This is the oldest cafe in town. So itโs already an attraction. The diner is totally quaint and looks like an old movie set. ( remember, the diner in the movie Pulpfiction.) I visited twice so far. The weekend was the busiest. We had to wait 15 minutes outside to get a table. The cappuccino and the macchiato was too good. However, the next day I ordered cafe au lait. It was terribly bad! The sampler breakfast platter is a really good choice, where you get to eat many things. I love e their French toast, which is insanely unhealthy, deep fried stuff with powdered sugar! But all unhealthy goodies taste heavenly ๐คญ๐๐ they have another house speciality- sweet potato pancake. It was also pretty decent. The grits was terrible. The hash rows was pretty mediocre. The biscuit and chicken was great. Overall, nice experience. Elvis Presley used to visit the place !! You should visit too
This dive little diner has been around town a hot minute and if it always had the crew of hustling team players it did when we visited last week it makes sense that theyve lasted as long as they have. The place has humble atmosphere, down to earth causal attire seems to be necessary to enable the crew to keep up w the flow of local and tourist fans it kept a line of out the door but without a serious wait. Antique architecture with traditional diner decor. Its always great to see guests of all income levels welcomed and taken care of like the equals we are. The prices where what I found reasonable and the menu had variety. Toughest call was zeroing in an which entree to choose. Loved all we chose.
The food at The Arcade Restaurant is always great! We go there more often than once a year, but our traditional time is before or after the River Arts Festival in Memphis. Always the best time. They have outside seating, which is great, and as always, the food, the staff and prices are awesome. Definitely try the thin-crust pizza, any one of them. It is some of the best in Memphis. Thanks, Arcade for an always great experience and meal!
Made a stop here because it was recommended when visiting Memphis and was not impressed with the breakfast options we were served. Hash was burnt and ham was extremely over cooked and not edible. Gravy was not flavored and had a very flour like taste. No seasoning and just blah. Shame on you for serving this Arcade. I know this is not the norm - it just cant be. See the pics. Daughters pancakes got it a 1. Please do better.
Pancakes were fine, milkshake was extremely disappointing. Some of the food was inconsistent temperature. The waiter made sure to get our food in quickly and explained menu items thoroughly, but service was pretty slow despite her hustle. The saving grace was the espresso, which was delicious -- if you want to stop in, Id stick to coffee.
I mean you have to give 5 stars just for the experience. Classic diner food done well with great service sitting on prime real estate. Worth a visit if you want to break from your day-to-day life and into a set from back to the future.
STAY AWAY. Save your money and your time. Absolutely horrible. Cannot believe this disgusting slop was the way we had to end our trip. I ordered bacon cheese fries (depicted with real melted cheese) and a biscuit breakfast sandwich. As you can see, what came out was not what was advertised. Cold cheese sauce with undercooked fries. And the sandwich was the size of a slider with an overcooked egg and what seemed like 1/4 slice of cheese. We waited AN HOUR to be seated and then another 40 minutes for our food. If it had been delicious diner food, weโd be delighted. Instead it was the worst meal Iโve ever been served in a restaurant. The staff was lovely. The one redeeming quality, though I feel for them having to serve in this nightmare.Seriously, avoid this place.
Attention!Ignore all the great reviews, I dont know whats wrong with those people.Food - just bad, our order came out an hour after ordering and it was cold. Not only was it cold it was just bad.Cost - ๐ณ over priced garbage food. Really good food could have made it all better.Service - I was told its really busy and thats why it took so long, okay but why is it cold, and it was not busy at all.Cleanliness - I need to wash my shoes. The waitress reduced our bill after I complained to her because I had to go add time to my parking meter after 1.5 hrs.And I was not charged for the milkshake I never received.Dont get sucked in.I do not typically post bad reviews but you earned this one Arcade.
Went there for breakfast. Atmosphere was amazing. Amazing place to get a diner style breakfast. The French toast was obviously handmade and phenomenal. SUPER friendly staff. 100/10 recommend! Keep up the good work. ๐๐ค
Best French Toast weโve ever had. I mean, itโs probably deep fried and tastes like it but who cares? Itโs AMAZING and you should get it.We had to split a Peanut Butter and Banana sandwich before heading to Graceland as well and I have to say... it was fine? Maybe we needed to add the bacon for extra zip but it tasted the same as one youโd make at home. I do appreciate the ability to swap fries for a fruit cup, since weโre eating such heavy stuff this trip.
