Trying to go to fleet feet and it’s closed until eleven. So walking and my mom says why don’t we try the pie place. So we went in. Amazing. The girl (one of the owners) amazing. She was a huge help in letting us know about the salt in the products. I’d give it a ten out of ten but that’s not possible. I tried to give a tip and the girl said no. Yins should try it. Once in awhile though. Not every day thing. Very very sweet.
I struggle with how I feel about the Pie Place. Why? The inconsistency of their pies--and Ive probably tried them all over the years. I can buy the same pie on multiple occasions & its never the same. Im sometimes disappointed by a pie I loved before. I adore their cream pies--lemon meringue & chocolate are amazing but my favorite is the banana cream pie, hands down. Their cherry pie is *mostly* great. Ive bought one for a party that absolutely did not have sugar added & was so unbearably tart that it was inedible. I agree with other reviews that the blueberries are tough & off-putting, a texture similar to frozen berries. I tried the forest fruit pie for the 2nd time last week & the tough blueberries and hard peaches have me convinced this is not the pie for me. I ordered a lemon meringue pie this past weekend & the meringue was done in a lattice fashion which left a lot of uncovered lemon curd & tough meringue that it was difficult to slice through. I swear Ive bought lemon meringue here with mounds of perfect meringue topped with twists of lemon slices. Their crust can perfectly complement a well filled pie, but overpower when its too thick. Its *usually* bland & heavy rather than flaky & light. With that said, I clearly enjoy this place because I get a few pies monthly, typically for holidays, dinner parties or birthdays. Ive had some of their desserts--crisps, brownies, small pies (more crust, less filling--just get an entire pie) & bars. They are good portions but the prices are a bit higher, comparatively, but these are clearly made in house (you can watch them working). You can also have parties or attend classes here, pre-COVID & friends have really enjoyed those experiences. Staff are usually very pleasant. They have a fairly impressive menu is espresso drinks.ETA: OK, I think Ive finally been disappointed for the last time. I bought my beloved banana pie (pictured) this weekend and it was totally disappointing. It was beautifully decorated with a perfectly flaky crust but the custard was flavorless. The banana slices were basically non-existent at the bottom of the pie. The banana was unpleasantly sour/salty from whatever its treated with to prevent browning. The pie absolutely did not taste like banana cream. Given the repeatedly inconsistent quality of their pies, its hard to justify the $18+ per pie, especially as often as I get them. Ive adjusted my rating accordingly. This is disheartening because Ive loved them so over the past 3 years.
Honestly the staff seemed very confused. The pies were very pretty presentation wise. But to be blunt and frank the pie crust was rock hard and one of the strangest crusts I’ve ever seen on a pie. Never again. Do not recommend.
The crust couldnt be cut with a fork. I had to saw through with a knife. The contents of the pie tasted good, but the crust was inedible, and embarrassing to serve to guests. Very disappointing.
Love this place! Great bread pies, all their baked good are fabulous! The pecan chocolate pie is indescribable!!!
Just visited The Pie Place with a small group for the first time today, and would highly recommend it! I had the apple crisp, and an iced vanilla coffee, and also tried a little of the Oreo cheesecake (wow!) and lemon brownie. Everything was super good! The iced coffee was some of the best I have had in a while, and was very reasonably priced. And the baked goods.... lets just say that you open the shop door, and the smell itself is good enough to eat! Very clean, cute shop, and I plan on going back anytime I am in the area!
Lovely and clean bakery. Conveniently located close to the mall and grocery stores. I ate a delicious ooey gooey fudge brownie and bought some chocolate chip cookies. Zoe made a delicious coffee drink. The young ladies behind the counter were very polite, friendly, and helpful.
All for supporting small businesses but I bought a cherry and an apple pie last week for Christmas. A lot of people thought the apple was great but in my opinion it wasnt anything special. The cherry honestly just wasnt worth the $20 the crust was soggy from how watery the filling was and it didnt have a lot of flavor. The quality just isnt there for the price they charge.
Great bakery in the South Hills!!! Go there!
