If you want to support local, make sure you also support a place that is there for a better cause. The Refuge Cafe is just that place. The selection is fantastic and the service is great. There are plenty of competition as it is. But remember your dollars dont boost a corporations stock but helps impact lives around the world. You can make the world a better place, one cup at a time.
SUCH AN EXTRAORDINARY CAFETHE COFFEE QUENCHES YOUR THIRST YAND THE FOOD IS METICULOUSLY COOKED TASTE SO DIVINE.A PHOENIX GEM FOR SURE
Cool spot! Weirdly we got there around 10am and they closed at 11. Didnt realize. Also there isnt any parking. Had to park on the street. Staff is really nice though.
Great local spot for breakfast and coffee. I order the chorizo burrito with everything it’s delicious with the salsa. They have indoor seating and outdoor patio seating. Staff is friendly. So happy they are back to normal business hours after this pandemic. Now let’s show some love to our local spots!
Love this shop! Food was amazing when they still served food, but coffee is phenomenal nonetheless now that COVID has shut down the rest of their operations. Good atmosphere and they have great ethics.
I’ve ordered chai tea from here twice and it literally just tastes like milk. I feel like I’ve wasted my money. Very disappointing
My wife and I love to have a quick breakfast and a delicious coffee. The chef like to get you a nice and warm breakfast the best on 7 ave .
I love going here. I look forward to a return visit. The bill was decent.
I like it here, excellent food & service. will surely make a return trip. feels like a place in charlotte that i enjoyed visiting.
The service we had was phenomenal and the gentleman behind the counter(Alex) was super funny and friendly. Even though it was very busy he kept up with everyone and seemed to enjoy the atmosphere. Well definitely be coming back. Two thumbs up
Really great place. We stopped here for breakfast and the burritos were cooked and put together very well. I was very satisfied with space inside. Plenty of room to get comfortable and chat or play any number of house games available. This is a sure winner. And the staff are terrific. Very polite and accommodating.
I would recommend this little café. The mini breakfasts were tasty and they were happy for us to change some of the items to suit our tastes. We managed to resist the gorgeous cakes on this occasion.
The service was very kind and attentive. the bill was appropriate.
Solid little coffee place with fresh scones! Walked up to the counter and the nicest guy in the world asked us to wait while he pulled maple, bacon, pecan scones out of the oven. 3/17/19 update: Still awesome but cafe closes at 3pm Monday through Friday, so plan to visit early.Visited twice this week. Had an iced cafe mocha, which was awesome. The perfect balance of flavors. The coffee was super smooth and not acidic. Also had a delicious scone. Ambiance is perfect. Quiet enough to be able to have a conversation. Will return and try other menu items. Staff was friendly and brought my coffee to the table.
Best breakfast burritos in the Melrose area 🤩
Excellent place to have a coffee. Also great customer service😊
Nice friendly people, they laughed at my jokes!
Are you open? Everything indicates they are open at 1:30 pm on Thursdays but I have come by twice on different Thursdays at 1:30 but the door is locked.
How can you not love a place that combines seriously yummy food, charitable intentions, and a quiet, welcoming environment? This restaurant is a Catholic Charities enterprise, and they put people to work who need employment or job experience. Theres a small conference room in the back you can reserve, and its quiet enough for meetings over coffee. I always walk out of there feeling like Ive eaten well and done good all in one.
I visited your location in the Phoenix Airport today and was blown away by the service of your staff. Both employees were incredibly warm & upbeat. Their positivity was absolutely infectious. Darius and John(?) made my day (oh and the food was great too)! :)
The hours listed on here need to be updated. Took an Uber all the way here just to be told that they closed in less than 5 mins (11am). The info listed said 3pm.
A peaceful place to enjoy well made drinks and food. The Refuge doesnt feel like another cafe. The menu is broader than youd expect and they really seem to take pride in what comes out of the kitchen. Always an enjoyable experience.
Nice space with contemporary feel. Excellent baked goods, black & white latte was really good. Service a bit spotty but, overall its a winner. And they help local non profits which moved them from 3 stars to 4 in my book.
I really like this place. Its a nice, quiet spot to work, very different from some of the more hip cafes I usually frequent. The coffee and breakfast sandwich are both delicious and the people here are all incredibly nice. Plus the food prices are very reasonable.
Refuge cafes coffee is very strong and delicious even with milk (I normally prefer coffee without milk) They have some good food too. Although I wish they would flatten the chicken breast a bit before putting it in a bun. I am sad that they apparently will be closed on weekends soon? I dont understand. This seems like a bad business decision.
