I always love visiting this place. Everyone is friendly, and I usually end up with too many delicious pastries… but that is OK! It’s one of the best true French style bakeries in the city. Go here for a darn good croissant or seasonal dessert!
I have bought desserts for family events (and myself) many times and people are always excited both on appearance and taste. MB is not cheap, but I feel I get value, particularly on cakes and pies--with the chocolate layer cake or pecan pie (around holidays) you get no skimping on ingredients and an impressive dessert that will serve several people. Bread is also top notch (you will not find a better croissant in Philadelphia), but the cost is usually high for my purposes. They run out of stuff, so order early or get there first thing if you need something particular.
Best service in Philadelphia. When I order a mocha, Ill only do it from Metropolitan Bakery. Its not too sweet, but sweet enough. Did I mention the service is great? Just an awesome store worth visiting. They have more than coffee, too. The cakes look amazing. I also want to go back to try some of their cheeses.
Run don’t walk for any of the fruit pies. The varieties weekly are based on the freshest in-season fruit. This bakery makes a pie crust that is ambrosia. Light, flaky, delicious. And the chocolate cake - sinful. My ‘go to’ bakery for bread in Philadelphia. Wonderful helpful staff.
I love stopping by and getting my favorite almond croissants and all the different variety of artisan breads. Everything is always fresh and the people who work there are always so pleasant. Definitely a place one must try.
Nice and welcoming staff. Tried a few items like cookies and the almond croissant. They were fine but not great compared to other bakeries in the city.
Great service. Best olive bread ever. Delicious fresh cake. I will definitely be visiting more often. Thank you
We went on the Saturday before easter and there was a short line. We waited roughly 20 minutes and the entire time we did we had the most lovely woman waiting on us. Suzanne was so helpful and apologetic for the line (which she didnt need to be but it was kind of her to do so), took our orders while we waited, made our drinks to speed the process, and chatted with us at the door as she handed things off. She was so extremely pleasant I cant stress enough how she made out experience better even as another customer yelled about preferential treatment which Suzanne handled with such grace. The team inside taking payment and orders was also so knowledgeable and pleasant. We were once a month customers of metro previously but well be there once a week (at least) from now on!
If you really miss good bread from your home country, their bread will bring you back home.
Fantastic bread. Wonderful staff. Fun selection of cheese/eggs/sauces/preserves/etc. Prices are high on those items, as they are generally from small craft producers, but are fun when you want to splurge.
Wonderful bakery, though the variety is a little sparse. That being said, bless you all for serving Kouign-amanns! I absolutely love this particular pastry and the bakers did an excellent job with their batches of kouign amanns!
Very inconsistent service. They had me waiting for >15 minutes before they finally told me my pizza was already done and just sitting there. No apology. This pizza ended up being barely edible: mushy crust caked in flour and weird spots. Normally the pizza itself is overpriced for what it is and what you’re getting. The other non-pizza items are ok.
Lukewarm coffee and service. Ask for a small amount of cream in my coffee, more than half a cup was cream so the coffee was lukewarm. Staff didnt seem to care.
2021 Update: Last Sunday morning I was at the bakery and a staff member was super rude. English isnt my first language, so I make some mistakes when speaking. So, after ordering with some trouble, she literally threw the bag with my croissants over the table and didnt hand it to me. The online order system seems to be more friendly than the staff. Sadly, Im never going back.2020: Best bread in the neighborhood and excellent service! Nothing to complain about. The order online option is great to reduce waiting time in line. Tip: the icecream is incredible.
Very friendly. Many offerings of baked goods, though somewhat lacking in muffin choices. Only 2 customers in store at once makes for a long wait.
Oh man oh man, the white pizza with truffle and sage....WOW so so good. Will definitely be back here a million more times
Love all the different breads here. Git a whole wheat sourdough and raisin walnut. This is my favorite bread store.
Rude and miserable and nasty staff. Don’t waste your time
Very good bakery, ranks in my top 5 in Philadelphia.Croissant is good while it could be a bit more crispy, buttery and flaky on the top.The quality of the baguette is very solid although not my favorite in town. The multigrain baguette is very good even though a bit on tge denser side due to the special dough.I love the rest of the breads (sour dough loaves, ...).I am not a regular but love to go there or at the Reading terminal market once in a while (trying to complete the award card - 13th is free).
Delicious! I broght a whole apple pie for Thanksgiving dinner and tried a couple of bakery items and there coffe, which you can smell a Block away. Theres very little street parking and there was a line to get in... the line moved quickly! Prices were expensive, but the goodies were Great!!
This place is no doubt one of the most attractive place in the region. Whenever I come to this place I am deeply satisfied. They maintain their high level service and the highest level of dishes they offer. You no doubt will love this place. Very recommended.
