I stopped here after a hike to grab a breakfast sandwich after hearing great things. I placed the order online and it was ready in 5 minutes! I got a ham, egg and cheese and it came with hash browns. There was so much food! Overall it was good, the potatoes crispy, and the sandwich not greasy. I would recommend a stop in!
Great breakfast spot. Probably needs more parking but when you got it you got it lol. Waitress was great and was pretty timeless too.
Always love coming here. only complaint is it almost alwayd packed! not really anyones fault though but us customers. its just that good
Athena our waitress was absolutely phenomenal from beginning to end very courteous everything was great including even bringing over some extra napkins without even asking for him phenomenal service thank you so much and of course the food was absolutely delicious perfection!
Excelente place for breakfeast. They usually move very quickly with the orders and estimated waiting time 2 min. Menu is clear and affordable. The decor as unique. Books everywhere. 🍁 I dont give this place a 5 stars, because the layout of the tables we very close and Its difficult to have a conversation. 🍁 The live music piano is great and make this place special. The staff is very friendly, the area where the meals are made is relatively open. I definitely recommend this place. 🍁
Love the expanded location. Friendly staff, quick service, good food.
Food wasnt that good, and the server was slow, and didnt take care of us like they should... Also prices werent right. Too expensive for absolutely no reason...
EXCELLENT FOOD!! GREAT STAFF! Friendly knowledgeable waitstaff. Warm atmosphere. Our waitress came by no less than 3x firing the course of our meal to inquire about ANY of our needs.. top off our coffee, make sure we were enjoying our meals etc etc. Not overwhelming, not constantly bugging us to order
We ordered two Hungry man specials .It includes eggs toasts Ham Sausage bacon .We get our two orders with only bacon eggs & toast missing the ham and sausage I brought it up to the waitress she cam and looked and said yes your missing the rest. Then waitress comes and stated they need two slices of bacon from both of our orders. No gloves etc we each handed them and placed on a plate as they were gonna reserve them to another guest we are in a pandemic unbelievable!
Very good food. Decent prices. Gets busy on the weekends
Amazing ServiceFood was fast and deliciousDefinitely recommend the Encyclopedia Meal
Fast service, good amount of delicious food, and good pricings
Excellent service. Food was incredible. They accommodated 26 of us. It was fantastic!!!!
Great home style meals.
Virtually none of the of the staff members were wearing their masks properly. They all either had them under their nose or pulled down to their chin. This included most of the waitstaff and the entire kitchen. Additionally, the waitress was very rude. At one point she took my debit card off of the table before I had told her I was ready to pay and walked away with the card without saying anything. I was very unhappy with my service and did not feel welcome or comfortable
I ordered take out. Food is always great but we didnt eat inside because there was no distancing and no barriers between the booths. I thought that the March 19th lifting of the capacity limits stated that distancing still had to be maintained.
Good food and service, breakfast and lunch
Excellent breakfast and lunch menu 😋 on Saturday or Sunday you may even have a treat of the Piano Man playing your favorite songs 🥰🥞🧆🍔🥞🍳
Food was great and so was the waitress. Very clean and comfortable place 👌
The food was bland. Homefries tasted like just plain boiled potatoes. English muffin was soggy. & the cooking staff either doesnt wear masks at all of wear it around their chin. The 2 stars is for the awesome piano man. 0 stars for the food.
My favorite breakfast spot! Nice portion sizes. Food is great
Great atmosphere, great menu, great prices..I tell everyone about this place.
First time since they moved into their new building. Absolutely Beautiful, clean spacious! Staff is top-notch. Amazing breakfast😋 must try!!!
Everything from the service to the piano player to the food everything Amazing
Its just PERFECT❤️❤️
90 percent of the workers from the, host the servers, line cooks and bussers wear their mask below their nose. Some don’t care, but for those who do I hope this is helpful to know before entering the establishment
Outstanding venue. Great food, great service, open feeling, sunny... but cozy, too! Delicious pastries available, too.
Food was ok service was good.
Good food.
Crowded but quick service
Great food, nice place to eat and drink, friendly service.
