Excellent place to shop for food and cook food. Store well-organized and the cashiers were helpful. Plenty of places to park and plenty of areas to go in and out of the parking lot. Its best to go shopping Monday through Thursday in the mornings
They have a great meat counter. & their produce department is pretty great as well. Basically theyve got everything you might need at reasonable prices... except pet supplies like puppy food. The staff is very nice in spite of a language barrier
There is some sort of scam going on with their breakfast counter. All breakfast prices are listed on menu as $6.99. Over two visits I have left without breakfast. The first time I was simply told they had no eggs, which seems a ridiculous thing to be told in a grocery store with a refrigerator full of eggs. This time is was told the same, but I could buy eggs for $1.50 each. This means that 4 of 5 breakfast items actually cost $9.99. Thia means that there is one of three things going on. 1) this is intentional deceptive advertising on Cardenas part. 2) that an employee is charging $1.50 per egg and pocketing the extra or 3) discrimination because I am an Anglo.
When they first opened the prices were great, plenty of staff and a good variety of fresh meats in the deli. Now they charge $5 for a box of Coco Puffs, have three people behind the counter at the deli and the quality of their meats has gone down dramatically. I used to ask them to get what I need from the back. Now they tell that what I see is all they have (yea right, but ok). So now I ask them to pick through for the piece that looks the best to me. And let me tell you about those nasty attitudes those girls back there have... boy! I just may go back to Los Mexicanos where my mama used to shop at in the 80s.
Bought a package of steak, got home opened it and the meat stank, was very disappointed. The good thing is I had no problem getting a refund.
Lots of prepared authentic meals, great selection of Mexican products. Id be surprised if they didnt have what youre looking for
Good and authentic varieties of Latin American foods. Groceries are competitively priced but, it makes up for their good quality meats and vegetables. Shopping here is somewhat of a nuisance due to lack of customer safety. Public intoxication is a problem in this establishment.
Limited, shared free parking.Cardenas takes after Mi Pueblo. Same layout as the previous grocery store selling produce, bakery, grocery (rotisserie chicken, beer, laundry detergent, coal, ice, etc.), deli items, and hot Mexican foods.Friendly and helpful staff members. Be kind and not so bossy, theyll treat you nicely :-)Keep your receipt because sometimes security may ask to check your purchase. Sometimes they missed the time when you were paying. Anti-theft measures, and theyre just doing their job.Check your mail for their weekly newsletter to see whats on special for the week. Some items are the same price as Safeway.Early morning is less crowded, but busier during lunch and dinner hours.Toilet is usually clean and open for customers.
Great market. Come here daily. No parking and too many people.
I went in this market to buy fish and shrimp this evening. I was discriminated against in the most obvious and rude way.My number was 60.. I stood in line almost 20 mins and when my number came up, a guy jumped in front of me with number 57. Which was fine he didnt hear them or walked away thinking he had more time before they called his number.Once she finished helping him she went back to the number station and pressed the button to move on to #61. I immediately said in spanish Im #60 your skipping over me. The lady looked me in my face and gestured oh well. I looked to another employee and she did the same thing and even went to the bottom to move on to #62.Thankfully their was a guy in line who I asked to traslate. They didnt want to listen to him either..but thankfully stopped a employee who was cleaning the floor to help me.I will never return to this place for anything! Id give them a negative 0 if I could. Someone should tell the old ladies in the meat marketIts 2021 and discrimination is old news.
Love the house made salsa.
Service is pretty slow but they have good stuff in there
Great store that carries the best Mexican products. Every thing is easy to find. Their deli is outstanding as well.
Terrific selection of produce and meats at excellent prices. Also a full bakery and hot food to go.
I like to go for the meat and produce. If not for the difficulty parking, I would give it 5 stars.
Didnt like the pricing. Went for big cookies. Sign says .89 each. There are 2 in a package & the package is not .89. Thats misleading.
I havent been to this market in years back then it was called me pueblo. The store hasnt changed just the name has. Its its got a great selection of different foods I like variety its got food thats cooked and in deli like style to go they have spicy chicken spicy BBQ ribs refried beans rice ceviche you name it pastries forever endless good. It even has meat already cut if you want to take home to barbecue yourself Im a Mexican style way. In Western culture weve always cut against the grain on the meat with the Mexican community they usually cut with the grain which makes it so much easier to eat its like string cheese theyre going with the tendon no matter what kind of meat it wont be tough always when you go with the flow things will be much easier if you apply that in life I can see that and in their work I see a difference in just the way we prepare food sometimes how we can make it hard for us I hope we have to double cook something to make it soft and you can just go with the flow of things I dont know but it sure makes a lot of sense to me when I see it in food. Food is always been something I understand well just like music and you can let me watch one time how you make something and I will replicate it. Im fantastic cook I pick up on things fast and if I cant exactly replicate it it means that theres something that I dont quite like in it so I will do something to make it my own. Anyway thats up the subject but I love going to supermarkets I love cooking but nobody likes to eat prepared foods here at the house or home cooked meals gosh I would be so happy to make home cooked meals everyday. My moms and are older years and she doesnt want to eat much I dont understand why but maybe I will when I get to that time.