I visited this place on March 1, 2021 around 930am. My best friend and I wanted some really good breakfast. However we had reservations for the Civil Rights Museum so on our way there we noticed this place right around the corner from our destination there were people outside waiting so we drove pass twice but the aroma kept bringing us back. So we get there and it was a 15 min wait which was fine because we had time to spare. We were called within 10 mins and upon our walk in we notice a old school dinner decor which was very nice. The waiter didnt take long to stop by and greet us. She took our order and was very accommodating our food took maybe 15mins. But when it came it was delicious hot and seasoned just right.I have no complaints about this place
Ordered the famous peanut butter and banana sandwich (a la Elvis) Very disappointed. Too much unappealing peanut butter and very few banana slices Nut well buttered and not properly cooked on the outside. Rather sloppy. Furthermore the waitress forgot to ask me which side I wanted so I got stuck with a large plate of french fries. For FF they were very good, but not what I would have chosen. They really go big on an array of mixed drinks, etc. This is the oldest restaurant in Memphis which I didnt realize until recently, although I spent many of my younger years there. My suggestion is make your won PB and banana sandwich. I will say all the breakfast plates I saw being delivered looked exceptionally good. A very popular place but no trouble getting a seat around noon on a Sunday
Very disappointing. The portion sizes were tiny, and when you add in service fees it was not worth the $40 we spent for two $12 meals. Also the blueberries looked like they had been in the fridge for months and were tiny. The omelet was good, but didnt come with hash browns like most other restaurants. Wont be ordering from here again.
Decided to have breakfast here after we checked out of our hotel since it was so close. Host was full of life and sat us. I was thinking this was going to be a great experience since we had to wait 30 minutes to eat. Our waitress was very bland and didnt seem to want to serve us. She came to take our order after bringing the drinks and we told her we needed a few moments to order. We didnt see her for 10 minutes and had to ask someone else. She then came to take the order. I asked would wheat toast or the TWO biscuits be a better choice for my breakfast sandwich. She said the biscuits were amazing so I went with that. My boyfriend ordered scrambled with cheese eggs and got sunny side up. My meal only came with ONE burnt biscuit. She fixed his eggs but when asked about the additional biscuit she states I know it says two but you only get one. That might have been important from the jump. The hash browns were very bland as well. However, my latte was amazing!
There was a wait, so we chose to sit outside. Our waitress was super helpful. My sister has food allergies, and she was able to answer questions and make suggestions in a friendly manor. We had a very pleasant experience! The food was good too.
Beautiful old restaurant. We had a delicious breakfast here. Staff were very friendly and nice. They were helpful and patient with our little grandson getting him seated and letting him order. They even lent us an umbrella to get out to the car in the unexpected downpour that came along. I just wished I lived closer. Wed be here every week.
Ill come back and try another time another dish, but I was a little let down when I came in today ๐ข asked for crispy bacon, came back warmish and limp. had to ask for eggs fried a little less hard ๐ hash browns were somewhere between burnt and not done ๐ they get 3 of 5 though because the service was on point. and the biscuits and gravy were pretty good ๐๐๐ And the atmosphere was pretty cool.
Southern Hospitality? The servers were not friendly. Did not feel welcome. No one in the restaurant and felt like we were wasting their time. Our food came eventually and that came before the burnt $5 cappuccino. The Continental chicken fingers and biscuits and gravy were better at the La Quinta. The reason for the 2 stars is the history. I think this place is counting on the history to keep customers coming in. The food surely isnt.
When in Memphis you have to eat at The Arcade. The breakfast here is so friggin good, well the breakfast that is. I had an egg white omelette with all the fixings, they prepared it beyond my satisfaction! The biscuits were real, somebodys grandmama must have been in that kitchen whipping up those biscuits! They cooked my hash browns exactly like I them!Next time Im in Memphis, this is my breakfast spot!
First visit, we had a 1pm reservation on a Sunday. French toast was amazing. Server tried her hardest and was best she could be but had way too many tables to care for at once. Food arrived very cold after taking way too long. We asked for it be remade. Came out quickly, hot and delicious. Sweet pot pancakes were also fabulous. Would visit again.
We are here in Memphis visiting for my daughters sweet 16. We rented an Airbnb and decided to get up this morning to get breakfast here. There was a 45 min wait. So we grabbed frozen drinks at Maxโs . Upon entering this place was just what we were looking for for breakfast. Food was timely delivered. When the waiter brought our food she explained โthe biscuits were burnedโ so we probably wouldnโt want them. And asked if we wanted a substitute. We were already hungry so we said we didnโt mind. (First red flag) .... my daughter got her food and there was a hair in her gravy. My second daughter had egg shells in her eggs and pancakes were HARD. We are very disappointed with our service. We will never eat here again. We are now being rushed out because of the health department coming in at 3:30pm... #MEMPHIS so not a good first impression
Food was delicious, the place is always crowded but the service is really good. My sister drinks pineapple juice which they dont have on menu but they make it for her anyway, we really appreciate it
Stopped in for breakfast. Ive never had a bad mimosa and that still stands. Started with the spiked then went regular. Yum! Hubs loved the Bloody Mary. I gag at the thought, but happy that he enjoyed it. ๐คฃ I got the #6 Country ham and he got the Redneck Eggs. Double yum! The wait wasnt bad and the sevice was great! Left with a t-shirt and coffee mug.