Looking forward to a return trip. Prices are appropriate for the quality. I can see why they have so many great reviews.
Outstanding food and hospitable and friendly service! We had a great pizza, and the manager did a great job of welcoming my family even as we had two young ones in a stroller - a tight space, but it was very comfy!I would recommend this spot - the food looks incredible (the pizza we had was delicious!), and it is a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The location is superior too being just off of Rittenhouse square. If youre strolling through town, this is a great place to take a break and enjoy yourself.
Excellent service always delicious
Really nothing but enjoyable experiences here, Ill be back. Prices are reasonable I would say. Ambience is similar to Fresnos scene.
Disappointing experience. Given all of the great reviews I was excited to try this place. We stopped in on a Sunday morning and ordered two plain croissants that were dry and stale and clearly not baked on the same day.
Great pastries and breads. A neighborhood staple. I hope it never closes.
Good place downtown i do love there vegan chocolate cake and midnight brownies are delicious.coffe is organic not bad I might add.You will spend a few dollars here. They also have a few selections of breads and they do cut it for you a plus. Customers services is solid. I would recommend this place to visit. They do offer pizza at lunch time.
Forget all the awesome breads, the carrot cake is superb! Grab a perfect coffee, bread for dinner, sit outside and enjoy at least 1 of your required veggies. Check the coolers for more delectable surprises. Staff - always wonderful. Theres pizza next door, BTW. Just another reason to love Philadelphia.
The sandwiches are good, but they heat them up with all the ingredients. The tomatoes are like hidden lava chambers even after reasonable time that would allow it to cool to a safe temperature for consumption. (Not the first time Ive been burned by their sandwiches.) This is a tort waiting to happen. I only write this because three days later, Im still having a hard time eating. the burns on the top of my mouth are a constant reminder of my mistake and their negligence.I would recommend patrons to give themselves extra time to let the sandwich cool down. open it up and watch the steam rise, and be thankful your mouth wasnt destroyed. Then wait an additional 15 min. Or ask if they could remove the tomatoes prior to reheating. However, I doubt all the staff would happily comply. I asked the cashier about an item and he said its what the menu says. Great up-sale potential.
We travel an hour to buy bread at Metropolitan bakery. Enough said?
Consistent! Interesting variety of baked goods. Always love the millet muffin.
Awesome place and the food is so good n handmade each day I recommend this place
Cute/Chic modern bakery with tasty treats. Enjoy one on the sidewalk bench outside!I was doing just that when an older woman, who was walking her dog, sat down and told me her dog was named Addie after the character in the 1973 film Paper Moon. It was great!
Multigrain baguette, almond croissant, cranberry walnut scones, even roasted butternut squash pizza with pesto....oh my.I COULD LIVE MY LIFE IN THIS BAKERY PARADISE OF PERFECTION. Look no further. You have arrived at the pinnacle.
Had a sister come into town and asked me to take her here again. If it wasnt far from my work I would come by more.
Very friendly and helpful staff. They made a custom sandwich for our 5 year son.Ive been eating at Metropolitan for years and love their breads and sandwiches.
Good food - good service.Made to feel more than a customer... always enough time to answer questions
FANTASTIC !
Cute staff. The coffee is made with the upmost care. One of the better cups Ive had in the city. The house made bread is really good. I still need to try there wood fired pizza oven.
Great, fresh, tasty bread
Their caneles are the stuff of dreams. Also big fan of their fennel pretzel. Fresh pizza is next door. Prices are a little high
Metropolitan Bakery is one of the best places to get ready bread and other baked goods in Philadelphia. I also highly recommend checking out their butter selection.
There is a bakery, and a little cafe next door with coffee, baked goods, and sandwiches. I love the muffins there, and a mocha is just the thing on a chilly fall day. One of my favorite bakeries in Philly. The cafe is quiet and small with some tables and some counter seats, and is a great place to sit and read or catch up with a friend or go on a coffee date.
The sourdough bread is quite tasty. This place often has a line, but you can go in before closing and be served quickly. Havent ordered anything else yet, but I have a feeling Ill be back.
Delicious coffee. Had Fig Newton equivalent but much yummier and a delicious pecan bar.
Love this place for a quick cup of coffee and a baked good. The cafe is too tight for me, but the outdoor seating is nice. Fantastic coffee.Food & Drink: 🥇Atmosphere:🥈Service:🥈Value: 🥇
Great baked goods. Friendly staff.
Very high quality, without pretense. Excellent bread.
Really nice for basic soups, sandwiches, and salads but at a high quality level. It does get very crowded at lunch, so I recommend scoping out seating before you order. The food is worth it to wait a bit for a seat.My only complaint is that the ventilation isnt great. Its a small space, and I ended up smelling like a grill for the rest of the day.
