Great variety of food! The omelet and sweet potato fries were excellent, and the chocolate chip pancakes were good too. The service is always great here. I will say that the strawberries are not fresh but frozen and the cappuccino did burn my tongue, so just keep that in mind. Overall a great restaurant!
We were in Middletown, CT., a few days ago and thought we’d catch a bite at the Athenian II Diner Restaurant. Even though they offer a great selection of Greek, Italian and American dishes, we opted for breakfast which is served at anytime during the day.We enjoyed a hearty, homestyle meal that hit the spot from start to finish! Expect generous portions, decent prices and fantastic service.Our Server, Rosana, was warm, friendly and very welcoming. —She made us feel right at home which was truly appreciated after a long day on the road. As a service professional, she made sure that our dining experience was a good one; and we appreciated that as well.As an aside in this review, I’d also like to mention that the restaurant has a nice, relaxed vibe. …And it was really nice to see, who we learned, is the restaurant owner, John Daoutis, taking time up front to greet new customers and their regular guest. With this kind of devotion, it’s no wonder that this family owned business is nearing 30 years of providing great food and service!Yes, we definitely recommend the Athenian II and plan to visit again when we’re in the area.PS. Slices of Strawberry and Raspberry Cheesecakes To-Go was excellent too!
Went here for the first time Friday 8/13. We loved it. The entire place is very shiny and just spotless. Our waitress was welcoming and helpful. My husband had a triple deck club sandwich which he loved. I went for the Greek wrap. I would like another right now. It will be our go to spot whenever we are in the area
Pancakes taste like batter, eggs werent cooked to order. Toast was barely done.... its breakfast easiest meal to prepare for someone

At this point I have called 44 times and I’ve gotten a busy signal. The food is pretty good. However, they need to upgrade their phone system from ancient times to current times. This is not the first time it has happened. It is ridiculous. The busy signal 44 times in 15 minutes. Oh and mind you, when I called the man at the front said “I’m really busy can you call back“ is that a joke.
A very nice dinner, restaurant. We where seated quickly and the food was served with in 15 mins of our order. Everything was hot and fresh. We had the breakfast menu, next time will definitely arrive in time for the dinner menu fare.
Outstanding! Clean, friendly wait staff and although Ive never met the cooks theyre outstanding too! Food choices to cover even the pickiest of diners to wonderful and authentic Greek dishes! You will leave satisfied and probably have enough leftover for second meal! OPA!!

And plus, their stuffed clams are the best Ive ever tasted... in the world!Well, one thing is for sure - I dont know their recipe..but all I know is that their main ingredient is love! Im so delighted to hear that they are open for take-out and dine-in. I would rate 10 stars if I had the option to do that. I cant express this enough, I love this place so much!!!! Very speedy service. Our server was very friendly and efficient. Food was very tasty.
It was all about the waitress who was bubbly and attentive but also about the bus boy handing out water but it also was about the really expansive but not expensive menu. The place was packed for a reason and anyone could see it was exquisitely well run. The florentine omelet and coffee with extra mushrooms was enough for the entire day. My sister was also just as happy with her specifically made omelet.
We had an awesome breakfast. Food was delicious, service was excellent and the facility was very clean.

Recently visited from out of state to reunite and connect with our Connecticut family members. Food and drinks were delish! Rosana was beyond the best waitress you could ask for! Her warm and funny personality added to our wonderful family breakfast outing. She felt like family of our own. Thank you Rosana for brightening our morning and for the many laughs!
Always a great local spot for breakfast or something heavier. A good friend of mine lives nearby so I’m here every couple of months. The diner has plenty of breakfast options, mimosas, and practically everything else under the sun that you could expect a diner to have. Be wary as it can be quite crowded on weekend mornings and the parking lot can fill up rather quickly as well. I have a feeling I will be back

Service was exceptionally fast and staff was professional and courteous. We, a party of 6, ate there 2 consecutive days for breakfast and a waitress who didnt wait on us remembered us. Food came out fast, hot and as we ordered it. Good eats.
This is one of the nicest and cleanest diners ever. They are very polite, seat you quickly and are Covid-19 compliant. The menu offers a great assortment of food items. The always serve fresh and have quick service. From the manager to the wait staff are friendly and accommodating. Thank you for the top notch service.