We ๐supporting the historic places in all towns...unfortunately the Arcade has defaulted to prioritizing Grub Hub and Door Dash Uber Eats over the customers that are walking thru the actual door and sitting down. We have been sitting for almost an hour after ordering food and waitress saying Im so sorry the kitchen is backed up preparing all the call in services first ๐คจHow about we support those that show up to the restaurant!!!Good news after 58 min wait Food is Still delish!
Ordered the wrong thing. Fried peanut butter banana sandwich. Waitress said was fried in butter like a grilled cheese. Was so nasty that my stomach has been trying to throw it up all day. Its fried in some synthetic fat giving a nasty taste which saturated the entire bread to the inside where the peanut butter is. Looks like it was prepared a week ago. I could get it after a few bites. Waitress couldnt say would you like something else!!! No good. Very unhealthy. Dont order.
There was an outdoor wait on a Monday morning - we were told 15-20 minutes and the actual was 16 minutes. We sat down in the worn booths and we ordered the Breakfast Sampler split for the two of us. It was very busy and the food took 25 minutes. When the food came we were pleased to see everything had been split into 2 plates. Everything just tasted better than what I have come to expect from this type of food that looks nearly identical. Everything on the plate was great and the split plate was still more than enough food. FYI: the French toast is more of a crispy funnel cake flavor and a nice surprise. This place is on my good list.
Always good. Having breakfast with an old friend. Ladies at the table next to us asked what we recommended. Suggested the sweet potato pancakes. They were pleased with their choice.
Had the peanut butter and banana with bacon sandwich and it was super tasty. Breakfast fit for the king.
I had the breakfast sampler and it was out of this world. The food is amazing and cheap for the portions you get and the staff is easy going and very friendly and welcoming. Ill definitely be headed back as soon as possible!
My husband and I love a good diner! So this was really cute. Theyโve been open for over 100 years. Looks like they have a lot of original stuff in there (booths and counters). The food was okay. We got the French toast., but we werenโt expecting it to be fried. So a little crunchier for our tastes but it was still good. They were busy, so our waitress wasnโt super attentive. We had to stand up and put our masks on for her to realize we were ready for our check. Other than that, everything was good!
Historically cool old place. It stop right there. We waited an hour for a sandwich and a burger. The waitress never checked on us once and the food was somehow not hot when it came to the table? Dirty. The ladies was gross when I got there and even worse an hour later. You can come take pictures outside and keep on going
Nice vintage cafe. We unknowingly sat in Elviss booth! It took us a minute to realize. Had a good breakfast...the French Toast. Really friendly staff here, and that dont brush you off. Theyll engage in conversation, time permitting.
Getting past the history of the place, its just your typical small dinner. Food wasnt bad but wasnt anything special. Still looks and feels like a classic dinner which added some nostalgia to the ambiance. Staff was nice and service was reasonable. Wouldnt go out of my way to go again but glad I came once.
Seems to have lost its Lustre. I found the food was rather mediocre and during a lunch hour when it wasnt overly busy it took 45 minutes to get a sandwich. Waitress seemed more interest in chatting with her coworkers than servicing customers. Actually watched her for 15 minutes just chatting up while I was waiting for my ticket so I could pay and leave. Lunch hour was 1.5 hours that day.
Great breakfast in a significantly historic location. Established in 1019 with historic mid century modern furnishings. Service and food is spectacular. Expect to spend $15 per person for a filling breakfast. Fun way to start the day. Many significant folks ate here, even Elvis. Read about the interesting history and people who have eaten here on the menu.
Nice diner type restaurant. Serves breakfast and lunch.
Book a table on line the day before if you can. Im not sure if helps or not, but try.We got our name on the list at 10:15am.Got our text to sit at 11am.We got waited on at 11:20am.Our food took an hour to come to the table. We ordered sweet potato pancakes and the breakfast sandwich. It was nothing special. The staff works their butts off to take care of us patrons.Pack your patience and dont have a high expectation for the food.
This place is so overrated... Its plenty more places way better
Great environment, great customer service. Hailey was a great waitress and I forgot the young lady at the front counter but she was very polite as well. I love the contact less pay. The bar scan is the best thing to me. My food was so fresh and everything was very delicious ๐. Between the number 1 and 5 those are my favorite so far. I love the spunky colors reminds me of back in day how diners use to be with a warm friendly environment. My husband and I come here every chance we get. We love the arcade.