I love this place so much. It’s one of the last charming, heartwarming places I can name in this area. The people that work here are so nice too. I think I’ve spoken on the phone to the owner a few times — I order my father a pie here every year for his birthday and one for Father’s Day. We got the Apple strudel for the first time tonight and the apples are still slightly crunchy - it’s absolutely a remarkable feat. We love you please don’t ever close!!
Made from scratch baked goods. Custom made desserts. Quality baked goods. Can order ahead.
Best homemade pies around! Especially recommend the butterscotch meringue, pumpkin, pecan, and strawberry rhubarb. I got a birthday cake once too and it was phenomenal.
Bought my wife a birthday cake here a couple of nights ago. The worker was very nice especially since I waked in less than 10 minutes before closing. There were only 2 cakes available which was understandable at the end of the day. I chose a chocolate sin cake.I was a little taken aback that it cost $22 for a miniature cake but thats what I get for waiting until the last minute (also for not baking her a cake like I usually do). I figured for this price it would be one of the best cakes I ever had.Unfortunately it wasnt. The icing was uninspired and that was the best part of the cake. The cake itself was extremely stale and dry. 5 of us had a piece that night and no ate more than a bite or two since it was so bad and we threw the remainder outThis was my first and last visit to this establishment. I will stick with making my normal Duncan Hines cake myself as they are much better, bigger and way cheaper.
After doing some shopping my sister and I simply wanted somewhere easy to sit and rest our feet and recharge. We spotted the pie place and it was perfect. No hassles at all. The baked goods looked awesome! My sister got a brownie but didnt want to buy a drink. The lady behind the counter said no problem and directed her to the water that was available. For me the selection was great. I settled for an apple tart which she warmed up and offered whipped cream. The brownie and tart were both delicious and my iced coffee was very good too. Definitely highly recommend the Pie Place! 👍👍👍👍
Service is always friendly here and also patient waiting for me to try and choose which pie I want. I find the pies very good. They taste like what they say they are and arent too sweet. Been here about 8 times in the past and flavors are consistent.
Great sweets.....supported by a nice hot cup of coffee!!
The Pie Place is the best!! The pies, pastries, and cookies are always delicious and so fresh! This place is a gem, were lucky to have it in Mt. Lebanon! The Dutch Apple & Banana Cream Pie are our favorites. My mom asks me to bring her Dutch Apple pies every time I visit. :)
Great people
Pies pies pies! Get the best fruit pies in Pittsburgh here!
My husband and I literally just left. This was our first trip to The Pie Place, and I was excited as I’ve heard great things. Sadly, because of poor customer service, I will NOT return. When we arrived, the girl behind the counter was filling and arranging the biscotti, which is located right by the door. We made eye contact, but she still had to be told we were not a part of the event happening (seemingly a father/daughter baking event). I proceed to tell her that my husband and I had never been there and I was unsure of how it worked. How do you order? I may not have made my question very clear, so I will give her that. But you do not take that opportunity to embarrass your brand new customer. Her response: “Well, you tell me what you want, I get it for you, and I give it to you after you pay.” Wow. I simply meant do you offer pies whole only or by the slice. But sure, you can embarrass me instead of asking me to clarify.
Love these pies. Have to stop every time Im in town.
Great little bakery in the South Hills area. Great selection of pies, pastries, cakes, cookies, tarts and ice cream. Slices as well as whole pies/cakes are available, and they do custom orders also. Prices are reasonable, and everything in weve tried has been delicious (especially the key lime pie!). They have a few small tables if you want to have a treat there in the store, or you can take it to go.
Traveled here from Michigan as I read this is the best pie in Pennsylvania. Wish the website had specified they DONT sell pie by the slice. Due to traveling, I couldnt transport a whole pie so ended up not buying anything. Smelled good though.
One the finest bakeries Ive been in and the nicest in the greater Pittsburgh area. Small area to enjoy there and offer coffee and ice creams for sale too. Products are always fresh and very high quality. Pies, cakes and cookies are amazing. Especially the chocolate pie, cookies and apple strudel Always have a nice section of regular features plus addition season items and holiday specific baked goods too. Highly recommended and I always stop when I am in Pittsburgh. Price reflect the high quality and homemade taste.
