This place was a life saver. Dave fixed my rusty exhaust for a great price and in less than a day from when I reached out to him. My car sounds great. Would strongly recommend this place for students as it is affordable and within biking/walking distance from campus.

We sent our son here for winterization of his car. It would have been easy for them to charge us for a coolant flush. Instead they checked it out and said it was good to go. Great to find an honest place he can take the car that is close to the UW campus!

My first time with Don The Car Care Man at the University Ave was during the time while I buying my current car. While all other places either quoted me higher prices or were super busy for a car inspection, Dons price was reasonable as well as was flexible with timings. They gave a detailed report on the car and told me that the serpentine belt ($170) is wearing off and needs to be replaced soon. With this, I was able to bargain a better price before buying my current car. In fact, the serpentine belt broke less than two months of me buying the car as they predicted.I have been getting my oil change here every 3-4 months ever since. Mine is a 11 year old car with 220 k miles, so there are new issues that regularly pops up. They give me estimates for all the repairs, they also tell me which one is necessary for me to drive and which is not (like my cars rattling noise at times which Im fine with). They also call me if they find new issues while they are working and ask for my decision before moving further. Im grateful to them for always being honest and kind to me.I strongly recommend the place on the University Ave especially if you work close to the campus. I usually call them to see if I can drop my car off in the morning before going to work at UW and I pick my car back around 5 pm when I head back home. This way I dont have to worry about losing working hours.Thanks Don The Car Care Man!

Been here a couple of times. I do a mix of maintenance on my own and at a mechanic, so Im always balancing cost and complexity. The customer service here is great - theyre friendly and transparent when you ask questions to understand the reasons for repairs and their pricing. The University location is also walkable from the engineering campus.

I started using Dons about 3 years ago as I work downtown. After 3 years and several maintenance visits and required service visits, it is my go to place for anything auto. Locally owned, friendly, great prices. They are good people doing good work.

I would have given more than 4 stars before, but will be looking for a different car shop now. I had my winter tires put on in the shop, while there, they called me and said my muffler needed to be changed too, so they did that as well. Since I had my car at the shop the right rear wheel makes extremely strange whistling/scratchy sounds. You can hear it while driving slow, but it really gets loud after 40 mph. So I called, they looked at it for free, but said nothing was wrong with it. When I went there to pick it up, I showed the mechanic that something is rubbing on the tire, and his response was thats ok, itll just wear off over time. Thats definitely unacceptable! So when you want your car really looked at, even after they performed a service that wasnt to perfection, looks like youll have to pay, otherwise nothing is wrong. Ill be looking for a different shop to look at the origin of that extremely irritating noise.

Dons has the best service Ive ever gotten at a car place and one of the best experiences Ive had at a business. They are very knowledgeable and skilled and will help you understand what your cars problem is- they dont make you feel dumb even if you know nothing about cars like me! I interacted with 3 of their employees and all were very nice too which I didnt expect because thats never a given at any business unfortunately. They also got my cars problems fixed (new shocks, new shock plates, and some suspension problems) within less than a day which I also didnt expect at all given past experiences elsewhere. Would definitely recommend.

Incredible mechanics. Another place quoted me a ridiculously higher amount than Dons, who didnt try to upsell and just did an excellent job at what needed to be done on my car. Ive been there a few times now. Consistently really friendly, professional and quick. Thank you so much to these folks!

Always come here, labor is a lil pricey but so worth it. Theyre super nice people and have a quick turnaround when you need it! Fixed my radiator, fixed my hood, fixed my friends crazy battery, and it was all relatively affordable and well done.

I was so impressed that I had to write a review for their amazing services. I found out late one night that I had a flat tire, so I left the shop a voicemail. They called me back promptly the next morning, ordered new tires for my vehicle, and had them installed all in the same day. Gary was friendly and communicative, offering me a list of options to solve my predicament and keeping me updated throughout. Im so happy to have found such a wonderful car care business so close by.

The owner is passive agressive and overcharged me to keep my car ALL day to look at it for 30min. They have no idea how to uphold a scheduled appointment nor care to. The bill stated they replaced a part when I know for a fact they did not. I do not typically give reviews but this was so unethical I had to share it. They will take advantage of you and smile while they do it, DO NOT GO HERE. I gave them 2 instead of 1 because they do have certified mechanics that actually were very honest about the condition of my car..but the management and customer service was terrible. Will not go back.

