So every experience I have had with U-Haul nationwide has been terrible. I have gone out of my way to avoid the company. I needed to get a van to move something quickly and this U-Haul location was my best option. I finally experienced my first GREAT U-Haul experience. The man who helped me was calm, polite, and very helpful (that alone is a unique experience for me). The van was clean and everything worked out just as expected.The only thing that was challenging was the parking lot. It was hard to figure out where to park your own car when arriving and when returning after hours I had to do some mental gymnastics to figure out where to park the van again.I would rent there again!

This U-Haul location (2020 state st.) was excellent and very clean! I would highly recommend renting from them out of anywhere else we tried to rent from in Milwaukee. Our CSR was Mrs. Lynette and she was very professional and met all of our needs. She was nice and welcoming. Thanks for such a great experience!!!!

Registered a 15 truck, arrived half hour early on Saturday for a noon pickup. Chris was there and he seemed professional unlike some reviews I have seen.Tank was full, cab was fine, and the back was empty (also unlike other reviews I have seen)I registered for a one-way and dropped off without issue at the destination.

Make sure to check your credit card statement after! They tried to scam me out of $70 by not checking the trailer into their system until the day after I returned it.Rented a simple car trailer for 2.5 hours. Renturned it before the business closed and the staff unhooked the trailer. They didnt check the trailer in with their system till the following night charging me an additional $70 with zero warning or aknowledgement via email, call or in person. Only reason I notice was I happen to check my card statement for another reason. Shady business which scams their customers

I walked into the State St location to rent a truck. Upon renting the vehicle I didn’t realize that UHAUL DOES NOT RENT DAMAGED VEHICLES allegedly. The vehicle I was provided was damaged upon pickup. When I returned the vehicle in a couple hours, I was held liable for someone else’s damage. No one will even call you! They just place an unauthorized (deductible) charge on your account. I tried calling and this location WILL NOT ANSWER THE PHONE! They allow their calls to reroute to their call center which is helpless in direct matters. Upon arriving at the store no one wants to take ownership and deal with issues. You wait around on staff who say they are attending to other matters. I was told by staff that the surveillance video would be reviewed. This was to pacify my complaints. Whoever their insurance company is has not contacted me til date. It’s a one and done matter where it’s automatically assumed that you damaged a vehicle/property. If you have to choose this location read your contract thoroughly, request a staff member to inspect the vehicle with you, always purchase protection insurance (which still has a co pay).Most importantly DO NOT USE THIS LOCATION IF YOU CAN AVOID IT‼️

They do not answer their own store phone. All calls go to the national call center. Thus they may or may not have the vehicle ready to rent that you reserved. You can arrive at the store and find that the vehicle is not available. Customer Service is poor. BEWARE. Vehicles are damaged. You could be held liable for someone elses damage. Rude Staff. Must prepay for all rentals. No Cash Accepted. Credit card only.

Me and my husband moved here from out of state. We rented our truck for the flat rate 1 way fee. We paid 601 for our truck including safe movers insurance and environmental fees and truck tax. We were scheduled to return our truck on May 19th at 10:00am to 2020 state street in downtown Milwaukee WI. We turned it in free which is the uhaul promise. The same day I got a call from uhaul telling us we owed 227.88 from the uhaul location at 2020 West state street. I contacted the Phoenix Arizona corporate headquarters to inquire about this and was informed that U-Haul franchise guy Christopher Marshel illegally modified my contract to allot extra days so that he could collect on those days. But uhauls own policy is that there is no extra charge for a flat rate 1 way nor for sakes tax for storing a truck. We spoke to Corporate Headquarters Manager over sales and reservations and shesassisting us with getting into contact with the corporate Executive marketing president to over turn these illegal charges. We are seeking to have him stripped of his franchise for committing petty larceny and fraud using U-Hauls good name and reputation.

Wait time is ridiculous! Waited in line for over 15 minutes, told worker need propane refilled, told to go outside and someone will be out. Waited for over 25 minutes, no one came. Went and told another worker, waiting to get propane refilled, he stated “I’m busy” sounding annoyed and walked away! Worst customer service here!

