I had one of the best experiences thanks to a male worker I think by the name Erick? He helped me find what I needed and supplied me with the correct books I’d need to make this semester a breeze. Thanks for being genuine and a real life saver when it meant the most!
The experience was great, with great customer service by a gentleman by the name of Erick. He helped me out with everything I needed, all questions I asked were responded in a professional manner, and helped with all my needs!
My experience at this bookstore was very short due to the costumer service. I was directed exactly where I needed to go as soon as I walked it by a helper by the name of Erick highly recommend him.
As a first year student and new to the college scene I came to the bookstore with my bf in seek for books i will need to assist me in this years semester and thanksto a fellow worker named eric I found exactly what i needed!
These people work less than 40 hours a week to be lazy. The people who work here are not helpful. I needed to purchase a book and pay with the option of a grant and they put me on hold 3 times and hung up on me. They knew I was calling back because they asked if I had been transferred..??? They couldnt give any suggestions or help me with anything.
Good collection of rutgers apparels
They sent my wife the wrong book and have been an absolute nightmare trying to get this fixed, meanwhile law school started already for her and she is stressed beyond belief due to the absolutely monumental incompetence of this place. Whoever manages this store is terrible at their job. We had to drive all the way from Virginia to Newark because of their mistakes on the other books. Do NOT give this place business, they are NEGLIGENT and do NOT CARE at all.
DO NOT SHOP TEXTBOOKS HERE. They allow you to order Used books, then tell you they’ve run out and charge you double for a New book. It’s a total scam.
What can you say about the university book store but that it is really great. :) Prices could be a bit cheaper though
Really good store but honestly just go to Walmart or shop on Amazon; itll save you tons
The bookstore is several floors and has kind staff. That being said, they are consistently overwhelmed and in a rush, and struggle to complete online orders. I ordered my books during mid to late August once all my professors uploaded the material and the order was not even processed by the first week of class. The wait times for lines are particularly ridiculous during the beginning of the semester, as much as an hour to even speak to a customer service representative. The books are overpriced (of course, get those somewhere else).
I wish the book store wouldnt assume that everyone will buy their books online...Barnes and Nobles should order at least a few books to put on the shelf. Especially for those who receive book vouchers. Its been a repeated inconvenience, to wait on an preordered book with an undetermined delivery date. I had an experience of waiting on a book for three weeks. Other than that, great customer service...always ready to serve!!
I wanted a beginners book on investing. I went to the finance section and didnt find anything. Instead of looking it up on the computer, she went to the same section that I was in and said there are none. Duh! I knew that.
This place is good it has good events for kids. But the books are mainly for college students. But they do have kids books.
If I could give this place 0 stars I would simply because of the store manager Wilda Silva. I was having a very hard time locating a textbook I needed for a course because everywhere I looked was so pricey. Being a federal employee, the recent government shutdown affect me significantly and textbooks were something I was considering avoiding. But, with all the reading required in the MPA program they really are required. Luckily I found the textbook I needed at the Rutgers Barnes and Nobel store. When I rented the used textbook, the price was $35.25, I even got a confirmation with that price. Then I get an email saying my book is ready for pick up and the final price was $50.95. I go to the store to ask questions and the Manager Wilda was the most disgusting human being Ive ever encounter. I ATTEMPTED to tell her my situation but she kept speaking loudly over me WE WILL GIVE YOU A FULL REFUND, THATS ALL WE CAN DO! I need the book for class and its nowhere to be found. I asked her to stop speaking over me and to hear me out and she said WELL, I GOT TO GO with so much sass and attitude. My problem was that Barnes and Nobel charged me more without notifying me. The most patient woman ever, Diana, helped me after Wildo walked away without even trying to listen to what I was trying to say. She explained that there is a fine print that states if used textbooks are not available they will provide you will new ones and the customer pays the difference. So I am at fault for not reading that carefully, but Wildo should take some Business Management classes because speaking over someone while they are speaking is unacceptable and using the excuse I gotta go is not enough. Rutgers Newark hired the wrong person. Diana should be store manager.
