This place is AMAZING!! This is a DINER! They have an awesome menu, you are greeted with smiling faces as soon as you walk through the door and everybody knows your name! It seems like a family like back in the day you would go to have a good breakfast before church with your family.We had a great waitress whos name is Tina and she was so full of energy and gave great recommendations. You know I got the grits and my friend got the overstuffed omelette and was raving about it! Ive found my new regular breakfast spot! This place is kinda tucked off so if you are not looking for it youll miss it.

Nice local shop. Staff was very nice. We ordered the country skillet and corned beef hash. Both were great! They had outdoor seating as well and thats where we sat as it was full inside. Its Sunday so that was expected.

Two words. Pork. Roll. Cant believe Im just finding this place after being in AZ for 23 years (theyve been around for 27 BTW). This is that neighborhood spot where you can find home cooking and friendly staff who clearly know their regulars. The food was delicious but Im mainly ecstatic to find somewhere that serves legit pork roll (or Taylor Ham if you prefer). So many other delicious sounding options for breakfast or brunch I will definitely be happily making the 40 minute drive and returning again and again. Will be hard pressed to order something other than the pork roll but the cinnamon roll that my wife got looked legit too.

The staff here is so friendly, it feels just like a small town midwest diner. The food was absolutely delicious and we will certainly be back!

This is a small diner that is great! I called in to see how busy they were and they mentioned they had one table available and that they would hold it for me while we drove in.That was super kind and made for an even better experience! The food was amazing too!I had a biscuit topped return sausage, eggs, and gravy, with a small side of home potatoes. Overall the meal was tasty. About $15 per person for breakfast.

My wife and I were in Phoenix for the day as we are twice a year. We always try to pick some place new to eat at. Yesterday, we stopped into the 40th Street Cafe and really enjoyed everything about our experience. Good comfort food, good service and on point in every way. Everyone there was wonderful! Definitely one of our favorite local restaurants to patron. Will keep returning and recommending for great food and good value. Service is always friendly and on point! Love to have this Cafe as a choice in our neighborhood. Thanks great staff!Only criticism is that machaca tastes more like a soupy tomato beef stew, than a Mexican seasoned and dehydrated just right dish slow cooked with fresh chilis. Stick to authentic Mexican restaurant for that choice, but everything else weve ever tried there is as described and very very yummy.

Food was very, very tasty. The portion sizes are good and prices low and reasonable. Relaxed family style atmosphere and very clean and well kept. Will absolutely be returning!

Literally the best chicken tenders EVER! I havemt had a single thing on the menu I didnt like. Food is always perfect, good quality and large portions and service is super friendly! Little mom and pop shop been there since 1993 and I love the military memorabilia adorning the walls supporting our troops. Prices literally cannot be beat and youll feel like family here. Actually got lunch again today!

This place has crazy good breakfast! I had eggs, hash browns, chicken fried steak, and corned beef hash with rye toast. The corned beef hash was exceptional oh, but the chicken fried steak was the best Ive ever had! Never Frozen, hand breaded chicken fried steak made to order. My friend had the Polish sausage Skillet that looked phenomenaI and a side of 1/2 order of biscuits and gravy. I highly recommend this restaurant for breakfast and I cannot wait to go back and have lunch there someday.

This is a tiny restaurant with some outdoor seating (follows COVID protocol). I have never had a bad meal here. There is a large menu for breakfast and lunch and the prices are very reasonable. The owners and staff are friendly, efficient, and always willing to chat with you. I happily recommend this place!

This is gonna be my to go place for breakfast. Thier food was great. I didnt expect the Chicken Fried steak would be that juicy and tender. The reason I am giving 4 stars because I was supposed to have the traditional country fried steak (the beef) but since theyre out of it I ended up getting chicken. Still it was really good. The gravy was so delish. Everything was good. And it doesnt cost an arm and leg.

Such a wonderful place to eat, its small inside but they managed to fit and feed everyone and the employees were so kind. They are American strong!

I’m actually having breakfast here now. I’m a southern girl by heart and prefer to frequently support local small businesses. I was looking to get the homestyle hospitality that small diners usually present. When I first walked in, I felt quite uncomfortable as the male waiter looked at me and looked away. I had to ask if I could sit anywhere.The lady at the front is pretty amazing with her customer service, but I just didn’t feel comfortable....at all.I took my order to go. I was looking for a comfortable breakfast on this rainy winter day while I recover from a cough and thought this would be the perfect spot. I drove from Anthem because it had good reviews.I’m giving my breakfast to a homeless person. I felt rushed and very unwelcomed.

I have been going there for years. Friendly atmosphere and employees. Seating is limited but, tables become available inside and outside fairly quickly. Its kind of a meeting place for regulars. Family friendly. Fast service. I havent had a bad meal. If you love bacon like me. Their bacon is excellent. Wide variety of food options. Big breakfast. Soups, salad, hot and cold sandwiches. Burgers as well. Fresh pies and muffins. Its best to bring cash or there is a service fee for using a card. They were hurting from the fees they were being charged. Give it a try. You wont be disappointed.

