Fantastic bookstore! It was my first time visiting today, after seeing a lot about them on social media. The store is well arranged and they’re very welcoming, eager to help with suggestions. I had a great conversation about books with Patrice, she recommended some great books. Safety protocols were in place, masks and sanitizer before entering. The prices are amazing too. I will definitely be going back. They have a great selection of art work too!

What a place! The most beautiful childrens books I have ever seen!!! Extensive selections on Black, Caribbean and Latin culture, religion, traditions, parenting, history, life and love. They also have wall art, sculpture and clothing. I purchased 2 gorgeous dresses by Amadou fashions. You can tell they are a gem in their community.

Incredible bookstore that is much more than books. It is everything you would want out of an indy bookstore. Selection is great and the people that work there are very knowledgeable and helpful. This is a spot I will frequent a lot more in the future. They also host what appears to be very cool events.

Source of Knowledge is a gem in the heart of Newark! Very pleasant and helpful owners and staff. Great selection of up-to-date books by black authors for adults and teenagers, as well as beautifully illustrated books for children. They also have a selection of musical instruments and artwork! If they dont have it, they will order it for you. Please support Black owned businesses. I highly recommend this business and experience!

Number 1 black owned bookstore located right in the heart of downtown Newark. The owner can give u a great rundown on any book sold in her store and she has books for everybody in ur AFROCENTRIC household. The service is excellent and the atmosphere is spiritual.

I have been going to this book store since I was in high school. Its awesome. Theres a book club and more activities plus art and decor for your home. You must visit the store for yourself to see how awesome it is.

First impressions are the best impressions. 1/2/21 was my first time at this bookstore. The store is beautiful, the owners was very nice, thoughtful and knowledgeable. I had the privilege of speaking with one of the owners, she personally gave me a tour. I will highly recommended you visit this book store and take your kids as well.

Their selection of BIPOC childrens books is extensive! What a lovely store and a great find! Their books are largely focused on Black authors and topics of the African diaspora. Wonderful collection of art, which though a bit pricy, could make a great signature piece in your home. The people who work here are very nice.

I loved this place, had been there several times to find some books I couldnt get at commercial places and even if I could I still would support this bookstore. Havent been here in a while once I start buying books again Ill go straight here.

One of the few and possibly the longest running Black owned bookstores in NJ. They recently expanded and have even more wonderful options to shop. They have a deep selection of classic childrens books as well.

It so funny when one reads reviews- they are always so varied and extremely one sided and biased. This store is fabulous. Let me explain why:1. They employ disabled persons2. The variety of black books and subjects is versatile and varied that it made me wonder do I read enough3. The level of kujichagulia, and principles of community are out of this world.4. The inviting smells of the beauty shop in the back was awesome5. The upstairs space was phenomenal as well. All owned by a sista.6. They frame all art work... in store7. Prices were comparable to other stores8. We stayed for almost two hours- talking to the proprietor and discussing art.If you are looking for sterile and un amusing go to Barnes and Noble but if you are looking for personable, inviting and warmth go there...

Awesome service clean atmosphere

My new home away from home. Purchased books for my daughter today and was blown away with their extensive collections of Africa American literature. From self help to biography to fiction/ non fiction. The owners are on point with their knowledge of the materials they have on hand and they have a lot on hand!

This is a great place to look for books. The problem was I couldnt decide on which book that I wanted. The staff was great they didnt pressure me. They let me take my time and look. But they were around if you had any questions.

The go to book and cultural store in Essex County

Been going here for a while for my books. Knowledgeable staff, great selection of books(not just urban novels!) although those are good too! They have Saturday morning reading and activities for children, book signings by authors of the books that they sell and the Art work is lovely! But what gets me is the ambiance when you walk in takes you to another place!

Poor customer service. I have visited the store twice and both times I was totally ignored I would never purchase books from this store. I will continue to travel to NYC to purchase Black centric books. #Blackdollarsmatter and I loyally support black businesses that behave in a professional manner. I could easily find most of the books they are offering online for less but Im a conscious consumer willing to pay a little more to support small business. This place needs to get its act together !
