Any time we visit Portland, Ruby Jewel is a must-visit. Their ice cream is superb, and they’re always kind and courteous. I appreciate the safety measures they’re taking while still providing incredible ice cream! Their sandwiches are brilliant. You can buy a pre-packaged one in many different flavors, or a featured flavor. My husband got lavender lemon and I got butterscotch oatmeal, and both were great! You won’t go wrong no matter what you order here.
Ruby Jewel is consistently fabulous. The quality of their product, staff attentiveness, inventive and fun approach to ice cream treats all combines to make it an incredible experience every time. Here for my birthday today and enjoyed a ginger peach ice cream reminiscent of a peach cobbler. Housemade waffle cones just elevate the whole thing. Go. Taste. Enjoy. Thank me later.
The best ice cream cookie sandwiches. I wish they were able to have everything open, but Covid. Still an amazing treat. My wife and kids loved them. Will definitely be back!
I tried Sandwich with Peanut Butter Banana Fudge which had very unique flavour and remind me of Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbon from Salt and Straw. I think PB Banana Fudge is a must try and signature of Rubys. One little tip for Icecream Sandwich is that you need to wait a little bit until the icecream is melted and soaks into the cookie (recommend Oatmeal). This will add extra flavour to the icecream as the crunchy cookie kills the taste of icecream.
I really enjoy this ice cream store. The ice cream is very good and the service is always friendly. Perhaps the best thing about the store is that it is not super busy. Unlike other ice cream stores, this one never has lines out the door. The ice cream has rotating flavors and is delicious. I recommend it to locals.
I wanted to love this place, but found the jewels and gems to be way overpriced - ordered one of each that were roughly the same size and couldnt believe that one cost almost $2 more. I ordered one that had a rhubarb jam in it that was unfortunately too sweet and overpowering, so it was difficult to taste the brown butter cookie or the ice cream inside.
Used to be My Favorite place....now its just overpriced premade ice cream you can get Anywhere, So Disappointing.....Covid just efffed up All the Good places Everywhere.
It was ok. The ice cream was really soft and started melting quickly- I couldnt imagine trying to eat it on a summer day. The tastes were good, but it was meh
Our favorite ice cream shop by far just forget about it sometimes
I got the strawberry one with the brown sugar cookies. It was just okay. Not much of a strawberry flavor, and the cookie wasnt very enjoyable. I didnt care much for the bite of the butterscotch one I had either. The lemon cookie + lavender honey was liked a lot by the group though.
Strange menu at present and for last 2-3 months. Just cookie sandwiches. No pints nor quarts of ice cream.
Love their ice cream. Super friendly. Neighborhood discount. Only making ice cream sandwiches right now to ensure I there aren’t infection control issues during covid, but they’re amazing. Can’t wait til Covid is over so I can get a cone again, but I’ll make do.
Its so delicious. the service was very helpful and welcoming. the bill was good for how much you get.
The ice cream here is great.
Delicious dipped ice cream sandwiches! They even have a to go container for treats to take home
Portland has many ice cream shops, thats for certain. For those of us who crave those sweet candy flavors, or have a hunger for cookies... Ruby Jewel is the place for you! Dont expect a goat cheese balsamic innovation from this shop. Instead, enjoy those delicious reliables like Cookies&Cream and Carmelized Coffee. Even better, make it into an ice cream sandwich!
Love Ruby Jewel! From the moment you walk in the door of this place and smell that delicious warm cone smell, you know you’re in for something good. The regular scoops are great, but I recommend making your own sandwich - they have some really interesting combinations to choose from.Ruby Jewel rules!
Best ice cream! So glad they have been there with us through the pandemic. Theres places to sit for two groups outside.
Phenomenal ice cream cookie sandwich, chocolate peanut butter one comes highly recommended!
The vibe here is really, really great. I wanted the dessert to be as good as the vibe.We went with a cookie ice cream sandwich with two flavors, the caramel with salted dark chocolate & the bacon whatever. The bacon whatever had virtually no bacon, and even less taste of bacon, and the dark chocolate was so good it put the rest of the concoction to shame. I just want a big bowl of the dark chocolate!Id bump Ruby Jewel up a star if the next flavors I taste are better than these. I hope.
