The sales associate at Carmax went above and beyond. The process of buying my vehicle was short and sweet. When the vehicle was delivered to me it was dirty inside and outside I spent a few hours detailing it. Upon driving it on a trip I noticed a vibration at higher speeds I then contacted CarMax and scheduled a service appointment we shall see the outcome. This is my third vehicle purchase from CarMax the first two were flawless.

Would def recommend for anyone wishing for easy experience on selling their vehicle. I wasnt looking to haggle pricing either (and neither were they) which was completely fine with me. I purchased a 2009 maxima back in march of this year. price was fair for the year an mileage (91K) i’m glad i got the coverage plan added to the vehicle because it did have a few issues out of the gate i should have done a better job of checking the vehicle out before purchase but every issue i’ve had since purchase Carmax service department has fixed it. easy buying process no hassle very straight forward I just want carmax to do a little bit better of a job inspecting what they have on the lot a little bit better before selling other than that i would recommend for sure

This has been the worst car shopping experience ever! My car didnt even make it out of the parking lot the transmission was slipping. They took it to a garage they did not serve it at their place cuz they couldnt do it upon me picking the car up I asked for a copy of the receipt showing the work that the garage done they couldnt give it to me right then and there they said whoever was handling it was gone for the day. This is 2months later and still no information on what was done with the car and the transmission is slipping yet again.

Said they test drove the vehicle we were trying to sell and came back stating it was shifting weird and watched the guy not even move the vehicle.. said the same thing about a vehicle we were getting a quote for a couple years back and it had just gotten a new transmission a couple months prior. Dont waste your time trying to sell to them.

Through Robert Bunch I ordered 2 trucks shipped to Newport News. He was very helpful in explaining the shipping and selling process. We found a car online made an appointment was preapproved and drove 4.5 hours to pick up a car upon arrival everything went smoothly until it was time to sign and we noticed we were waiting for quite a bit turns out they had no idea where the title was and we were basically told there was nothing they could do for us. Unfortunately we used a rental to drive the 4 hours there and because of this car max we had to shell out 600 extra dollars to the car rental just so we could get home. The sales associate was very nice up until the end when we asked him if he could hold the vehicle he said he could hold it for a week and for us to call him to check in.

We were selling our car with no purchase intended. I actually thought the cash amount shown on line would be lower when we showed up, but it was not. While at CarMax I thought the time waiting was excessive, but in the end, very pleased with the outcome.

They never refunded my transfer on a vehicle I was interested. They told me I should of asked questions about the car before it was transferred. That is not a consumers job to know what you may be hiding on the vehicles condition. The pictures online do not represent the state of the vehicle and condition. Some of the vehicles are smoked in, damages you cant see online. The pictures online look really great to make it look like nothing is wrong. After having two vehicles ordered for transfer one vehicle was refunded of the transfer fee due to the vehicle smelling of cigar smoke and never disclosed to me over the phone, the second car one of the reps went to the manager to talk about the refund because the second vehicle had many scratches and discrepancies that was not disclosed online, nor was it disclosed with a car max rep on the phone prior to the transfer of the vehicle. The car max rep said the manager said the funds would be refunded within a couple of days but nothing was refunded. Had I known of the issues I would of not ordered the vehicle to look at to purchase. They still havent refunded my $199.00 transfer fee. Nice to see how they take advantage of people including veterans like myself to move vehicles around on others expenses to sell their cars. Hope that $199.00 we were never refunded serves you well.

We love our family trips to CarMax. We take our boys at least every 2 weeks because they love to look at cars. At CarMax were able to browse and no one is haggling us or trying to force us to purchase a car. Usually theres someone trying to make the trip more enjoyable for our boys by explaining car parts to them. They love it. It has been the best place to go especially during the pandemic because the cars are locked but they are disinfected whenever you want to look in one. Theres such a wide variety of cars that they get lost in the lot forever. Greta experience.