TL;DR: Amazing customer service service, highly reasonable prices, great turnaround times.After being quoted an unreasonable price for a rear brake job, I shopped around and went with these guys for a price I could actually afford without breaking the bank. When I got there, there was no upselling... just straight forward, what you see is what you get salesmanship.I didnt have anyone to come get me, so I settled in with my computer, and the guy behind the counter insisted on closing the blinds for me so I wouldnt get so much glare on my screen.My brake job was done in less time than they had told me to expect.Everyone was friendly, respectful, and wonderful to work with. Definitely returning in the future!

Had a loud clunking sound from my front sway bar. Other shops told me Id need to replace the sway bar links so I got a quote from the shop to do the repair. Once I arrive the staff was very friendly and made sure you felt taken care of. Once they got my vehicle up on the lift they took the time to explain that my sway bar links were fine and all that needed to be changed were 2 rubber bushings which ended up costing me almost 3 times less than I had planned on spending! And while they were under there they even took the time to point out a few other minor repairs that were needed. They let me decide how much and which repairs to do. Once that was done they ordered the parts which they got in within a few hours. They called me when they arrived and scheduled the repair right away. Once I arrived I was in and out of there in about a half hour. Afterward they worked with me to schedule my next repairs and on a Saturday none the less! Great service that I highly recommend if you want to be given the best attention, advice, and super speedy service. I will be going here for all my auto repair needs.

Way over priced to fix muffler and exhaust system. Go to MexMuffler for anything exhaust on Park Street. Quick, knowledgeable, friendly and inexpensive service. Avoid Don the Car care man if you dont want to get ripped off.

The first few services/oil changes were great. The service was friendly and timely. But these last few times were really unlike them. I chalked up the first incident as a one off, but then something else happened a second time and finally the third time, called last week to inform of a drop off for an oil change. Dropped the keys in the box and called later that afternoon to see if it was done. They didn’t even see the keys until after I called and then said yah oops dropped the ball—in the ole game of baseball three strikes and your out.

Recently moved to the Madison area and took my car in to get looked at. They didnt try to sell me anything I didnt need and had my car done quickly. The service was fast and friendly. Will definitely be going back in the future

Right away this place feels nicer than most of the shops around the East Side. I needed a muffler welded in place of the loud one on my car currently. I called four other places and was turned away because I purchased the muffler myself. The people on the phone were rude and sounded annoyed that I called. Don The Car Care Mans Employee David was extremely professional and courteous on the phone, and was able to set me up with an appointment for the next day. Very great service, Ill be coming here from now on.

My car made a loud clattering sound, it was embarrassing, I would get looks from people when I drove by. They told me they would fix it and charged me $500 for new shocks. I even drove one the mechanics around to point out the problem, he even acknowledged he heard the clattering after fixing it! I went to another mechanic who found the problem (brake related) and had it fixed in 20min. (Quick Lane at Middleton Ford is a waaaaaaay better place)

I had an excellent experience here. I needed a full break job done so I took my car in at night and picked my car up the next day early afternoon, they did a great job and were very friendly, I will definitely be taking my car back here for any future needs.

Went originally to remove stripped screws and install a new license plate on the rear side of my car. Since the installation, the fob controlled wireless trunk release stopped working. So I took my car back to them. At first the counter spokesperson didnt want to admit that my problem was because of a mistake on their end and recommended that I go to a service center. However, they called me back within an hour and told me that they realized the problem and asked me to bring in car again. Turns out the mechanic who had worked on my car had a slight oversight the first time but he freely admitted it and fixed the problem any no extra cost. 5 stars for honest service!

Don the car care man is my main mechanic. Things like oil changes may not be the cheapest you can find but I have found them to be honest about problems they find and the prices for repairs have matched or even been cheaper than other places in town. I have an older car and they have been very straight forward about what is worth getting fixed and what I can let be.

Dropped my car off at 730 am to have to have an alignment. They asked when i wanted it back.I told them 2 would be fine. When I went back at 230 they never touched my car . And they never bothered calling. I will never take another vehicle there.

Looking at the reviews, I was a little skeptic taking my car here. However, I was immediately proven wrong. I had a completely severed exhaust pipe, I dropped it off, and within an hour they had it complete, and the labor pricing wasnt bad either! Ill defiantly be back here again!
