Pros:Nice location.Friendly staff.Cons: Food wasn’t great and a bit expensive for the quality you get.On google it says that they open at 7am which isn’t accurate. I was there at 7:10 on a Tuesday and the place was still closed. I had to return after 10.I ordered avocado on toast. The bread was so overdone that one of the slices was like a brick- I couldn’t cut it! The other slice was too black in some parts. The tomato chutney on the avocado was acceptable. The avocado was great but overall the dish not good enough for £8.I wouldn’t recommend.
Great location and lovely little cafe, coffee was better than most places. However, the hot chocolate was extortionately priced and just tasted of milk with a hint of chocolate
Occupying what some would describe as prime real estate in York the PP does its best to eek out the intricacies of it also quite difficult physical positioning. For a while the roadside access at water level has been barred and this has allowed them to spill out a bit rather than gluing punters to the waters edge - a boon in the summer since seating can only be described as cosy in the actual cafe (nice cosy though). They do trade though and the coffee and fudge cake I had was exemplary. Bar a touch of slender sarcasm from the proprietor (me - Id like a coffee, him - youre in the right place) the only downside is a lack of toilets. The closest are just over the bridge on the left in the library (I can hear you saying whats one of those - but thats a discussion for another day) when its open else trot back to the station from whence you came. Nice watching the canoe club (probably got that wrong - apologies) though on a beautiful crisp autumnal morning.
Lovely friendly coffee shop in an ancient tower by the river in York. Only a couple of tables inside but lots outside with great views
Lovely little find. The staff are friendly and happy. I had about an hour to kill between arriving in York and my next travel arrangement. So glad I picked this spot. The venue is a short distance from the train station and next to the river. Great view, great coffee and scones. Thank you.
We were in York for a couple of days, and we came across this quirky little cafe, while walking the walls of York on an extremely wet day, and were delighted by our find. Beautifully cosy and unique, and served by a friendly man, possibly owner, who wasnt at all put off by our very wet state! We finished the walls by the way, wasnt going to be deterred by the rain!!
A delightful location. Seems to have lost focus recently. Orders often incorrect and items forgotten. Coffee whilst still good is no longer great. Hopefully a glitch.
Great wee cafe on the waterfront, really nice food. Great place for breakfast before walking the wall. The servers were polite, prompt and well presented.
Popped in last week as I was showing a family member around the city. A wonderful friendly greeting by one of the staff members and we sat outside for our lattes and cakes. The homemade cakes are absolutely awesome 👌 I had a white chocolate tiffin cake and my family member a coconut and lime, they were both exquisite and it was such a relaxing spot to sit by the river and take a load off. Thanks so much for great customer service with a smile and yummy cakes! Highly recommended 👍
This was our 4th visit to the Perky Peacock. Always very happy with the food and service not to mention the view of the river BUT on this occasion the food was very disappointing. The order amounted to the following1) Brie on soda bread (no bacon wanted) 30pence extra charged for the soda bread .2) Tuna & mayo on two slices of white bread. Both served with a few crisps. Two coffees.Total cost £19.00Past meals have been served with a small salad making a reasonable meal but on this occasion considering the cost the quantity was inadequate. What has changed?
One of my favorites! We always make sure to make time to swing by for food or a coffee before a jaunt around the river!Simple things like the host moving a table for us today so we could have a nice view of the river while we ate make it such a nice place to visit! So happy this place made it through the lockdown! Will be returning as soon as were back in the city!
Lovely place freindly staff food amazing a hidden gem..
Came here early morning as nowhere else seemed to be open about 8am. Great little coffee shop right on the waterfront, reasonably priced. Wasnt too busy so relatively quick service. Only reason for 4 stars the milk jar I recieved for my coffee looked extremely dirty like it hadnt been washed, cant complain otherwise. Lovely bacon sandwich and coffee. If your walking by its a great place to call and have a sit down.
Great cafe right by the river with lovely staff and delicious coffee. The cakes looked great, shame Im on a diet!
Lovely toasted bacon sandwich and latte, sat by the Riverside in the morning sun really lovely quirky cafe, friendly staff and great service.
Rest find lovely atmosphere nice staff full of historyWill call again
Lovely place to stop, amazing sandwiches. The poor staff member who was taking orders and payments was running about like a headless chicken and making it seem like the easiest thing in the world. Kudos to him.
Lovely place on the river sideThe staff was really nice and friendly, we ordered coffee, which was really good and an scone and a sausage roll, both of them wete home made and incredible good. The location can’t be better we been siting outside under the shade of the bridge, with a lovely view, but the coffee shop is really cosy as well.I totally recommend, it is a must if u like coffee and u are in York.
What a great find in a very unexpected place. Taking advantage of a nice day. Me and my pooch took a trip into town to find ice cream. Right at the end of the walk we came across The Perky Peacock. And guess what?? Ice cream for me and specific ice cream for the pooch 👍👌. Mum happy, I didnt have to share and the pooch had stomach friendly ice cream. What more could you ask for at the end of a walk.
Dont get me wrong - this is a 5-star rated only for the sausage roll - literally THE BEST one Ive ever had in my life. Coffee is good too (one of the nicer one I had during my roadtrip from liverpool and edinburgh). However, place is very small altho located really by the river with nice view. Service and cleanliness are a quite bad (but staffs are very friendly) - dirty tables not being cleaned right away.
Great coffee and places to sit inside or outside. They have breakfast food like porridge and toasts with jams or avocado. They also have sandwiches and cakes for lunch. A good spot to have a quick bite in or grab a takeaway. Easy location at Lendal Bridge to stop at as well on the way to/from the city centre and train station.