My scheduled Appraisal occurred within 14 minutes of my scheduled time. While waiting, I was thoroughly informed what was going to happen. The explanation was clear and easy to understand. The Appraisal, in fact, took place exactly as explained. The appraiser then explained what he was going to do, and I led him to my car which he proceeded to do exactly what he explained he would do. After the Appraisal, it took about 30 minutes for the printed appraisal. I then went to the Business Office to confirm the offer and provided the information needed to complete the sale. However, since I had other business with which to attend, I asked if I could complete the business transaction the next day. When I returned the next day, the buyer had already completed the sale with the Lien holder (bank), and it took about fifteen minutes to complete the forms and receive the check for the residual from the sale minus the pay off. All in all, the SMOOTHEST transaction I have ever experienced with a car transaction! Thank you, CARMAX... Im coming back soon to purchase my next vehicle from you!

Buying experience was easy and convenient. However, after the first week of using the car the check engine light came on. When I called to service the vehicle, I was told the earliest they could look at it was in a week. I had to call the service department multiple times to figure out what the problem was. I was informed that the check engine light was due to it missing a gas cap and that the car also needed new brakes. Fortunately, these aren’t major issues to fix, but why weren’t these things caught during their detailed inspection? It erodes my trust in Carmax, that they actually are giving you a quality product. I am still waiting on the car to be fixed. Parts have been delayed, (I understand these things happen), but I have never received a phone call giving me any updates. Overall we are very disappointed in our experience with Carmax and would not buy from them again.

She made the whole process very easy and stress free. She is an asset to Carmax of Newport News. The whole staff was very friendly. We love our new Ford pickup! DO NOT BUY THE WARRANTY UNLESS YOURE A LAWYER OR CAN AFFORD ONE!! The warranty will not be valid unless your lawyer enforces it on carmax. The car can kill you and they might consider an apology but theyll probably make your family pay for the funeral as well as the car times 10. They only want your money for a lethal lemon. No cares. Horrible customer service. Refusal to uphold EVERY WARRANTY LIABILITY. I hate carmax with every fiber of my being.

Quick and simple process. Updated my appraisal online, the next day was in and out of the office in about an hour, from verifying the vehicle information to check in hand. Having the title in hand and not having to coordinate a bank payoff made the process easy especially for Saturday morning, otherwise I would suggest going when your bank is open and available.

The service here was great! I only gave them four stars because the vehicle I originally searched for, a Honda Pilot, wasnt available. However! I did find a great 2018 Kia Soul that Im just in love with! Their warranty is good, too and you guys should check them out. Plus, the Sales Rep that serviced me, Kason, was just so wonderful, attentive and kind. He made my experience buying a car again simple and welcoming. I travel between Newport News and Williamsburg daily for work and havent had any complaints with my Soul! Thank you!

I sold my car to CarMax. Overall was a bad experience, I was given my quoted appraisal, but I had to wait for over 2 hours for seemingly no reason. I had an appointment scheduled, and the appraisal done ahead of time and was told it would only take a few minutes. 2 hours later I was rushed through paperwork and told to just sign pushing me not to read the documents. I do not recommend selling your car to this CarMax.

Beware who appraises your vehicle. Took our 2019 Traverse there 2 weeks ago and was walked through the whole process and received a fair offer. This week we took our other vehicle. Different appraiser this time around and were asked to go inside while they took pictures. Appraisal came back stating panel had been repainted, but I am the original owner and car has never had body work. Not sure if this is their attempt at mitigating cost with rising used car prices.

They beat out the dealers offer every time and unlike other places, they actually honor the online quotes from the site. On top of that there was no pressure to purchase a vehicle from them. I have brought a few cars from them and have always been happy. I recently brought a Camary from them and got home and was doing some fine detailing on it when I discovered a defect in the right front tire. I carried it back to the service department and spoke a customer service advisor a very pleasant lady named Kadijahdra came out to look and it and brought a Technical with her. After looking at it they agree to replace the tire. That my friends is why I keep going back. Good Customer relations.

Had a great experience, I tried purchasing a car online just to find out it was a manual I need a automatic so I just went to CarMax an was greeted by a lady she helped me switch everything out an called around with meNext, I found 3 cars I was interesting in couldn’t decide so she explained all the details about each car the mileage etc. Without a problem very helpfulFinally, I was able to view two of the cars when we were finished I finally choose the car I loved we went inside did paper work she had to leave early but she made sure I still had a senior sales president that was great like bad so I worked with Wes he was also helpful .Great people .

