Super cute spot. I almost missed it cause it’s in a small side street. It’s cozy and everyone was so nice. They have a great selection of teas as well. You can actually buy loose tea from them! I went for the iced chai tea latte and I really enjoyed it cause it wasn’t overwhelming. It was refreshing and mildly sweet.
Lovely place, great variety of drinks and nice flavors. One of the best milkshakes, good espresso. Friendly stuff and very helpful too.
Kinda tiny right now since the seating is closed for social distancing, but its on such a quiet street that we sat outside for half an hour and saw one car pass by total. Great coffee and service.
Coffee tastes good (though I had a latte). They follow covid protocol to the letter (no straws...plexiglass everywhere ... no indoor or outdoor! seating. But their most egregious offense is that their customer service is robotic. No attempt to engage customers.
Very average coffee and cookies but on a cute cobble stone road right by the Christ church
Sipping a latte at one of their cute tables outside, examining the red brick buildings and watching people walking over the cobblestone streets is as Philadelphia as it will get. They have some phenomenal homemade muffins. Bonus tip: feed pieces of the muffin to the swallows outside to make some quick friends for the morning coffee.
Literally my favorite coffee shop!!! Great products and amazing people. Go for their fantastic selection of coffee or loose chest tea but dont forget to check out the fresh baked offerings!!! We have hundreds of guests that stay with us each week and we always recommend this place to them without one complaint ever.
Great pastries and orange juice is fresh, bright and early
Love the atmosphere here. The baked goods are delicious and there are lots of options. Such a great vibe and unique space, unlike any other coffee shop.
Its so tasty. The service was sociable and attentive. This place has a cool design. Food is like a place in Baltimore I loved.
It was the first time to go to the Old City Coffee. Coffee was very good. A gigantic peanut butter cookie was very good, especially it was not very sweet which is very good. However I gave 4 stars because this cafes interior could be much more cozier. Its outside decorations were very pretty and looked cozy, however its inside interior was very disappointing. Anyway, its coffee and cookies were so good.
Difficult to tell...Respectfully waited outside for 15 minutes, 3 customer limit in store, only to be greeted with “we welcome service dogs only” once I was permitted in store with my pup. Certainly management’s decision to determine who is and is not welcome; however, a sign on the door with notification of policy would be appreciated.
Good service, great espresso. But my muffin was raw in the center, the top was delicious though.
Friendly staff and good coffee. Relaxing atmosphere outside
Horrible service. Bad attitude all around. Do not expect a smile. I was here at 2:45PM on August 3. Male and a female were working.Coffee was not very good, but they were nice enough to switch my order. It still tasted like heavy robusto budget blends. To clarify, this has nothing to do with them making sure we were being safe about covid guidelines. I appreciated their safety measures and candidness about restrictions. (You must wear a mask, cannot use the restroom, and only three are allowed in the store at a time.) My group was observing these and were completely comfortable with them.I should also expand upon my harsh review. The iced coffee tastes like it is made from old batches of hot coffee which are just refrigerated. I ordered a cold brew to receive some of the aforementioned without a warning that it’s “iced coffee.”To qualify, because I sound like a major “Karen,” I’ll admit the baristas were probably tired and sick of arguing with people all day about their new restrictions, but I felt the “get the heck out” vibe as soon as we entered, and that isn’t a good sign.
Great coffee and prices
A total gem. Excellent espresso and very friendly staff.
Good coffee and iced tea. will be closing september 7th.
One of the best coffees I had in my life. Very nice place near the Christ Church. In the morning at 8 am you can sip coffee outside and watch locals walking different dogs. Also the bagels are very good. I tried bagel with cream cheese and peanut butter. The place is also in a walking distance to Eithers alley and Betsy House. Also, they have extra large sizes of cappuccino, latte and mocha - 24 oz.
My Husband, Frank, daughter-Monique-and I have been frequenting Old City Coffee for many, many years. Jack and his wife are without a doubt the nicest people you would ever want to meet or do business with. The products are outstanding and the staff is super! Just ordered another gift card and, Sam?, was soooo professinal and genuinely nice. Thanks agian--especially during this difficult time. All Stay Safe & Well!! Carmella
Loved grabbing coffees here before walking the bridge!
