This shop is great. Friendly staff w/ good communication: they reach out of they see any other potential issues with your bike and give you options. Nice hidden gem in NE.
I had been calling around to find the quickest option for getting my daughters training wheels replaced and Behind Bars said they didn’t have training wheels in their shop but since I already had bought some on Amazon they said to stop in so I did just that after work the next day. To my surprise It was finished in just a few minutes! Every other bike shop said it would take at least a week so I am extremely grateful! Their dog Harvey with his cute tricks kept my daughter happy as well. It’s a hidden gem in my opinion!
Great shop in Northeast. I am just getting into the bike world, and the staff here was very helpful in getting me outfitted with everything I need: helmet, u-lock, safety lights, etc. Decent selection and the prices are comparable to an REI type store.
Behind Bars runs a top notch shop! I live out of state and bought a bike locally on FB Marketplace. Jules and the team made the process of packing and shipping the bike super easy. They were extremely responsive both over phone and email and got my bike shipped out quickly. It arrived well packed and in perfect shaped. Looking forward to visiting the shop in person when I’m in Minneapolis.
Had an excellent experience at Behind Bars. They fixed some minor issues on a bike I had had assembled elsewhere at no cost. I also had them install a rack and basket. They perfectly matched the exact size of my oddly sized commuter bag to a basket that they special ordered for me. It fits perfectly and ticks all of the boxes I need for my commute, many of which I did not even know I needed. Great shop, nice mechanics, good vibes. What more could you want?
Super helpful shop! They had everything I needed to remove my BB (including grease suggestions). Staff was very friendly and Ill happily be coming back.
Showed up at this bike shop with a wreck of a Surly ECR cassette/chain/derailleur situation. 1 week before a gravel race - no appointment - in from out of town with one hour till close for the weekend! Everyone in that shop did everything they could to help me and in less than an hour my bike was perfect, all confidence restored. And not expensive either - how do you all do it? Also picked up a new frame mounted air pump, great selection to choose from. Great shop. Thank you!
Great service and great people. Broke a spoke and they got me up and running right away!! Awesome shop!
It is a Premium Bike Shop. My cousin spun through guy have some work done on a bike of his. Services listed above were akin to having maintaince/detailing work done on a vehicle. It looked like a very serious shop. I spoke to Matt - cool guy. While walking around and seeing what was up, bikes ranged from $400 to $7300 with most of what I saw hanging around the $2500-$3500 range. I would imagine itd be a great spot to hit to engage the bike community in the area. I would also imagine that youre either a connoisseur or someone looking for high quality work if you step in there.
What can I say about the whole crew at behind bars? Always helpful and knowledgeable. Also a great relaxed vibe to the store. This is my go-to shop and I live on the complete opposite side of town. Keep up the great work!
Ive been here a few times, and every time has been a great experience. The staff are always super friendly and helpful, and definitely know their stuff. Last time I went in to drop my bike off for some adjustments, and they just did it on the spot! I mean, where in the world do you actually get service like that?! HERE, thats where!
Great people, great service. I took my bike in for an assessment and they were quick and didnt try to upsell me on anything I didnt need. Im new to the area and this is my new local shop.
When I showed up after calling ahead, the staff were all taking a break outside, and my arrival seemed to end that. It was a lovely day, and props to them for enjoying it. However, I immediately felt unwelcome and judged by the staff member who helped me.I had a preference for a steel wheel for my vintage bike and that staff member looked at me like I had two heads when I said Id prefer not to buy an aluminum one for aesthetic purposes. I got the same look when I asked about a specific product from Finish Line. They frowned at me through the interaction and it felt like helping me was the last thing they wanted to do.It was weird and uncomfortable, and I dont know why I was met with that reaction. Ive never had an interaction like that before. This is the first place I decisively wont go back to.If youre looking to support a local bike shop in NE Minneapolis, Id recommend skipping this shop and going to Recovery Bike Shop for their awesome staff and rad prices (if what youre looking for is in stock).
