The other evening, I was walking with my partner after dinner at a local restaurant, and I saw a business that had their doors wide open--inviting us in. I didnt recognize the business at first. Then I remembered it!!! Previously, I used EBDCR, as a place to take my leftover art and office supplies, and other items that I had laying around that I didnt need anymore. So, if youre looking for something unusual, this is a place to go. You might find what youre looking for, and you might find something that you didnt know you were looking for for--like the red feathered headdress I found there. It was was a little tattered, but it looked pretty cool on my head. I asked how much it was, and it was only $2. So, I got it, and paraded around town with it on my head rhe rest of the evening. When I was a teacher. I was always looking for fun stuff to spice up my classroom. Teachers and get free stuff here!!! Can you believe it?You will never know what you find there. If you really want it--better get it--because it probably wont be there tomorrow. If you have too much STUFF, and you want to get rid of clutter, this may be a place where you can unload old treasures. Better call before you take your jewels there to find out what they need, and when their drop off times are.
So much great stuff! And a fun place to find unexpected treasures
I really like shopping here. The staff is friendly and helpful. Its a nice atmosphere where you can browse through the store and feel relax. The prices on items vary but at the most affordable.
This is the collective we need in our communities and our countries. People from all spectrum coming together to share educational materials is needed more than ever. I simply love this place!
I love this place. Theres always weird treasure to find. They consistently have felt, yarn, bits of leather, and other craft detritus, but regular visits can turn up all kinds of things, like hat boxes, antique sewing machines, large quantities of lace, etc. Its a good place to check first before you hit another craft store for specific items.
Amazing, what else do I say? This place is a craft and makers heaven.
Good use stuff art supplies cheap the staff is nice too
Great place to bring your clean, interesting reusables: fabric samples, old postcards, extra beads - they’ll be resold for a pittance to artists and creators who need materials.
This place is fantastic for getting all manner of truly inexpensive art supplies & other ephemera or crafty things and decluttering art supplies you are no longer using. win-win! there are also books, paintings, computer equipment, multimedia art and the supplies necessary to make multimedia art, wallpaper, fabric, cassettes, CDs and video tapes you thought you would never see again, like straight from the 80s!! You never know what you might find here and you might find something you didnt know you needed until you saw it here!! this place is a delight to the senses and a dangerous place for a hoarder to go, but delightful if youre trying to unclutter . highly recommend for anyone who is running a day-care, a teacher, an art teacher or a craft enthusiast. there are also a number of great places to get wonderful food in the area. I am always thrilled to visit this area & this cute neighborhood, not to mention it is deeply satisfying to know there is a successful place to take things that are perfectly good to be reused by somebody who actually wants them and the prices are very very affordable!! Perfection in a store. ADA compliant but no disabled parking as far as I could tell. The drop off is around the back so pull up to the back if you are trying to drop stuff off for reuse!! Wish there were more places like this everywhere.😊😊❤❤❤
This place is abusive towards its workers. They used the pandemic to lay off their entire staff and hire a new one at a lower cost. There are better places to buy garbage; I hear Berkely has a place called Reuse Arts and Crafts thats pretty okay
This is where you want to go if you have a fun are project in mind. Or if you want to get 200 egg cartons. Or maybe you need some old maps cause your phone is in the shop.. Perhaps you dont have an art project in mind, but rather want to have the tactile sensation of running your hands through two separate bowls of assorted beads.
This is an AMAZING place for teachers, for artists, and for any green, environmentally-conscious creative people with ideas they would like to bring to fruition. Definitely a terrific place for folks who have more ideas, than they have money! I ADORE this store! Discounts for teachers, too! Almost anything you can think of, can be found here!
BOYCOTT THE DEPOT FOR CREATIVE ABUSE!I read the oaklandside article which was titled”why did the east bay depot lay off its staff?” It was an amazing repeat of history. Twenty years ago, I was working at the depot and we experienced similar abuse by management. We also had dreams of a place that was more equally run, safer and more helpful to the community. We tried to organize a union with the IWW. Management was ruthless and I must say cruel to some of employees. Especially more vulnerable people. I never shop there and i urge everyone to boycott them until they change their bullying, dysfunctional management.
Really neat place, I love the idea of reusing supplies for art! I wish we had more of these on the East Coast.