Absolutely the worst service Ive ever had!!!!! No greeting or smiles. The waitresses acted like they had better places to be. Rolling their eyes when we had to flag them down for something. Food was quick and good but it took almost 20 minutes to order and we had to flag someone down just to order!!!! This is not a one time thing either. The last 5 times have been just as bad. I only go there because my coworkers want to go there. When paying at the register she did not say one word. We were asking a question and she completely ignored us. I even said gee thanks for the answer, but youre too busy. She did not hear one word I said. I really dont know how this place has all these good reviews.
LOVED it, fantastic breakfast and service and yhe piano player was great. Also, ao so clean
Nice and clean, polite staff and great service. Food is a bit bland and coffee is weak.
Delicious burger. Excellent service. They were closing up and didnt rush us one bit. Even refilled our coffee.
Everything that I have ordered from Huxleys has always been great. They are following all requirements to keep everyone safe thru this pandemic. Thank you & keep up the good work!!
Must have been an off day. Home fries were burned, sausage over cooked, ordered 3 eggs got two, first two over cooked third one was good, toast was under toasted. I will stick with Alan’s cup and saucer. Huxleys was always good in the past, something changed.Tim
Great place to eat. Dont see where all the negative comments on here come from. First time going to this place. Entering the restaurant I was quickly greeted and seated at my table. Place is very clean. Waitress quickly brought us coffee and very friendly. After ordering out food she quickly brought us the food within 10 minutes if not less. A lot faster than Im used to at other places. Food was great. Recommend this place highly. Will return
Had breakfast with friends at Huxleys this morning. The food was exceptional, all around, the presentation fine. The wait staff was very pleasant, accessible, and coffee was refilled spontaneously. This new restaurant is spacious, lots of light through the many windows, the plan well-thought out. On weekends meals are accompanied by a fine, soft, jovial pianist. Whoever planned the restaurant, thought of everything. Very impressive with service, the food preparation, the portions, and the friendliness. Exceptional.
If you are familiar with their old facility, you will see its a lot larger, it has a fireplace in the center about 4 away from the piano. Service was good a great choice in the menu. Its too bad they dont serve dinner. They are only open for breakfast and lunch
Excellent Excellent food!!!! They need to come around more to fill your coffee ☕ up they gave me 1 cup And that was it
The food and service is great!
Food was delicious. I ordered a bacon, ham, egg, and cheese burrito, and 2 eggs overeasy with toast and corned beef. My burrito was not a regular flour burrito it had a slight red hint to it, my wife told me its a tomato flavored burrito. I took one bite and knew something was different, the tomato burrito actually was awesome a dash of flavor I was not expecting. Delicious ! My wife was happy with her eggs, and corned beef, everything was cooked to perfection. I paid $24 for a bacon, egg ham and cheese burrito, corned beef served with 2 overeasy eggs for my wife . Everyone was happy . The cost seems kind of high but everything was done to perfection, so I did feel the price was worth it. Great place to eat!
Our favorite Sunday breakfast place. Good portions, very tasty and Amy is the best waitress in the world. They always have a full parking lot. Sunday morning piano player is awesome. Without asking he knows our favorite tunes and makes sure to work them into the playlist.
Food was good, prices good and so clean!! Well decorated and nice atmosphere. Social distancing is in place which is very important right now.
Excellent food and service
Delicious food, friendly, on point with the safety aspect in the restaurant..A+..
Good food. Breakfast is a must. Waitresses very friendly.
My favorite place. I liked the design because I so love books. The service Osgood and people are very welcoming. The food tastes good also and is at an affordable price.
Wait was short, service was very good, the piano player was a pleasant surprise on a Saturday morning. Breakfast food could have been better, Jimmy Dean sausage links? The bacon was tasteless for some reason, The coffee was lousy, weak, no blue sugars, equal? I have all 3 in my house for guests. The coffee really kills the rating above.
Excellent food! Service is friendly and professional. Theyre in a brand new building across the street from their original location! You certainly enjoy a great meal! I highly recommend it, something for everyone.
The food is just great. This is my favorite place to eat. Next time I go Im getting their pancakes. Those things look good and they are huge.
