Must see when visiting NOLA! The details and hard work that go into these amazing pieces are seen up close and personal with a walk thru the warehouse. You can even see where they’re working on future float pieces and designs. There’s an awesome view of their 3D printer/ designer machine to see how technology is helping aid the creative process. They also offer a free shuttle service adding value to their ticket prices. Definitely worth it, enjoy!
This place is very cool. You first watch a 10 minute video that goes over the history of the company that makes the floats and the history of Mardi Gras parades in general. Then you are allowed to wander around the facility and look at all the floats firsthand. It was really fun to see them up close and take pictures. There is not really a guided tour of the facility, but it was still very fun.
Honestly, I have never heard about this place and my sister heard about it from a friend who lives in New Orleans. I highly recommend. I would tell anybody whos going to New Orleans to go here! Theres a great gift shop and they give you cake as a gift for free along with a beaded necklace for your entrance. Theres a great film to watch before you tour the museum about the history of Mardi gras. One of the coolest things is when you go to the outdoor portion theres people actively working on floats which is really cool to see. I was mesmerized by everything I saw and I loved how you could get really close to everything. The amount of pictures I took - I could have took it taken away more and they did not do it justice!
The scale of the place was immense and the floats were colorful and impressive. We wanted to watch the informational film before going on the self guided tour... There was sound, but no picture, so we just went on to the tour. Besides a couple of signs that directed people where to go and not go, I didnt see anything that explained what we were viewing. There was a cool area where patrons could watch a robot carve styrofoam forms, but again, no information posted on the exhibit.
Great artistry! The sculpting, the colors, the displays. Loved it all.*well almost all..... happy they offered a free shuttle service but the driver was not the most pleasant (rather rude). Whatever, good thing it was a short ride.Back to the good stuff, the floats are spectacular!!! Will definitely be back.
Its definitely cool to look at. The video at the beginning and the King Cake were nice touches. I wish there were more signs or something educating about the different floats. Im still trying to debate if it was worth the $22 since the whole tour took like 45 min and 15 min of it was during the video. Once COVID ends, I think this would be nice with guided tours or maybe audio tours.
What a great find. GO GO GO! take a break from the debauchery and go. They own a shuttle bus that will take you from canal street to the museum - take it and dont walk because it is further than you think. The artistry and imagination of this place will absolutely blow your mind. The artists work on the floats while you are there too and will talk to you. Also they give you king cake! Well worth the $20.
This is definitely a very fun and colorful place. You start by a short movie about Mardi Gras World and afterwards you take the tour as you wish and spend time in the warehouse however you want. When we were there it wasnt crowded. Exhibits are very nice and cool to see. Warning though warehouse is literally burning 🥵 they have huge fans on the ceiling but it doesnt help at all.
This is my familys second time at Mardi Gras World and once again we had a blast. The tour starts with the staff giving you beads, so that you know which tour group you are assigned to. They then give you a slice of King Cake to enjoy while you watch a 15 minute video about the history of Mardi Gras Parades in New Orleans. From there we started a self guided tour of the Mardi Gras World Where House. Take your time to read all the plaques because it will add to your overall enjoyment. The tour concludes with you and your group getting to check out Pixie! Again, take your time. It adds to your overall experience! Shuttle service is available if you are staying in any of the neighboring districts.
It is not disappointing if you consider the craftsmanship that goes into making all the figurines and also the surprising amount of detail that goes into most of them. However, it looks more like the workshop it is, than a museum and some of the workpieces in the exhibit are damaged, like some of the floor railing at the end of the exhibit.
Okay place to spend an hour or so but kind of pricey for larger families. It does get very very hot inside the building.
Highlight of my trip to New Orleans next to the Creole Queen. We spent about 3 hours here!Started our tour with king cake and video presentation and became more and more enchanted as out time went on.This is 100% a must visit destination when visiting the city. The best year round mardi gras museum/exhibit I have ever been to!Kern studios do it right!
Very cool. (Be prepared, no a/c in the warehouse. But there is in the gift shop.) But super cool!!!
Absolute MUST see activity in NOLA!!! If you dont get here then you missed the main event in your entire vacation!! The Mardi Gras magic happens here!
Good place to hang out for about an hour or so. Has a nice video that explains Mardi Gras, the floats, and the Krewes. You can then walk around the factory and watch them make new floats and see old ones. Parking is located before you cross the tracks to the right. It is in a convention center parking space. Shuttle runs on a regular basis.
