I went in to ask about a d3500 kit I had been eyeballing online. The district manager Chris was in from Salem at the time. He was extremely helpful. I told him what I had planned and he helped me find a used d3500 that had just been traded in. He assured me that it was in great condition. He saved me $250 in the camera kit. I was able to get a bunch of goodies and a warranty all for under the total cost that the new camera would have been. I also got a rental camera for the weekend of my photoshoots since j would have to wait for the camera to ship in from Salem. The rental was fantastic, got it for a while week for only $50.This location is awesome, everyone was super friendly and Chris is an all-star!! Ill definitely be returning for upgrades and photo printing.
This place is a dream. I’m new to film cameras and came in hoping someone could give me some info on how best to use it. The gentleman who greeted us was so kind and helpful. He didn’t make us feel silly for asking obvious questions and spent the time to make sure we got what we needed. Beyond that they have everything you’ll need for a film camera. Loved it. Will be back. A+ experience
My daughter is a chef in the Portland metro area. Since Oregon has no sales tax, I thought I would buy my next camera from a store in Portland. I started talking to Sean. He is so darn smart! When I got to the store it was just a pleasure working with him. Bought a Sony per his guidance. Everything went smoothly! All the other people I talked to in the store were the helpful and courteous also (thanks Kyle!). All in all, hard to beat the best!
Greatly appreciate this store and our associate, Luke. My vintage Nikon SLR locked up on a long and beautiful camping trip. I had lost hope and though I need to mail it in for service. Brought it in, explained what’s going on and Luke had a quick and easy solution I had not known about. Now it’s back to working! Couldn’t be happier.
Erica was so helpful! We had a great experience:)
Noticed an issue with a fairly new Canon R and 24-105mm f/4 lens during a brief stay in Portland, but wasn’t sure what the issue was—a defective lens or an issue with the sensor. One of the sales reps helped me sort things out in an incredibly prompt and professional manner, and wouldn’t charge me. If I lived in Portland, that store—very well stocked—would be my go-to photo store. Excellent service and professionalism!
My polarizing filter got stuck on my camera lens. Since The Shutterbug is around the block from where I stayed, I went there looking for a filter wrench. Unfortunately they did not have a filter wrench in stock, however. Erica offered to try to remove the filter from the lens. What she did was to put a rubber band between the filter and the lens. At that point, she was able to remove the filter from the lens. I asked her for a few rubber bands that she was glad to give me should it happen again. Thanks, Erica, youre a lifesaver.
Get a decent amount of photos printed there. Always great service.
There are only a few spots around Portland to develop film. This is the best one, and the staff are always friendly.
Was in Portland on vacation and decided to pick up a new Nikon Z7ii at a local camera store. When I arrived, the store I had contacted had just sold the last one and suggested I call the Portland Shutterbug instead. I dropped by the Downtown Portland Shutterbug and met Chris who told me they too were sold out of the Z7ii but would make some calls. Chris and the staff at Shutterbug went out of their way, contacted their Nikon Rep, and found one that had just been delivered to their Salam store that afternoon. Chris arranged for it to be shipped to the Portland store that next day and I got my camera! Really appreciate the incredible customer service of the staff at the Shutterbug! I would recommend them to anyone!
Customer service was awesome! Super understanding and super friendly. Kyle is awesome and was able to help me out in a major way and I am super thankful, and he has a great personality to boot. Everyone we spoke to was very nice and knowledgeable.
One if the last spots to take your film. Always nice. Always helpful.
Went inside looking for an Instax Mini and they didnt have one, so they recommended someone nearby that would have one instead! Such nice people, working there and also the perusers were very kind to us, too!
Went to Portland Shutterbug thinking about buying a new Nikon camera, upgrading from my current 610. Was considering the mirrorless or the Nikon 780. Sean was our sales person and went through all the options, pros and cons and what to consider. I went with the mirrorless Z7. Sean was patient, helpful and provided great information and I am very satisfied with the purchase, no buyer remorse whatsoever.
The staff here is real nice. They dont have everything, but their prices are good and staff seem to know what theyre talking about. Theyve also gone wildly out of their way to get me a battery when I was in a pinch, despite it being the hight of the pandemic at the time.
