First time experiencing racism since moving to the island.I frequent the area and was always interested in going in this beauty supply. Yesterday I drove up and saw a sign on the door that read closed to public but right next to it was a sign with store hours which made it open at that time. With my 1 yr old son on my hip I pushed the door open and walked in. I warmly said hello! 3 Caucasian women turned to look at Me turned and walked away and continued taking amongst themselves. I was so taken back. I didnt know what to do. I glanced at a few shelves then walked out to my car and cried. Was it the braids in my hair? My dark complexion? What caused these women to disregard me so blatantly? Im glad that my baby is not old enough to realize how his mommy was treated for no reason at all. I am not Caucasian. But I am an American a Hispanic American. With the same rights as everyone else. Shame on all of them!