If you not from around here and prefer real butter cream icing over that whipped nonsense, this is the place to go. The house butter cream icing is the best Ive tasted in the south hills, maybe ever. Also, the oatmeal raisin cookies are great too.
The Pie Place made a beautiful 2 tiered 6 naked sweetheart cake for our wedding. It was delicious and looked absolutely beautiful in the pictures! All of their staff were friendly and helpful.
I bought one of the $18 peach and raspberry pies. It looked pretty appealing on the display, however once cutting into it, I noticed that dehydrated peaches were used. They were hard, shriveled, and tasted way too tart. I would not recommend the fruit pies from this place.
Absolutely loved the pie we purchased here for a Fathers day dinner. It was so fresh. I will absolutely be returning!
I love the Pie Place and have always had courteous service, as well as delicious pies and other baked goods. The owner and staff are fantastic and always willing to help in decision making. They are real pros and I look forward to many more years of their delicious goodies!
My girl went to a birthday pie making party here. It was phenomenal!! ♥️🤩🙂 Our whole family agreed (and they never agree on anything) that it was the best apple pie they have ever tasted, HIGHLY Recommend!!!
Lots of pie,yummy 😋
We purchased the mixed berry pie, which looked pretty tasty inside the pie case. The filling was loaded with berries, which is usually wonderful, but, unfortunately, the filling was too tart and needed more sugar. The blueberries were too chewy like frozen berries will do sometimes when they are cooked. Even the crust could not redeem the over-priced pie because it was gummy, not flaky. Being a pie lover, I purchase pie from nearly every city I visit and $18.00 is on the higher end for a medium-sized pie. This pie was not only a disappointment, its one of the worst Ive ever had, from a bakery, no less! They get 3 stars only because my husband and son liked the pepperoni rolls. Though in my opinion, they were too saturated. I like some of the fat rendered off of pepperoni before baking it into bread/rolls.
Recently ordered a cherry pie and a raisin pie for my father in laws 80th birthday. They were delicious and beautiful and made his day! Thank you so much!
Everything here is good.I recommend only going in if you have either a shot of insulin at the ready or can afford to crash in your car for an hour. The sugar high you will receive could result in a diabetic coma. Please use caution.
We love the mini pies and tarts!
Pretty good pie. Had Banana Cream and Cherry Pie. The Cherry was a bit sour, could have used a bit more sugar. The Banana Cream was good.
Purchased a blackberry pie from a grocery store that sells pies from the Pie Place. The pie crust tasted like burnt cardboard. The filling was Ok. I called to report it. The salesperson took my name and number and no one called me back. I called a second time and was given an apology but no opportunity to speak to the owner. The retail store that sold me the pie was understanding and I was given a credit for another food item. Truthfully I was not looking for a refund. I am a master pie baker and its unusual I buy one from a store . Everyone who eats a pie I bake loves it especially the homemade pie crust. Maybe it was an isolated experience that this pie crust tasted so terrible but I do not think I will buy another one to find out since I was not given a courtesy call to discuss the problem. Any business owner who ignores a customer complaint is an arrogant fool.
Awesome pie place and desserts too! We got our daughters 21st Birthday New York Cheesecake there. So awesome!!! Everyones going to love it!!! Enjoy!!!
Such a warm and friendly place. When we arrived, there was a cupcake decorating birthday party going on which just added to the friendly atmosphere. It was a Sunday, but even so they had a fantastic selection available. We have sampled their apple pies previously, from Shenots Farm in Wexford, and it is the best weve ever had. I think the secret must be in the crust. Even though this place is well out of our way, will definitely be back again.
They have the best baked goods in the South Hills. Their fruit tarts are my favorite. They also make a delicious rubarb pie.
Tasty stuff and they can custom-make what they dont have c on display. Just call a day or two in advance.