Waiter was friendly and fun. Had the ziti w/ meatballs. There w/ my wife and one of my sister-in-laws. We sat there for little while after we got done with dinner. They did not rush us.

One great thing about the Athenian Diner II is the cleanliness - you can tell they are taking the pandemic protection for their customers and themselves seriously. The restaurant was so clean it sparkled!!! I had breakfast on this recent visit and so did my dining partner. We both enjoyed scrambled eggs - nice and fluffy. Home fries, a side of kielbasa - both were very nicely done - and some toast. Our waitress was very attentive and made sure our orders were to our liking & our coffee cups were always full!!! In the end - although we tried - we couldn’t resist taking two of their luscious deserts to go for later - something this diner has always been known for!

Ive been working the graveyard shift most of the year. I love picking up takeout from this diner when I get out at 5-6 in the morning. I love breakfast food as much as the next person, but you can get burned out. The staff is super friendly and you can order off the lunch menu any time. Their curly fries are amazing! Its really a life-saver for this night-crawler who cant cook!

Usually the food god but yesterday for dinner the hash browns and corn beef hash was the leftover from the morning and burnt. Ordred eggs over easy and came out well done.
Very good for a dinner. you can tell that they have people who go there regularly and are greeted like family. The staff is very friendly and the food is tasty. It is an especially good place for a quick meal as their service is quick and accurate.

This is my go-to diner for all of CT. They are open 24/7 and serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner at all times as far as I have experienced. Not just that, but their portion size is huge, prices extremely affordable, and total time from order to being ready is superb. The food is also quite good for what you would consider to be simple diner fare.My one gripe is the ‘tude that you can get from some of the staff. All diners I expect to have some attitude, some culture, that defines them. This one is no different and they do know my face and preferences, but sometimes they communicate a little too flippantly and that is not something I enjoy, but it is quintessentially diner, so I still highly recommend them. Just realize my five star experience is a little different and more demanding than what I see and expect with four stars. Four stars is you do almost everything right for your domain, but five is above and beyond that. I have to be blown away for a five star experience and while they hit the right marks in many respects for a diner, there is at least one area in need of improvement.

I’m a REAL REVIEW I actually am someone who grew up going to this dinner with my grandfather who is a white male this dinner is all for the elderly crowd they don’t really care for youngers every time we went they treated me for the most part very respectful. My grandfather recently passed away and I’m a young women of color who was raised to respect EVERYONE I placed an order over the phone at 1:30 and the women at the front desk had informed me after waiting until 2:00 that they had gave my order to someone else I continued waiting until 2:20 for my food I obviously was upset from waiting because they gave my food to someone by accident but the owner at the front with the blonde hair was extremely sarcastic and offered to give my money back after waiting that entire time INSTEAD of being professional and apologizing she be littled me and made me feel as my money wasn’t wanted at the place of business I will NOT be going back and I advise you guys to go to the Cromwell dinner

This has always been one of my favorite places to get dinner and, during the pandemic, we were getting curbside which was wonderful. Tonight, I called, and tried to place a curbside order and was told that they dont do curbside. I indicated that I had been getting curbside there for some time and then the person hung up on me. So, I called back and asked again if I could order and get curbside pickup. The woman said no and that I would have to come inside. It is a shame that as COVID cases are rising, this restaurant is requiring you to go inside. I sure hope management sees this and allows for curbside take out again.

Easy to find place, nice service, the food is ok, nothing outstanding. My hot turkey dinner had bland tasting gravy with overcooked veggies & meat wasnt that flavorful. Have been a patron of the Athenian ll for years. Terrific food and staff. Decent prices and excellent portions. If you ever leave this restaurant hungry, its your own fault.