This is about the coolest place on the planet if you are someone committed to saving the planet. Make what you need with very low-priced items that could easily have gone to landfill.Recently I made one of my young adult daughters a professional looking reusable lunch bag that she takes to work religiously. I probably spent about two bucks. My other young adult daughter wanted me to make her a bag, too, but she wanted a laptop bag. Im almost finished with it and she loves it.I always feel like Im in on a secret when Im in there. The culture of the place is quirky-fun, with great employees who are definitely in on it all.
I love it here! And its always pretty cheap! I definitely recommend! Please OPEN SOON! 😭😭😭🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🤗
Lovely concept and the most friendly staff
Great deals for teachers. Check for their green Ed center system its awesome. This place is a wonderful place for anyone who is an artist. I get inspired every time I go here. Think of a thrift store for artists.Staff is not overly friendly but they are helpful and do a great job organizing the space and getting people through so huzzah.I love coming here.
Went shopping Saturday first time after reopening. Very disappointed with prices and merchandise. Prices not affordable for teachers and starving artists. Hope store goes bacl to where it once was
Makers Heaven! Bethany is amazing! I could just spent a whole day there. I made it in time to make a Valentines day card at the Makers table. Just Get over there! This place is just Fantastic! So many different mediums to inspire your every project idea ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I have a soft spot for this place from my days is a teacher. They always have pens, pencils, and who knows what else. I love going in here just to see what they have to offer, as things change with the donations they receive. Its a great place to drop in for 10 minutes when youre in the area.
So much great teacher stuff! Though I wish they went through and checked the paint offerings, because many were dried up and useless. Some things were mislabeled so you really have to go on a search for what you need. Great place to donate random crafty home goods anyway!
Lots and lots of items. Good attempt at organizing could use a little more. Great free deals for teachers!
I love shopping & browsing here! I can spend hours here! Its a Creative playground! Although I feel it has become way too overpriced over the years and depending on who is at the register you may or may not get a good deal. But overall everyone is friendly and helpful. Ooh and NEVER ever put stuff down after paying -to load up your car- someone will snatch it up while your not looking.
This place is like one big treasure chest! I love to pop in and see what cool items I can find. The store is organized well. The staff are all super knowledgeable and friendly. I can’t help but tell everyone about this gem.
Its always fun to see what the East Bay Depot for Creative Reuse has on its shelves. The selection varies, but theres almost always something I want to take home. This trip I found recent knitting magazines full of patterns and a couple of seeing books that I couldnt live without. There were several skeins of beautiful handspun yarn there, and I hope those find their perfect home!
Open Saturday and Sunday 12-6 now since the shelter in place
If you like a little mess, getting your hands dirty, or a person who likes good deals, YOULL LOVE THIS PLACE! Without the power of the internet, I would have never found this place! Its a great place to donate used/gently used items you think artists would need/want or teachers in need of supplies. It is also a great place for a normal person to find hidden treasures and trinkets. Basically, you can find everything you can think of here, or at least find the parts to build that thing you are thinking of. I believe it is all volunteer run which is nice because that means they all want to be there and they are all very nice about it. This place may not look like much, but I would suggest not judging it by its cover because there may be buried treasure inside.
I both donate and buy things. Its great to give away art supplies that someone else might have a better use for. Yesterday while perusing the bins came across a pack of pristine library check out cards - so its also like archeological dig back in time.
Ive been going here for years and have found incredible things. It is random so if you have some specific you need, you probably wont find it. But hey, I happened to need a cheap carpet for a project the other day and happened to stop in - low and behold they had just got a brand new 8x11 carpet in for $30! I snagged it! Thats what happens here...totally random but amazing.
Incredible place to spend a little time, Ive found some really cool things in there and the staff is so kind. Their Awesome sauce!!!
Love this place! I never know what Im going to find but I know Ill always find something I want. If you havent checked this place out, do yourself a favor and come explore. Go in with an open mind and you wont be disappointed.
You wont find what you want or need. Youll walk out of here with some National Geographic magazines, a bag of wine corks, some pink yarn, a 70s Christmas card, and a half tube of blue paint. And the collage you make will be fabulous.