I called to have a pie delivered in the downtown area to surprise my husband after his bodybuilding competition. They were so friendly and awesome on the phone and very accommodating. AWESOME customer service and pie. :)
Pies are RIDICULOUS!! Definitely would travel and sacrifice first born for 1 or 2 pies. Words can not do it justice!
We ordered some apple crisp and a fudge brownie, which were delicious and each was big enough to have been shared. The employee who helped us was very nice and helpful, and the atmosphere was fun. The Pie Place definitely makes for a fun and tasty family activity.
Excellent pies, cakes and other baked goods. Their blueberry strawberry cheesecake is to die for.
The Mince Meat pie was the best I have ever had! Large, deep dish pie with wonderful filling! Well be back!
Delicious stuff! Nice little locally owned and operated pie shop. Been here several times and never had a sweet I didnt like.
Super nice staff. Great food and snacks. So many options and treats. I try to go back often!
I bought a package of mixed cookies. They were in a plastic box. The wedding cookies were good, just like I remember them from family gatherings. The macaroon was good. The lady finger was ok, maybe a bit stale? I am not a fan of cookie dough balls, there were 2 covered with chocolate. The sugar cookie, though pretty, was so hard you couldnt eat it and didnt have much flavor either. I tried to eat the biscotti, it was too hard. I brought everything home and put a piece of bread in a bag with the cookies. It did the trick for the biscotti, which was very tasty.Maybe in the future, dont put everything in a plastic box. Wrap individually to keep flavors from mixing and retain moisture. Save the plastic box for when a customer wants alot to take with them. It would have been nice to build my own box of cookies, but that is the prerogative of the bakery I suppose. Maybe I arrived between batches or something. The staff was friendly.
Absolutely love it. Prefer to make my own but when Im in the area I love their pies and especially the strudel.
A baggie of feta and basil rolls with not much feta or basil in any of them
The pie and pastries were better than anything Ive tasted in a while. It reminded me of my childhood...
Best pie crust ever!I usually avoid pie because I dont care for pie crust. I go out of my way to get pie from The Pie Place.
This place is awesome! They dont do pie slices but they have minis of most of their piece. They also have pie pops!
I bought a chocolate peanut butter pie. I wasnt impressed. It melted in the fridge. And was too hard when it was in the freezer. There was no Inbetween. It also tasted like store mix jello.
We got a Pie Place blueberry crumb pie from the farmers market at St. Davids. It looked delicious, but it was HORRIBLE. My husband and I both took a couple bites and ended up throwing it away. It was heartbreaking, as we had heard such good things about the place. As an afterthought, I really regreted not taking it back to the Pie Place, not for a refund but to make them try it because I cannot beleive that they meant to sell a pie that tasted that way. I am fairly certain that they just dumped frozen blueberries in the crust and put crumb on top and baked it- maybe? The blueberries had the wierd frozen texture with the slight bitter flavor that blueberries get when frozen. There was no thickening agent such as flour, tapioca or cornstarch, so when we cut into it, it just drained out, leaving behind soggy blueberries. There also was no sweetener or spice. The crust was soggy, not surprising under the circumstances and the crumb was sort of okay, but also a bit soggy and couldnt overcome the bitterness of the berries. I really hope this was a fluke.
Very good foods.. excellent workers
My pie was great and the service was friendly and quick.
The peach torte was awesome. Quick in the shop and quick out. Didnt have to wait forever
Good baked goods fe pies. Help is friendly
I absolutely love their cookies, particularly the Lady Locks, mini cream pies and fruit tarts. This is a wonderful bakery :-)
Great food
Beautiful desserts that are suitable for yourself or guests.
Coffee is meh, baked goods are out of sight - try the lemon bars.
Picked up a chocolate cake last week, beyond delicious. As always, well done!
Great find its a trip worth making
Great pastries, but the employee had inappropriate music blaring so I couldnt gove it the 5th star. Normally I would.
Overpriced for bland pies. The fruit was so tart, had to throw away.
I love everything in this place
Great apple strudel and tarts!
