Ive just returned home from picking up my intermediate-level Pearl flute and have been playing it for the past couple of hours. It was in pretty rough shape when I brought it to Jim Germanns shop and I am pleased to say that he has done a tremendous job of refurbishing it for me. I am far from a professional-grade player, but Ive been at it long enough to really appreciate the impact that his work has had on my instrument and, as a result, the positive consequences for my playing that have followed. With that said, I am pleased to recommend Jim Germann for whatever service work you may require. Based on my experience, I am sure you will come away very well pleased and satisfied.

When I was 8 years old, I inherited an old Haynes flute and though it had been worked on several times durring my life, this work by Jim (I am now 70) is the first time I have been able to hit the lowest C note without any effort. The highest notes without any effort. I am VERY pleased with this shops work.

Jim recently repaired and fixed several problems with my vintage Selmer Mark VI tenor sax that I bought new in 1965. I drove up from Tucson to have him work on it, as his reputation for repair is the best in Arizona. He did an amazing job. The horn now plays better than ever, I think even better than when it was new (over fifty years ago). His charge was very reasonable. It was a pleasure to visit and talk to Jim. He has a lot of experience and knowledge that he will share. Totally great experience. I strongly recommend Jim Germann as your woodwind repair expert.Update: A key tab bending problem recurred after a few weeks following the original repair. I took it back to Jim and he designed, made and installed an original reinforcing part, just for my horn key tab! This took considerable thought and many extra hours of work by Jim. He wouldnt accept any additional payment for this unique service and extra work. WOW, who does that these days? Jim is one of a kind. The horn now plays better than it ever did and I couldnt be more satisfied.

I have been a Professional Musician for over 55- years.I knew Jim in Los Angeles, more than 30- years ago.I haven’t seen Jim since the mid 1980’s.I was in dire need to have my Saxophone worked on.Jim, set the day aside, I drove 3-hours each way, and I can tell you this:“No one has ever done a better job on my horn, than Jim Germann”.In the 55-years of making my living in The Music Business, I can tell you, Jim is the Man and I’d drive double the time to go to him.Thank you Jim, for making my Selmer, Mark VI play like it was new again!!!!!!Nick De Mauro

I took my relatively new Yamaha YTS-82ZII Custom Z Tenor Saxophone into Jims shop just for a check up and I have never had it checked out since I bought it. I told him the only issue was I having was getting out the low Bb but I was told by my instructor those are hard in general for beginners so I thought it was just me. So after Jim showed me on the leak light I had a few issues that he would take care I was hoping he could tune up my horn and fix the multiple leaks. WOW when I took the horn home and played my first notes I could instantly tell the difference, it was like a new horn! It was the way it should have played when I bought it. The low Bb came out instantly and all the low notes were a breeze. The keywork was smooth as silk and it was never that smooth. On top of all that, Jim fixed a small blemish dent on my bell for free and it looks like its mint condition better than when I took it out of the box from Yamaha. Locals stop looking now and just take your equipment to Jim and save the time. He has earned a life time customer and me and I look forward to taking in my horn next year just for a check up. Thank you so much Jim for your quality work at reasonable prices. Excellent work and service!RickFrom Anthem AZ

To find a woodwind technician of Jims caliber was a stroke of fortune. I do not mind the 90 minute drive down from Northern Arizona to bring him my horns. His work is superb, his service and work ethic are second to none.

I recently purchased a refurbished A clarinet from Woodwinds by Germann and I can not even begin to express how happy I am with the instrument. It plays better than any brand new instrument I have ever tried and has such a rich, warm tone. I would 100% recommend Woodwinds by Germann to anyone who will listen.

Jim has been my repair technician since shortly after he opened in Phoenix a couple years ago. His legendary reputation precedes itself, and after one visit to him, youll see why. He always does top quality work at very reasonable rates. Not only that, but he wont tell you to get expensive repairs if you dont need them. At the same time, he will let you know if work is needed. Jim has given me the confidence to go into my Navy Fleet Bands audition knowing that my Yamaha EX alto is in perfect working order. If youre a serious student, amateur, professional or aspiring professional woodwind player, you should choose the best repairman in the business! You wont ever want to go to anyone else.

Great!!!!I want to add to this review since I have played my sax for a few weeks after he repaired it.I have lived in four states, 9 cities in the last 6 years or so. I move a lot. With this in mind, I have tried quite a few instrument repairs and Jim has been so far the absolute best. My saxophone plays better than it did when I first purchased it, and he did some magic to the keywork that makes it feel significantly better. I enjoy playing more, and my playing is better thanks to his work.Best of all, his prices are absolutely unbeatable. I have paid more for less work before. I have also paid more for worse work. I am very happy with the results, and they are results I did not expect.I finally found a permanent repairman in Phoenix. He did a fantastic job! Absolutely recommended!! If you are looking for woodwind repair, look no more.

Jim brought my clarinet back to life! Ive spent the past three months looking for someone to help with my poor clarinet. I even drove all the way down to Mesa. I guess this shop is brand new, because theres not much in it yet. Jim took ten minutes to look at my horn and knew exactly what was wrong. The next day, I had it back, good as new and with a very fair overhaul price. He was honest and didnt try to oversell me. He told me about all the different issues with my horn but told me what I needed to do now and what could wait. Im very happy that I found this shop! Ill definitely be back when I need reeds, service, or if I decide to upgrade to a new clarinet.

Recently drove up from Tucson to have Jim resurrect a vintage, mid-1920s Buescher True Tone alto saxophone in satin silver...He did a fantastic restoration! The horn had been stored for decades in its case and was heavily tarnished. JIm Germann cleaned it all up and helped this sax sing sweetly again. His overhaul and re-pad price was about half of what other repair shops quoted me, and he re-used all the original domed snaps and got the fork-Eb key operating correctly. Friendly and easy to work with! Professional jazz tenor saxophonist Brice Winston describes Jim Germann as an artist when it comes to saxophone repair. Now that I’ve seen and played my own horn after Jim reconditioned it, I’m also a big fan of his work and greatly admire his repair skills. My sax has an amazingly easy response and the key pad heights feel perfect under the fingers--intonation is spot on. Highly recommended to all serious saxophone players, and well worth a drive to northern Phoenix. Ill be back with more horns in the future...Five stars!!!