Great place for fresh produce and prepared food.
Very helpful ND friendly staff wide selection of groceries and baked goods...also got cooked meals ND delicious BBQ ..chicken and ribbs always ready...Id say this is an awesome fixture to our area ND Im proud to have this store in my neighborhood
They got some good cooked meals..delicious
Very crowded only 2 checkers stood in line over 40 min 🙄 for 5 items
The grocery department is lacking to say the least, there were two heads of lettuces left and one was brown. There was only one kind of tomatoes & they were Not red but discolored and very hard. There was no paper towels or disinfectants to clean the cart, they did have handsanitizer but thats it. Also, you have to leave your shopping bag at the front door, this is the only supermarket that is doing this!
Delicious 16 piece chicken dinner with beans, rice, tortillas and salsa $20!! Great quality, great prices, amazing food ready to eat! Great selection of produce, salsas, cheese, meat.
Good mexican food get you some
Love this I discovered it in Riverside CA three years ago need I say more its been my #1 grocery store.
Very rude customer service instead of saying how may I help you, I receive what do you want? RUDE MUCH!!!!Purchased 2 2-liter soda that were advertised for $0.99 however was charged full priced. Once I asked about it they said you had to buy 5 pointing to very small print. No one is going to see that. Also another item purchased said 0.89 and argued me down saying no these are 0.99 when the whole shelf said 0.89!!
I usually like going to Cardenas early in the morning or late at night, because that’s when you can shop really quickly and not get stuck in the long check out lines.
I liked going in picking up some sweets!!!
Nice Selection of Authentic foods. Beautiful avocados. Perfectly ripe after a couple days. Get some!
Great store & the tomalies are really good.
Great mix of Hispanic bodega and regular supermarket. They have what you need most of the time, even in the current crisis. Reasonable prices. They even make their own tortillas in-house. Have Mexico-sourced stuff you wont find at Safeway, like 33 oz bottles of lime juice for under $2. Also lots of Latin American specialty frozen vegetables, if youre looking for that kind of thing in addition to the usual American products.
The store has a variety of items for parties-all kinds of dips and chips.
A drive away from my home. If you are looking for any Mexican groceries, this place has it. Crowded during holidays and hard to find parking space at times.
Very good affordable price on the Mexican bread mi tierra overcharge for the Mexican bread
Went In there with my wife nice clean place fresh produce got some cookie fill with pineapple taste very good
Customer service was Good...
My favorite local market. Tasty menudo every weekend!
So much hot sauce...
My first time here very clean store, everyone was friendly. A knew grocery store for me to shop. I love the one in Oakland as well.
Really bad service, all employees have very bad actitude,
Clean and the food always fresh!
I dont know if they like black people coming in there to shop I got that vibe but overall it was an okay experience
Great place to shop groceries
Long lines
People beware, these guys are scammers, they will over charge you extra for items and also they charge you taxes when you use your ebt and won’t refund your money.I will file a lawsuit against this scammers.
Discovered it because they sent me a flyer. Clean, has everything I need and more (read sweet bread and snacks).
Worst store ever
Always great prices in fresh meats and produce.
Everything is ok, the only thing I dont like there is when you try to get something is no prices and some time is nobody who can help you
Nice store, but the parking lot is full of beggars and people trying to open cars. They need security in the parking lot.
Very low prices compared to main stream markets. Very fresh fruits and vegetables. The meat selection is vast. Prepared food rivals any Mexican restaurant in taste and prices. Authentic Mexican experience!
Great customer service
I find everything I need; very cleanGood customer service even some cashiers don’t speak Spanish ; good prices
Horrible Service Here...Most of their staff treat people other then their own less than...There should be a overhaul of their male security staff who feel it is Ok to use physical gestures to intimidate female patrons (of other ethnicities or otherwise)Furthermore their staff should be aware that people of other ethnicities are also multi- lingual and should watch what they speak in their native tongue because you never know who understands. Also not the most clean.Fresh produce is the only thing worth going here for and that can be a hit or miss.Go To The One in Hayward... Youll be Happy You did!
Customer service has gone into the toilet. Wanted to keep supporting them (have since it was Mi Pueblo) because they’re neighborhood. My bad.
Great space with incredible selection.
: When you register, we ask you to provide certain information, which includes your email address,
Cooking up mexican food, go here for the things you need, also, food to go. Long lines but they go fast
Cardenas is one of those stores where you go in one day and you have an amazing experience and then you can do in 3 days later and the service can be terrible. Theres always a good sale going on and there is a variety to choose from.
The best!
Love it here! They do t have everything other grocery store has. They have a lot of Mexican style foods and treats. I go here to re up on necessities, like fruits, veggies, meats, cereal snacks etc..
Great quality, great prices, amazing food ready to eat! Crowded but only because its so good. Cant wait to go back for more rice, beans and tamales.
Big U.S.-style supermarket with bilingual staff. Great place to enjoy Latino culture and food - both raw ingredients and deli offerings. Counts as a visit to a foreign country at considerable savings over air fare and etc.