Today I saw the sweetest sales lady get snapped at by a man and his snappy fingers. She calmed herself in the seconds it took to look up and say, you dont have to snap at me. The guy realized how horrible his behavior was, didnt apologize, and then laughed in her face. She was so graceful and professional as she helped him find something, though he did not deserve it, and I was incredibly impressed. Thanks for the lesson in grace today
You can always find something odd and wonderful here, at a surprisingly affordable price. In the past, Ive seen bolts of silk tie remnants, huge bundles of leather scraps, glass slides from museum archives, and stacks of blank greeting cards. This nonprofit mix between a thrift store and a craft store is a must-see for anyone interested in visiting either kind of store.
Always find what Im looking for, plus usually something else. Worth checking in frequently as you can as things change daily
A great place to find supplies for a DIY or art project and a great place to donate old supplies you dont need anymore.
The sauce for any size containers, thousands of weird vintage photographs, various textiles, used paint, broken jewelry, MORE CONTAINERS. My junk heaven, friendly and helpful staff, PRICES THAT NO OTHER THRIFT HARDWARE OR DIY RESALE STORE CAN EVEN TOUCH. Walk out with two giant boxes of your uprooted loot and pay like 15 bucks?! The only bad thing is how early they close but too awesome to knock off a star.
Awesome little thrift shop in Oakland. Its a little messy inside, but half the fun is hunting around the store for all the quirky little oddities. Theres lots of arts and craft supplies, a section just for teachers. Great sport for crafting on a budget or just browsing, Im sure youll find something interesting!
My daughter loved this place great resource for art and DIY projects and recycling. We would love to have this in upstate NY
Great idea, well executed, I hate putting stuff into landfill in these guys take a lot of stuff that teachers can reuse. Check the website to see what they are accepting, they get full. Great store for arts items as well.
Need Something For A Creative Project?? Re-Use!! Excellent Eclectic Collection of All Kinds of Stuff! School Teachers This is the Place and You Get A Discount
One of my favorite stores in the world. Get used but still functional (or if youre lucky, completely new!) art, craft, and generally useful supplies for dirt cheap.
A wonderful place to find reusable gizmos and doohickeys to incorporate into your arts, crafts, and other projects. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Fairly inexpensive for most materials and items.
They have a mishmash of art and project supplies for those quirky little ideas that keep you up at night making your next creative piece
Funky source of cheap, often odd, art/school materials — including toilet paper cores and dead markers! Lovely hippie vibe.
Love it here! You can find the most random stuff for so cheap. The staff is a bit sassy- but in a good way.
This is a fun store. Filled with hundreds of things for artists crafters collectors . Buttons bows old magazines always fun to read. I love to go just to see the ever changing shelves of unique interesting useful supplys. One mans junk is truly another mans treasure here!
This is a great place to take off your brain guards and wonder thru with the mind of a curious child. Who knows what youll realize youre ready to upcycle?
I really appreciate a store like the reuse depot because it is the kind of place that we need in this throw away age. The store collects items from donations or other means, and curates these items for sale. Some items seem more expensive than they should be, others seem like a bargain. The excitement is that the store offerings change daily and you just never know when you might find that little doohickey that you never knew existed, but you need in your life. Most things can have a second life as part of an art project, as a historical artifact or just as home decor. I would be sad if this place ever closes down.
Awesome selection of stuff waiting to become other stuff. If you craft, theres a good chance they have something you can use.
Fun place to look for craft supplies, odds and ends. More of a place to buy 30 empty egg cartons or a mannequin arm than a place to find new furniture. Discounts for educators.
Wonderful funky store full of cards, books, jewelry, paper, envelopes, knickknacks, picture frames, wrapping paper and most importantly things teachers need. Its a magical treasure hunt each time you go!
At some really cool smelling incense from Israel there, for a dollar$
Love this place. This is where I go when I have time to kill and just want some fun. I cant wait to take my crafty niece.
Lots of inexpensive treasures, especially art works of various kinds, lots of fun browsing the store
Best for art supplies. The Circle of Stuff: donate stuff, go in and buy stuff, repeat. Heaven for teachers who have a mini cycle of Stuff in our classrooms. Sorry for being too highly theoretical.
This is a good place to get old craft items. They have a good selection of yarn for cheap. Theres also a huge cheap record selection. If youre looking to wade through lots of stuff to find a gem, this is the place for you.
Wonderful for artists on a budget This place is great but greater some days more than others.
I love it here. lots of everything and anything for art projects also jewlry and collectibles to. Mostly inexpensive. I love the displays .Its always a surprise .The store changes constantly as merchandise arrives!