I purchased a car on 8/14. by the end of the month the car broke down. I brought it in for service (under warranty). They instructed me to take the car and bring it back on 9/6 for an appt. The car was inoperable. I was unable to do this!!! They kept the car and looked at it on the 6th. They called me to tell me that they would be sending it to the manufacturer for the diag and repair. For the next two weeks there was no communication. I would call and leave voicemails but they never called back. On 9/15 I finally got through to them. They hadnt moved my car. It has been sitting in their parking lot. I called corporate to let them know what happened. After dealing with someone for a few calls and emails, they agreed to let me turn the car back in and get a different car. A sales manager called me to discuss how it would work and stated he would call me back. He did not call back, and of course I have been unable to reach him. FIX MY CAR!!!!

Extremely horrible experience ever. ! My husband and I drove from another car max location (Potomac Mills). our appointment was at 8:30pm. We arrived at 8:00. There was a sales rep named Reyes. short hair beige flats. She was very rude. She kept repeating that the store was closing at 9:00. When she took us to the vehicle. She didn’t leave the key. My husband had to go back in the facility and ask her for the key. When she came out with the key. She said we had to return tomorrow we couldn’t test drive it. My husband said to her we arrived at 8:00. She kept going back and forth with my husband waisting time. We told her we came two hrs driving, we were planning to purchase the car (c300 Mercedes). She did not want to give us service, she wanted to leave at 9:00. the customer services was horrible. She stated that the customer policy states u cannot test drive after 8:30. My husband asked for the manager . After waiting 20 min. The manager never arrived. My husband and I left. Worst experience ever!

SELLERS BEWARE!! Got an online quote to sell my truck. Made an appointment to complete the deal. When I arrived, they told me their systems were down, when in reality they had no power. Ok, no big deal, things happen. Went back a couple hours later. The man in the business office asked me what I was there for. I said I was there to sell my truck, I had the online code, the offer and all the paperwork/information to complete the process. He asked me who my truck was financed through, I said Bayport Credit. He then tells me that he requires an actual letter from Bayport with the payoff. I handed him my most recent statement and I had hand written the payoff information with the current and 10 day payoff. He then tells me he can’t accept that because he needed something official from Bayport with letterhead and also he requires a 15 day payoff. He wasn’t going to accept hand written information. That is not what your website says, it says payoff information and account information which was provided via the statement which was an official statement with “Bayport Letterhead”. You need to update your requirements on your website with more specific information because you basically wasted my time, insinuated I was a liar about the payoff and ultimately, you lost a sale.

I found the car I had been looking for since Oct.2020. The whole experience was great because I actually purchased my car on mothers with my son right there with me and we even got to go the beach too. The staff at Newport, Va was excellent very professional and kind. The only downfall for me was that I had drive it home 1k away. But other than that my car is everything I wanted and more. I could not have asked for a better car buying experience. I had 4 trucks shipped in before I found the one for me. At no time was I pressured to buy anything that didnt meet my needs/expectations. I can’t say enough good things about my experience. I researched the kind of vehicle I wanted online and found so many options available on CarMax’s website. The site was really easy to use and had a lot of helpful info. The car I was interested in was in another state and I was able to have it shipped to the dealership near my house for free. I ultimately bought it, after a stressless and completely hassle free test drive and appointment with an associate. Everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful. The customer service is really good here! They’re quick with responses and respectful. I’m a little iffy about their products though. My fiancée recently bought a car from here and after no more than a week it had to be towed. I’m not sure if it’s just bad luck but I’ve heard similar story’s from people who have also bought cars from here. I say if you do it definitely test drive and bring someone who knows about cars. The good thing is that they give you 60 days to return it or report any problems.