Love the coffee and the mission and I would love to continue to support this local business. However, it is a big deterrent to continue to bring my business to Refuge when I am charged for non-dairy milk as creamer in my coffee. Not for a latte but for about an ounce or less so that I can enjoy my coffee without risking an allergic reaction to dairy. I know this doesn’t seem like a big deal (it absolutely is a privileged problem) but this is the only coffee shop I recall encountering in the Phoenix valley that has this policy.Could I seek clarification from the owners or management on the policy to charge extra for an ounce of almond milk? I don’t want to assume the reasoning behind this policy but I imagine there is a good reason for it. I tried calling the cafe directly before it closed and received no answer. Thank you for your response.
Awesome find, I was out and about hitting up all the boutiques and thrift shops near by when I stumbled upon this place. Sat at the bar with my husband and was immediately greeted by the cool bartender who was super informative on the menu, drinks and the place and how it helps with Catholic charities. The food was good the drinks were great and we played some of the board games they had there. Very comfy and casual place. We will definitely be back
The food was amazing! The innovative menu and obvious care in the prep of the food and tasty, generous portions is the reason for the 5 stars.
First time visiting.... cool place to stop and chill. I didnt try any food on this visit... just an iced beverage which was tasty... nice staff there as well.
Good coffee, green tea and gluten free snacks. The staff were friendly and knowledgable. We also enjoyed the art work through out the coffee shop.
Great place for lunch. The sandwiches are tasty, and so are the soups and side salads. They also have nitro coffee, which is awesome. Refuge does lag on the espresso drinks, though, compared to other specialty coffee houses like Giant, Silent Flight or Cartel. But its also important to mention that the staff is great.
This is our new Sunday joint. And its not close to home. Friendly staff, excellent coffee, good breakfast food and inexpensive . . .Update: Im changing my review - the level of service here is extremely uneven, depending upon who is working. Either excellent or terrible. Today has been terrible, as is always the case when the particular server is working. Like, abysmal.
Fantastic meeting spot. They have a quiet conference room in the back that has a white board and lots of space. The menu is easy to order from and their burritos are delicious.I am a huge fan of customer service and this place offers the best!
The Refuge has a great variety of fresh foods and drinks and a warm, comfortable atmosphere. I like meeting friends here for relaxed conversation.
Awesome cappuccino. Really good tuna melt. Welcoming staff. Will be coming back.
One of my favorite places for lunch. Staff is friendly. Menu is varied. Love their potato soup!
My family and I decided to abandon bottled water in an effort to be more environmentally friendly. We recently ordered a water filtration system and needed to get several five gallon water bottles and fresh, purified water.
I attended an after-hours benefit at The Refuge and had a delightful time. I cant speak to the coffee and morning eats, but the space is nice and the staff were friendly and attentive. On display are artworks available for purchase that were made by refugees. I would recommend this venue for events.
Darius is THE man to see at 4am! He greeted everyone with a smile and a personal connection. Good food, same prices as anywhere but exceptional customer service definitely sets them apart.
As always, the food is superb. Coffee is always on point - with or without Baileys 😉 - and the atmosphere is so laid back. Perfect to bring friends, family, or really anyone!
Great coffee to wake up work, and beer selection to wind down to. My only complaint is that theyre not open later! The staff is always kind and helpful. Proceeds support Catholic Charities.
I cannot find anything that compares to their lavender coffee! It’s the best!
Great place to meet up. Great coffee and friendly staff. I have only been there for coffee so far, but am looking forward to coming back at night for food and wine. As a bonus they support local non-profits.
Nice coffee and breakfast/lunch shop. Original recipe food menu that is not the same breakfast/lunch you can get anywhere. Service was very good both times I have been there.
Who knew this would be a bomb lunch spot? Great food, friendly atmosphere. All for a great cause. Check it out!
(This review is for the one located in the airport’s B terminal). Awesome service! For about an hour, I watched how employees interacted with customers. They really know how to welcome someone. Genuinely interested and experts at making small talk. Great coffee and snacks.
Nice, trendy, cozy and hip cafe with good food that is a fine alternative to the chains.
Not too keen on the parking there but Great food and service
Very cozy and relaxing neighborhood coffee house where you can go to read, chat with friends or study on your laptop or other device. Jessica, the lead server, is outstanding! I love this place!
Breakfast burrito is amazing. I love that they grill it like a panini. Service was a little slow but the food cause made up for it.
