Saraveza is a nice neighborhood bar and grill in Northeast on Killingworth Street. Be sure to bring your phone because the menu and payment system is all electronic. See the staff to get a table and use the QR code to view rhe menu, set up a tab, combine diners, order and pay the bill. Seeing that you have almost no interaction with the wait staff I wonder what the tipping protocol is for this service mechanism. I tipped my usual but that doesnt seem right. Anyway once you get to the menu, the choices are varied but you need to add them to your cart to see the full descriptions. Note that there are only certain options included in he listed price. Other options, including fries, have upcharges associated with them. The beer selection is not extensive but adequate and had some nice choices. You can request a sample if you are not sure. The large radicchio salad was indeed large and tasty enough but the dressing is somewhat bland. The primary reason for the 3 star rating was the brisket sandwich. I was intrigued by the description of in-house smoked brisket and the sauces but what I got was not good. The presentation was basically a 1/2 thick.slab of meat on a bun. The first bite was all fat. The second had some meat but more fat. I took the sandwich apart and, as you can see from the photo, more than half was fat. Seeing as I was pretty hungry, I shredded what little meat there was, put it back on the roll, and ate. The waitress did come by to ask how the meals were but made no effort to correct the deficiency. Perhaps this is what should be expected for this dish. Overall pricing of $10-15 for a sandwich/entree seems to be in line with the area. Saraveza has been around since 2008 so its likely I had a bad experience so stop in to enjoy a brew and sandwich. I know I wont have the brisket again. Feel free to try your luck.
Large portions of rich food, variety of rotating taps, super easy and convenient ordering app. The Mac and Cheese was old school thick and creamy, without being chunky. Also had the peach salad which was delicious, light, with perfect fruit and nuts. The cheese curds were the perfect kind - not cold or thin - breaded perfectly and fried until melty. If youre looking for good cheese curds this is it! Brisket was melt-in-your mouth with perfectly rendered fat. Went back a few weeks later and noticed several new tap selections, which is very cool!
Definitely some of the best overall pub food Ive had in a while. Cheese curds were great along with the beer selection. Fries were pretty hit and miss but overall still pretty darn good.
I like the location and outside dining set up for Covid times. Really a nice covered set up with unique table heaters in the chilly season. If you are a beer drinker you will be happy. This is their specialty. Or whisky. Wine is a limited selection that can be hit or miss. NO cocktails! Food is generally good but occasionally misses the mark. I have loved their soups and like that they have veggie dishes that work for appetizers. Big basket of freshly made fries to share. Salads are large. I continue to go here on an infrequent basis.
This place is a hidden gem. The prices are reasonable and portion sizes liberal. The Mac & cheese and meatballs was phenomenal. And they have heated seats on the patio, yes thats right, just like in your car.
Okay, so this place is truly the bomb. I shared the fries, ordered the brisket sandwich, and had SEVERAL awesome beers on tap because they serve the cutie little beers. But even if I didnt like the beers on tap I could have selected from their extensive fridge options inside. Seriously so good cannot believe how tasty the food was.
Food cold should have been fresh & a warm sandwich over peiced
Good food, good brews! Love the heated seats outdoors.
Saraveza has been my favorite drinking experience since the world ended in March last year. They have a great setup for cold/rainy weather dining and am ordering system that every place should try to duplicate. The food is not really the attraction here, but Im never gonna turn down cheese curds (the kale Caesar is fantastic too, and I love the fact that you can get their salads in two sizes.)
Great choices, fun midwestern menu, service could be better.Update: have come a few more times and it seems the service issue was an aberration. On the whole, great staff, great food, great beer selection. They have a cool thing with 10 categories of beer where they serve what they have in each category until it runs out and then move to the next. The menu forecasts what’s going to be on tap next for each category so you can see what’s coming. Also have a couple large fridge/display cases with a great selection that make Saraveza a well above average bottle shop on top of being a great bar.
Great pick up quart har draft beer. Nice selection and well priced.
Saraveza is a fantastic neighborhood spot! Their outdoor patio space and order from your phone options are great!
Helpful and friendly staff. The pasties are terrific. This will easily make the list to revisit when Im back in Portland.
