OUT OF BUSINESS? I used to enjoy CTR and would love to go back. However, every time I try, they are locked up and lights are off. Even locked up at 5pm on Saturdays.

One of my favorite places to sketch and draw in squirrel Hill and Pittsburgh. Staff is always very friendly and eager to help. I always get a decaf Americano and it is always made to perfection. Definitely give this coffee shop consideration if you would like a third place to come work and get a good drink.

Decent coffee. This is an average coffee shop. Nothing special. I have been trying different places in the area. The shop directly across the street is better.

Extremely disappointing. Staff was very rude & demanding. Zero atmosphere, only hard chairs & visually uninviting. After walking to find the place & paying to park, we walked out & drove away.

The two fine young gentlemen working this morning not only provided excellent and welcoming service, but pulled a double shot of espresso in which the care given to their craft was evident in its perfectly balanced nature.on the cafe - pretty much a no frills comfy cafe, whose espresso tastes like a tastier version of European/Parisian espresso, instead of trying to mimic a fine whisky, maximizing every possible particularity of the bean like commonplace across the street ; ) different strokes, for different folks. Also, go here if you prefer not to walk into a sea of laptops at your neighbourhood cafe.Should definitely consider closing at midnight/1am again like the old days :)

This was the first time I had been in this shop in probably 10 years. They had a nice selection of beverages and snacks. The clerks were very helpful and nice. There was a small meeting going on. I saw two friends meet up. There were a few single people on their own reading, on the computer etc. Typical of what you would expect at a coffee shop. Very nice atmosphere, good items.

The coffee Ive had is better and less expensive than the chains. I have to defend what Ive read on staff. I went on a Friday evening and the person in front of me while showing they had enough cash insisted on charging for the $1.90 drink which wasnt going through. Relentlessly annoying customers take up time and rarely tip. Staff are appreciative and never passive-aggressive to anyone. Service is often slowed by customers regardless the efficiency of staff. Ill be back. My favorite coffee establishment in Squirrel Hill.

Really nice people. I went around 9. Like many places they dont warm up pastries or give you access to a microwave which is weird because they have chocolate croissants, scones etc which taste infinitely better when warmed. I had a scone not so great. Tried a mild coffee. Smelled really good, liked it.

One of the more quieter cafes in the Squirrel Hill area. With tons of seating and a wide menu of drink options, its hard to see why. Plus its open three hours later than other local cafes in the area. Which is good news for night owls like me. :)

Nice, open space with lots of natural lighting. Good coffee when fresh. Service alternates between fair and awful, depending on the server. (The actual creation of drinks is often pawned off on female employees by their male coworkers.) Quality continues to slip at this location.*Update 2/19: Male employee at the cash register took orders from a line of customers, loudly shouting orders at his coworker, not bothering to help his female co-worker *once* in the creation of any of the drinks ordered. (This was despite the fact that there were many times that he was standing at the register making chitchat while she was working her hands to the bone.) When I made mention of the fact that he could be helping her he laughed it off.Coffee Tree no longer deserves my money or my patronage. I will not support a sexist establishment. -1 pt for the continued slip in quality and for all the many years of female employees Ive observed carrying the overwhelming bulk of the weight of the work at this establishment.-----*Update 1/19: Upon entering the cafe one of the employees gave an audible sigh before sulking over to the cash register to meet my guests and I. It was as if the presence of a customer was a burden. Gave them the benefit of a doubt, knowing that working in food service can be extremely trying. I politely ordered some tea for my throat. That tea was then ruined immediately when the water to prepare it was taken directly from the coffee maker. Ive been informed that employees are fully aware of the temperature (190°-200°f) that the water coming out of that machine is not intended for tea that is not first tempered with cold water. My guests coffee was bitter and clearly made quite some time before it was ordered.*Update 6/18: Male employees still routinely passing off work on to female co-workers. Quality is also slipping. Downgraded to three stars. Still looking forward to updating this review when this problems are addressed.----3/18Good coffee. Good staff. Great space.-1 point because multiple times now I have observed male staff members (who were previously unoccupied) assign customer orders to female employees, only to go back to talking/doing nothing. Its extremely unprofessional and has happened too often not to make mention of it.I look forward to updating this review when this is no longer an issue!

Sub par Business Model. Only pays their Employees 7.25 per hour, people are poor in Pittsburgh and barely leave tips for most retail, and in exchange, you get poor customer service at joints like this. Try ADDA Coffee, much better service usually

Its okay-- Id buy beans from here (its nice you can buy in increments of a quarter pound) but the barista skills dont stack up to the other, phenomenal coffee shops in Pittsburgh. When I stopped in here there was a really nice barista behind bar, alone, who had only been working for about a month and wasnt weighing his dose (which is an important way to spot errors when youre making espresso). Not his fault, but he really shouldnt have been left alone behind bar with very little training or knowledge of how to make coffee.