It was so amazing getting a behind the scenes tour of what all goes into making Mardi Gras so amazing!!
You must start your New Orleans visit here! Had a fantastic time here! Learned the history of Mardi Gras, had king cake, dressed up and got to have free reign in the warehouse after the tour and presentation. Lots of pics and fun!
Had a really fun time walking around looking at all the floats and stuff and ppl were working on new ones.
FUN FUN FUN.....the Mardi Gras experience without the crowds and noise! We took our son who has autism and sensory issues and he had a blast! Beautiful Sculpture Floats and lots of great information on the history of New Orleans Mardi Gras celebrations 😁👍
Must see, fun and family safe... amazingly good time . Ask the driver questions about everything you saw ..so helpful
This is great stop to start your Mardi Gras Journey. This museum plays for visitors a documentary video at the beginning and provides self-guided tour around the warehouse.Super interesting to see on your eyes the process of the creation of such a beauty! We met a few artists during the process, which was wonderful.Tickets were about $25 which worth it, but parking isnt free, it is $20 per vehicle, it is a robbery, a way too expensive!
This place is worth a stop and perhaps even a detour. For the curious mind and creative spirit. Take a look first hand at some of the most impressive floats to be used in the Mardigras parade! You get to see how theyre made as well. This place feels like a museum, filled with history and wonder. Photo-op paradise btw. If youre in the city of New Orleans, dont miss out on this spot
We had a blast here! Cant believe it took me so long to finally pay a visit. The artisans at work are co to see. It is also cool learning about what it tKes to produce a grand Mardi Gras experience. Super co spot!
Really cool experience. The short film was informative and descriptive. I now know much more about Mardi Gras, the parades and floats. I think someday soon I will be joining a crewe so I can fully engulf myself in the Mardi Gras traditions. I found the construction of all the float characters to be fascinating. A must see attraction for anyone visiting New Orleans. Cant wait to go back.
The movie at the begging was very informative and you can take your time during the walk though which is good because there is alot to see. Worth going to see.
The artistry is amazing! Definitely worth a visit.
Great way to learn about Mardi Gras and take selfies. Plus complimentary King cake!
It was great fun to go walk amongst the artist areas where the craft happens. Then to see the large characters ready for the floats and from years past. Just amazing.
I loved to see all the different types of floats and the history video was very interesting especially the spelling of krew. If you get a chance to watch Amazing Race with the episode od the putting a world map together, go out back to the rim of the river and look to the left thats the bridge the flu off the grab the ticket. Oh and she did say yes.
It was pretty cool. No tour guide right now because of covid. They started off with video, explaining Mardi Gras and then youre able to walk around and look and take pictures of the floats.
The details and ingenuity and craftsmanship was astounding! These are handcrafted using styrofoam and paper mache! There was so much to see! The staff was so friendly! It was very interesting learning about the history of Mardi Gras! It was a lot of fun, an experience we will not forget!
My husband and I both thought this was a fun stop. They offer a sort film with the history of Mardi Gras in NOLA. Then we got to wander around the warehouse and see people working on current float props and see the steps of creation. We got to admire many props around the warehouse. Amazing artwork! We even got a piece of King Cake to try. Fun.
A great experience! The video beforehand was very informational. The shop was great! Not only did we get to see old floats and pieces of art, but we got to see several artists working their magic. Plus, their complimentary King Cake was WONDERFUL! And their shuttle driver was a great conversationalist! Thanks everyone!
Fascinating stories about Mardi Gras and there floats.
Place is so cool!!Definitely a must do when visiting New Orleans.
The free kings cake was a sweet touch. Seeing the different floats and workspaces was really cool. A lot of photo ops for those who like that sort of thing. Great customer service as well. They do offer a free shuttle so definitely inquire if staying near by.
Awesome archive of floats and models with a chance to see the artistic process with live artists at work!
Fun place to see the floats and we were lucky enough to see a band practicing by the water.
It was great to get an up close look at some of the past and future Mardi Gras floats. The details that go into the props were really amazing. We watched an artist adding white accents to the pupils of a face climb down from her ladder to step back 20ft and get a better perspective of what parade goers would see. It is art at the heart of it all, not just junk to drag down the road. Only 2 other people in the place while we were there. Free shuttle makes it convenient and summer admission is reduced price, bonus! Be aware that it is an open warehouse without climate control. Even though its on the river, hot is hot in NOLA.