Very clean, great food, service
Great new location, A+ food and service
Food is very very good good size portions at cetera just a little pricey for what it is
Exceptional treatment. Clean and great social distancing.
1st time at the new location which is larger and quite nice. They were very busy, but service was friendly as always, if a little slow. The Texas french toast is a favorite of mine. They also have optional REAL maple syrup which I love. Eggs over medium are always cooked properly, as is the bacon. Wouldve been 5 stars but my food was barely warm. Butter wouldnt melt on the french toast. Well see the next time. Hope they havent become too big.
Great spot for lunch or breakfast after a nice hike!
Have been a fan of Huxleys for almost 25 years. Good food (especially the fresh Belgian Waffles), great service and family environment. Cant wait to see them in their new place in a few short weeks!Update 05/2019: the new place is on point and great. What an upgrade, truly a must see!
Its ok.
Had the pleasure of eating here with my boyfriend today. My first time and there was live music on piano and the food was amazing. Customer Services amazing and every employee was on point. It was definitely a busy morning seating was limited but the staff worked fast and smooth to keep the morning going easy. I will most definitely be returning😍
(Update: old place looked shabby, because they are building a new one! Just moving across the street, Im excited to see the new place when its finished!) Great food, reasonable prices, hot coffee, and good personality. Could use a coat of paint inside, but I dont mind that they seem to put their money into keeping prices low and food quality high. :)
Phenomenal! Well spaced out seating and great food and coffee!
Very nice and big. Looks like a brand new building. No complaints about my breakfast - Texas french toast with blueberries, strawberries, and bananas.Large Saturday morning breakfast crowd. Parking lot spaces are very tight so think twice about bringing a car that you don’t want to risk getting door dinged.
Food was mediocre, service was poor, prices were very much on the higher end of the spectrum for the type of dining. We had visited the old location many times and the food was always pretty good and service was as well even when it was busy. French toast was cold and seemed like it was previously made and just tossed on the grill to warm it up. Butter was frozen, home fries very bland and had lots of black burnt chunks. I very rarely add salt or pepper but the home fries were so flavorless I had to since out server basically dropped our food and disappeared until it was time to drop the bill. Could have used some hot sauce for me home fries and eggs, would have loved some jelly for my cold toast with unmelted butter. The sausage tasted like re-microwaved microwave sausage. The bacon was good though. So $40 for 2 people for breakfast with drinks, for about $25-$30 we could have drove a couple minutes to dads or ricks on 5 and got similar meals but far better food and far better service. Its too bad because this place is only a mile or so from home. Sad to see its not nearly what it was in the old location.
Excellent service and food. Love the live piano. He is amazingly talented!
Great food and friendly staff. Weekend piano player is a nice touch.
Interesting twist on a diner. Decent coffee, good food. The bagel and lox was loaded with lox and veggies. Friendly staff. Huge menu with lots of interesting choices.
Disappointing. Desperate to have customers but once you get there, be prepared to wait. We sat outside in the parking lot at a plastic picnic table. Waited 1/2 an hour for cappuccinos and then waitress says they couldn’t get the machine to steam the milk. Omg.Then we ordered specific omelets but waitress did not translate our requests (like no brown omelet). I ordered sliced tomatoes instead of potatoes and got hard, white and unripened tomatoes on the plate. I sent them back to the chef and asked for a side of salsa which smelled and tasted like plastic. They forgot to deliver our side of bacon and we couldn’t get the waitress’ attention to tell her until after the meal was over. I’m not paying $40 for breakfast for two for that kind of lousy service and substandard food in Meriden ever again. No thanks. You can change the place and move to a new building, but the same people are running this sloppy place.
Absolutely the best staff around. Extremely attentive. The food is terrific, which is why the place is so busy. Worth the wait.
The food was good. Service a tad slow and it was too busy with the new place it lost the charm of the old place. Kinda felt like a big cafeteria
The new location is great. Good food. Quick service.