Great place to get some ice cream. They make their waffle cones in house and also have ice cream sandwiches made with delicious cookies that you can get dipped in chocolate. Definitely a nice treat for the day / night. Friendly staff and taste testing provide a good experience. Overall a great little ice cream shop we have been to multiple times.
This is a unique little ice cream shop with homemade cookies and ice cream. They have great flavors I have never seen. We had the blackberry lime sorbet and toasted coconut. They were both fantastic. They do have a small eating area you can sit in. I would recommend this place.
I love this place! The staff is super friendly and happy to let you sample. Their rotating flavors are unique without being quite as.... creative... as Salt N Straw. You can do a split single scoop (recommended, as a double scoop is pretty massive) to get more goodness in one cone. The ice cream sandwiches are also delicious. Make your own to mix cookie flavors and ice cream in any way you like! Just be warned, these things are bigger than they look -- go hungry!
Ruby Jewels has some of the best Ice Cream I have ever tasted. They have tons of different flavors. The ingredients are locally sourced and the ice cream is hand made. If you like ice cream not going here is a crime The prices arent bad either.1 Scoop: Cup $3.50 Cone $4.502 Scoop: Cup $5. Cone $6
We got lavender honey ice cream in a cone and my son clearly loved it. We also got an ice cream cookie sandwich (chocolate chip cookies with coffee toffee ice cream) and it was out of this world!!! The vibe is inviting and family oriented. The music was great as well. It is a must see in the Mississippi neighborhood.
My fault for not reading, but the chocolate/peanut butter would be 💯 times better if it were peanut butter cookies with vanilla ice cream, chocolate moose tracks and broken up Reeces cups
We stumbled upon Ruby Jewel, where we could order individualized ice cream sandwiches with homemade ice cream and cookies. YUM! We had caramelized coffee ice cream in a chocolate chip cookie double chocolate in a chocolate cookie, and coconut with chocolate and candied cherries in a Portland cookie (the everything cookie). 5 stars for this unique ice cream stop!
Went in for an ice cream sandwich. Went with the Oregon Strawberry and Vanilla Bean with a chocolate chip cookie on top and a Salted caramel cookie on the bottom. All I can say is IT WAS AMAZING!! Will definitely be back soon!
The ice cream here is fantastic and the service is awesome too! They let you sample a few things, which is good becuase choosing is hard! I recommend the caramelized coffee ice cream. So good! Although the Oregon mint chip was good too.....
Yummy! It was pretty busy when I stopped by, but still the service was fast & friendly. The waffle cones are made in house and if you prefer something different they have ice cream sandwiches too. Skip the long lines at some of the other well known ice cream places in town & check this place out.
I found the flavors to be a bit too strong or not mixed to my palette. Unlike a lot of the other ice cream shops their prices are reasonable. I had a kids bowl which was a decent scoop for three dollars. I will go back at some point to try the cookie sandwich and update the review if necessary.
Great homemade ice cream! Homemade wafflecones are great. Smell of toasting waffle cones guide you in from the street! Friendly staff is really great.
The place was nice but we were not impressed by the taste of the actual flavors. The peanut butter was so overwhelmingly sweet (and not in a good way) we didnt even eat it after the first taste. The strawberry also had an off flavor that just ruined it.
Place is amazing. You couldnt walk by this place without stopping due to the scent of delicious cookies wafting on the street. Got brown butter sugar and choc chip cookies sandwiching a scoop of bobcat blend ice cream with almond butter crunch. It was out of this world bananas good.
If I could leave zero stars I would. The catering side of this company is horrendous & they were completely unhelpful. Kept on adding little clauses like there must be at least 20 of any type you order. They also refused to answer my phone call when asking for how to coordinate the pick-up, but still could text with me. How is it easier to text a long conversation then to answer a quick phone call????? Very unprofessional & terrible customer service from Erin who works there.
Highly recommend the lavender ice cream sandwiched in between two lemon cookies. Legit tastes like fruit loops. SO GOOD.
Incredibly delicious ice cream sandwiches! A Portland must. It smells like sugar when you walk in and there are a lot of great options. A lovely treat if youre on Mississippi street.
The best ice cream in Portland! The ice cream sandwich is unbeatable. Pick your cookie flavor(s), pick your ice cream, and got can even dip it. So so good!