Really friendly staff, good film options, and quick development times!
Cheap prices, decent service... BUT ONE STAR. the problem is their film developing. i turned in about 15 rolls in 2016 and 4 rolls in 2021 and every single time, the film came back dark and purple-y. i know its not my camera -- ive developed film shot with a t4, a t5, and an ae-1 program. always dark and purple. this doesnt happen when i go elsewhere to develop. i suggest finding a different spot if you care about the tones/quality of film development.
Super helpful staff and very knowledgeable.Im able to use external flash on my Sony after the purchase of a inexpensive trigger and reciver kit they didrecommend me. They made sure everything works before I did my purchase.A great experience. Thanks
Got the camera that I was looking for a Nikon P950 in stock. The staff also was very helpful. Thanks
Went to pick some things up for a friend. Was late getting there but staff was willing to grab the pictures for me to save me from having to return the next day.
I moved to Portland in February from Florida where I had a very consistent processing connection. I tried a few shops around town but none of them really impressed me like Shutterbug did. Their turnaround time is the best Ive seen in Portland so far and their scanning quality is outstanding. The price is also really good per roll coming in at $15 for processing and scanning. As far as film development goes, this is the shop you wanna go to.
This Shutterbug is great! I found two cameras at the Goodwill that I brought in and Sean helped me load film and gave me a quick tutorial on how to use them. I am excited to shoot some film and bring it back in to be developed. I would highly recommend The Shutterbug and Sean for all your photography needs!
This place is SO wonderful. I got my first real camera from them, and the staff walked me through everything I would want to know about camera selection, use, and accessories. They clearly know their stuff, and theyre some of the friendliest and most helpful people Ive met in a while. Definitely recommend!
They are great and almost always have every film in stock
Fantastic service and great film developing. Color is next day and black and white takes about a week.
Best place to get prints in town!!
There was a problem with the film in my film camera, so my friend and i randomly decided to walk to this store, they fixed it in seconds with no charge!! thank you again :)
I came over from Seattle for work and stopped by, to get a camera body without sales tax. The staff help was really good, and person helped me out was knowledgeable. Extremely nice and was a fun conversation while trying to make my decision. Definitely stopping by when I come to Portland again !!!
Love this place. Very friendly and helpful staff. Theyve helped me unload multiple rolls of film from various cameras when Ive experienced difficulties. They develop and scan back 35mm film within 24 hours. Awesome!
Wow, what can I say! The service here is amazing! Sean is the best! Not only did he take the time to walk me through all of my options including bodies and lenses(I was debating going Sony or Canon) he also supported me after my purchase and even helped me find additional discounts and sales allowing me to stretch my funds even further! I love to support local companies but often it is difficult as their pricing is higher than that of online stores, but that isnt the case here. Shutterbug is spot on with pricing and at times even cheaper plus I get the benefit of not having to wait for shipping and getting to receive fantastic help from a knowledgable person like Sean. If you need camera gear go in to shutterbug and ask for Sean, you wont be disappointed. I know Ill be coming back multiple times to get additional gear.
Great service!!!...Friendly and willing to help.
Love this store while visiting the the Portland area. Awesome place to shop while in the Portland area with a relaxing atmosphere. Limited camera selection.Fun for the whole family and friends. Access friendly entrance. Clean facilities throughout including the entrance.Beautiful shopping all-around the facilities. Great cameras, souvenirs and assorted items to be found here.Be prepared for a little adverse island weather if necessary on the way in or out.Parking was plentiful once found and easily accessible. Spots were a little tight in some places. We loved the shopping and variety that was provided to us.
Love this place! Have 35mm film and much more! Sean was very informative and helpful. Thankful for the warm hospitality!
Great people working here! I have been unable to afford a new charger were kind enough to offer to charge my battery. Hopefully next I return will be for a new camera. Thank You!
I stopped by looking for a camera bag on a whim and found EXACTLY what I needed that day. After explaining what I was after (a bag to protect my camera and lenses but fit in my waterproof Chrome bag that I love) one of the team members directed me to the perfect solve all in about 2 minutes. I couldn’t believe how fast and knowledgeable the staff was and that the store was stocked with everything I needed. I highly recommend them.