Great homemade looking bagel and a suprise to see you could sit in the dungeon and look out across the river
Always great barista coffee and now with pleasant outdoor seating with river views.
Nice location by the river but very expensive, 2 toasties and 2 hot drinks, over £18. Mostly outdoor seating.
Great place to have a coffee riverside
Really good location when its sunny. Lots of vegan options too. Vanilla Latte was a hit.
Nice quaint coffee house serving very good coffee and interesting selection of cakes and sandwiches. However the cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired with little attention to hand washing even after one of the severs had stroked and fed a dog! And yes they allow dogs in... During these times, hygiene should be a top priority which is definitely not the case here.
Food Fabulous customer service fabulous could not have asked for more xxx
Excellent! Lovely cake and drink
Karen is a welcoming and genuine person who runs a quaint and delightful coffee shop in a beautiful medieval tower .The coffee is fantastic and just as warm as the welcome .
Brilliant location hidden under Lendal bridge. Seek it out.
Excellent coffee, very nice and helpful staff .
Friendly, speedy, tasty bacon sandwich and particularly good coffee. Thank you.
Lovely little coffee and cake cafe, right next to the river. They also do fantastic looking sandwiches with all sorts of fillings in wedges of fresh bread. If if its a dry day then you can sit outside on there querky tables and chairs under the arches and on the cobbled street. If its wet then then you might struggle to get a seat inside but if you can you wont be disappointed. Sitting inside the medieval Postern Tower. Staff were very nice and helpful which tops off a nice pit stop from walking the wall.of the wall
Lovely spot to sit and watch the river boats with a coffee
When we arrived there were no staff present, we were unsure where to sit/what to do, given covid so I went upstairs and was told to sit anywhere downstairs.Went to order at the makeshift counter outside, waited in line for 15mins and found out that they forgot to charge the ipad so every time an order was made, they had to run upstairs before taking payments. The food was a 15/20min wait, even though we were told 5 minutes. The tea was awful, Im not sure how a cup of Yorkshire tea can taste so bad, but it did. The cutlery was dirty & when the food arrived, the bread was so chewy, youd think they left it out in the open for 24hrs prior to serving.Ive lived in York for over 2 years and this was the worst food experience Ive ever had.During a pandemic, youd think a business would be more organised. Not this one. All the problems wouldve been solved if they have 1 person cooking, 1 person on drinks, 1 taking orders and 2 serving/cleaning. They had enough staff in to do this, but they just werent organised at all.
Great little cafe friendly staff with seating by the river and dog friendly
Very good.
Great cakes, tea and service
My favourite coffee shop in York. The cappuccino is good, the caramel apple pie is just wonderful, and you can enjoy the river view in the morning. You can also stay inside and enjoying the warm and cosy tower with smell of fresh coffee
Like others before me, I found the staff very friendly. Nice menu - I chose avocado on toast and enjoyed. Didnt try inside, luckily the weather allowed Al fresco dining.
Really great spot -- regret not trying it out sooner! staff are so friendly, and the food was delicious and served quickly despite how busy they were. had a coffee afterwards and that was amazing, too. the folks here really work their socks off to make sure you have a good experience!
Best sausage rolls ever
Great takeaway service during Lockdown 2.0. Nice coffee and a friendly chat. Thank you.
Lovely place to drink coffee,Outdoor seating is available to enjoy river view 😊A bit crowded in the morning though
Lovely location by the river with shelter under a bridge. Friendly staff, good quality drinks and cakes.
Nice spot, small inside with few tables outside by the river. Nice cake, coffee could be better
Love this place and cant wait to go back soon!!
Only gave this 3 stars because there was no toilets as it was an old building. Food and coffee was nice though! I would go again but not when I need the toilet! Lol
Hidden away near the River Ouse
Really love this independent coffee shop - great coffee and atmosphere. I always make sure to go in my work breaks. Made a special effort today to go, having been working from home. Catching up with the owners is always lovely.
The food was appalling and extremely overpriced. We received dirty cutlery. The table wasnt cleaned until we were already sat down. Probably the worst cafe in York
As of right now, my all time favorite coffee shop anywhere in the world. Tucked away by the bridge next to the river, it invites one to cozy in and partake of homemade goodness and an amazing brew. The staff are welcoming and rainy days bring you in where books, sofa and delightful conversation awaits. All while savoring an artisan bread sandwich for lunch or a lovely breakfast porridge. If you wish to be sun kissed on those days it chooses to shine, there is a small patio (two tables for two) at the top of the stairs and more seating at the base by the river. Ive made York part of my travels multiple times and this cafe is one of the main reasons. It just is everything I love in a cafe [add a mellow musician (though I dont know where they would perch) and I dont think I would ever leave]❤ Thank you for your magic, Perky Peacock.
Nice place for a coffee and Bacon butties for 3 exept I didnt get one as they run out of bacon Boohoo Sit A great spot to be
A great little cafe inside Barker tower and one of our go to places when we visit York. I had the hipster Bacon Sandwich recently and it was excellent as was the coffee. It would be hard to find a more historic place to have take the weight off your feet. There is outdoor seating for milder weather or the hardy coffee drinker in winter, the interior seating is cosy.
Excellent little coffe/tea Cafe on the banks of the river! Highly recommended if youre visiting York.
Good tea/coffee and in a nice location. Pricing reasonable. Internal seating is limited.
Friendly service, good coffee, funky location.Didnt eat there but looked a decent selection of bites to eat.
Awesome location. Coffee I think needs to be upped, I would expect better for its reputation.
Love this place for coffee and nibbles. Lovely staff..👍