Ms. Gina was amazing and SOO sweet and efficient with getting me in and out super fast with a cranky newborn. She clean and sanitized everything at the desk before I sat down, completed everything super quick and had me in and out the door quick! Ebony and the service team there detailed, cleaned, and filled up my new vehicle quickly and did a fantastic job! My husband and I are super pleased and will only buy vehicles through CarMax.

Once we got a buyers order for a loan, we found the car was overpriced. We asked to discount $1400 to meet the NADA value and they wouldnt budge. If they cannot work with customers for $1400 for a $17k car, especially during times like these, this is not for us. Also the CDC removed the mask mandate, yet the owner was adamant that we continue to wear masks, not helpful. Also our salesperson appeared to be working with another difficult person, so we were ignored mostly, we should have been passed to another salesperson instead of being put on hold constantly. The only reason we give 2 stars was how friendly the salesperson was. Really poor management through their attitude with masks, their unwillingness to work with us on a small price, and their personal feelings about masks.

I originally walked into the Midlothian CarMax and was assisted by Rachel Schaapman. She was welcoming, patient, and extremely helpful. We were not able to find the car I wanted so I was given her card and told to call or text her if I found something. She also said she would continue to look. Two days later I found my civic. I texted her after normal business hours and was met with a friendly reply as well as assistance to transport the car to my local dealership in Newport News. The gentleman who helped me over the phone with transportation was also amazing and named Will. When my father and I arrived at the dealership, we were greeted by Robert Bunch who I previously had bought a car from at the same CarMax. Robert was personable, explained every process, and got me into the car as quick as he could. Even though it took over an hour for the financial department to verify my loan which was through a different company, I still want to give an excellent rating. Robert explained to us what was taking so long and was patient with my impatience. Overall, it was an almost perfect experience and the reason why I have bought my last three cars there. I will continue to buy my vehicles from CarMax because of the positive customer service, friendly staff members, and constant explain action of processes to ease my impatience. Thank you CarMax for employing individuals like Robert, Rachel, and Will. They should all be awarded for the exceptional customer service they gave me.

Pretty good. The no hassle pricing is great. My sales person was responsive and the financial processes went smoothly. I would have given five stars but the car had some issues that I was told were addressed but were not, including several noticeable scratches. The car also had and still has a very odd strong interior odor. I plan to replace the cabin air filter and I hope that will help.

When I started this process I asked question about financing, as can I put my name on the title and my dad pay for it and was told no. My dad finished the paperwork and was told we could go do a test drive and finish the paperwork. That was not the case, we had to redo the finance paperwork and we were there longer there than we had expected.

This is my second purchase from the Newpprt News location. Jalen C. is the gentleman who helped me and he was AWESOME! I had my car shipped from North Carolina to the NN location and that only took 2 days. I was given a call when the car was ready for a test drive and I was so happy with the way everything worked out. I had my pre-approval before I showed up, so really all I needed to do was drive the car and make sure it was what I wanted and it most certainly was! My experience was fantastic and Jalen was extremely knowledgeable and kept me informed every step of the way. Now, I will say this just so you will be prepared.......they are REALLY busy! I was there for 4 hours. There were so many people purchasing cars while I was there it was a little nuts! But again, with that being said...Jalen kept me up to date with everything and I left Carmax with a beautiful car and I will most certainly return to Carmax when the time comes for a new car! You really cant go wrong with Carmax. Im extremely happy with my purchase!