I recently had a problem with my lens focusing properly. I called the store and Sean walked me through resetting the camera step by step. Now it works again! He was so patient and helpful; he’s my new hero!!! Thank you, Sean!
Super nice and helpful people. Very professional service. We needed some wedding photos printed and they helped us with the sizing and printing. They look amazing and they packed them up nice for travel and even wore gloves when packing them up so there weren’t any finger prints. Will definitely go back for future photo printing needs.
Went in to check out some nicer point and shoots and mirror-less frames cameras. Sean helped me out and couldnt have been more helpful. I was pretty obviously out of my depth with what I was looking for and he made it super easy to compare features and find out what I am actually wanting to shoot to make sure I get something I will be happy with.If you need help with cameras go talk to Sean!
Great place to get prints done for your pictures. The staff are always so helpful and happy to help for those of us with limited technical skills.
Sean and Kyle really helped me out when I came in with a 20+ year old inherited film camera that I had broken the lens off of. They were really patient and accommodating, explaining in detail what my options were and recommending another repair shop that could handle the broken lenses. In the end they were able to deal with the issue themselves, and they hooked me up with a great price on a used lens to replace the broken one! I come here regularly to buy film—they have a great selection of 35mm—and have always been treated with good service. Can’t wait to come back and get more gear from them. Thanks so much, Shutterbug!
Great spot, have passed many times. Was able to trade in an Olympian Digital 12-55mm for a brand new [Pro]master Impulse camera bag. Process took seconds to trade in and the rest of the time was spent conversing with staff and looking for a new bag and I couldnt be happier. I was able to buy it locally, same day at 10 dollars less than I could of on Amazon. Staff was great and friendly, definitely making this our companies new official camera store.
I got a camera online and needed help picking out a better lens. I’m glad I went to the store because the person at the counter spent a good long while helping me find the right lens. On top of that, she took the time to teach me how to use the correct settings for it with my new camera, connect it to my phone for file transfers, and saved me a ton of editing time by introducing me to a cpl filter!
I purchased a Nikon D750 from them about a month ago with the intent of using it for a week long photography trip in Colorado. I had an issue with the camera two days before I was supposed to leave before the trip so I called them right before closing in a panic. The employee on the phone was extremely helpful and knowledgeable and instructed me to come into the store the following day. I spoke to a different employee who also was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. They solved my problem quickly and efficiently which saved me a ton of stress in trying to secure a new setup for my trip. Cant recommend them enough.
I came in today with 35mm film and a disposable camera and my photos were completed within a few hours.. Being a traveler, we are always moving along and was fortunate with such a fast process compared to other places in town. Prices super reasonable. And they have way cool stickers!!
Marcus got my passport photos done in less than 10 minutes, and I picked them up the next day (I couldve waited 30 minutes for a same day pick up). I called around to other places to see if I could schedule an appointment, but Marcus was the only one to answer the phone. Thanks for making my life easy.
I have been a customer of the downtown store for the last few years. The entire crew is so helpful and I feel honest. I get the impressions they love what they do. My biggest kudos goes to Kyle. I always look forward to seeing him.I have never felt that I was being unsold.
I had the opportunity to photograph Little Miss Clackamas and was really hoping to get my film pixelated. Shawn informed me that I would have to do that in post. He would not look at the inside of my mouth.
If youre coming out of Baker City and happen to be the go to guy to shoot Little Miss Clackamas. Great place to get film digitized. 4 year old flautists love the pixelated work done in post.Portra 100, 400, 160, 800. They got it. I get a strong sensation of service and quality after coming here. Thanks Shutterbug Sean!
Forgot to pack my camera charger, headed to Shutterbug with very little expectations. Asked if they had my model, they were out but were able to order 1 in for me to pick up within 24 hours. Very impressed with how far theyd go for a customer. Staff were courteous and approachable. I recommend this shop to all level of photographers looking for equipment or film.
Every worker seemed to remember my name from the very beginning. Always a great way to start off an experience, being greeted and appreciated. Everyone is knowledgeable and helpful. And never once has anyone made me feel stupid for not knowing a ton about cameras. I know I could develop my film at home, but I trust these guys way more than myself. Well forever be faithful.