Great atmosphere, family friendly place. The staff are really friendly and nice. I love the way they do their best they have tiers for you to know when some beers are finished what is the next tap you would get. Their food is very good. We had the burger which was excellent work potatoe salad and the chicken sandwich which was delicious with fries. Also their fried cheese curds are just amazing!
The brisket sandwich was heaven and the fries werent half bad; the chicken sandwich received high marks from a friend. The center-table gas fire pit was very welcome on the slightly cold Sunday The solo waitress was prompt and friendly, and the online ordering system was quick and convenient and discovered/grouped the individuals at the table.
Tasty food and unique and interesting drink selection! I had this tropical smoothie hard seltzer there that I can’t stop thinking about.
Great neighborhood spot. My favorite item is the fried chicken sandwich. The fries are pretty good too. If you like beer, they have a great selection of draft, bottles, or can beers. We often stop in to buy beer only because it’s like mini-mart of craft beer (to go). You can find good sours from Yachats, Upright, and Ex Novo.
The food is sistply incredible. The mac and cheese with house sausage is rich in flavor, and massive. The cheese curds are the best I have found in this region. I miss the mushroom stroganoff from pre-Covid times. The beers are always solid. The QR code menus are pretty convenient.
Great beer selection. Local hang. Great food. Good vibes!
Tons of beer, cheese curds are the best thing on the menu in my opinion. Also heated outdoor seating. Like the bench is heated to keep your buns toasty. Definitely the best Covid outdoor seating set up in North Portland.
First off, I originally hail from Wisconsin, so when I heard they serve Fried Cheese Curds I knew I had to try it immediately! Sadly, very few places in Portland serve Authentic Fried Cheese Curds. These hit the spot! Maybe a touch over-fried, but still totally delicious down to the last bite.Really nice tap list, with a special Burnside Wisco Tavern Ale always available. It was perfect. Huge bottle selection!Atmosphere reminded me of a hip version of a Wisconsin bar, replete with bucks and antler accessories.Sausage of the day was a housemade Brat and it was fantastic. They offer a selection of Pasties. We tried the special of the day with BBQ beef, collard greens, caramelized onions, and mozzarella. Quite a large size! Filling was great. The crust was nice, but a bit soft and slightly underdone. Wouldve been outstanding if baked a bit longer. The Poutine was phenomenal, and enough to serve a few hungry people!
We ordered the Pastys ( the beef & Rueben) to go and baked them at home. Portions are large, and the German potatoe salad was very good. Plenty of parking, and the staff was very helpful in completing our order.
My friends were raving about the food at this place, and I wanted to try it my last night in Portland. Called to make sure that the kitchen would still be open as we were running up against cllosing time... Was told it would be open until 8:30PM. We arrived at 8:25, and were informed that they closed in 5 minutes. I explained that according to Google Maps they close at 9, and that I had called ahead. Then the story changed... there were no tables. I feel that the actual reason was that she just didnt want to deal with us. Even after explaining our situation, that we came all the way up here on the bus and it was my last night in town... The server was rude and just totally dismissive. I would hope for at least some effort to accommodate us. Perhaps bring a table out from inside... For whatever reason this place is still only serving outside despite indoor dining being open. Im sorry but just because the food is good, that isnt everything. Good service, being welcoming to folks who go out of their way to frequent your establishment would go a long way. We were talking about going somewhere else and it was like she didnt even care. Dont plan on returning here again, thats for sure. They clearly dont need my business that badly.
Went here for lunch with coworkers. Never had a bad experience with the pasty.
Always a good place to go. Thankyou Sarra. Grant& Don. Another great time at Saravezas.5/4/19. Big things happen. Sold the bar. New owners say there going to keep it the same. Hope they stay true. 5/14/19. Back agen watching the portland🤞. You really appreciate a great bar.8/20/19 Back this is lovely, summer time.79o perfect. Aaah Saravasas. So far so good with keeping it all good.
