My wife and I took a regular hand gun safety course at the shop July 2nd. What a glorious experience!!!! Our instructor taught us how to stand, some common sense safety, hold the firearm and how to aim. He showed us how to shoot with dominant and non dominant hand, I finally hit the “X” consistently and my wife hit the target in all vital areas. What a class!!! We loved it. We talked about what we learned all the way home and we live in Richmond. The staff were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Thank you so much!!!

The range is great for small arms. The CCW course that is taught by Juan Bell is a well presented, very informative course. Especially useful in regard to the new and restrictive VA laws. I think is recommended for anyone that owns a gun, regardless if he/she decide to carry outside of home or not.

Based on other reviews I was unsure about going to this range. But I found the staff to be pleasant and helpful. I had a nice range experience. Being a woman of color and a visitor stopping through, I only had the reviews to go by. Very glad I saw for myself. Range time is by appt only, which might have helped alleviate some of the issues written in other reviews. Ventilation was fine as I could hear and feel air moving around. Overall good experience.

I bought a new H&K P30SK from here a few months ago. Since its literally a 5 minute drive from home, I practice here often. Yeah, the ventilation isnt that great as others have said, but its a smaller indoor gun range & gets the job done. If you love to shoot, you dont really notice the powder in the air after the first round downrange, because your focus is now 7 yards in front of you! The CCW classes offered are definitely worth the fee, if you choose to go that route. The staff here is great & loves to joke around (only when appropriate, this is serious business here!) so you feel like you fit in.

Great instructor! I took my private session, not knowing anything about the firearms. It was 2 hours session, but it went by quickly. Just today the gentleman named Steve sighted in an optic for me and I couldnt even force the guy to take anything for it. Simply said he appreciates my business. Range is okay, I suppose. Ventilation is non existent and lighting is pretty horrible too, with this taken into account I think the fees are pretty high. The other range I use locally has good ventilation, good lighting, electric cranks as opposed to manual, lets you use your own targets, rents eyes and ears free AND it’s $6/session cheaper and $100/year cheaper. That’s pretty huge. I think if you are going to charge a premium price you could atleast maintain your facility. Anyways, Staff here is excellent, the only reason I gave 3 stars.

I appeared here in September of 2019 with three of my friends. When we arrived, we were welcome with nasty faces from other customers and the staff themselves. We went to the place to utilize their range and the man was taking in an arrogant tone which led me and my African American Counterparts to take our business somewhere else. In 2020, in Newport News- Virginia, there should no reason for racial discriminatory undertones in an establishment where ALL people have a love for guns and may want to purchase. I have another friend who was turned around from the shop with the same nasty behavior. Unprofessional to say the least.

Decent small range, not my favorite place to shoot. Not sure how the back stop is made but I have been hit by bullet fragments twice from ricochets. Last time I checked you cannot shoot .50AE or 500 S&W there. Staff is generally friendly, on more than one occasion I have observed an older male staff member be condescending and honestly rude to anyone who he feels knows less than he does about firearms, as a 15yr LEO veteran and LE firearms instructor I can assure you there are better and friendlier ways to teach newbies about guns and safety. I’m not by any means suggesting folks dont go here, these are simply my observations of this establishment, for whatever it’s worth.

The Marksman offers the best DCJS training and instructors able to be had in the Hampton Roads area. I am an Infantry Officer who is transitioning to the civilian sector and the training that is given at The Marksman is military grade. They offer military equivalent simulators that are on par with weapon simulators I have previously used. The Cadre at the school are extremely knowledgeable, personable, and take the time to ensure any question you have is answered. My instructor throughout my course of training was Juan Bell, is highly recommended. The facility emphasizes safety first, and the training given improved my shot group substantially.

Lead poisoning is a serious thing and shouldnt be taken lightly for customers nor staff! As far as customer service well lets just say dont ask that question you think might be dumb because they will let it be known loud and clear that its a dumb question. Not a very good selection of firearms but enough to browse and possible make a deal I guess. If you happen to bring a firearm in the building please oh please for the sake of embarrassment it must be in an carry casee or rifle case. I called in April asking if we can either get a refund for the remaining months or at least let someone else use the membership – the answer was ‘NO’ and they can only offer a sappy $20 gift card! The way I see it, you already have our money, why not let another person benefit from my purchase???Needless to say, my husband and I will purchase a membership at another location when the time comes!I guess they get two stars because the staff is nice…

Dangerous range, I would not go there again if paid to do so. I had a year membership at this establishment but I chose not to renew it after being struck several times bye bullet fragments. When these events occurred I notified the range personnel and was usually just blown off and told it was Normal for an indoor range. After my year membership expired I decided to visit this range again a year later because its close to my residence and my wife and I had not been out in a while. I expressed my concern about being hit by bullet fragments to the staff before we were assigned a lane and said that i did not want a wall lane. There was only my spouse and myself on lane 4 wall lane and father/son group on lane 2. About 15min into shooting my wife steps up to shoot and before she can insert the magazine she is struck in the forehead by a bullet fragment from lane 2. She now has a large raised bruise on her forehead. There was one female staff member that went to check on her and offered her a tissue. After notifying the staff, about 5 min later someone came out to look around the ground for the round that struck her. His response was thats strange and after 30sec of looking walked away without so much as an explanation or an apology. Pretty much got the i dont care attitude. Now I understand that an indoor range has some risks but to be repeatably thumped by rounds is unsatisfactory and dangerous. I can understand being hit by casings every now and then jumping over the lane partitions but to have rounds bouncing back this regularly shows they do not maintain there backstops. Overall there staff was not helpful and there range is extremely dangerous. I would highly urge anyone to find another place to shoot.
