This is a board game restaurant. Its a full service restaurant and for $5/person more you get access to all their board games. We went for Sunday Brunch and they do offer a special menu from 10:00am-2:00pm. They have a huge selection of board games and usually someone on staff to be the game master and help you understand the rules of games if you arent familiar. The staff is nice and the food is decent. Would recommend getting a reservation as it can get busy. We had the red velvet waffles and biscuits and gravy.
This place has solid food options and a great selection of games! Their brunch rosemary biscuits and gravy are to die for. I wish they had a couple more vegan options but what they do have was pretty tasty. I wish that you had to play a flat rate per table and not per person to rent games. If youre a large group you end up paying too much to try out a new game. Take advantage of the staffs knowledge of games to learn a new game.
Such an adorable spot! They have a wide selection of foods, varying from spiked milkshakes to hefty salads to garlic Parmesan tater tots. There is definitely something for you to eat here! Also, they have a sort of “game connoisseur” who can recommend games based on your group’s interest and timelines. We needed a half hour game for 5 folks and they suggested Catch the Moon- which was unlike anything I’ve ever played and was so fun! The staff was so attentive and super friendly. I highly highly highly recommend this place! And they have outdoor seating as well :)
A very unique restaurant. I loved the atmosphere, customer service and most importantly the food was delicious.
Perfect date night spot! Drinks and atmosphere were so fun (would recommend the Letter Jam cocktail!). We got the hummus plate, mac n cheese, and veggie melt sandwich which was perfect to nosh on while playing games. The best part is the service-everyone was SO helpful and friendly! We’ll def be back for a boozy milkshake!
It looked like a cool place to eat brunch but the wait was extremely long and when the food actually came they had messed up our order. The waitress was also nowhere to be found. Overall I would not recommend until they are properly staffed.
Game selection and staffs knowledge of games are excellent. Food service was not great though we were there closer to closing so will give the benefit of the doubt. We had a pb milkshake and garlic tots which were both good. Would suggest that they include clearer instructions upon entering on how the venue operates.
Im thinking we probably should have gone at a different time like brunch. The games and atmosphere were great and the staff was nice, but the food (dinner menu) wasnt great. Also there isnt much to choose from if you are vegetarian. Some of the listed vegetarian options include fish.
The concept is great. The games were fun but the food was not good. It lacked seasoning and food options.
So much fun! Had never been before. Will definitely go again, fun for families or couples. Great staff, good food too. 😃
My boyfriend and I went here during the afternoon, played a couple of games and enjoyed some snacks and drinks. It was easy to hang out for four hours. Dan was extremely nice and recommended our first game, Patchwork, which was easy to play. He also spent time to help us get started. The food was great and the 5$ price to play games felt worth it.
Food is delicious!! Love the boozy shakes. Nice to spend time with people and have fun!! So many game options from easy and fun to strategy. Really a great place to spend a family evening where everyone puts there phones down to eat and play!!
Nice game selection. I met up with friends for a double date. We had a great time! Someone was on hand to explain the more complicated games to us. We had so much fun playing classic favorites. The service was great as well. I enjoyed the happy hour menu and specials and the candy but the rest of the menu could use some work. Lots of vegan options but several meat inclusive items that I wanted were made with pork. This place is great for group outings with friends
Place is chill, lots of game selections food is a little pricey but the drinks are decent priced, I recommend the syche I think it was called with ginger beer, super yummy
Really enjoyed the atmosphere! The game options were amazing! Food was decent but nothing fancy (you go there for the chance to game)Edit: menu expanded and got some nice improvement.
Awesome time! Food menu could be better. Other than that no complaints. Will definitely be back again.
This place was awesome! They had so many board games!! All the staff were super knowledgeable and ready to help you with anything you needed. Im definitely coming back.
This is an excellent place to go on a date or fun family outing. The hardest part is picking out a game to enjoy by everyone. The concept is pretty cool. The drinks are good but limited on selection and food is very mediocre. The fun is to be had in playing the game. This would be appropriate for a single person, a friendly date, a first date, a family, a group, or in my opinion getting to know someone the first time and break the ice.
This is a great place for a group of friends to go out to have a date night. They have a ton of games that you can play and are very helpful. I suggest going early though so you can really check out all the games, I went near closing time so didnt fully get to experience. The food is also very good. I would just suggest being careful with ordering, we unexpectedly ran up a $100+ bill with only five items ordered because everything is a la carte, and just a bit pricey. You have to think sharing and not individual orders.