Matt was very helpful, informative, and enjoyable to chat with. Hooked me up with a new saddle and installed it for me. Will definitely be coming back and hopefully becoming active in their get togethers and rides
Best bike shop in the city. I had an issue with my air pump constantly ripping out my tire valves. They put the valves back in at no charge which was amazing. They then recommended a pump that works properly and didnt try and upsell to the most expensive thing they have. The other thing I love about this place is that they dont make you feel dumb if you dont know much about bicycles. I know almost nothing beyond how to ride one and they never condescend of patronize. Thanks for all of your help. I always recommend you to anyone who needs help
We went in on a whim and received really good information on what bike to buy but didnt get the full on sales press which made it a really relaxing and fun experience to buying a bike. They have a number of models and designs so they should have something that fits your specific needs! They worked with me on providing a quote for transitioning a bike from a tri-bike to a road bike and helpful discussion on whether it was worth it or not to modify or buy new. Weve walked by this place a dozen times and have never seen it, thankfully we did this time!!!
I never really write reviews, but this place deserves one... I walked in randomly as its next door to my chiropractor, and the way I describe the place to my friends is that it is another world in there. The people are DOPE, the service is AMAZING, and the vibes are GOOD. nothing more to say to that. I didnt feel stupid asking questions (I am new to biking), which is a surprisingly a rare in the biking world. Thanks for everything - keep it up, Behind Bars!! going to tell everyone about you!!
Quick service, and they had in stock what Amazon did not, and for better price. Will be back in future!
This store is staffed by down to earth, not-snobby people. Last time they serviced my bike, they installed bar end plugs for free, which was a nice little touch! They are constantly getting shipments, so they can usually get parts and gear in quickly. They host all sorts of group rides, classes, etc. (when its safe to do so). Follow them on Facebook for info on that. They are currently only doing curbside service so I havent been inside yet.
Stopped in to get a mountain bike for our daughter who wants to start trail riding with us. We knew we would get great service as usual and we were not disappointed. This is one of the best shops in town. Scott was amazing! Thank you guys for always being so fantastic.
Amazing business with such kind hearted people! I picked up my brand new bike from here and two months later, got it stolen from the parking garage of my apartment building. Distraught, I had to file all the necessary reports. Called Behind Bars to inquire about the serial number on my bike. Scott could not have been any nicer! Luckily 3 days later my bike was recovered by police but it was a little beat up with one of the brake cables dangling. Called and was greeted by Scott again who ensured if I brought it in, they could take a look and make sure it was safe to ride again. Two days later I picked up my bike and was amazed at the care they put into it, making it look almost new again. My handle bars had been scuffed up on the ends and now you can hardly tell. Cable was reattached. The lovely employee who brought it out knew my story—I didn’t expect the service to be free of charge. Such an amazing experience with this shop. I now only know of one place I will always rely on for bikes.
Staff that knows biking is beautifully dirty.
Great service!, polite and inviting staff. We didnt wait long for service..right on with analysis.Thank you.
Purchased a bicycle. There was a bit of waiting around, which I maybe should have expected in the Year of our Lord 2020. But otherwise was treated friendly, and all of my silly issues and asks were handled competently. They did not have an online inventory that I could find, however it seems like there might be a vast conspiracy of bicycle shop collaboration within the Twin Cities area. I was brought into my understanding of this conspiracy after purchasing a bicycle at a different location and then picking it up here. To me, this conspiratorial collaboration was very convenient!
Small bike shop. The employees were surprisingly unhelpful when my wife was trying to buy a helmet, and they weren’t able to get her properly fitted. It was busy though, so I suppose they didn’t need our business.
It is so great to get good customer service and quality work these days. I bought a bike at Now about five years ago and have had some work done there. I was never really satisfied with the work or the interactions. They seem a little snooty. I brought my bike in for a tune up at Behind bars and had very good interactions. And when I got the bike back it was like a new bike. Cleaned and impeccably tuned. That is how you do it if you want repeat customers. Nice job fellas!
Behind Bars is THE BEST! They have fair pricing and reliable mechanics. Last Summer I got a quote from another bike shop in town (who will remain nameless) for a brake job that would run me almost $300. I brought my bike in and they fixed it for less than $60. You should spend your money at this bike shop. It a neighborhood small business and they ROCK!
I visited because I needed a helmet during the COVID-19 pandemic. They are remaining responsive to customer needs while taking thorough precautions for safety. The service was friendly and very helpful, with the employee bringing options to the curb based on the needs I shared with him. Overall the experience was great and I got what I was looking for in a very difficult environment. The shop is also in a very cute area of the city!
Ive been going to Behind Bars since moving to the NE Minneapolis neighborhood some years ago and theyve always done great work.Today, I found a crack in one of my rims. On the ride over, I got a flat (3rd one in 3 days, so it seems there was likely an issue with the tire wearing out too, in addition to the tube). Not only did they help me pick a replacement rim, new tire, and new tube, but they installed them and had me back on the road in just 25 minutes.Behind Bars Bicycle Shop is a great local bike service and sales spot. I highly recommend them and will continue bringing my bike there.
