leeuwen Ice Cream truck at work today!All day I was running my mouth saying things like, I hope its real ice cream and not fake slushy stuff.I ordered the Cookies & Cream Caramel swirl on a cone and was in heaven!COME TO FIND OUT THAT ITS VEGAN AND NON-DAIRY! As someone who cant stand fake ice cream, this was the best best best best best ice cream I have ever had. I am STUNNED and SHOCKED that this is both Vegan and Dairy-free. Like, how is this possible? SO creamy and thick and wonderful.I cant wait to visit one of their shops to try out some other fun flavors!

I had a great experience with the ice cream at Van Leeuwen. There is parking across the street, which was relatively full for a Wed evening. Unfortunately the flavor that I wanted was not available but I was able to select my second choice. Beware that there is no restroom at this location.

Even better, the chocolate. In our neighborhood, this is the best shop. We had some excellent ice cream.

Expensive, rude, small portions and NOT WORTH ITand dont bother to ask for a sample because we dont do all that herei went here to try and support a local place and i regret not getting basic ice cream from the market, at least then you get your moneys worth without the sassy attitude.

My favorite flavor here is the Strawberry Jam ice cream. Just for this O already keep coming back. They have a lot of other different flavors and a lot of them are delicious but this is the one flavor that I just personally really like and crave for some reason.They have vegan options as well. Beware is you have but allergies sinceo of their vegan flavors contains nuts.

I cant promise Ill be back. I so wanted to love this place. I love the trendy location and the aesthetic, but ice cream must be good.

Omg i came here thinking that i would have two vegan options at most but my mind was blown when i had to make a decision of which ice cream to choose from because there were just as many vegan as regular flavors. they even have vegan fudge!! Im glad this place is far away from where i live 😱 because my doctor would not be happy 😁

The Earl Grey ice cream was great. However the mint chip was terrible. The chocolate had no flavor and tasted powdery. There were little chewy bits that felt like chewing on paper. The chocolate cookies were crispy in an old way instead of chewy and mightve been stale. If I do go back Im sticking to the Earl Grey ice cream.

Home of the charcoal ice cream and exotic flavored latte (charcoal included). The staffs are very friendly and offer to let u taste all their ice cream flavor. The line to order could be long because first time customers tend to take up time about what to offered.

Nice little ice cream place in the arts district. It does not really stick out and is a bit small. However the ice cream is quite good. They have both a vegan and regular option and the vegan options are surprisingly good. I had the strawberry and tried both and actually went for the vegan. Good spot to check out if you are in the area. The prices are decent, slightly high but decent.

07/31/2020 (7pm)-The ice cream is good ( I had the vegan choc chip and it was yummy but SO SO SO sweet I count only have a couple of bites. Which is fine whatever but... the poor guy working there was having a hard time. Mixed up orders, couldn’t hear or understand what people where asking him and even though he messed up my boyfriends milkshake he made another one but charged us for two. I was in there for about 20 mins so by the end of it I didn’t even say anything. Help this man out, he was obviously stressed. Get him a coworker!For one scoop of ice cream and a milkshake it was 24 bucks... kind of crazy but I didn’t get a receipt so don’t know if it was the milkshake mix up was or if it’s just that expensive.

Cool little modern artisanal ice cream shop. The staff was super friendly and the flavors are available in dairy and vegan options. I ordered the dairy option pistachio which was delicious and not too sweet. The pistachio actually tasted like pistachio if that makes sense. LOL

Just picked up a scoop and waited in line.Line moves fast, dont be discouraged. Mind games I tell you. Your option for cones are petite or single. Who wants to order a petite? So I got a single and its humongous. But, the ice cream is quite light, so I actually ate most of it.

Genuinely the best strawberry ice cream Ive ever had. It tasted so natural! Like an actual strawberry! I love that they have a variety of both creative and traditional flavors. The decor and atmosphere of the shop is really lovely. Also, the service is great. They let you try a bunch of flavors (which is good bc all of the flavors are awesome) and are super friendly!

Van Leeuwen Ice Cream is one of the only businesses in the area that has some extra parking spaces in their private lot. Most of the area is used as diner for hungry patrons. However, what Van Leeuwen Ice Cream is known for is their ice cream. It is famous enough to make it into Pixars movie, Up.

This is my favorite ice cream Ive ever had in my life. I sampled all of the flavors and they were all magical. I ended up getting the local, fire weed, which was light years better than any other ice cream place who also served fire weed.

The mother earth and the cookie dough was stern, creamy, full of multiple flavor enhancements, chunks of real chocolate, marshmallow, real stuff. .amazing. customer service was standard, place is tiny, yet enough, they serve coffee too.Kinda pricy, $5.50 a scoop, but this one is worth the money. Way less crowded then salt & straw, will be back.

A great place for gelato! I loved the environment, and the staff was really friendly. It seemed like a family business, and they even had an area where dogs could be kept while youre inside. Eh very expensive and tiny portions so not really my thing. I think there are a lot of options for vegans though, so it might be good to check out if you have dietary restrictions.The scoops were so small... like 1/4 the size of a scoop at Salt and Straw which is just down the street. I would honestly go check that out rather than Van Leeuwen.

Probably one of my favorite ice cream shops, though I am more of a soft serve kinda gal. A lot of people head over to the more known Salt & Straw down the street. However, Van Leeuwen is the more vegan/natural friendly choice. The seasonal flavors are pretty solid and the vegan flavors do not disappoint. NOT a local business (made and shipped from NY).

The service and ice cream never disappoint. My husband and I were wanting ice cream for dessert and decided on Van Leeuwen Ice Cream.

First, Van Leeuwens is an institution in Oakland. It can only be compared to Tuckers in Alameda (ugh), or Loards various East Bay locations (changed), Mitchells in Los Angeles.

The vegan ice creams here are among the best Ive ever had. The cashew base takes the flavor a very well and maintains a nice texture as it softens. All the flavors I have had are good. Also look for the VL truck out and about.

I paid 5.50 for a single scoop of vanilla ice cream in a cup, no toppings. At first I thought this was way too much for a scoop of ice cream especially since Im used to rite aid lol after the first bite of ice cream it justified the price. Hands down the best vanilla ice cream Ive ever tasted