What an underrated place that can be for literally anyone! There’s a game master that was so nice to explain the game to us- and service was great! Pretty affordable for such an awesome time. Drinks, ice cream, games (literally any game possible) what more could you want?
First time going to a bar like this, and I was really skeptical at first, but it turned out to be a really good time! They have a $5 cover charge for every two and a half hour your there, which seemed like a lot at first, but was really nothing by the end of the night.Great beer & Special mix drink selection that includes adult milkshakes that were to die for, and they also have a pretty large menu that includes lots of great cheap snacks perfect for gaming, like popcorn, and gummy cups!We started out playing games some of us had tried before, and eventually shifted into games wed never heard of before. Their game experts were super helpful!!! And were able to explain complicated board games to semi intoxicated players quickly and concisely.Could have stayed and kept playing all night! Only complain is that they close at Midnight.
Food was ok, service not the best but ok. Reason for the 1 star is they added an 18% tip without saying anything. Yes, it was in the small print, didnt see it without my reading glasses. We frequently try restaurants in different cities in the NE/mid Atlantic area. We were a party of 4, wife and kids. It was the middle of the afternoon, hardly anyone else there. Never encountered this in any other place, obviously I dont agree with this policy and wont be returning. Plenty of other great places to go in Philly.
Ive been twice so far, once on a Saturday night for my birthday with a large group, and once on a Thursday morning with my husband. Both times were really fun, although I definitely prefer when theyre not as busy and will probably stick to off hours most of the time. The servers both times were amazing. The first time, despite being a busy Saturday and us having a large group and having to wait over an hour for a table, our server remembered everything we ordered and didnt mess anything up, we were all really impressed! The second time my husband and I got great recommendations and explanations. I really love trying out new games before deciding if we should get them for our home collection.Looking forward to them expanding their food/drink menu, but as it is everything is pretty tasty. All in all a really fun experience, Ill be back for sure!
I am biased. I already love board games. When conversation gets dry, the boredom of every day life kicks in or you dont want to hear about politics again, there is very little that other places offer to get away from that. Thirsty Dice is different. There are hundreds of fun distractions to choose from. Literally everything on the shelves is enjoyable and keeps away the mundane. Now you might not like the games you have played in the past, but there is guaranteed to be at least one game that will spark joy (thank you Marie Kondo) to the pickiest non-gamer in your crowd. Good thing there are people there like Chad that can identify the needs of the crowd, skip the rule book, and get you playing quickly. Before you know it youre laughing hysterically and wondering how Thirsty Dice has not been part of your life before now; Its that fun.Thirsty Dice offers drinks, carbs and proteins, all while being attentive to your dietary needs. They provide a well lit environment to have more fun with your friends than that bar or restaurant down the street. The waitstaff and board game geeks that helped with explaining games were fabulous. Christine, the events manager, was great in introducing us to the game Silver and Gold. The Jakes that served us were entertaining and made the experience amazing. James, while not our waiter, was a lot of fun and engaging in conversation. 6 bathrooms assured you would not be waiting long. My wife and I dont get into Philly much but I cant think of a better and more enjoyable reason to drive in and find parking. Did I mention complete strangers Alexis and Adam sat next to us and joined us playing games and made the night even better? ( Should have started with that.)
Came in on a Saturday afternoon and it was hopping but got a table quickly. Every staff person was friendly and the game tenders were knowledgeable and eager to help (shout out to George). I asked if they had a game but they didnt, but it just happened to come in while I was playing something else and George immediately let me know it was there! The space is industrial chic and had a fun, board-game themed menu. Really handy that they have 6 individual bathrooms. Definitely coming again!
Thirsty Dice was our first experience at a board game cafe and we loved it. They have an expansive collection of board games for small groups to large, all marked by difficulty. We decided to try out a game weve been considering buying (marked as difficult) and the staff was extremely helpful in getting us set up and going over the general rules and gameplay while still giving us space to play and enjoy ourselves. There is a $5 cover per person which is very reasonable considering how many games they have to choose from and their helpfulness. It would be awesome if they had a membership option!Food - a couple vegan options (Id love to see some more), cocktails, draft beer, wine, lattes, and more. (Dairy-free milk available)
Really enjoyed our visit! Had a great time! Thank you!
Amazing service. You can tell the staff loves board games and recommends the perfect game for whoever youre with. Food and drink is great and priced well
Cute place and over 800 board games to play. Great place to go with friends!
Fun place. Great date spot to get to know someone over a game. Also very family friendly if you have kids. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Will definitely be back.