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND STAY AWAY FROM THIS BARNES AND NOBLE. IT HAS HOSTILE EMPLOYEES WHO DONT KNOW A DAMN ABOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE. SINCE WHEN DID BARNES AND NOBLE BECOME CONFRONTATIONAL!! I WENT IN WITH THE INTENTION OF MAKING A PURCHASE NOT TO BE STARED DOWN BY AN EMPLOYEE.IF YOUR FEELING DOWN AND WANT TO GET SHOT, GO THE SECOND FLOOR LEVEL OF THE RUTGERS BARNES AND NOBLE. THE BROTHER OFF THE CELL BLOCK WILL GLADLY OBLIGE! 7MAY18
Service is great thats the reason for 4 stars. The worst thing about the store is the hours of operation 9 to 6. And fridays 9 to 4. It doesnt help Fulltime worker/students.
Nice place Quiet, not high traffic at all. Great for work or study, wall outlets by every table
Shop for your textbooks anywhere but here. They consistently have the highest prices when compared to online sources or NJ Books. The worst is when one of the professors say that the only place you can get their book is at the campus bookstore because you know that you are going to have to pay through the roof to get the book. The rental system is OK but the online ordering system is highly flawed. There have been many times where I order a book and it isnt until a few weeks into the semester that they call and tell me they dont have the book. Thanks but I already ordered it online. Stay away!
Good place for textbooks, some have an attitude but thats fine
A sign standing at door advertised lowest price textbooks, which is sales puffing. Employees disagreed on discount percentages, and base prices. One text was full retail price and another revealed water damage. Cashier surprisingly bagged books in a Barnes & Noble bag, while never inquiring of Barnes & Noble membership which may have discounted drinks and novels. Hopefully this summer (off-season) experience does not extend into fall school session.
I was happy I was finally going to read and explore books, but we could not stay the restrooms were out of order. 😕
Good store but doesnt have a wide variety of books or other things.
This place is horrible. I got there at 8:38 PM, it was 30 degrees out and they didn’t let me in.They said it was closed, even though they are supposed to close 9PM. They should try to accommodate students who work until evening. I think this was a horrible injustice. Don’t buy your books here
The staff is always on point for course books and my personal reading pleasures. I am happy to have another option for books downtown Newark.
First semester here and I ordered a book from them online. At first I was supposed to have it delivered to my house. I ordered this book back on the 8th and had not gotten a resolution until the 16th.The store makes you run around in circles promising to do things such as call the publisher to find out where the book is before telling you the next day that they are not allowed to call the publisher anymore. Its ridiculous and they put me on hold when I tried to call them saying they would transfer me twice to someone who could help me. This ended with the phone hanging up on me and me having to call back twice before the same person picked up again, clearly uninterested in my problem.Ive tried both calling and going there physically to no avail.I was also standing in line and heard someone complaining about not getting an access code with one of the books to which the shop replied: thats our fault, we should have put it there but we cant do anything now, sorry. This bookstore is no different from any other college-leased one. Youre better off paying more money on Amazon or eBay for a reliable delivery. Would not recommend at all.
Some students that work there are not helpful. GREAT BOOKS
Poor service in the Starbucks cafe . They don’t accept Starbucks cards as it’s a “Barnes and noble Starbucks” They don’t accept Barnes and noble cards in the Starbucks store either. Neither clearly marked. Cups seemed smaller (like a grande is size of a tall). Rude staff 9.15am 29th June 2018
Good place to take the kids also have certain type of books I need
Very Quick and Convenient to find the book I needed.
Online and on the stores door it says they close at 7:00 pm. I arrived at 6:40 pm and the doors were locked, no employees in sight. They must close before 7:00 pm and this discrepancy needs to be addressed. I called in advance to make sure they would have an item I need immediately for class and now I cannot buy it.
The first floor is OK, but the second floor is a ball of chaos even after being open a year. Disappointing.
Organized, good books and school gear but is it pricey
The place is a mess during the first week of class but I had a perfectly fine experience. I ordered a book online a few weeks back and they had it ready when I got there so now complaints.
Always great book selection for all ages.
Prices are well over what other websites include. I have found a $20 difference for a lot of the books.
Beautiful people and good customer service, they are the best.
Great place to study and get a snack
Good merchandise store with friendly staff
They have a variety of everything that you could need there.
Customers treated great very helpful
I love the new location!
Warm and receptive environment.
Not a full blown bookstore
Not really quiet they don’t really have a big selection of books and the lady at the front desk gets mad every time you asked where a book is
New location is nice.