2017-08-19 wife wanted to buy a vehicle, so I sent Charlie a text, he responded and we talked by text and or phone, he got the car that we found on carmax website, it was in Maryland, he put it on hold and transferred it to carmax in Newport News per my request, he told me that it needed a state inspection before we could test drive the vehicle, I text him today and he told me the car arrived last night and the state inspection was completed, we scheduled to arrive at 2pm, when we finally got outside to look at the car, someone called my name and told me that he was looking at the car, and he told me that Charlie told him that that car is being held for Howard (me), and then while my wife and I were inside the car, some other man approached the car and walked all around the car and my wife spoke to him briefly, that guy thought the car was nice, too. So, Charlie took good care of us, stepped away, so we could discuss and make the decision about buying the car. After purchasing the vehicle, the car was cleaned and a ribbon was placed on the hood of the car. I recommend Charlie Braman and he will definitely take care of you!2 years prior... Charles Braman was my salesman, he sat down with me, we had small talk, told him my situation and what I want, etc..., he got Carmax to appraise my previous car (for trade-in), their appraisal amount only last for 7 days, so I arranged to transfer a vehicle to Newport News, so I can test drive and possibly buy the vehicle, but the vehicle transfer would take too long to wait, so Charles Braman found a similar vehicle in Virginia Beach, I traded-in my previous vehicle at the originally-appraised amount, and I purchased the vehicle from Virginia Beach. Charles Braman would talk to me via phone/SMS (text message), and he still talks to me by SMS whenever I have a question about the vehicle after I purchased the vehicle. Also, Carmax recognized some scratches on the hood of the vehicle before I purchased the vehicle, and they asked me to schedule an appointment to get the scratches buffed out. When I scheduled an appointment, they sent me SMS text messages to my phone 1 and/or 2 days before my appointment to remind me of the scheduled appointment. I rescheduled at least once, and Carmax personnel was pleasant to talk to and work with. When I finally arrived for the appointment, Carmax personnel was very pleasant to talk to and work with, and the personnel that buffed out the scratches did the job, perfectly!!! I fully recommend Carmax. I got the car that I wanted. Thank you Carmax and thank you Charles Braman! Last but not least, I got the best interest rate on an auto loan offered by my bank (Wells Fargo). :)

Well biggest thing I did get the truck I wanted. The process was awful. I had pre-qualified for everything before arriving even verified Power of attorney at a different location where it took 3 trys to get the right one. Had my truck picked out still 4.5 hours trying to get all the paperwork done with them. I have been using them for more than 10 years and bought 4 to 5 cars with them but I may change next time.

Carmax sold me a 2010 Dodge Journey that I am unable to drive from day one when I purchased the vehicle the keys did not work so I took the vehicle back to get the keys reprogrammed while I was there I explained to the service department that I was smell antifreeze so they scheduled for me to bring the vehicle back all this happened within my 7 day return the vehicle back so when I took the vehicle in they kept the vehicle for 2 weeks and supposedly fix the issue then within 2 weeks of getting the vehicle back the engine and throttle light came on so I took it back once again they said they fixed the issue less than 2 weeks later the lights was right back on at this point I no longer want this vehicle they scheduled for the vehicle to be repaired once again they kept the vehicle over a month this time so I went and picked the vehicle up less than 24 hours after I picked it up it did not start so again right back in repair gets the vehicle 2 weeks later exact same thing vehicle will not start they said they fixed it. Ok now the warranty supposedly ran out as of now less than a week after I get it back it will not start again so since March I have not been able to drive this vehicle because everything Carmax supposed to have fixed is still a problem I am very no highly upset and will be contacting my lawyer and the news to report this unprofessional transaction and they will not do anything to resolve the issue but tell me I have to fix it I was never able to drive this vehicle so why should I repair it!!!!!

I looked for an suv on several websites and decided to use Carmax (their website is most user friendly). I applied for a vehicle online and got a pre-approval. I was informed over the phone my payment would be higher than the initial range on the website. I didnt like what I was suggested. I scheduled a test drive and worked with Travis. The vehicle I applied for fell short of expectations in person so I decided to look some more. Travis found me a full size SUV with comparable mileage and years. After some strong negotiations I was able to get my Nissan Pathfinder. The 4 stars is for Travis, my monthly payment ($150 more a month than I wanted to pay) gets 2 stars, and I give the dealership a 4 overall. They worked hard to get me approved so were cool.

Great staff! Don Knerr was my salesperson- he made the whole transaction a breeze. However I will never purchase a car at night- the next day we noticed the inside of the car wasnt properly cleaned & Im still waiting for someone from service to contact me about detailing my car. I am grateful for Vanessa in service, there were a few mechanical things that needed to be handled & she set up the appointment & it was taken care of. Please dont be like me too trusting & not taking an overall look inside your vehicle making sure its cleaned properly. I hope service reads this because as I said- I havent heard word.
