I couldnt be more happy with my Prairie Crow custom bike. Perfect year round bike machine. Im very excited about this new custom front rack Alex designed and just installed! It has a lot of great custom touches to it that really fit the flow of the bike aesthetically and is extremely practical and durable at the same time.
Alex has done four projects for me: three frame modifications (including adding/moving brake bosses, rack/fender eyelets, and other attachment braze-ons) and a custom front rack. For all these projects, Alex was extremely approachable and took all the time I needed to talk through options. After years of use, everything he has done continues to impress. For the past three years, my everyday, year-round ride has been a Prairie Crow-modified frame with a Prairie Crow rack. Brake bosses placed to accommodate larger tires, fender and rack eyelets, and a rack that fit my exact needs is all it took to finally turn a really cool old frame into the exact ride I wanted. I will certainly be getting a custom Prairie Crow frame in the future.
Two years ago, I had Alex make major modifications to my old Trek frameset. He was very accommodating as I wanted to build it back up myself and build my own wheels. In addition to numerous braze-ons, he skillfully added routing through the down-tube for my dynamo lighting out through the bottom bracket, center-pull brake studs and custom rack mounts all setup for a 650b conversion. It turned out great, and 7000+ miles or so later Im happy to report Im just as pleased with the work as I was on day one.
I worked with Alex on my dream bike, and it turned out amazing. We swapped references, talked about geometry, riding style, pawed through his collection of awesome classic bike bits, and i wound up with a gorgeous road bike perfect for pounding the Wisconsin trails. It was an absolute blast working with Alex, and if youre someone who wants a guide to help you nerd out on pursuing your dream bike,, congratulations, you found the right place!
Building up another bike project for myself and learned that Alex had started Prairie Crow from friends at The Hub. Recommended for a few dent rolls and a small cut in the frame. He did fantastic work and any/all projects I know who to call. I’ll bring by the finished bike once complete!
Alex installed auxiliary eyelets on my all-terrain touring/bikepacking bike, so as to increase water-carrying capacity. In addition to the very reasonable turnaround time, the results performed spectacularly through 1,000+ miles of fully-loaded desert mountain bike touring.
This guy makes some seriously beautiful frames. Alex built my track frame, accommodated everything I wanted in the frame and steered me in the right direction on some options I wasnt sure about. Alex took great effort and pride to polish the lugs on the frame and it really shows too. The paint job was exactly what I wanted, expertly done around the lugs so they really pop.Great process from start to finish, ideal experience when youre buying a custom item.
Alex repaired some fairly major breaks on my much-loved early-80s Trek road bike frame. Great at talking through options, good communication about things that came up during the repair process, and the results look great, and are working well! Not relevant to all, but: Im not a dude, and Im a less-than-athletic, middle-aged, non-technical rider. I didnt feel talked-down to or disrespected at any point in the process, which is unfortunately still not always true around bike-stuff. Yay, Alex!
Prairie crow is a pleasure to work with and always delivers exactly what I need wether it be building a custom fork or modifying and repairing existing frames/forks. 10/10
