Sometimes I think I could never move out of Lexington because I only trust Auto Alternative. Colleen is the best I have seen or worked with. They always fix me up quickly, cheaply and professionally. Ive had mixed results most anywhere else, but Ive never had bad work done here. Sometimes I come here to have them fix a botched job someone else did, and wonder why it wasnt my first stop. They break down everything that needs to be done by cost and level of importance, so you know whats what, and what can wait, and even better, they usually have a few loaner cars so you arent rideless when you get yours fixed up. I cant recommend them enough, Ive only been there a handful of times but they know their customers well, and me by name.

Hidden gem in central Kentucky! When I call, they know me, my vehicles, and do basically everything the Toyota dealer would do for a fraction of the price. I used to live in Wilmore so the location was super convenient, but I will continue to make the drive for their service even though I live further away now.

I own an 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid which I purchased new. A few months ago the Hybrid (EV) system quit working and my mileage went to the 20 MPG range. I found Auto Alternative and Im glad that I did. They are specializing in Hybrid cars. Theres not many Ford Fusions Hybrid around so they had not worked on this model. That did not stop them from researching my Hybrid system and repairing or updating every part of the system at a very reasonable cost. Mr. Hawkins called me every day with updates on their progress. I took my Honda in for service on the AC. The employee who assisted me making my appointment and keeping updated throughout the process was Colleen. She was fantastic. The compressor was changed and I am now cool again. The mechanic did a complimentary inspection and discovered a few fluid levels were low/dirty. After checking my records I noticed I missed these somehow on my last service at another garage. Colleen was knowledgeable about the services, parts and duration of the repairs in advance. She was honest and straight forward. I will definitely be taking my CRV there in the future. Great experience overall.

Everyone was very helpful and courteous. Most of all the owner has 26 years of experience and was knowledgeable with our old Honda CR-V. All the repairs were detailed before the work was done, and only done after our acceptance. Very honest and hardworking people here. I had a great experience despite significant damage to my older Toyota solara, and the first major work I’d had to have done on a car. Year ago i was looking for a used car for my work (mail man). I was driving around and some how saw a 003 Honda CRV at this place (Auto Alternative). I had no idea about used cars.(still have no idea about cars) i didn’t know it was for sale or not. Went inside i talked to this gentle man Thayre. Car was for sale. And instantly Thayre explained all about car and he seemed honest, i trust him blindly and bought the car. Let me tell you this, it has been over year car is running great and no problem yet, so thank you Thayre.

My father has known Thayer for 25 years or so. The atmosphere here is great. The work they do here is wonderful.They explain and show you what is going on with your car. great prices and great work. Provided with a very comfortable couch and a beautiful cuddly cat named Cali. They even provided me with a loaner car so i could continue my day while they worked on my car. my car has 223,000 miles on it and still running strong thanks to these hard working folks. oh and even toys for the youngsters. Tire Discounters has super long waits and hard chairs, not the case here.

One day I cane here without an appointment to change my brakes on my Prius. There were no open time slots, but the manager came out and checked my car and spent ten minutes driving with me listening to the car. He gave me honest advice that it was early to change the breaks. Ive never even been here but wish I had. I fd up and took my Toyota paseo to another mechanic!!! BECAUSE auto alternatives recommended crown towing to come tow my car to their shop..BUT crown towing never answered their phone. So I got it towed to a different place, that I wont name and it was not good service and way too expensive. I cant wait to take my paseo to auto alternatives to get my brakes fixed

The check engine light in our Honda Pilot came on after only 1 day of our week long vacation. Since we were 10+ hours from home, I scrambled to find a local auto repair shop that could help us. Thankfully, Thayre and his team were more than accommodating. In fact, not only did they isolate the issue causing the check engine light to come on, but they discovered a radiator leak as well! On top of all that, they coordinated with the local Honda dealer to get a recall repair done while they had our car.There is no better feeling than finding a business that you can trust when you’re traveling and something unexpected happens. Fantastic and friendly service from the initial phone call through checkout. I was treated like family.When I called to make an appointment, Colleen was courteous and patient as I explained the issues with the car. When I arrived, Colleen checked me in, listened to the noises I had recorded, and gave Thayre, the owner, a quick overview. After introducing himself, Thayre then personally test drove my car with me.It took a while for the problem to reproduce, but Thayre, too, was patient and kept at it until we heard the noises. Once satisfied, he gave me his initial diagnosis and the level of severity. You know when you meet someone and they start talking about something related to their craft and you just know immediately that they know what theyre talking about? I got that feeling right away with Thayre. It was like getting help from a friendly, knowledgeable neighbor or the wise elder in your family. After the test drive, Thayre suggested a brake inspection since they were going to be in that area anyway and gave me a ballpark estimate. He then arranged for Dalton to give me a ride up the road.Once the car had been inspected, Colleen called, reviewed the technicians findings (Thayre’s initial diagnosis was correct!) and recommendations, and spent a lot of time answering all my questions. This call included explaining the cause of the primary issue I came in for, details of the proposed work, cost estimates, and whether each issue needed immediate attention or only needed to be monitored. As a result, I felt that I was able to make informed, cost-effective decisions about what to do. She accepted my instructions and let me know that I would receive status updates via text. Once the car was ready, Dalton picked me up at home and took me back to the shop (yet another reason to use Auto Alternative: pick up service).After an easy checkout, I had a great conversation with Thayre about good running tracks in the area in addition to getting more information about my car’s issues. We have been taking our cars to Auto Alternative for about 10 years. The staff has always done a great job on our vehicles. The front office staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. In that 10 year time we have had a few different Honda Accords, a Honda Civic, a Toyota Sienna, and a Toyota RAV4 serviced by them. Since we have mostly old cars, we have had both regular maintenance and major repairs done over the years. The staff do a good job of notifying us of things on the cars that will need attention soon, and when funds are an issue are very helpful in helping us to prioritize what to fix first.Having Loaner Cars has been a big help when one of our cars had to spend the day at the shop. And most recently they worked us right in when my daughters car had a dead battery that needed to be replaced. I recommend them highly. I have found them to be very honest, trustworthy, helpful, and more than competent in what they do.