I got a perfect soy latte when enjoying a day in old city. I have high standards when it comes to my drinks, and they exceeded my expectations. There are some massive cookies, bulk tea & coffee, misc. baked goods, ice cream and milk shakes available too. My husband had an oatmeal raisin cookie, my cousin a cappuccino milk shake. Both enjoyed and finished their tasty treats and we rested our feet in the cute cafe. We will for sure go back.
Great hidden gem with good coffee, tea, and pastries. They arent the most affordable, but you honestly get what you pay for here. In my experience, its never terribly crowded, and Ive always been able to find a table in their sitting area. If youre in the area, skip Starbucks and go here.
Nice quiet spot with lofted ceilings and good amount of natural light. I went there to try out a new spot and it wasnt too bad. Most of the time I was able to just quietly read and everyone else was generally pretty quiet as well.
I like it. Been coming here off and on since around 2000 (i think). They brew better coffee then most. A good amount of homemade items. Their Old City location is cute and quaint. The owners are pleasant and innovative (imo). We love their mugs for purchase design and size.
Its a small shop, but has seating available. The coffee is well-made and the staff is friendly. 10 times more flavorful than a Starbucks, and the prices are fair. Definitely give this spot a try.
As a local, Im used to this place! This is a small cafe with inside outside seating....fresh baked bakery items like cookies, bagel, cake, scones and muffins. Pre Packed juices, yogurt and wraps available too.Coffee is bit strong here, always serving seasonal blends.
I truly love this family owned Old City coffeehouse. The coffee is some of the freshest and best tasting in the city. The pastries are delicious and they make a great tasting granola they sell by the pound. The staff is always pleasant and after a few visits they remember your name and more importantly how you like your brew!!
Coffee and cookies are awesome. The furnishing could use some love - kinda jenky tables and chairs Id expect from a lesser coffee shop. It feels like it should be a small cozy place with maybe cushy chairs, maybe a little electric fireplace jib - that would way better suit the vibe here.
Its a cute little cafe in the old city area. Charming and they also sell variety of coffee beans in there. I would be more appreciative if they serve the drink in a mug rather than paper cups since I told them I will have it to stay. But overall, a place worth the local crowd to work, study, social and coffeee of cox
Do visit. They have an art gallery and their coffee + snacks are amazing. Very relaxing to stay even for a short while.
Tried to take my best friend here for Flag Day and the place was packed. Thought it was a good sign but I was wrong. The gnocchi delightful but the barman was a slouch. Next time Im going to Garage.
Went here with my wife this past weekend. We both liked the experience and the drinks. Super easy to pay. Chill staff. Not stuck up. Great example of a local independent shop. I ordered an iced americano and wife got an iced caramel latte. Wed definitely recommend and go back, next time in Old City.
Always good coffee and the aroma invites one to drink coffee! The Sunday afternoon concerts are fine. Today April 28, 2019 was no exception. Both Chase Park, Cellist and Lun Li, Violinist were exemplary and flawless in their performance. Another 5 stars for Old City Coffee to showcase Curtis Institute of Musics fine students.
Overall better experience and service than Starbucks. They offer coffee by the pound that range from $13 to $16 per lb. which is a little pricey but worth it. They have a daily assortment of muffins, bagels, and pastries. They also offer fresh squeezed orange juice, mixed salad, a vegetable wrap, granola with Greek yogurt, oatmeal, chocolate chip and oatmeal raisn cookies. You can also purchase the granola by the pound. It has a soft texture and is delicious. Ask for a loyalty card which gives you a free pound of coffee after the purchase of 10 lbs. They have tables and chairs to enable customers to enjoy their coffee in a relaxed atmosphere as well.
The smell of coffee when u first enter is greeat! Service was super nice. Tasted good and satisfying. They have interesting connections which makes it a great place to read and study.