A charming site to visit and especially to start or end a Mississippi River cruise with American Queen Steamboat Company.
20$ parking, for parking take the right before the train tracks. There is no parking past the train tracks.14$ for kids (2-12)22$ for adultsI rate this a 4/5 only because of the pricing other wise the attraction is very interesting.
Unbelievable display of craftsmanship! Our guide walked us through not only the many steps in creation of these magnificent floats, but the history of the parades and the many thousands of those who participated over the decades. Definitely a must when in NOLA!! You were up close to these floats!
Just fun time seeing the amounts of things used for the parade..
Interesting visit behind the scenes of how parade floats come together.
Learned a few things about Mardi Gras that I didnt know. Interesting and fun. You get to watch artisans at work crafting parts of future floats.
Very interesting place to see. Was intrigued on the history and how the floats were made.
Absolutely do not miss, so much fun seeing the artists actually working on the figures. Risa, one of the artists, was so informative and an absolute pleasure to meet. We even got to see the set up for NOLAween.
Very enjoyable place to visit and learn all about Mardi Gras! Where else would you be able to get this close up to the floats and see how theyre made?!
This is such a special and amazing place. Ive learned so much About the process and time it takes to create these works of art. A wonderful insight into the history and culture of Mardi Gras. Dont miss the short film they play in the theatre. The place is huge and airy and masks are enforced, so its a very safe activity during COVID.
Im not a big fan of seeing how the floats were made. Even if I were, I think they charge too much. I wasnt overly thrilled.
A really cool experience. The tour appeared to be longer and larger than what it actually was but still was a good experience. Myself and my family enjoyed ourselves. You get a free slice of king cake which makes it a lot better as well. So we definitely recommend visiting.
We had a wonderful time at mardi gras world! The staff was friendly and informative and the displays were beautiful and showed a behind the scenes look at the history and pageantry of mardi gras. I am so glad we decided to check it out.
Loved looking at all the Mardi Gras floats and props and learning the history of the Parade Krewes
Pretty cool place. No artists were working when I was there.
Beautiful floats. Free shuttle. Very nice knowledgeable people. Must for visiting Nola.
This place is amazing! It was 100% worth the money. If you are a student, bring your ID for a discount! It was super cool to learn some history about the culture of Mardi Gras, get some King Cake, then see the decorations before they even hit the streets! Our tour guide was awesome, he had a wealth of knowledge and a great personality.
From all the tours we visited. This was my.favorite. I LOVED this place..it was beautiful and we got to g eff t up close and personal with the floats. Totally mind blowing to see the artistry and use of colors. We loved it. A must see. Free parking off the street and easy to navigate. Lots of family fun.I do.t want to post too many photos and spoil the fun for you. Go see it for yourself!!!
Definitely worth a visit I would say. You get to see all the floats up close they are big ok mean big. Its amazing how much work it probably takes to make one of these. Its something out side the realm of Restaurant and drinking when you are in new Orleans for sure.
Still worth the visit during COVID if youve never been before! We watched a short movie in their theater on Mardis Gras and how floats are made. You can walk around the warehouse on a self-guided tour and see how floats are pained and put together with styrofoam and papier-mache. The floats are beautiful and spectacular to see up close.
This was a very cool experience! I loved seeing all of the different processes that can go into these works of art! Its pretty fun to explore and take pictures with all the different floats! Its definitely worth a visit if you havent been before. Also it was my first time trying king cake, it was yummy!
Its a sight to watch these pieces of art come to life. Everyone is full on positive energy. I do wish later on they can either relocate or fix uo the warehouse. It is old and seen some stuff. Rain falls through parts of the ceiling in various locations
Wow. Kern makes stuff for Disney and Universal etc, so it’s not just Mardi Gras. I was blown away! Consider this an essential stop while in New Orleans. ⚜️
Absolutely beautiful and I would come again whenever I travel back out here, NEXT TIME I WANT TO BRING OUR CHILDREN 🤩🤩😘😘😘...ME AND MY HUSBAND LOVED IT HERE
Its a beautiful place to visit. Tons of Mardi Gras floats and figures. Informative 15 minute video then it was a nice stroll through work areas and older floats. Great place for you kid. But no touching for kids please!