My previous mechanic of 25 years died in 2013 and I have been going to Auto Alternative since then for both of our cars. I am particular about our cars, and I have zero complaints. Courteous, professional, highly skilled and always willing to take time to explain work that is needed. The pick-up service is very convenient and appreciated, although if they pick up one of our cars, I dont get to see the friendliest cat on the planet, Callie (sp?) who frequents the waiting area. I was in Nicholasville and needed an oil change so I stopped by Auto Alternative. I also had a question about my ABS system. The lady at the front desk was very polite and knowledgeable. In no time they had my oil change done and even test drove my car and checked the ABS. Luckily, it came back fine.I live in Lexington but I enjoyed my experience here so much that Ill be coming back for more car services in the future. Its important to me that the people who are working on my car actually have my best interest in mind and are not out to just get my money. I felt like the folks here really cared.

Thayre and crew have earned and kept my trust since 2003. Theyve maintained my 93 Accord (190K+, no breakdowns) ever since. When they added Toyota/Lexus, I added my 98 Camry (250K+, two breakdowns that were on me for choosing to defer spark plug and battery replacement too long). Then an 05 Highlander (115K+, no breakdowns). Read on for specifics. Auto Alternative takes care of all three for oil/maintenance/batteries, all repairs, and tires/balance/alignment.Excellent value over time: < $0.20 per mile for the Honda and only a little more than that for the Camry. Great customer service. Always willing to take the time to explain needed maintenance and help me to prioritize. (Safety first, things to defer and watch, and optional.) Accurate troubleshooting and diagnosis. Never pushy. Never an unnecessary repair. They inform me, and I decide. Usually things have gone perfectly but once when they didnt, Thayre and crew took extraordinary pains to make it right. Once he made a house call to tighten something that had come loose. I couldnt be more pleased, even to the point of deciding to consider only Honda and Toyota when I replace vehicles. Thayre has expanded to other makes, but theres nothing Id rather have that I can afford.

Thayer takes a personal interest--unlike the big dealerships--in the work his people do, and his goal is to get it right. Auto Alternative is a place I can trust to never overcharge, and to stand behind what they do. They have spanned the gamut on my cars--from fixing headlights, to tightening my convertible top, to overhauling an engine. I cannot say enough good things about the quality of work done here.

Took 2 vehicles to auto alternative this week. They were able to identify an ignition problem and fix within 24 hrs and were able to repair a complex brake problem on the other. Service charges were very fair. Will definitely go back for future maintenence and repair.

We brought in several of our CRVs here to be worked on. Theyve always given a fair price and took the time to educate me on what they were doing. When they could they would let us borrow one of their vehicles while ours was getting serviced. I have since moved out of state and have had some car issues. Taking it back several times for the same symptoms. The mechanics at Auto Alternative took 15 minutes of their time to troubleshoot things with me over the phone. Thats what I call customer service.

The guys at auto alternative quickly determined the real issue and repaired the problem which was much less involved than replacing an engine! Glad I took my vehicle to them.

I had a problem with my 95 Honda that my previous shop could not figure out. Not all shops know how to work on Hondas even if they say they do. I took it to auto alternative and they fixed it right away. The customer service is exceptional and they know what they are doing. Timing tensionor failed prematurely a year later They repaired it free of charge. Hows that for service. In all my Honda ownership this is where I go. I recommend with five stars!!

Weve taken our cars to Auto Alternative & Thayre since my 92 Accord came out of warranty, and theyve always provided excellent service at a fair price and have always backed up their service. My latest visit also demonstrated their character. My 2012 Infiniti G37 S Sedan had developed a horrible clutch chatter, rendering it essentially undrivable. It was just 3000 miles out of warranty, but, alas, the dealer and Infiniti refused to do anything to help me out. So, I took it to AA for a clutch and flywheel replacement. I limped down Nicholasville Road and left it at the shop for a conversion to a single mass flywheel. Now, heres where it gets weird. First, Thayre calls and says he cant find anything wrong with the clutch, this, after having struggling just to get the car to the shop. I drive it, and hes right! The clutch had miraculously has healed itself. The second, and most important thing, is that they could have taken my money, and I would have been as happy as a clam (I fully thought that I knew it needed a new clutch.). BUT, they didnt . They wouldnt charge for a repair that wasnt needed. An honest repair shop!!!! Hallelujah!!!

To say that Thayre, Nathan, Colleen and the rest of the team are top notch, trustworthy and that Ive been a satisfied customer for over 20 years would be enough for a normal review that I wouldnt hesitate writing or recommending them to all my friends and family, which I do. However, last week was an experience I wont soon forget. My daughters car broke down late one afternoon on BG Pkwy a long way from home and certainly didnt want anyone else working on car but Auto Alternative if I could help it.