Nice quiet place to get some work done. Tables are a little close together but the area doesnt echo too much, so all the conversations dont get too loud. Good drinks (coffee, tea and adult bevs). Friendly staff. I didnt wander around too much but seating seems very limited.
Always great food!! Everyone i introduced to The Refuge has also loved the food and atmosphere.
A sweet, comfy space with a great selection. And they truly care about making a positive impact on the community!
Great coffee drinks and breakfast burritos. Cyan Mocha is good if you can take the heat. And they have a full bar too.
I want to be clear that this is related to the airport location. I know its airport food so my expectations werent very high to begin with but the food here is horrible. I had the breakfast panini and it was like eating rubber.
Great shop and customer service was awesome.
Staff is super friendly. Good food. Excellent coffee. Clean. Nice place to meet friends.
Every time I come here I spend the first 5-10 minutes wondering if anyone works here. Other than that, its a nice little place. A little pricey but the food is good.
Great food. Friendly staff. Community conference room open to the public. I will be back!
The cayenne mocha was delicious, definitely has some spice.
Love local coffee shops and the refuge is one of the best. Centrally located, great atmosphere to work or have meetings.
Loved the art work and the idea that supports this place. Great coffee!
Coffee is incredible and there are even board games and books for the kids!
I love this place...made me feel right at home. Beer was great and the food.. wish I lived closer to it.
Always a spot to bring out of town visitors to. Great food, coffee, and great happy hour deals. Artwork is always interesting to look at.
There is music every second saturday of the month, please go and support your local artist ! Also the menu is a bit price for what they make, sandwiches and many types of drinks, but very good quality. It is very cozy giving the feel of being in someones home.
Good place to sit back and relax grab a bite to eat and just hang out. The food is fantastic and the staff very friendly
I started real slow getting muffins, breads, and now Ive expanded ordering avacado toast, brie with apples and my new fave Breakfast Burrito..
Nice place, should put the refugees they hire at the front of the house tho
The food isn’t what makes this place amazing. It’s the amazing staff that makes you feel welcome as soon as you step up to the counter!
Chorizo and egg breakfast burrito was very good. The iced coffee was okay. Seemed a little weak and had an odd flavor. I did get a refill (for full price😠), but only because I needed it. The staff was very friendly and didnt give us a hard time for having a group of 6. The people behind us were a little irritated, but hey, they should have gotten up 10 minutes earlier. Haha.
Excellent coffee, great food, friendly staff, nice atmosphere.
Its a very unique Cafe also serving alcohol so you can get real amaretto liqueur in your coffee if you wish its great everyone should at least visit once support your local businesses at the same time its very enjoyable
Friendly staff, air conditioned inside area, interesting local and global art (all Christian themed unfortunately) very good chai
A great place to to meet or get together w/ family, friends or a first or many date nights.
The food is always great and so are the people working here! Its a great place for a quick bite or to chill for a while!
Amazing ambience, great for siding, meetings or cool hang out a great coffee warm people
Really nice people! Good food and great drinks! Good hangout place.
Very nice laid back atmosphere. Apparently a non profit that helps support vets, women and children from abuse, and homeless.
I attended a meeting in their conference soace, didnt eat or drink, but had a good vibe. After I eat, then I definitely will add stars to reflect that experience.
A place thats comfy and cozy.Best chai tea latte i ever had!
Comfortable, cozy, great food, and charity based. Stop in sometime youll love it too.
Cute little coffee shop with local art, and I believe that the proceeds go towards refugees 😊
Friendly, courteous staff. First time today, at the airport, passing thru, got a 12 oz mocha frap. Like he said, best one on this side of Mississippi 😊because by far nothing compare to the mocha freeze i get in Hawaii. It was good. Keep up the good work guys. 🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙
Good atmosphere for visiting, personal or business .
Cool chill cafe with good food and an even better Lavender Latte, with homemade lavender syrup :)
Coffee within a greater purpose! Local, Community-loving, delicious.
We have meetings there in the morning sometimes they have excellent coffee and they have refills salsa if youre not going to take the cup please use a mug and they also have free refills the food is a little pricey but worth it
Chorizo breakfast burrito is great, as is their fresh flourless peanut butter cookies. Nice somewhat enclosed patio to enjoy these beautiful AZ spring days!
Great food and great service supporting a good mission.
Iced coffee is great. Ryan is a great server!!!
Really nice coffee and friendly staff!
Excellent, community oriented, coffee shop and cafe. A great place to study or host a meeting.
Nice place to hangout, good products, positive vibes.
Great selection and quality. Prices feel a bit high but Im willing to pay for it