10/10! Brought in my grandpas old bike for new tires and a tune up and it came back outstanding! Everything was all cleaned up and looked like a brand new bike. Great service! Highly recommended. Will be back again!
Stopped by for same day tubeless set-up and they were happy to help!
Had crank issues last summer that another shop failed to diagnose. Behind Bars had the issue sorted in a few days. Have always helped me out with random project bike build issues and everyone has been super rad!
Wonderful shop full of wonderful folks :)
I love this shop. Excellent customer service, very willing to take time sharing information with reasonable prices.
I was biking in the area after swapping tires that morning and I realized the bead on my rear wheel hadnt set properly. Luckily we were a block away from Behind Bars and the mechanic quickly fixed the problem for me free of charge! (super friendly dude, I wish I could remember his name)We are moving to the area in May and Im excited for this place to be our LBS going forward!
Hard to find but nice service when I got there. But them not being open Sunday & Monday really is a bummer? And they wont get to the bike repair until Wednesday which sucks.
We arent big bike people. By that I mean, we dont know much about bike brands and all the latest bike technology. But we bike a fair amount and were shopping for a new bike for my wife. All of the employees were great. They were very patient with us and really tried to understand her needs and recommend bikes they thought would suit her. Max from the shop was particularly great and spent a lot of time with us.We looked at around 5 bike shops, she rode a ton of bikes, and ultimately picked one from behind bars. They were very friendly when we came back for a second ride and let her take the bike out for almost 40 minutes, so she could be sure it was the right one. After buying her bike, and seeing their service quality, i brought my vintage bike in for a tune up. I was planning on getting one of the more expensive packages, but their mechanic took a look while i was standing there and said it only needed a small amount of work, which was much less expensive than the package. I really appreciate that kind of honesty. Especially when dealing with a non-expert like me.I would highly recommend this shop for bike purchases or repairs.
Most bike shop mechanics do not take the time to explain what is wrong with your bike and how they will try to fix it. You can tell the experience with these guys, since they are able to guide you through options and inform you about the bikes underlying issues along the way. I took my bike in after not being able to figure out what was wrong with it at home. It rides like a dream now after visiting Behind Bars!!
Great shop. One of the techs even relubed my bearings for free! (Maybe I shouldnt say that). Im a Trek guy and unfortunately they dont carry Trek bikes but I know that I will be coming to Behind Bars for my bicycle needs in the future!
Good price on repairs, excellent customer service. Replaced sprocket, chain, brake pads and cable while I waited, and did it in less time than they told me.
Good bike store. Good service.
Really friendly and knowledgeable people! They made my shopping experience great and they’ve got a really organized system for social distancing operations.
A great bike shop in the heart of NE Minneapolis. They have reasonable prices for their repair services and usually do it while you wait.We had our bikes shipped up from Atlanta via Bike Flights (look them up for your bike shipping needs, theyre great) and they were partially disassembled in a box. David and Chris were gracious enough to accommodate our bike assembly shortly before they closed and did a great job at it.They offered advice and suggestions for our mountain biking needs.Theres a mountain biking club for women that I was suggested. Will definitely be back!
Had a great experience buying a bike here! Ended up here because they sold Kona and they had many Kona bikes! Staff were very friendly, knowledgeable, and kind. 10/10 would recommend.
Very honest. Brought my husbands bike in for a tune-up and repair. Guy was honest and said it only needed a small repair. He was willing to fix it on the spot even. Very nice group of guys. Highly recommend this shop.
Its a great bike shop. Ill be back. Same fine folks and great mechanics for years. Give them a shot. Just start up a conversation and you wont be upset you did
Amazing shop, kind people. Truly a neighborhood bike shop that places an emphasis on community. If you need anything bike related, this is your shop! Affordable pricing as well.
I just got my bike tuned up by Behind Bars. I did the deluxe tune because I havent been great about maintenance in the four years Ive had the bike. Due to the number of miles I put on each year, I did need a bunch of new parts as well.It was well worth the money! My bike rides like its brand new.I would definitely recommended Behind Bars for your bike maintenance and repair needs!
Helpful staff, answered questions and were willing to special order parts not available in store.
Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. Would highly recommend.
Best bike shop in the metro. I’ve been going there for years and always have a good experience. Don’t mess around go to them!