I go here because its close to get passport photos and other ID photos. the service is excellent, and the shopkeepers are very friendly and knowledgeable. Whether its digital or film, they are up to speed.
I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to go into shutterbug on a brief trip to Portland. Shutterbugs knowledgeable staff not only were more interested in helping me find what I needed (rather than upselling me on something that didnt need) but also made me a better photographer as a result of the tips they gave me. Not to mention this place is Family owned! Simply put, if you want top quality photography equipment and the best advice to pick it, GO HERE!!!ps to the owners and staff, Thank you so much!
Great service and had the new camera I wanted!
Just bought a Sony Ax33 here and Im already in love! I took it down to the Pioneer Courthouse Square to the festival of flowers to try it out with pictures and videos. Im overall very pleased with the results so far. Erica helped me through every step of the process and was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and had some of the best customer service Ive ever received. I appriciate her taking time to help me make the best educated decision on everything from my camera even down to the lens protection. I almost wish I could give this location 5+ stars. If you havent visited this location I would highly recommend doing so due to the overall experience Ive had.
Go see Chad at the Shutterbug in downtown. He will always set you up with the products that fit your exact needs. Not only that, but hes always there to answer any questions you have along the way. His enthusiasm for the products is palpable and sincere. Im really glad I bought my Sony A7 & Sony 50mm 1.8 from the Shutterbug rather than on Amazon or any other camera store in town with less personable service. The service is personal, because getting a camera & lens are very personal choices. I really appreciate and love this store and the many times they have helped me grow in my photography journey.
This Place is The Place. I come here for all my film needs. The whole crew treats me like family. I come in, they’re knowledgeable and have great suggestions for me. Super friendly. I recommend the downtown Shutterbug 💯
Come see Kyle or Sean. They were so friendly and knew everything about cameras. This place actually develops and sells film and vintage cameras. OMG!!! Love this place!!!!
This is one of those quaint camera shops that is keeping pace in the new digital world, while also keeping old style film photography relevant. It does have a decent selection of bags, tripods & accessories while only having the latest camera gear in stock. What they dont have in stock they can order. Prices are not at Amazon levels, of course, but it is staffed with friendly, knowledgeable fellow photographers & the fact that there is no sales tax helps as well. I didnt ask, but definitely smelled that familiar aroma of developer, stop bath & fixer so 35mm film developing is done on site. If I lived in Portland The Shutterbug is definitely a place I would frequent often!
I love shutterbug so much! The staff is always so friendly and they get my film developed SO QUICKLY! I only go to shutterbug to get my film developed. At this point theyre all my friends and my film always comes back looking amazing.
The place is awesome! I had lots of questions about beginning my hobby of photography. Michael was very helpful in my search for the perfect fit. He hooked me up with a camera in which I can take a beginning instructional class from a representative from Nikon. How awesome!
I dont see many camera stores anymore unfortunately. Its left with Amazon orders and not knowing what you get or BestBuy employees that read off the printed labels. This place was great and satisfied my photography side. I also got a vintage lens for an unbelievably great price, elements were in great condition too! Dont think I didnt notice your knowledgable employees either, they were great. I definitely know where I will pick up my camera gear in the future.
These guys are always super helpful and i’ve loved getting to know them. Luke and kyle always help me with my film needs and know exactly what i’m looking for! Plus they always have an excellent turnaround time!
These guys in here are very nice and very knowledgeable. My favorite is Kyle. He was super patient with me, no matter how many cameras I looked at and hes all around a NICE GUY! This is MY Camera store and Im glad they are here. I plan on attending the photography/camera trainings they have available for the customers, which is pretty cool! You can ALSO print your photos! I enlarged mine and they were pretty quality. I wish the store had more stuff but honestly, its perfect just the way it is.
Shutterbug has consistently delivered high caliber customer experience and quality 35mm photo developing/processing since day 1. Additionally, the level of quality and speed are truly unmatched in Portland (everywhere else will deliver uneven results with ridiculous wait periods). They receive every roll of film I shoot and I am always impresses.