I had a blast playing games with my friends. We had to wait about 30 minutes to get a table, but we had a group of 5 so it was understandable. The food and drinks were great, the service was fantastic, and the selection of games was quite large. Each game is marked with stickers to indicate the level of play and if it is a good two player game. There is also staff members that hang out by the library and give advice on which games to play if you are unsure. I am definitely coming back to play more.
I think this is a hit or miss. There is a wide variety of board games but theres a $5 charge/person/2hours max time. The food is not very tasty, generally small in portion (see below). The drinks are delicious and it is a fun space to revisit childhood classics and explore new games. The service seems confused, they mixed up our order a few times. I had the Boozy Banana Foster and the Glazed Donut PB and J.
The people who work here are so kind and knowledgeable, and the food and mixed drinks were delicious! Great game selection, and a relaxing environment.
Amazing. Different. Must See. Simple menu but all was very good. Spicy snacks. Awesome mixed drinks. Games games And more games !!! Perfect rainy day trip for family. Not one cellphone was seen in nearly two hours. With a 15 year old girl !!! Yes it can happen. Staff was amazing. What a great way to spend time.
They take a 8:45pm reservation but then last call is at 9:30pm and they make you feel like they want you to leave by 10pm but seating times are supposed to be for two hours. Took about a half hour to get help getting a game picked out and then felt rushed to leave.
Eh. Tator tots were good but overall the food selection was lacking and iffy. The two hour time limit really puts a damper on things unless youre all about old school games that are quick. Atmosphere was ncie, and the staff was friendly!
What Monopoly does to families this restaurant will do to your relationship. Avoid.
Really fun place with great, friendly staff!
Nice hangout spot for some game night fun for adults or lil kiddies too! Games & more games, you like it... they probably have it! Small menu, decent prices, and tasty food. Had a Short Rib Cheesesteak that was delicious! Table service could be a little better, however it was a full house and we were having fun so they get a little pass.
Very cute shop! The boozy milkshakes are a must try (I had the Cinnamon Toast Crunch) and the food was delicious. The pork belly and the peach pepper wings were so yum. Cant wait to come back with friends and play some of the games
Such a fun place to go with family! Highly recommend going here to play some games and eat some good food.
I took a trip to Thirsty Dice last week and was not let down! They have a new head chef who has added a bunch of delicious items to the already great menu. The adult milkshakes were to die for. Highly recommend!!
Want to try a board game or get into the hobby? Go to this place and youll have a blast! $5 for 2 1/2 hrs per person to play their games. $40 for 4 people to have a table for 5 hours. Food portions are a little tiny for the price and the price is also slightly overpriced but they are providing a great service, with awesome staff members who are VERY knowledgeable about the board games they have available. Make sure to get a Philly beer :)
Amazing new board game café. One of the best Ive ever been to.Great game collection, games are in perfect condition, lots of strategy games, too. We played two very new games, so they are definitely up to date :)Staff is super nice and they give recommendations and explain the games aswell. I had a milkshake which was very good and the classic pizza bread, which was fantastic!! Definitely will come back here soon :)
Best board game place in the area
Pricey Diluted Cocktails,.... (also small),.... but creative,....
Ive been looking to go here since I heard about them opening up originally, but then COVID hit. Glad I got to go!
We had so much fun going on their opening night! We had a Board Game Concierge, David, who showed our experienced game group some cool new games and walked us through set-up and the first round which was awesome. Before I get going, let me say that they have a wall of games. Like legit a wall, filled with board games. The board games had color-coded stickers on them denoting levels of difficulty. I was standing in awe for a few minutes just staring at this heavenly sight. We were there about 2.5-3 hours, eating and drinking and playing games. We had a seventh join us after our first few rounds of our first game (Deception), and if you know games, you know that 7 is like the worst number of players. Games that allow over 6 are few and far between, and most of them require pairing off or even-numbered groups.Didnt David come up with the most fun game for us? He brought over Concept, explained gameplay, gave some examples and checked in a few times while we were playing too. It was a game we had never heard of, we had never played, and we left wanting to buy that game! Actually I loved our first game, Deception, too.TL;DR: Service was great, the games were fun and varied. Staff was friendly, courteous, and helpful. Everyone just seemed so excited that this place was a reality.I cant wait to go back!!!
Their takeaway packages are awesome! We did a date night of pizza and codenames duet and we had a ton of fun!
Didnt enjoy it at all
Great nachos. Awesome shakes. Genuine staff. Can’t say it more. Go and if it’s too cold out get some take out. It won’t disappoint!
Super fun!