Great coffee, with great smooth flavor. Love the house roasted beans! Great prices as well!
Im not a big coffee drinker, but was recommended to go to this place for both the atmosphere and the drinks. I was told their hot chocolate was delicious so I had one of those. Well let me tell you, that stuff is MAGNIFICENT! As if Zeus himself had poured a cup of ambrosia and served it to me. The coffee smells in this place took my nose on a tour around the world, all from the comforts of one amazing café. While I was only in Philly for a conference, Im considering moving there for the people..... and Old City Coffee!
Decent space, but cortado was not great. Too much foam, foam too bubbly, and too much milk. Not up to competitive standards. Stick to espresso here?
Coffe was decent but it would have been a better experience if they took your name or gave you an order number so people who ordered after you don’t grab your drinks. Had an excessively long wait. Staff was polite and friendly.
If youre visiting Philly and youre looking for a nice place to get a drink and a croissant, COME HERE. Whenever I see people going to a Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts in Center City, I can never understand why. Why go somewhere you could have gone to at home when there are places like this? Ive come here multiple times. The first time I saw this place, I was by myself and I was curious about the area. They have the most amazing iced coffee and earl gray. The most recent time I came here was for a meeting. Its the perfect place for any cafe need. The meeting went amazingly. Theres not enough room for other peoples chatter to overtake your conversation, but it doesnt really get quiet enough for your conversation to carry throughout the place. I absolutely love this place.
Years ago I lived in an apartment above old city coffee. Still a powerful memory of their powerful coffee aroma coming up through the floor boards. Great coffee especially good with a generous dosing of cream. Cobblestones and the venue of an old sugar refinery complete the atmosphere.
Nice and cheap coffee compared to bigger companies. Totally recommend. They have a room where you can sit and enjoy your coffee.
Very small shop on a small side street with seating area on the other side. Quality coffee, always good.
This is a great little Oasis near Christ Church. We were there for some tours and my kids needed a break, it was a great stop very clean great seating and a clean bathroom. Service was great as was the coffee
I dont like writing negative reviews, especially of independent businesses trying to compete against corporate giants. That said, a negative experience at Old City Coffee in the Reading Terminal Market has compelled me to write such a review.Ive been a heavy consumer of coffee for decades, and in all my experiences, Ive never even close been treated as rudely as I was by and Old City Coffee barista. I have hearing loss. It was crowded in the market and I was having trouble hearing what the barista was asking of me. After the second time of asking him to repeat himself, his answer was in a tone implying that I was the worlds least intelligent person who was wasting his time, and said this at a volume that was too loud for even my compromised hearing. All this said in front of my family; not only was this embarrassing, but it reminded me too of something thats been quite worrisome, since my livelihood depends upon hearing what people say.I wrote an email to their website, and received a very nice response from someone who I later found out was the founder of the company. I greatly appreciate this, however its simply not enough to repair the extremely bad feelings I have consequent to this experience. In the same position, I wouldve offered to send someone a bag of complimentary coffee, or a mug, or something. Perhaps this is beyond their capabilities due to the expense, but if this is the case, then OCC certainly cant afford to employ such rude baristas. And in all honesty, $16.00 for a pound of coffee is even more steep than what the corporate behemoth Starbucks charges for an equivalent bag of beans. If youre more expensive than Starbucks, youd better provide an A+ cup of coffee and experience of the servers. Both were quite below this. Its really too bad, because I used to look forward to Old City Coffee, and their caffeine molecule t-shirts is one of my favorites. Now, all I can think of is that barista talking to me as if I were mentally challenged - he sounded more like a middle school bully rather than someone there to provide a good experience. So, while I appreciate at least the email of apologize, Im still done with Old City Coffee.
Chai was amazing and nice and spicy. I was told that the latte was also very good by my girlfriend. The chocolate chip cookies had too many chips in them, but other than that they were good. The merch was reasonably priced and you can buy lots of teas and coffee beans here.
The aroma of fresh coffee welcomes you inside. Nice vibe
Still one of my favorite places to go for coffee in the city. Quick, easy, excellent coffee and lattes, which scored big points with my boss when he was visiting a client with me in the city. Thanks, OCC!!!