This place is really cool. Glad it exists. Interesting treasures and useful supplies
Really enjoy shopping here. Inventory constantly changing, great spot for teachers to stock up on supplies super cheap!
So amazing place for hand crafters a d teachers
I love that this place exists. I wish I gave them more money.
This place is a treasure trove of all sorts of stuff. Lots of new things come in constantly. Great for teachers.
This place is magical! There is a treasure trove of vintage items as well as a fantastic little fabric area. The staff is amazing!
Excellent deals to be found. Its always fun to see what they might have next. From eclectic antiques, so surplus stationary, photographs and so much more. They give discounts to educators too.
Some of the best deals for cheap art supplies and weird stuff. I bought a cat skull the other day for 6 bucks and they had toy pianos for 10 bucks. Free stuff for teachers!!
As a new teacher and artist in the bay area, I could not have been happier about stumbling upon East Bay Depot for Creative Reuse. They have a great selection of random things, and considering the amount of stuff that they carry- its pretty organized. I have found a few gems in terms of art supples- oil paints, gesso, screen printing ink, and more that would otherwise have been pretty pricey. I also got a set of yogurt containers and lids, a bunch of matching cylinder tins and a whole bunch of bamboo skewers- not otherwise valuable, but super helpful for my classroom!Anyway, this place is great, and Im really glad theyre doing what they do here in Oakland.
Best place to find ideas, as well as whatever else you didnt know you needed, until now. Great place, great people. An East Bay Institution!
If you are a crafter or artist this place is your dream come true. Their inventory varies day to day, but mostly they have a little of everything. They price things to move and the staff is very friendly and willing to negotiate.
I love this place so many awesome knickknacks, its just the cleanliness of it
Such a fun place to browse to get your creative juices flowing! Youll find so many unexpected items and naturally wonder, What kind of art can I make out of this?
Visit here regularly. Surprisingly organized for this type of outlet - they even rotate displays in the front. Have to willing to sift and dig, but youre bound to find something that inspires you.
Love stopping by the store they always have something new inside
Great staff, good vibes. Donation process was very smooth :). Loved this place!!
Great stuff! But it would sell even better if bin labels matched contents, and contents were more orderly.
Interesting place was lots of supplies for mix use.
Be patient and you can find some amazing items. Love that you are able to give items a new home/use.
Interesting place, but beware of false pricing. I came up to the counter with two books, clearly labeled in the books section as $1 for paperbacks and $2 for art books. Was told at the counter that it would be $7 for the new art book (not new) and $3 for my trade paperback from the 90s because it was a bestseller. Clerk was extremely rude and wouldnt acknowledge that she was upcharging on the spot. Apparently everything, even labeled pricing, is up to whichever person is behind the counter.
Open Friday to Monday.
This place is great for donating or finding used or surplus craft&art, office, school, organizational supplies and more. The staff is friendly and theyve preserved the old thrift store feel that is becoming rare in Oakland where used quickly becomes expensive vintage.
I love this place because its so conducive to impulse buying - the thing you like probably wont be there tomorrow, or ever again!
Nice place to find unusual things for cheap. Would be super helpful if they posted the weekly donation list to the web.
The depot is a place to go you have a creative bone in your body you find something there to be creative with and for good price
Great place. Find just what you need at a fraction of the cost and the idea of reuse is great!
This store is awesome! Halfway between a hoarders house and a thrift shop, its great for artists, crafters, and those who enjoy sifting for the diamond in the rough.
Great resource. Reduce/reuse/recycle embodied. Lots of FREE resources for TEACHERS!
This is the greatest store I have ever been in. If you like hunting for treasure, this store is full of the most wonderful and eclectic items I have ever seen.
Best place to find yarn. I have found incredibly nice yarn that would normally be too expensive here at a decent price. Also you can find other cool things there too.
Great place to browse and find all kinds of recycled or 2nd hand materials. Great for teachers or creative folks.
If u have tome to hunt and peck u can find some awesome things here. And alot of great fabrics
I find something everytime i shop here including the odd and unusual. For the artist this place is a treasure trove of items and prices way below reasonable cost. 5 + rating for this. With a zero degree of difficulty, arrogance being a 10, the staff is surly and unfriendly no doubt it stems down from upper management. But nobodys perfect.....
Love this place. Always some useful craft supplies and pieces to recycle.