Love this place already. One of the only camera sites open on Saturdays, the only one open on Sundays. Their film developing, printing and scanning is the best price in town. Theyve got a nice variety of new equipment, some old equipment, nice variety of film. This is my new go to place.
Great service and awesome staff. I was visiting from out of town and I forgot my cameras battery at home, so I decided to go ahead and buy another one. They didnt have a compatible charger to sell me but the staff offered to charge the battery for me! Thank you for the great service!
Excellent service, Veronica listened and explained her recommendations on a new Nikon D750 as well as 2 lenses based on information on my style of shooting. I will definitely be back, as they take the time to make sure you are buying the right equipment that best suits you, not just what is on special!Thank youFred
They were very helpful finding a good camera for me. Thoughtful and pleasant, much better than in the past. I want getting a high end camera, just a good travel camera. Very good suggestions.
Decent selection, though not exactly extensive. Great staff, knowledgeable of their gear, friendly and helpful.
Full service camera store. Great selection, competitive prices, and the staff is very knowledgeable and will help you find exactly what you need.
I only go to Shutterbug to get my film developed. They’ve always been great! Plus they get my photos done next day which is convenient. Thanks shutterbug!
Shutterbug has always been my go to for my film develop/scan needs (not to mention one of the more affordable place in Portland). They are prompt, organize, and I havent had any issues. The staff are welcoming and knowledgeable (Luke is one of the nicest and passionate photog in Portland). Highly recommended.
I have been going here to get my film developed for the last 8 months or so and have always gotten my film back with no issues. I like that they develop in 24 hours as I like to get my film back fast. Sociable and knowledgeable staff. Luke, Chad, and MJ are usually who I see and they’re always quick to help me and easy to get along with!
Definitely the place to go for anything camera related in Downtown Portland! Theyre always super helpful and answer all of my amateur-photographer questions with no judgement :) Ive purchased all of my camera gear here over the last few years, and have never had any issues. Great folks all around.
My new go-to place for printing digital photos. Their printing prices seem the same as the big department stores, but the quality seems higher, and theyre able to handle higher resolution (larger) files. Easy web interface for ordering prints too, and theyre ready in less than an hour.
Very helpful when I went in to buy the phone. They really proved their customer focus when I had problems with it and they exchanged it immediately with no questions asked.
Fast, affordable, film development. Theyll even throw it on a usb for you! The staff is also knowledgeable and genuinely kind. Pick their brains if you have extra time on your hands!
Love Shutterbug! Always come out here every time I visit from Arizona! The employees are great and I always have a very pleasant experience! The only place I will go to for film development!
Ive been in three times, and every time I got the help I wanted and then some. Very helpful and easy to talk to, and actually paid less than online amazingly. Im going to take one star off however because I had to go back to exchange a filter they sold me that was too small for the lens I picked out.
The staff were friendly, patient, and knowledgeable. They got me setup with all of the gear I needed, and did a great job of helping me out when I ran into an issue with one of my lenses. A big thanks to Luke and Kyle for helping me out.
Dont bother coming here if youre a woman or have literally any clarifying questions. The salesmen (yeah, its all dudes) are always rude & condescending, and will straight up give you false information. For example, I called them once to ask about getting some film processed that I had pushed a couple stops. They told me on the phone that they were unable to do that in store but could send it off to have someone else do it. When I brought said film into the store, the salesman (short, faux hawk) told me they could not send it off to be processed, but took my film from me before I could ask for it back to be processed somewhere else. I was confused, so I just let him take it. This same employee once attempted to mansplain ISO to me when I was trying to buy film. Seriously, you think I shoot film and dont have an understanding of film speed? Its a shame shutterbug hires people who act as gatekeepers to such a fun & vibrant community. Customers should feel comfortable asking questions without being made to feel like an idiot. Ive thought a long time about writing this review, but Ive been frequenting Shutterbug for over a year now, and Ive had bad experiences almost every time Ive been there. Anyway, Ive taken my business to Pro-Photo Supply & I recommend everyone else does the same.
Worst customer service over the phone I have heard in quite a while. The employee wouldnt let me finish my sentence before chastising me for inquiring about a Minolta Maxxum 70 Im trying to get rid of when they clearly state on their website they have used gear for sale.