Great beer, food, and service! Especially Sam
My experience at Saraveza completely exceeded my already-high expectations, which were based on pre-existing high reviews. The service was fantastic; those I talked to behind the bar were very candid in offering me genuine reviews of beers they had both canned and on draft, all of which were very well priced, and they went above and beyond to make sure my table was comfortable throughout our time there. A generous portion of the outdoor seating is covered and heated by both a small fireplace and heated seats, which makes it abundantly pleasant to adhere safely to Covid regulations regardless of the weather. Lastly, being from the South, I am always skeptical of any brisket or fried chicken sandwich I find in the PNW, but Saraveza completely delivered. The food was delicious and extremely well-priced. Despite being branded as a Midwestern-style joint, I would have questioned nothing if served this same food in the South, and that’s definitely saying something. I will definitely be back!!
Our favorite place to go to in our neighborhood. The cheese curds are the best!
The bottle cap tables were a really nice fun touch to the restaurant. We came in around 2 PM so it wasnt busy. They have a great selection in beers and food. Im from Minnesota and have been living in pdx for over a year now. Their cheese curds were good but I have had better (in Minnesota) they were pretty greasy. I was surprised they didnt have ranch as we midwesterners love cheese curds with ranch. The fried chicken sandwich was really good. The bread was great and the chicken was juicy. Service was good and very chill. For the deviled eggs I was very unimpressed, but good presentation. Wont be getting that again though.
Great food and brews, neat atmosphere and very friendly and helpful staff! Following Covid guidelines well.
Excellent beer selection! Taps frequently rotate and a wide variety of cans to go. Best fried cheese curds in town!
Consistently the best burger and fried cheese curds in town, plus a diverse selection of rotating taps. Love this place.
Awesome local beer bar! Cant recommend this spot enough!
Great service amid the covid craziness. Eveything was just a bit better than I expected, considering the price. Only had salads and sides but stoked to come back for entrees.GET THE RADICCHIO SALAD
Gotta love any place that utilizes tech. You do all your own ordering using a QR code at your table. Its AWESOME! Downside, they have a limited menu and were out of a lot of items when I went. Thats ok though because its about the beer and there is no shortage of that and even less of a chance of running out. You imagine it,they have it. If you are indecisive, put your trust in the wait staff or dont go! They have that many options.
Going Down Hill Fast.
First time here, not a good experience, told 45 min wait for a table… so many open tables outside.
Always nice.
Their phone based ordering system was easy to use during covid and lightning fast service. Friendly, hard working staff, and a good tap list make this a solid neighborhood hang.
A nice spot with good little selection of bottles and cans. The food was tasty and you can tell that their rotating menu is thoughtful, creative, and quality. I had the samosa pasty with a side salad and it was flaky buttery and well spiced. We hung out there for a couple hours and the service was good.
Cheese curds!! Menu changes seasonally and always includes well designed and executed salads, snacks and mains. Beer section is large and diverse enough to please even the most selective of drinkers.
Been coming here for years and can’t recommend this place enough. Atmosphere, beer, food, they have it all. Cheers!
Use to love this place big time! I’m a little older now, 12 years have gone by since 2008 when Sara opened this gem! Walked in and wasn’t even noticed. I assume if your 50 or older you can expect service to drop off substantially! Respect those who came before you bartenders, we have a lot of disposable income!
Great food and beer selection. Nice covered outdoor seating and friendly service!
Great brisket and beer. Can’t go wrong here!
If you like cheese curds then you must go here end of story.Their food is top-notch at a reasonable price. And while theyre beer selection is impressive their food selection is even more impressive. Thank you sir for always serving delicious appetizers and meals.
Saraveza is a many wonderful things, but 90% of the time, its just me and my kids killing an hour over a new board/card game and a pile of cheese curds. And I love that we feel comfortable there doing this.
The brisket sandwich was flippin phenomenal. Perfectly cooked and perfectly put together...all of the ingredients melded together to create the perfect blend of tastes. Cant give enough praise to that sandwich. My boyfriend had the fried sandwich which was also delicious. The seating arrangement didnt allow for many people to be seated at once, so we had to wait a bit. But that brisket sandwich made it all worth it.