No entry without mask sign right on front door, laminated mask signs on every table 🙄 if it was just me and my husband we would have went elsewhere. Food was fine and staff never let my coffee get past half full. Will not be back though until they get rid of mask mandates.

This is one of those places where the locals go. The staff was awesome. The staff called many of the customers by name and knew what they wanted before they sat down. Great breakfast menu. I will definitely be back for breakfast again. I wont do the chicken fried steak again, too tough.

We have been coming here for many years. This is our go to place. Owner Peggy and her team make everyone feel like family. Great food and service at reasonable prices. When out of town family and friends visit, they always ask to come here.

We used to live closer to this cafe and would make a point to visit once or twice a month for breakfast. Service is impeccable - the staff is friendly and funny, will make you feel welcome and constantly anticipates your needs. Although this isnt a brunchy spot, they serve some of my favorite breakfasts in the valley. Come here for an affordable, yummy and cozy breakfast if you can!

After reading many of the reviews posted for this business, my expectations were that I would be able to do the same. Unfortunately, that was not the case. While I understand the draw of nostalgia and of giving patronage to “ma and pop” business’s, versus chain establishments, especially now, it’s the food I’m going there for. To me, 5 stars equates to brilliant...exceptional or phenomenal. 4 stars being not the best but still very good. In the case of the 40th Street Cafe, 3 stars is all I could muster. The service was excellent and if that were the only factor being judged for this review, it would be a 5. The food, was “okay”. The Chicken Fried Steak was “Denny’s” okay. It wasn’t up to par with Mel’s Diner or Texaz Grill. Perhaps I’ll try again in the future.

This restaurant has tons of regulars and the employees are always very welcoming. The food is good nothing amazing but always good. I don’t like that they charge you a service fee to uses credit card. Make sure you have cash when you go.

The staff is very friendly and this was my second time visiting. I like that they have an option to sit outside and ensure that the table is disinfected. The food is excellent and the waitress kept us informed on when our meal will be out. The food is worth the wait and will keep posting new meals as I try in the future.

The food was good for all of us. With regard to seating, I wont return with a party of more than 4. And the weekend morning time we visited meant a 30+minute wait outside with smokers nearby. Not a great visit, but on a slower day, I would visit to try again. Based on friends opinions, I bet this place would benefit from an expanded location.

Both the food and the staff are fantastic! Food is super fast and fresh and really hard to beat for any price point but this is over the top flavor for so little. Best breakfast in the area by far. This is my favorite breakfast spot in the Valley. Even if I have to wait for a spot at the counter, it is always worth the wait. Down to earth atmosphere and excellent food!!!

I came here with my family this past Saturday for brunch. There were 8 off us and they were able accommodate us by pushing tables together within minutes. Our drink orders were taken quickly and our drinks were delivered just as quick. Same went with our food.I ordered the Tuna Melt with a side salad instead of fries. The salad was decent, the pickle was large and the sandwich was smaller than I expected. The tuna salad tasted good though!My husband ordered the Eggs Benedict and I tried a few bites. It was really good! If I come here again I am going to order that for sure. My brother ordered the Ultimate Skillet and the Clam Strips. I tried the Clam Strips, they were really tasty!Parking was easy which is always a plus. The service was brisk and to the point. The inside of the Cafe was decorated with Military memorabilia which was interesting to read and look at. Everything on the menu was priced so reasonably.

Totally a locals joint! Full of military memorabilia and greasy soon charm! The food isnt high quality, but for the price its pretty good. Come in, seat yourself, and experience of what diners used to be. No pretense, just decent food at a good price.

The boneless crispy chicken strips are the bomb! It is hard for me to order anything else, but I have managed it a few times. Everything I have tried has been delicious. The space is small, but the servers are friendly and make it feel homey. Check them out, share a smile, and meet some new friends. You wont regret it!

Good food, but zero COVID safety standards. Wait staff does not wear gloves nor distance themselves and tables are far too close together. A waitress even grabbed my shoulder... If youre high risk or immunocomprimised, definitely avoid this place, and given the medical climate of AZ right now, most people should stay away.

Unsanitary. I went here today for the first time and was excited to support a mom and pop shop. The faculty was friendly and both employees managing the front were wearing masks which was very much so appreciated during this pandemic. Not only appreciate, but necessary. After I had ordered my food and was waiting in the lobby, I was able to see that the cook was not wearing a mask and then proceeded to answer his cell phone, grab his cell phone with his hand and then use that same hand to continue making my food. I mentioned it to the staff who then asked him to get off the phone, but did not offer to make me a new sandwich and did not require the cook to wear a mask. Unfortunately, I will not be returning and I’m very disappointed by this. During this pandemic, now is the time to take every precaution that you can to encourage those to stay safe, to practice safe measures within the business and to promote reoccurring customers to ensure that your small businesses can stay afloat. I wish I could come back and support, but I hope that this review will encourage 40th St., Café to take further precautions as needed.