A few months ago I rented a truck so that I could move. Prior to pulling off the lot I noticed one of the yellow stickers on top were down. Later I found out they were clearance markers. I never went under any clearances and there are none in the proximity. I was charged over $100 for this. Once I reported it to the manager Chris, he was argumentative and disrespectful. He even went as far as calling me a liar. He said he would refund the money for the clearance, but I never received it back, nor received any follow up. Do not go to this location.

Horrible experience. They hadnt cleaned or checked the truck when I picked it up. It had trash in it, the tires needed air, there was ice on the floor of the truck that you couldnt see & I fell because no one warned me. They didnt give me the dollies that I had already paid for & I had to call three times before they would credit me. Their solution to my fall was to provide me the phone number of their insurance company Wasted time & money & they wouldnt budge on any compensation for the poor experience. They changed my drop off location after I booked & didnt notify me.

Worst customer experience I’ve ever had. We had reservation for a truck and they said they didn’t have any even though they had 4 trucks outside. Manager just yelled at us and said it wasn’t his problem. Don’t go to this location, very poorly managed.

Scheduled a hitch installation 5 weeks ago. Showed up to appointment without a phone call telling us the parts werent in. Rescheduled for a couple weeks later. No call from anyone regarding if our parts were in. Called the State St. number which shot me to a u-haul call center. 20 minutes of hold and we were told a note had been left for the State St. location regarding our account/parts and we should receive a call from them the next morning. No call the next morning, or the next day. Call back,. wait on hold 20 minutes, tentatively schedule a date for right before our vacation in-case the parts come in. Called yesterday to confirm parts were in, waiting on hold 20 minutes, parts have been received. Get there at 7 am as scheduled to be told the hitch guy isnt in until 9.Either this location has no one in charge or the management is what we refer to as gar-bage.

The young man made a nice effort to accommodate my needs closer to my moving location although the 4 x 8 was not available at this location (I walked in without reservation so my bad) Did have a reservation at 160 Layton and 4 x 8 was ready and trailer worked nicely.....safely. The young man at the Layton location was also very accommodating and helpful in hooking up the trailer I had reserved. This was my second move with U-Haul. I am quite satisfied with the service.

Unnecessarily they made me fill up extra 4/4.5 gallons of gas (worth $12 at least). The scale the counter lady provided was far from accurate. I was supposed to fill up 3/4 of the tank, I ended up with 7/8!Update: I emailed u-haul and later they issued $10 certificate for using in future rentals.

I needed an extension for the truck given complications moving in. I got an extension through corporates customer service. The rep said the extension would be $94, a $30 increase in fees that were originally $62. She told me that the extension would mean being charged for 2 days. I was told I could bring the truck back by 7:30 AM without incurring additional fees.Everything I was told was an absolute lie. I was charged $94 in addition to the $64 I was charged at the initial check in. I brought the truck back 5:30 on Saturday (14 hours before it was due back), and I was charged for after hour returns. I was also charged for 3 days as a penalty for extending my rental which I was not educated on over the phone. U-Haul is either shady in business practices or their employees are not properly trained to give exemplary customer service.When I talked to Vince, the manager, he claimed there was nothing he could do despite customer service telling me the wrong information. I got the impression he just didnt want to do anything more than being unable to help. There was no empathy whatsoever about my situation or dissatisfaction. This company by far has the worst customer service.I will never use U-Haul again nor will I recommend this company to anyone else for moving.

The general manager is prejudice and unprofessional. The trucks are not up to par. This location is the worst location to rent from thus far. Vincent does anything to get over on a woman. I rented a truck and he didnt want to grant me more time to move my futniture after a mirror fell off. I definitely will not be back. He is definitely unprofessional.