The first thing I said when I walked in the door was mmm it smells good in here! as it smelled like warm, waffle cones.Loved this cute ice cream shop that offers unique ice cream flavors such as the two dairy-free ones I got called strawberry Basil ice and coconut chocolate cake. My husband got a warm brownie sundae and he loved it; the quality is very good for the value. I would recommend! Plus, they have a public restroom, which is always a plus for me!
I am from out of town and this was my first time trying Ruby Jewel Scoops. I went to the shop on N Mississippi Ave and was instantly greeted with great customer service. A younger gentleman named Ben was the one who helped me and he was very polite and friendly. He suggested many different flavors to try but I decided to go with the caramel salted chocolate and it was delicious! The customer service and ice cream are both 10 out of 10.
A towering single scoop (more like scoop-and-a-half!) of honey lavender ice cream is enough for me plus a few tastes to share with my family. Press it between two lemon cookies and you have ice cream sandwich heaven. Ruby Jewel has pleasing flavors dialed in. Go here for novel AND delicious ice cream for the whole family.
Great ice cream in under five minutes: who knew it was possible in Portland?! A perfect blend of artisanal and traditional—excellent in flavor too. 🍦Though Ive only been once, the entire experience was not only seamless but fun.Love the undeniably upbeat vibe of the place, which spills out onto the street in the summertime alongside an alluring caramel scent. 😋
Went to the Beaveraton location and was amazed by the honey lavender and lemon cookie ice cream sandwich. It was delicious and light. Wish I could order a bunch and take with me back to California
Yummy! Great flavors, service and prices. The lady behind the counter was so sweet and gave us the run down on the favs. The ice cream sandwiches were delicious.
It is hard to walk past this place and not get sucked into the store by the smell of the fresh waffle cones being made. So, when you are lured inside by the waffles, buy one of their amazing ice cream sandwiches. I wish the cookies where fresh (they are not) but Ruby Jewel ice cream is FANTASTIC. For $5, you can create a sandwich to share with your favorite somebody ;)
The anti-hipster, hipster ice cream establishment. They have yummy ice cream and tend to be more friendly than other options. Limited non dairy selection but they have a wide variety to fulfill any craving one may have should they be able to enjoy ice cream of the dairy variety. Also, delicious house-made waffle cones and cookies!
While I was a Stormbreakers, I asked them if I should do ice cream or donuts and the resounding answer was ICE CREAM! No regrets here - it was absolutely delicious. My go-to flavor is mint chocolate chip (which was delicious) but they let me try the blondie and I wish I had ordered that! Highly recommend!
Very tasty ice cream. I havent had an ice cream sandwich in a long time! Messy, but in the good way.
Food was amazing! Small indoor setting, but a very nice size outdoor area. Customer service was great!
Good ice cream and a fun street to get some ice cream here and just walk around
Holy smokes, you wont want to leave. The ice cream the serve up is nothing short of amazing. They have all the traditional flavors as well as some more creative ones. Their double chocolate is definitely something to check out for chocoholics. Scoops they offer are generous and the toppings and cones are made in house. The shop is spacious but doesnt offer a lot of seating so youll most likely be eating on the go so watch out for all the jealous stares youll be receiving.
Best ice cream in Portland. I tasted all the favors and it was so hard for me to pick only 2 scoops. Creamy and very tasty. You wont go wrong with any favor you choose.FYI: one of my favorite neighborhoods to walk around in Portland.
An up and coming Ice Cream shop on a very popular street. Salt and Straw use to be my poison of choice but this place also VERY good. Very diverse flavors.
By far the best ice cream in the city. Delicious new flavors every month along with always available flavors. Ive been here countless times and have not once been disappointed
I had the Caramel and Salted Dark Chocolate. It was excellent. The place was busy but the staff was very nice and service was quick and easy. Decorations were cute and not overdone. Great place overall for a dessert for two, or how ever many you want to bring.
The best. Creative flavors youve never had, and never will again, unless you return for more. Friendly and helpful staff that will let you sample your icecream to figure out what flavors you want to buy. Cant say enough good stuff. This place has been covered by a few food channel network shows for best in the country. They are correct.😎
Everyone I have encountered working at this shop is very friendly and helpful. The unique ice flavors are always good. You can make your own ice cream sandwiches, anything ice cream with the lemon cookies are good. Just walking by the place you can smell the waffle cones being made. Draws you in!