Delicious coffee and baked goods. They also have a great selection of freshly roasted coffee beans and loose leaf tea. And sometimes they have live music!
The coffee is delicious (a surprisingly large number of cafes have mediocre or terrible coffee) and sitting outside is simply delightful along the cobbled street lined with flowers and pestered dog walkers. Theres a nicely sized inside sitting area though Im not sure about the power outlets for the laptops using crowd
Cookies are mouth watering! n Chai latte was good
Delicious homemade muffins and treats. Great small batch coffee. Hidden on Church Street but popular among all of us in the neighborhood!
Best bagel & cream cheese Ive ever had! And delicious coffee 👍
Staff was helpful and I enjoyed the location and atmosphere but unfortunately my partner and I both were unhappy with the taste of our drinks. I was unable to finish mine (glad I went with a small!).
Arguably the best coffee in the city. Fresh food and great atmosphere make for a charming and lovely placeNot to sound too 1 sided, but my friend does own and manage this establishment...Im always looking to stop by and say hello to a good friend :)
Very small shop on a small side street with seating area on the other side. Quality coffee, always good.
Ill return with my friends.
Nice out of the way place, good coffee and a variety of things to eat.
I love this coffee place. Their homemade chocolate chip cookies are the best ones i have ever had.
Cute. Awesome mint hot chocolate! As someone who hates coffee was great to be able to enjoy a coffee shop with a friend and get a warm beverage.
Excellent chai latte & espresso lattes. Bagels are fresh. Old building adds to the experience in historic Philly.
Pretty cafe that sits in the corner of old city. Great coffee and a cozy place to spend time
Greatest location, great snacks, awesome coffee, and cutest sitting room ever! Perfect perfect perfect place for afternoon coffee date in Old City.
I love going here! But it seems like they are always out of something. Either way, they
Great place! Good food and coffee. Friendly staff
I get their bulk roasted coffee and love it. Their coffee and desserts are great (good vegan choices too) and the employees are friendly
Nestled on a cobblestone side street in Old City, this cafe may be small but the quality of the coffee speaks for itself. Different coffee blends are each day and you may opt to get your coffee to go or to stay. If you decide to sit in, there is an adjoining room with tables and chairs where you can peacefully enjoy your food and drinks, and where acoustic musicians may often perform for small audiences. In addition to coffee, tea, and baked goods, Bassett’s ice cream and milkshakes are available. If you are looking for somewhere to get caffeinated amidst your day in Old City, this place is it!
Good coffee and a nice place to go to, quite and you can sit and read a book. Old cities gold standard
OCC is the best. A great place to sit, sip, and reflect. Very consistent. Hey, what happened to the neat wall mosaic that was on one of the walls?
Yum! Very cute coffee shop with excellent coffee and homemade baked goods
Great place to grab a hot-drink and work (free wifi). Ive held multiple meetings here. The environment is comfortable and cozy. Think: Friends sitcom!
Stingy management at Church St. location. Random petty rules make this a very unfriendly establishment. Dont ask them to double cup a hot cup of tea or they will charge you 50 cents for the cup. And whatever you do dont ask for a small sample of the coffee. Even after youve already made a purchase. They will give you a condescending speech about how they are not in the habit of giving away anything for free. Someone doesnt understand customer relations.
We had a wonderful lunch/dinner at this location.
Best chai ever, less sugary sweet, deeper spices, other tea selection is great and the salad dressing they make is addictive. Great cozy vibe too.
A mocha was a coffee with hersheys syrup. Too sweet.
Had a butterscotch cookie there last week...best cookie Ive ever eaten...ever. If theyd ship em to Texas, Id order a dozen right now!
I go there often for ethically sourced coffee and their snacks which qre freshly made. It us usually quiet here
Good coffee spot on a very quite and interesting street. Best bagels in the city.
Excellent coffee, great atmosphere, friendly service, the only negative is they only have vegan muffins but they are very good for vegan muffins.