Clean cordial staff. My wrap was delicious
Came here to eat around noon on a Monday. Place was packed and not enough staff to accommodate.Waited 10 minutes to have our order taken at our table.Waited 25 minutes for food (two sandwiches)Had to pack everything to go because we ran out of time.$11 each for below average (dry chicken, unripe avocado) sandwiches, come with chips - upcharge for fries, salad, etc.New space looks nice, but there are many new and classic options in the area offering much better food and service.
Quaint little diner with a little something extra, a Piano Man who play as Pop and holiday favorites while you dine. They have a truncated menu that makes it easy to find something youd like. Hometown atmosphere and just plain good food.
Our food came fast. & it was good. The waitress kept calling me & my Boyfriend babe. Kinda weird...
Very please to come back after the move
A great little breakfast / lunch place. Even when the place is busy, the staff manages to keep up with the pace. Food arrives fast and to order. Theyll offer to refill your coffee several times. Set up like a mini library so there is always something new to read on your visit. On Sundays they have someone playing the piano. Cozy little place
Food is always great. Staff are really nice. Good Environment. Highly recommend.
Huxleys is always a great stop for breakfast! Great food and great staff! The staff is so friendly and you get a lot of food for your money. Its quaint and cozy inside and an all around good experience.
Awesomeness with live music
Same great Huxley breakfast, but even better atmosphere! They also have a piano player every Saturday and Sunday.🎶🎶🎶🎹🎹🎹
The breakfast is amazing
We visited this lovely coffee shop on a family trip. I think a local recommended it. Tons of book-loving atmosphere, nice service, good quality -- a great place to hang out and gab.
I always enjoy lunch at Huxleys. Food is good and service is friendly.
Recently went in for lunch with a friend. We were promptly seated during the end of a lunch rush and our drinks were brought out quickly. Food was good as it is most of the time. However, this visit gets a two because of service. We asked for extra pickles and our waitress brought out two extra. Pickles cut on a plate. This is not the first time i have had this done. However this time i was charged 4.55 extra for the pickles. I inquired why this was the case. I was told that i asked for a side of pickles. While i can understand that, i was never informed this would be extra. When i asked for an explanation.. I was told that i should have known. Both hostess and waitress were not very understanding to my point. While i have no issues paying for extras..i find the attitude as well as the charge unnecessary. This is why i didnt tip. Personally i feel the staff and management have to try to see a customers perspective. In this they failed. So from here on in.. If i go in, unless i get true service.. Tip will reflect.. Closer to 5 or 10 percent instead of 20 to 25.Work with a customer, dont alienate us.
Great place to go for breakfast! Its not your modern restaurant. But it has its historic feel to it. and I believe thats what makes it so Homie Every time I go, theres a person lightly playing the piano in the middle of the room. Gives your time there a relaxing feeling.
We had take out lunch from here. They were crazy busy, everyone was so efficient it was running like a well oiled machine.Oh boy, the lunch was great. I highly recommend the CB Rueben..
It was good. If it werent for the long wait it would be 5 Stars for sure
Love the new place. Clean and modern. Really good food!
Lets just start in saying that the food is very good and the service is as well. Both my wife and I havent been here for breakfast in a few years and found the prices have jumped up. I had 2 eggs over easy, home fries, coffee, orange juice and one blueberry pancake the size of a dinner plate. The pancake alone was 7.00.My wife had 2 French toast 2 bacon and coffee. Our bill was over $27.00 + the tip. Not sure if I would go back for breakfast with those prices. The are open for breakfast and lunch and then they close for the day.Not much has changed inside and they really need to do a update, the benchsfor the booths are all worn. The place is pretty full on the weekends because the food is that good.. lower the prices and they would have people waiting to get in.
This place is like a mini NY-style deli along a highway in Meriden. Service is remarkably fast and friendly and the food is always creative and fresh. One thing I cant figure out: In the dining area near the front entrance, there is a bookshelf running along the entire interior perimeter. It is far up against the ceiling, and with no ladder in sight. I wonder if diners are allowed to take-one leave-one during their visit.
I love the tuna melt here. The staff is very welcoming and friendly. I go often over my 1 hour lunch break and service is always quick enough that I get back with time to spare :) A co worker swears by the Monte crust so that is also a big hit (I am hooked on my tuna melt though lol)