I would agree that the atmosphere makes this place amazing. One of those places that is a must do when you visit Memphis. The food was fair. The chocolate gravy was good, according to me, the rest of the family did not like it. Friendly service. There are multiple individual restrooms
Lets be real, youre here for the atmosphere and historical significance. Do not expect good food, expect diner food. The staff was very friendly, it was pretty clean inside. But lets talk about the food. I ordered a sandwich called The Memphian. It promised me smoked turkey, brie cheese, peppers, and mustard. What I got was a store-bought roll, with one single slice of store-bought smoked turkey, jarred peppers (not even grilled), and stone-ground mustard. I could not taste brie whatsoever, and after inspecting, found that there wasnt any. Disappointing. My co-worked got the taco salad...Im just gonna say that you dont serve a taco salad with spinach and raw purple onion.Honestly it just felt like this was the place you got a summer job at, and the cultural significance of the place is carrying it through tourist seasons.Memphis the city is way better than the sandwich Arcade named after it.
I waited 25 minutes for a turkey, egg, and cheese biscuit after placing an online order. My food was cold and the biscuit was dry.I gave 2 stars because there is an interesting variety of breakfast menu items. This was first time eating here so I wont write it completely off this time. I was in a hurry and ordered the biscuit because I thought it would be quick.
Delicious brunch food! Will definitely revisit when I come back to Memphis.
Amazing fresh food. You need to try the breakfastpizza. All the vegetables are locally sourced. Unique history.
Shhhh...A hidden Memphis treat. I suggest the GREAT Breakfast Pizza! Bacon, sausage, eggs, tomatoes, peppers, cheese and add more if you like such as jalapenos.Yummy good. Polite service is good too. The short wait is worth it.
Good old fashioned breakfast options for about $10 had eggs grits french toast bacon. French toast was great (although had a light touch of grease from chicken fryer flavor) servers are very nice. This is not fast food Sun AM busy!Established in 1919.I was exploring the S Main area and found it on the corner.
The french toast is a unique twist on french toast and was really good. Seems very popular. We went expecting to have a long wait and waited about an hour. Definitely worth it though. Just plan ahead to make sure you give yourself enough time to wait for seating.
We had a great breakfast here. Classic diner food in a classic diner setting. As is typical for such locales, service was a little slow because it was quite busy but that was very understandable. The food portions were large for the price and were excellent. A particular standout was the French toast, done the Arcade way, meaning deep-fried - it was divine! Definitely understandable how they can be celebrating their 100th anniversary this year as Memphis oldest cafe.
This place is so good with french toast,I love bread if its fixed the way I like it, they have good food, and I can get breakfast there anytime of the day
Even though Im a native Memphian, this was my first visit (gasp, lol). The food was delicious and service was quick and friendly. I ordered the Sunriser with grits and fruit. My friend ordered the Country Fried Steak with eggs and potatoes. Yummy! We enjoyed the sidewalk patio. Of course, Elvis was in the house; its Elvis week!
Charming old school diner with modern food! Even in Covid times we felt safe and got to enjoy the great atmosphere of this classic diner. Loved my pancake special, great food. Only one star of for being a bit pricey. Worth checking out!
Great food, atmosphere, and history. Be sure to check it out
Super cool space and the food was good great. Country fried steak was tender. turkey and brie sandwich was delicious. The only sticking point was that the French toast was deep fried, but it was still good!
The only redeeming qualities of this place were the staff and the bathrooms. The chicken tenders were only slightly better than ones you would get at a fast food place. The side salad was basically 8 leaves of spinach with some shredded cheese on top. Canโt believe we waited 45 minutes to get in and then another 45 for something you could get at a school cafeteria. Donโt waste your time or money.
A true taste of Memphis hospitality. Enjoyed the history and the great food there.
If you know anything about me, you know that there is no bigger Elvis fan. Thatโs why today, along with the world, I mourn the loss of the only true musician. Here for too short of a time, gone for much too long.I took a trip to Memphis, to visit the home of the King. I had the privilege of staying on Graceland property, visiting Graceland multiple times, praying at his gravesite, and of course, visiting his landmarks throughout the city.Once such landmark was the Arcade Restaurant. There is one specific booth, decked out in all things about the King, where rumor has it, the King himself would sit at. I came inside, sat at the counter, and waited for my booth to open up. Now rumor has it, Elvis was a regular. Whether or not he was, thereโs definitely something beautiful about this restaurant.Located in the heart of Memphis, walkable distance from the Lorraine Motel and the Peabody Hotel, the Arcade restaurant is a corner hot spot on a quiet street. We had the restaurant to ourselves once we settled into our Elvis booth.I, of course, ordered the Elvis special- a friend PB and banana sandwich. Canโt say the King and I share taste buds, but it was amazing sharing that meal, in the same walls the King enjoyed it.๐ถ And I love you soThat people ask me howHow Ive lived til nowI tell them I dont know ๐ถWant more reviews? Long wait (busy Sunday morning), pretty slow service, but the best strawberry cake in the entire world! Plan ahead. Well worth the wait!!