Super fun night! I didn’t realize they would have a full food and drink menu. So many awesome games to choose from, even ones you have never heard of. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. I want to recognize Dylan for taking extra time to help us with a game and providing excellent customer service.
The section of board games is great. The events that happen throughout the month always look like fun. I’m so happy that they started having a waitlist. My foods always been kinda decent and not too expensive.
Game selection/staff/decor was all 5 stars! Drinks were a 1/5 since they were suppose to have alcohol in them and they did not. No taste of alcohol and we questioned it and were assured they did. We were charged for alcoholic mixed drinks and did not get what we paid for. If I go back I will stick to beer no more mixed drinks.
This place has a great vibe going on, food selection might look small but it packs hella flavor. Would HIGHLY recommend for fun hangouts and drinks for a game night. The mac and cheese is a flavor masterpiece, and the dishes to share are all great. Protip: if you order the Dip-A-Matics and the soft pretzel sticks, the mustard and dip combo is phenomental. Just LOOK at that game collection.
Fantastic place to go with your teenagers. The game selection was amazing! The staff was super friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the food while playing. Would highly recommend Thirsty Dice!!!
A great place to go with friends. We had a blast playing games. They have a great drink menu, a lot of choices and the prices are very reasonable. A ton of seating. If you like board games, this is the place for you.
This is a cool spot to go to if you want to hang out with your friends and have a selection of games. It gets crowded on Friday and Saturday evenings, so maybe plan for a different day to enjoy the space more.I gave it three stars mainly because the food needs drastic improvement and the drinks are OK at best. If youre not hungry and you dont drink alcohol, its a great way to spend $5. But if you want to go and drink and eat, just know they need some work in that area. They do have decent happy hour prices, though, so give it a try.
Great time a few weeks ago! Everyone was so friendly and patient. Great drink selection and they offered gluten free and vegan options. Will definitely be back! Great place to go during the day with kids and night with friends. Thank you!
A wide range of games to choose from, food is tasty, staff is friendly and may be able to help you learn to play. Ill say I have no idea about prices on food or drink because we went during a free event. Definitely planning on a return trip!
Nice board game Cafe in a convenient location. There is a good selection of games, friendly staff and the food is actually really good. I got the cauliflower dish and it was delicious. In addition, the drinks arent too bad. I had a London fog and that was good as well.
A few friends and I went to thirsty dice to play some board games and get some drinks. The staff is very kind and happy to teach you how to play any board game, provide any game recommendations or help make a decision in a pinch when you’re in a competitive game. The inside is beautiful and super colorful with board games compromised on every wall and cranny. They even have board games for sale!! So not only can you test games out, but if you like the game and you want to purchase it you can do so! I can’t say I’ve heard that as an option before at any place I’ve been to so I gotta give thirsty dice major kudos for that option! I ordered the Hanabi tea that they make in house, which is mint green tea with their house smoked coconut and ginger. It was delicious!!! My friend ordered a regular coffee and couldn’t get over how delicious his coffee tasted! My sister ordered the vanilla milkshake which she said was out of this world!! We will be back to thirsty dice very very soon!!
Not usually a big board game person, but this place makes everything so much fun! Couldnt have asked for more welcoming, wonderful employees, and the selection for both the drinks and the games are fantastic. Tons of fun with a group!
Incredible board game selection with even more incredible people working there. Everyone is nice and respectful, with workers there to teach you games that may be new to you. Ive never encountered a game without all of its pieces. The food is also very yummy (if a bit pricey). The alcohol selection and happy hour deals are also quite attractive. The cover is $5 which is reasonable considering the nice atmosphere and wide selection of games.
Really fun and staff were incredibly friendly and helpful! How they know the rules to every game is beyond me, but its appreciated. Food is inexpensive and quite tasty. Nothing fancy, but if youre a fan of Mac and Cheese or pizza, itll do. Chef is apparently a pastry chef, so desserts and sweets are definitely worth a try, too.
Ugh so wonderful. Endless selection of new or nostalgic games. Wonderful drink specials. Wonderful staff. Only issue would be that only two staff was catering the whole place so things were sometimes kinda slow but we were having fun playing games so we didnt notice most times. Also note that the mac n cheese is very small.
As a lover of games and beer, this place was perfect. Tons of games to choose from so theres no boredom in sight. Their staff was really friendly even when busy, which I appreciated!
A unique bar experience with friendly staff. The bar focuses on board games that are sorted by category and player numbers. One seated, a staff member comes to your table to explain how to play the game you selected. The bar has a decent selection of dinks and food. Its definitely worth a visit if youre in the area.