So much talent and art work put into the event its amazing
Was a fun place. Nice to see the floats and items up close. Lots of fun for the kiddo. Huge place. Nice staff.
This place educated me on what Mardi Gras is all about. These guys are true artists and do an amazing job on these floats. Makes me want to come back next month for the parades!
If you want the behind the scenes look into Mardi Gras this is the place!!!
Fun visit. Lots to see. 😊
Tbh, you can probably skip this. Tickets are cheap enough that you wont be upset about spending the money, but its kind of a hackneyed attempt at pulling in more tourist dollars. I will say that the king cake was definitely the surprise of the event. I expected it to be dry and flavorless but it was actually pretty good.
It was very interesting to learn about the history and see what goes into making the parades
I think its a little pricey for the tour and nearby parking ($15). However, I wish that I had more time to purchase souvenirs. For the most part, the gift shop was more affordable than anywhere else.
I mean its nuts, so worth a trip
Fun visit, but pricey considering an hour will cover it. $20 to park or take a shuttle from the city. Then pay entrance too.
It is what it is...I did enjoy the history and artistry of making the floats. That part was very good. I feel that the experience was overpriced based on what you got. Parking was $20. Admission about $20 pp. You got a free piece of king cake. Then you watch a 15 min movie of the process of making the sculptures. Then you walk through the warehouse, on a self guided tour, and see older floats and the various new pieces in different stages of development. But the warehouse has no air conditioning and it was about 95° outside, much hotter inside. It was very uncomfortable to say the least.Included in the admission fee is a shuttle around the canal areas but I didnt use. After seeing Mardi Gras world, I would not go again.
Great my kids love it!
Very impressive but it was pretty hot in the warehouse. One of the buses werent running and it was longer than expected wait
Fun self guided tour.Parking lot is overpriced city owned.
This is a must see place if you are visiting New Orleans. They have a short video explaining about the origin and relevance of Mardi Gras. We were given a guided tour around the facility were a lot of the prop uses in the previous festivals were kept. We also saw the preparation for the next Mardi Gras festival. They have a small souvenir shop from where you can buy anything with a New Orleans touch. I would highly recommend going to Mardi gras world.
If youve ever been interested in Mardi Gras this place is awesome. You get to check out old props and floats in the massive warehouse. Take the tour and you get to see props being made from scratch, refinished, and more. See floats in various stages of being built, grab a bit of King cake, and let the good times roll. They also do fun party planning. When I went we got the tour, plus a mask painting class, plus catered dinner in the fabulous warehouse next door that has a plantation set built inside. They also have a ballroom that seats 5,000 for your big events.
A fun tour, most fun if you don’t think about the price. It is $22 per ticket. You do get a small piece of king cake handed to you in a napkin though... the tour starts with a video for fifteen minutes or so which is interesting, but it would be nice if they raised the screen up another foot for people in the back of the room. It is really neat seeing how the pieces get made as well as how they re-use or re-purpose so many things. They have two head molds that they have been using for over twenty years. With different props on the heads they look remarkably different when they make a character from the molds. The five axis CNC is super cool too. It also turns out that they make the famous Chick Fil A cows as well as Dairy Queen signs, among about a million other corporate things. They also have a dozen warehouses which is super impressive. So except for some minor quibbles, I really liked this tour.
Great photo opp.Loved it.Self guided tour and tour host provided.Free shuttle bus provided. Saved money
Such a unique place to visit. Its not as large as I thought but you can legit spend over an hour here. They force you to get tours which isnt great but each little float is picture worthy. The river is right behind, which is nice as well. I wish there was a cheap food court or something nearby because Mardis Gras world is a bit out of the way.
It was very interesting and amazing! It was basically empty when we went of people which was great because I could see each exhibit without trouble. Worth a visit
Great place for the whole family!
This was our second visit. The first was on Algiers about 10 years ago, and then yesterday at the Convention Center area. What a great, educational and fun tour. So many floats! Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly, as was the shuttle driver. Well worth a visit.
We had a wonderful experience! The shuttle driver was very nice and his service was conveniently located from our hotel. A must see when vacationing in New Orleans! Overall, it was 5 stars!
What a place!!! Just right beside the waterfront. The place could be a bit more clean and organized. Thats it. But really enjoyed their eating place and pubs, underneath the dark sky with so many stars!!!