Nice dive bar next to a speakeasy. Speakeasy could use more aesthetics but outdoor seating area is nice. The dive bar also has a decent selection of cans and bottles to go. Came for the Summer Strawberry feast and it was delicious
This was a very cool and chill bar that we stopped at for a couple drinks during the day. Friendly server, not crowded. Good draft selection and if none of that tickled your fancy they also have a nice bottle selection.
What an awesome gem of a place. Stopped in during a road trip to BC. Easy on/off I-5. Awesome beer selection and even better food. Pasty dough was on point, fried chicken perfect, and great fries. Cant wait to go back.
My favorite pub ever
Food was so good. Almost TOO good. Beer selection was also excellent. Brisket sandwich with pimento cheese sounded like a weird combination but OMG I was never so happy to be really really wrong about something in my life. Ill be coming back A LOT.
Always an interesting tap and bottle selection, good food too.
Great place to watch the Packers with people who love them as much as I do. Fun energy. Good food and drinks
Lovely, cozy spot for great beer and food.
The chicken pot pie was delicious. The side salad was the perfect addition. Service was just right.
Fair prices for beer, fast and friendly service, great local-ish corner tavern vibe, havent had food yet but maybe down the line. Reminded me of a few Cleveland, OH taverns before I fully realized the Midwest vibe.
Great food and ever rotating taps. The beer cooler has a wide selection. This place has a friendly atmosphere that is great for meeting up with friends or going in all alone. Packer games are a great experience here even if you arent a fan.
Great vibe. Great beer. Good selection of tap and bottle. Reasonable prices and discounts to take to go. I cant vouch for the food (being vegan), but the smell of the place isnt too overwhelming for a vegan. Always great service!
Great little neighbor Hood tap room with 10 taps of ever rotating local OR brews. Full bar menu with breakfast served all day. Cool staff, and bottle shop too! Street Parking can be tight on weekends. A few outside tables and close to PCC and I-5.
This place is great. Portland craft beers with a Wisconsin theme. At least thats what the bartender said, and he had an honest face.
Great place. Killer selection and engaging bar staff. Highly recommended.
Great beer selection! Awesome service and knowledge staff. Food is great too. You cant go wrong here if youre a beer lover.
Great beer selection. Amazing cheese curds.
Seraveza is Gold. One of the top beer bars in Portland with a loyal following and top-notch food. Although they recently remodelled and were bought out by Roscoes, the great vibe, quality, and service remain. Try a pastie and pickle plate with one of the oft rotated beers.
Saraveza was taught af. Beautiful service. Greatest fried chicken in the world. And I been in the world... and around it.... no but for serious its wonderful.
Im a Packers fan so love this place. Best cheese curds! They also have a great beer selection.
Beer Great. Service subpar. 4:30 on a Thursday and the bartender was showing signs of being overwhelmed. I biked up from SE. Probably pick another craft beer bar when in this neighborhood next time.
Wide range of beers with some no-nonsense great tastin food
Great beer selection, and always a great place for drinks and a few snacks. Prices are a little steep for me but still nice on occasion.
Great bar with an awesome selection of bottles and some on tap. You can take a selection of bottles home if you want. Definitely the place to run through if youre looking for a specific/special bottle that may be hard to find whether you make that trip before or after Johns Market you may easily find what youre looking for here.
Very chill spot to grab a beer. Enough space and chill enough to get in a game of cribbage or cards. Always tell my friends about those tasty Cheese Curds
A nice place. Would give it 5 stars but not a fan of fried cheese curds.
Saraveza impressed me with their adaptation to this new pandemic situation! I felt very safe!
A perfect repress of the Midwest in Portland. Great selection of bottled and can beer for sale as well as a stellar draft list. The food is also superb, they really nailed midwestern comfort food. The cheese curds are amazing and the pasty’s were delicious as well.
(gamenight-specific review) My partner needed a place to watch the Packers while visiting PDX, so we snagged a lucky table before kickoff. The crowd and staff were friendly and kind, and even with standing room only, food came out fast. The beer selection was great (obviously) and even with a house of full bladders, the bathroom was nicely tidy. Wonderfully friendly crowd.
Great food and killer beer collection.