The employees are all smiles and act like theyre helping you, but beware because they will scam you at every opportunity. They charged me an extra $5 adjustment fee for no reason, in addition to the $5 environmental fee (so it wasnt that fee but an extra $5 they tacked on for nothing). They will also try to scam you on the fuel tank gauge, so heed the warning. They conveniently pull the truck up to the front for you and leave the keys in so you can just drive away, but check the fuel tank before you do. They marked on the paperwork that the tank was 3/4 full when it was nowhere near 3/4 full, so I went in and had them redo the paperwork. A previous review mentions that they do this, and when I went back in to mention this they didnt even blink much less looked surprised before redoing the paperwork, so they know what theyre doing is wrong/illegal but keep doing it anyway. It was marked down to 5/8 tank, but that was still more than what it actually was. I had already wasted enough time and didnt want to spend any more time having the paperwork redone a third time so I left. Immediately after leaving the UHaul lot the gas gauge dropped below 1/2 tank to almost 3/8 tank, so when they bring the equipment up front for your convenience they must park it on a special spot with risers or a slant so the gas gauge is a lot higher than it actually is. Pull out of the lot, take a photo of the gas gauge, and have them redo the paperwork unless you enjoy paying $20 more than you need to for gas.

Vince was very personable. He explained how the hitch worked. We disussed world events in the short time while we waited for the paperwork to be done. The equipment worked well except for the blinkers they never worked for me.

If you had a bad experience you are likely a jerk, i was in and out in 10 min, smooth as silk. The staff was polite and covered insurance, breakdown etc. I would use them again no problem.

I go to Uhaul locations daily. I run a moving company that has a partnership with Uhaul. I have literally been to every major Uhaul location in SE Wisconsin and NE Illinois. I have seen some really poorly run Uhaul locations. The 2020 West State Street location is by far the worst Uhaul location I have ever had to deal with. The manager and staff are equally unprofessional. I believe one of the employees was actually threatening me. However, it was hard to tell what he saying due to the heavy amount of slang he was using. I highly recommend that you DO NOT use this location, especially if you are interested in renting a Ubox. If you do infact rent a ubox from this location they will make you drop the loaded Ubox off at a different Uhaul location (which is 30-45 minutes round trip out of your way) and bring them back a empty Ubox. This cost extra gas money that came out of my pocket and I got charged 10 addidtional miles in the Uhaul truck as well. I have never had to deal with this shady of a set up at any of the other 100s of Uhaul locations I have been to. Long story short... The staff basically strong arms you into doing their dirty work, and they are extremely rude in the process. If you have any choice at all, go to a different Uhaul location.STAY AWAY FROM THIS UHAUL LOCATION!

Like another reviewer I decided to give this location the benefit of the doubt because it was so close to my new apartment. I too was proven wrong. They gave me the truck with half a tank of gas and told me to fill it up exactly halfway or be charged for them to fill it ($5.00 per gallon plus an additional $30 service fee). I complied and filled it exactly halfway. I dropped the truck off after hours and in the morning received an email stating that the tank was returned only 1/8th full so I was charged over $80 for them to fill it. Luckily I had gotten the feeling that they might screw me over and had taken a picture of the dashboard when I dropped it off showing the final mileage on the truck and the gas tank, exactly half full, just to the right of it.After calling to complain AND going back to the office to show them the picture I had taken they finally reversed the charges with the excuse that they probably read the gauge backwards. I asked them to explain what that meant (last time I checked half a tank is half a tank no matter how you look at it) and was told well, sometimes the full side and the empty side are reversed on the gauge. I think that speaks to the competency of staff this location.

I called and reserved a truck for 24 hours. The call center told me to call this specific location and confirm that the truck would be available. I did this and was told, the truck would be available​ and my reservation was confirmed. The following day I received a call that I could only have the truck for half of the time I requested it for, thus making my move impossible. Person I spoke with was unhelpful and didnt offer any alternatives, just waited on the other line for me to tell him he could cancel my reservation.

We took out insurance on the vehicle, returned it and received a call the next day that the dolly was missing. Was told I would be called back after things were figured out and then got an email that said I was charged 75 dollars. I called back and spoke with the manager Vince and was told there was nothing he could do about it. He then blamed me for the incident.