This is a great bike shop. Ive taken my bike in multiple times, including after completely wrecking the front end after a wipe out, and they were friendly, fair, and thorough. Theyve never tried to upsell services I didnt need and did a great job getting my bike back up and rolling.
In and out of the shop in no time. Great customer service and friendly. They did not even charge me for the part!
In Minneapolis its not a secret. Just look at the stars before the many reviews for Behind bars They are truly awesome thanks to them, Snows hopefully close to being gone soon They got great deal on last years parts bikes service is great read the reviews
Excellent, friendly, and very quick service! Walked in, bought a bike from Christian and Max set it up while I waited. He even offered and mounted the cycle computer I bought at the same time. Great shop and great people. Thanks!
Good service, quick and just what I needed.
I moved to Minneapolis about two years ago and first went to a bike shop near where I lived in Uptown. Worst service I had ever experienced and left a bad taste in my mouth for bike shops up here. Well, I moved to Northeast Minneapolis and walked by this place when I needed a helmet. The guys in there were super friendly and super helpful in finding me the right bike helmet. Im not a bike expert by any means and they didnt get an attitude with me or act annoyed when I asked questions. After that we decided to bring my bike in for a tune up and to have the brake pads changed. All was done at a reasonable price and the process was sweet and simple. Definitely will go back.
These guys sold me my first bike as an adult and have been keeping it (and me) in top shape ever since. Always appreciate the crews helpful advice and willingness to fix my abused parts without making me feel like a fool (which I know I am when it comes to legitimately caring for my bike).Long story short, this place is great and I love supporting my local shop.
Staff very friendly. Helpful, quick to answer our questions. Good selection of new and used steel bikes.
After frequenting many other bike shops, I will tell you this is second-to-none. Non-pretentious, reasonable pricing, and very low-pressure sales. Thanks, guys!
Willing to help from small to large repair work. Friendly if you are patient and respect other customers. They have a biking chicken drawn on the wall. 🐔
Great little bike shop. The employees enjoy what they do and know the product well.
Saw all the positive comments and was excited to check this place out. Staff more interested in the Leet biker customers and was treated like I didnt know my stuff which is true but I sure dont like being treated that way. Oh well dont usually write reviews but wanted to post for those people like me who actually check them out.
Great shop with very friendly and knowledgeable staff. The guys there will know exactly what you need for whatever you want to do with your bike from a new build to updating your 1970s 10 speed to modern components.
Good people - great service
Amazing bike shop. I came in for Stuporbowlxxii from Montreal via Greyhound. My bike was damaged by Greyhound on way to Minneapolis. My Friend and Organizer Andy Lageson of stuporbowl said just get here Dave. I will take your to Behind Bikes and get you a loaner while they fix you Norco. Thank guys for fixing my bike and more. I highly recommend this bike shop and I have never met anyone from shop.
The best little neighborhood bike shop. They have all the important stuff you need. The staff is always helpful and knowledgeable.
Great information, good advice. Brought in my broken bike, got an estimate and an offer of a used bike for only a bit more than fixing my old one. They didnt talk down to me or ignore me because Im not a serious bike person.
Nice selection of kona bikes and numerous accessories for all types. Customer service exceeded my expectations.
Amazing service and repair guidance from Max and Anders (I think thats his name). Will definitely be back soon!
We will go out of our way to go to Behind Bars. Excellent service!
A real surprise, awesomely cool bike shop in Northeast Minneapolis. Found it on Google Maps
Super friendly and helpful shop.
I love this bike shop! The selection is perfect and the staff is extremely friendly and knowledgable.
Music in this shop is always amazing.
Love the attitude of the people who work here!
Im happy with the purchase of my bike people are friendly
Definitely a knowledgeable staff, but when the interweb says youre open until 7pm, you shouldnt be closed at 6.
Great service; helpful, friendly staff.
Awesome friendly shop that does great work quickly.
Good people with good knowledge of bikes. Would rather spend a few more pennies here and get the right parts then ordering online.
Super friendly and knowledgeable staff
This is the kind of business you want in your neighborhood. The staff is down to earth and very helpful.
I just purchased my first bicycle ever, and was pleasantly surprised by Behind Bars. I was very much out of my element, but the staff was very friendly and informative; not at all condescending. I would recommend them to anyone.
Great service, love the products and prices!
Thank you all for the great customer service!
Great service and excellent product line.
Best bike shop in town
Nice shop, a little pricey...
I cant recommend this place enough.
What time will you home?