Very friendly and helpful staff! Wide selection of games to play, and some games available for purchase too. Will definitely be coming back.
A great shared space! Me and my girlfreind came here after seeing the penitentiary. The server, Dan, was a great help with the menu as well as with their huge library of boardgames. He walked us through 2 games while we were there and was super helpful in teaching the rules. Well priced, great food, great service! Definitely will come here again.
Went on a whim, and it was an awesome experience. Everyone was very friendly and helpful, even when our group had a ton a questions about some games weve never played, they answered them with a smile and some suggestions for what to play next. Beverages were great and beers they had were good as well. Food was tasty and perfect for light gaming snacks. Cannot wait to get back next time were in the area.
Loved it. Great games and environment. Lots of vegan foods which is awesome. Food and drinks were a little pricey but thats probably how they make the bulk of theyre money. Overall 👍🏾
Pretty nice place to go over the weekdays so you dont pay a surcharge. If you can find a new and fun game, youll have a great time. Need to know what you look for, and need to go with friends
Terrible service. I want to like this place but Ill never come back unless they overhaul some things. Thirsty Dice, take notes.*It took exactly 36 minutes from when we walked in until we actually received drinks, ordering as soon as we were helped the first time. First round of drinks also had incorrect orders and had to be sent back; server admitted fault.*Food was way overpriced. Drinks and beers were too. Menu advertises a 17oz pour in bold but we laughed at how short they were all poured, about 2 each. Later, a 12oz can poured into one of their glasses confirmed we all got like 12-14oz drafts. Everyone in the party either thought the food was either small/overpriced or of poor quality, or both.*Getting asked to leave when our time was up, only after offering to let us stay for $5 more per person. We had reservations and were explained that $5 pp only was good for the first 2.5 hours, then wed have to pay more. At the 15 minute mark, they warned us that time was almost up and wed have to pay more. When they brought the check, we asked to re-up and also for another round of drinks. We need to check and came back a moment later We actually have a very large party coming in soon so youll need to leave. Have a great night. If you know have a large reservation coming in later, communicate that to your patrons when they arrive. Let them know they cant renew their time and the limit will be 2.5 hours. Worst, at least give them a definitive heads up that theyll need leave at least an hour before so we can plan games accordingly, instead of boxing up two unfinished games.2 stars because most people we interacted with were at least friendly and the game selection is good. I recommend going to a brewery or something else and bring your own games. Avoid this place until they can train their staff, improve service, drop prices, improve food/bev, and figure out how to communicate and set expectations.
Thirsty Dice is one of a kind and exactly what the Fairmount neighborhood needed! The drinks were great, music was fun, and the atmosphere was upbeat and positive. I highly recommend trying it out, even if you are not a huge gamer. The Gametenders were super approachable and made choosing a game a seamless process. The wait staff was attentive and friendly, got us seated within a few minutes and checked on us often. I definitely will be going back!
The games are fun!!!!!!! and *most* of the staff members are nice, but Ive been here twice now and my waiters have always been rude (they dont speak when they come to my table but they speak to other people when they go to theirs; they bring me my drink but never come back for the rest of my order; they act like theyre inconvenienced when they first introduce themselves but dont behave nearly the same way for anyone else they approach. This has happened twice and soured both experiences).
They have 800 board games. And the staff is very knowledgeable about all of them. The food is great and the beer selection is awesome. Come check it out with your gaming friends. You wont be disappointed. It gets busy on the weekends but slower during the weekdays.
Went for the grand opening this weekend and had a wonderful time. Incredible game selection, awesome staff who help you get started faster, tasty snacks, and some solid beers! Could not have asked for a better experience! Will definitely be returning!!!
I really enjoyed my visit! There is a huge -and I mean truly huge- selection of games of every sort. I had planned to show up for 2 to 3 hours and ended up staying for 4+. Games are well organized and many of them are even labeled as to difficulty, or that they can be played with two people, or other criteria.Food was good, not amazing or anything ...but its appropriately inexpensive. I mean, its not like youre going there to have a restaurant experience. So really, its a perfect situation; I personally dont want to spend a lot of money on food when Im really there to game and have some drinks. :-)The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. we didnt need help with games but there was always someone to ask and while I was looking through the shelves (and shelves!) of games, someone came over just to check on me to make sure I was finding what I wanted; Helpful, but unobtrusive. :-)GREAT spot for a first date!
I went for team building with my job. The pizza was great. The staff are very knowledgeable of the games and tips for playing. It was a great time
A good place to hang out and play games. Not the best food, but still good