They have the best specialty flavor ice cream Ive ever tasted here. I came with my wife and ordered four scoops of four different flavors and every one was better than anything Id ever tasted from [redacted ice cream chain.] I think that my favorite is salted caramel, but theres so many more flavors I have to try.
Great classic flavors that arent over the top ambitious. Waffle cones could be a bit more flavorful though.
The smoothest ice cream in Portland. Ruby Jewel Scoops always has local seasonal flavors, and they are usually better then the competition. I have been here close to 50 times in 3 years, and I have never had a bad experience.
They have a true passion for ice cream without the weird flavors other local ice cream shops have. The SALTED caramel chocolate flavor is a must try. Great location.
This place rocks. Tasting flights for $8 gets you 6 good sized scoops, you cant beat that. Better than Salt and Straw, in my opinion, and you dont have to deal with huge lines. I love Ruby Jewel.
Love Ruby Jewel, but my favorite sundae toppings keep disappearing. Bring back some nut choices and whipped topping.
My fiance and I came here last weekend and we werent very impressed. The ice cream was ok but definitely not the best, cookies were decent, and the toppings were just ok. Both of us felt like we wasted the calories and would have much preferred What The Scoop who was way better ice cream and the best cone ever. Not sure if we will be back.
There was nothing wrong with Ruby Jewel s, but it came up a little short of 5 stars. The salted Carmel was excellent, while the cookies & cream was just okay. Only had a single scoop waffle cone, so not a commentary on sundaes or sandwiches.
A single for $5.50 would have been steep for a great cone, and mine wasnt great. The cone itself was super stale and had a hole at the bottom, so it dripped chocolate fudge stains all over my clothing. The ice cream was good, but not as good as the price would suggest.
Great ice cream with the bonus option of building your own ice cream sandwich. If you like ice cream, Ruby Jewel should be on your list to try.
Great service amazing ice cream sandwiches. Try the brown butter cookies and nutter butter ice cream it is amazing.
Super good unpretentious ice cream. Cool place, good music, smells awesome. Line was significantly shorter than salt and straw. It was delicious and they dont sell weird flavors.
This is the best hand made ice cream in Portland, I wish they had more stores!
Delicious, with flavors that were not merely novel, but actually good. They had honey lavendar ice cream, and while Im not usually one to think of pink flowers as edible, the flavor was perfectly balanced between sweet and aromatic/florid. I found the mint in the mint chip to be a little overwhelming after just a few bites, but the salt and dark chocolate was delicious through-and-through. The lemon cookies are to die for-- I recommend crafting your own cookie sandwich.
The icecream is delicious. I got a single cup and I got two huge scoops in that small thing! The cup is biodegradable so easy on the enviroment. Just because Im lactose intolerant doesnt mean I wont come back. They do have 1-2 dairy and gluten-free options.
Margarita Ice on a in-store baked waffle cone- absolute perfection on a hot day ! The smell of the cookies baking stays with you for hours...
They’re closed.
Creative flavors that are inspired (not odd). LOVE this place. Upbeat and friendly service.
Just heavenly to order a cookie with ice cream inside, they make the cookie sandwich right in front of you and it’s so delicious.
The smell of the fresh made waffle cones always gets me to stop in. I had a cardamom ice cream sandwich with lemon cookies and it tasted just like the best bowl of fruit loops youve ever had. Ruby Jewel is a must on Mississippi in the summer.
Great ice cream selection, but their non dairy selection is super limited. The banana faux ice cream is straight up nasty. The strawberry basil was tasty, but its a sorbet. So, if you cant have dairy and youre craving ice cream this isnt the place to go
Decent ice creams, nice flavors. Ice cream sandwiches are nice, but not the best Ive had. I like that they are hand-made ice creams.
Want great ice cream but dont want to wait in line for 2 hours like some other places in the city? This is the place for you. Just dont tell anyone else, because we dont want to ruin it.
Home made ice cream and they also have non dairy. Staff is polite too.
Rudiest girl working behind the counter. Walked 15 mins before closing and just give us the worst stare. Im changing this star to reflect the management responding to my email. Thank you for following up so fast.