Nice bakery. More of a lunch spot than a true bakery. Done baked goods bit heavier emphasis on foods and sandwiches. Food was good though. Great outdoor seating.
A tiny little bakery with not a wide range of options but the things they have are great. I believe they produce everything themselves, they even sell proper bread. The service is a bit slow but the people are nice. Their coffee is also good, and they also have Italian espresso.
Their croissants (chocolate, almond and plain) are to die for! Coffee is delicious too.
Good place to relax and unwind. Looking forward to returning with my friends.
Quaint cafe with friendly staff that serves fantastic baked goods and pizzas. Best danish Ive ever had.
Great bakery with great offerings; I just wish the staff would lighten up a bit. Its because of people like them that we have a clown like Trump in the Whitehouse. Try smiling sometime and pretend like you care about your customers.
Best ever. Always has been.
Best baguette in philly.Try the whole grain one too.Super friendly staff, they triple wrap my bread so It Doesnt get ruined riding my bike back to jersey
Honest and friendly service, good price, excellent almond croissant!!!
Gosh, I love this place. I could get lost in it devouring all the wonderful breads and pastries. I love the coffee and the wonderful service from the workers. You can tell the bakery items are made with love. Nothing ever tastes rushed, hurried or half-assed.
I should have took a photo of the food but it was too good to interrupt. The bill was fair.
One of the best bakeries in the city if not the best.
Staff is pleasant in a questioning way. 4 varieties of granola are all tasty. Brunch at the cafe restaurant was nicely plated and quickly served.Crowded on Sunday mornings.
This place is great, i just wish they spelled caffeine correctly.
Its so savory.
A fantastic little place with a to-die-for menu. Their baked goods are stellar, but their lunch selections were also top-notch!
Mushroom pizza = goodOlive loaf bread = excellentFig bars = the bestAll other assorted rolls = love emBagel = pass on itLemon bars = get ittttI love Metropolitan! Trying to try everything!
Breakfast pizza needed a little more flavor, everything else was great
The fresh aroam the cakes tarts and jellies and pies are decadent
Great little spot to hang out! Good food and lots of options
Great place to get pastries, breads, and hot coffee. Opens early.
I got the cheesesteak. Well deserved spot on Philly Mags 30 must eat Cheesesteaks. after a day of shopping at king of prussia mall or biking at Valley Forge park, head over to Lous for a cool vibe and great cheesesteak. Check his hours of operations first because I think he closes early
Cute place and good looking breads though the almond croissant is terrible. It was not crisp, lacked almond filling and should be removed from the menu for those who appreciate good almond croissants. Try anything else, perhaps a millet muffin.
My wife has their bread card and loves the place. I am a huge carrot cake fan and they dont make it to my standards so 4 stars...
Fantastic in every way. The coffee is delicious and the bread is some of the best around
Great French bakery, cappuccino, etc. And very nice staff.
They have the most amazing fresh baked pastries and bread plus really good coffee. Get it to go and take it to the park wonderful.
Super place to meet and chat with coworkers. I will be bringing friends next time. If it wasnt far from my work I would come by more.
I needed to update my review since the cafe has changed to a pizzeria. Prices are up, quality is down, and staff changes are a big disappointment. It’s hit or miss now, and too many times I’ve left thinking why did I go back.Best beet salad in the city...hands down! (This was when they were made to order. They are pre-made now and just ok).
My place of choice on Sunday mornings. So good. So fresh.
Very good baguettes and croissants, yet the service is a little rushed and hasty.
Great place for european style bread and rolls. They also have a huge variety of other stuff, very delicious is the smoked salmon spread and the lemon bar makes a great desert.
I love their Romesco sauce .... it’s the best .... and their baguettes are out of this world
Cakes cookies and bread are great staff is a little distant and aloof but the stuff is great.
Delicious coffee and expertly-baked treats.
Great friendly staff and great baked goods. Try the chocolate cherry bread baked every Friday, but go early because they sell out.
Best in the city
Nice decor, friendly staff, good food at a reasonable price.
If youre ever to find a slice of heaven in a bakers shop, it will be here, in the wonderful breads, cookies and cakes at Metropolitan Bakery.
The pizza is great. Tons of tasty baked goods.
Good spot for baked goods and especially for scones, however youll find a better cup of coffee elsewhere.
Best bread Ive found in the city, and half price for day old bread is good value
As good as Paris. Only great baguette in N. America.
Great variety of breakfast & lunch sandwiches. Indoor & outdoor seating.
Excellent baked goods. Cinnamon roll is unreal