Great customer service. Trying out lenses and cameras is great. Good prices. Best in town.
Excellent selection of all major brands cameras and lenses. Helpful staff. Worked with me on pricing when I replaced my entire photography outfit from film to digital.
Super friendly and knowledgable staff. I just got a new camera and Ive got all my film developed here! Can recommend
Daughter had picked up a used Minolta 35mm from Goodwill, and was excited to find a place to help outfit her as a bidding film photographer. Very nice staff showed my daughter the basics of care, loading film, and need to know bits about film.
For the past 2 years I have dropped film off at Shutterbug with amazing turn around, fair prices and quality handling. The location is pretty convenient due to its proximity to my house and downtown, but it never feels too busy and the staff always entertains my photo-geek questions with enthusiasm.
Downtown Portland Shutterbug is fantastic! Ive bought my Sony camera and lenses from them and they have always been so helpful, especially Kyle. Theyre my preferred place to develop film as well although I wish the B&W turnaround time was faster.
Always my go to place for photos. Only place I trust for same day developing, and the employees are always a big help. All around amazing place
Love this shop.. I am a repeat customer at this place. The staff is very helpful and most importantly they were gracious enough to walk me through various options to reduce the price of my camera bundle. Very friendly sales team.
My go-to place for getting my 35mm film developed. Affordable, quick, and great quality. They can do same day developing usually, which is rad when Im extra impatient. And you can get just prints or just on a disc or both. Great customer service. Couldnt ask for a better place!
Awesome experience here. Bought a 55mm f1. 8 for my nikon D3500 and the staff was awesome and helpful. Would be in there a ton if I lived closer.
Best place to develop and print in Oregon! I develop a couple rolls when ever Im in Portland and shutterbug developing and prints are fantastic. Not to mention overnight service. Dont forget to ask about the Sunday special!
I have purchased several cameras from a good number of the Shutterbug locations. I have always had a wonderful experience with all of the staff I have bought from. The downtown location is the closest to me and the one that I buy from the most often. The staff here always goes out of their way to make sure I make the best choice for my needs, give me a great value, and I know that they will be there if I have any problems. When ever I go in to buy equipment, I ask for Shawn. His knowledge of photography is always helpful and his opinions on lenses and bodies have never lead me wrong. If I need help with a print, Michael always makes sure that my pictures are fantastic. I absolutely recommend checking out the Shutterbug on Broadway.
I get all of my film developed here! They sell and process 120 & 35 mm! They are the fasted shop in Portland, I can even get rolls developed on my lunch break! The team is very knowledgeable and helpful,.. would jump through fire hoops for you for sure! Luke is is the bomb, he is always super friendly, and able to answer all my questions! 10/10 would recommend.#littlemissclackamasforlife
After my visit here today I have to say I am very very happy -and I will be back many more times. I got the help I wanted and I am very excited about the Nikon 50mm lens I picked up. Shane (sorry if my spelling is off!) was the person who assisted me and he was very friendly, knowledgeable, and pleasant to talk with. Listening to me explain the type of photographer I am, he fit products and information into what was spot on relevant for me. Half of the time talking want even about what to buy it was about places in the nearby area to get those great shots. I definitely recommend this place and the prices are great, even after getting home and doing more research online.I cant wait to share some of my photos using this new lens with Shane and the people at this Shutterbug.
Great service and advice. They special ordered the lens I was looking for and had it shipped within two days. Friendly service and patient employees. Also, no sales tax in Portland is a winner!
The staff here is always very quick to help me. Ive had multiple experiences where someone has helped me with my camera and also taught me something new at the same time. Long time customer.
I dont really know why this place has so many good reviews. Perhaps from hobbyist photographers? The Shutterbug looks like is about to go under every time I show up there. Still here they are-- I give them credit for that.I was never able to buy anything but lens caps at that place, because they just dont have anything available; backdrops, strobes, lens hood, c-stands, LED rings, and even sandbags... freeking sandbags, for Christ sake... they hardly have any. Perhaps they should change their label from Photography shop to lenses dealer, because thats apparently the only items they have available at their store. I miss World Camera so bad!