Used to be Mi Pueblo, but recently changed over. It still contains the great bakery, meat counter and cooked meals areas, but everything in the store has been expanded. Theyve also hired a lot more employees that keep the store well stocked and clean. The only complaint that I have is that many of the employees speak very little English. Granted, its a Mexican supermarket, but its still in a mixed neighborhood and its the only real supermarket of its kind in the area.
Excellent canitas meal deal for $28.99
Everyone watch out for Coronavirus!!!This is the New hot spot!!! Lots of people getting infected
My favorite authentic Mexican store. A buffet length of ready to eat hot foods, butchery, fish selections, dairy counter, and a fresh produce section.Dont complain about customer service here because their employees are hard at work cleaning, cleaning and yup, you guessed it more cleaning. I prefer cleanliness over a fake hello anytime.
The department of meats and cheese& sea food should have separate lines with proper #s is too congested. Have manager observe that process. As customer I will prefer more organization into that and more friendly dispatchers.
We shop here almost every week, the prices much lower then local supermarkets, specially vegi and fruits. Meat and poultry always nicely trimmed, and properly drained, great quality and price. One small problem here in the store, on September 26 by 10 A.M only two person at cash register worked. I spend 15 minute in the line.
Bad service they dont have enough cashiers and there are long lines to pay
The food and produce its good but its a little expensive
The market is lovely, the hot food smelled delicious and the store was clean. My only issue is the clerks working throughout the store and at the checkstand were not friendly at all. A simple hello how are you will always suffice.
Everything about the store is great except for the fact that none of the employees look happy. A sea of sad faces. Also they need to work on labels. I bought a rocky road bar and it was advertised as ¢79. However it was a Reese candy label in the wrong spot. The lady said its all bad. Every place Ive ever worked at usually honored the price as advertised. The cashier told me that management will not honor it even tho I seen the manager correcting another transaction before me. Apparently the pears were priced wrong and the manager refunded the difference. The meat department moved soooooo slow. I just left. You will only see me for fresh tortillas. Soon as I get my own tortilla press its over. RIP MI PUEBLO.CARDENAS STINKS
Constant miscommunication to customers and being under staffed really impairs its customer service. Its unfortunate that the Concord location is closing when it was by far superior on all aspects.
This place is amazing! Definitely a go-to for delicious Mexican food & supplies. I rode my bike from downtown Oakland because its that good.
Good servicec
I had been wanting to go check it out for quite some time since I heard they changed the name and remodeled inside. As soon as I walked in The store looked pretty stocked and busy. Went over to the carnicería, grabbed a number waited probably 30+ min. The ladies working in the meat department seemed to milk their time, they would go in the back disappear, chit chat between them, laugh, make fun of non Spanish speaking customers. If I hadn’t been in a time crunch from waiting to be helped I would have complained to the manager. It was very disappointing, I was expecting much more from this “new” store but their service sucked. I also noticed no more Mexican music playing in the background, saw lots of Asian & African American people something I had hardly seen when it was just Mi Pueblo. With the store being changed it seems they’re trying to attract people from different ethnicities not just Latins. Which is great because Oakland is very diverse. However, they should really try to work on their customer service first. Not sure if I’ll be back, I might give it another try in a few months.
Nice place nearby to buy groceries. theres nothing really closer to me in Longfellow that sells mexican groceries. has a butcher counter and a counter for dairy products and cured meats. Not as big or with as good of a selection as the mi pueblos in San Jose, but its good enough for being in Oakland.
All the employees talking to each other they dont listen to the customers a lot of Gossip especially when you buy Full no good but dont say anything because theyre really really they get mad at you
I bought two dozen tamales for Christmas eves dinner. I thought theyd be good...they werent they were horribly made out of who knows what. Those tamales were awful, tamales that werent out of fresh masa and the pork tasted old and rancid. DO NOT BY TAMALES THERE. Who knows what youll get!
Pro. Its pleasant to walk throughout the store, I especially like the orange tree in the produce section.Con. Meat department is usually really busy and you have to talk to more than a couple of workers if you want a special cut. Lines can also get really long.Con. used to love going to get fresh WARM bolillos, but I was recently informed that the store will no longer have warm bread available for the public. It has also tasted pretty bland lately. Will have to look for a different store that offers this.
I love their hot food. Dont forget to get a number at the counter! Staff is friendly. You can tell they appreciate local patronage.
Great for meat. Chicken family dinner is a great deal too. Fruits and veggies are cheaper at Foodmaxx though.Edit: This was a review for Mi Pueblo. Cardenas took over and its just not the same. Went from 4 stars to 2.
Over all its much nicer. The paint on the outside of the building isnt done well. But the produce is much better.
Great Mexican supermarket. Clean, well lighted, good prices. Hot food to eat in or take out
Worst experience, cashier was rude speaking spanish loud accross the store and when purchase was completed I was not asked if I wanted a bag and then had to reach and get my purchase because cashier did not attempt to hand it to me. I would tell anyone that I know not to shop there.
I have come here for a long time and the checkout process keeps getting slower and slower, the place is not bad but don’t expect to get in and out fairly quickly.
