I didnt know I liked cappuccinos until I had one here. Thank you.Charming neighborhood cafe with tasty pies. I enjoyed my visit.I also need 200 words to pad my Google review numbers, so consider everything after this as filler. Filler, like warm feeling you get after splitting a slice of pie and gourmet tasting coffee with your gal. Enjoying the sidewalk sun at a bistro table watching this slice of Portland walk by. The ambient conversation of neighboring bars reassuring as dusk stretches ahead and the evening ahead hangs ripe with potential.Street parking available.
I really wanted to love Bipartisan (it’s in a great location, a lot of effort has been put into its design, the menu has a good variety of options, and it’s open an hour before most other cafes which is fantastic when you want to get up and at ‘em in the morning) however I’m sorry to report that I left underwhelmed with my experience there today. Perhaps this visit was an anomaly so in the spirit of fairness, I have laid out the pros and cons below.Pros:- open early on a weekend- great outdoor seating on the street nearby- good menu options- one of the staff members was incredibly helpful when it came to a dietary concern- I so appreciate this.- good range of menu options- the gluten free deli sandwich was very good (hard to accomplish on gf bread)- they have a curbside window for pandemic precaution food pick upCons:- the food took forever to arrive (we were there early in the morning so perhaps they were still getting ready for the day)- they mixed up two of our orders which was an incredibly frustrating and disappointing discovery at the top of our hike some hours later when we stopped for lunch- two of the servers (not the server who helped with my dietary concern) really weren’t very attentive. This is fine early on a Sunday morning when someone is tired and just trying to do their job, I get that- I don’t expect you to be best friends with me- but they could have made the effort to make sure our order was correct (two people across two different orders received the wrong item), I wouldn’t bother mentioning this if our order had been correct. The pros were on point however the cons made me consider whether I would visit again rather than go to another nearby cafe so 3 stars felt fair.
This is one of my favorite local coffee shops that I most often frequent. Cold brew coffee, and espresso drinks are solid. The pastry selection is top notch as well as their offerings for Bagels/ Bagel sandwiches (the lox sandwich is great!). Overall a great place to drop by for a brew or hang inside/on the patio with a book in hand.
This has been the last time I drive all the way here for them to be closed. Always closing early many times I come here, but at least they left a note this time. Inconsistent hours. Very inconvenient that this shop closes so early when its already only open until 6 instead of their old hours until 9. Edit: Lo and behold they have been closing as early as 4pm this week. I suppose Ill find a new coffee shop to visit. RIDICULOUS
This place has such good pie.Everything else about it is cool. The vibe is very friendly and fun, Ive never had a drink there that I didnt like, the prices are comparable to any similar establishment. But the pie... Im a pretty big pie fan to begin with, but I want to marry this pie and have its babies. I dont even know which kind, because every kind that Ive had there has been phenomenal. But if I had to go pie monogamous it would be with the marionberry, for sure.Theyre matcha latte is also very good, but it is less sweet than a lot of other places. If that is your jam I would absolutely recommend checking that out as well.
Their pie is amazing! But any time over the past few years I have attempted to order a drink its been wrong. Every time. Youre thinking I must order a complex beverage. But I dont. I order either a vanilla or plain latte. Thats it. So if youre looking for some pie, look no further! But if youre looking for coffee, keep searching.
If youre into a lived in experience this is for you. Simple decor and furniture that has been used for quite some time. Comfortable for sure. Its the sort of place you can plunk down in for quite some time and it looks like many people does I saw many laptops and outlet strips. They serve breakfast and lunch. I was satisfied with my bagel sandwich and tea.
Great coffee, hands down authentic Portland coffee shop. The staff has always been fantastic. April who has worked there and been around the neighborhood for a long is both a good batista and super friendly when I have seen her at the pub.
I have been patronizing by Bipartisan for A good long while now, and there are a couple things lately that have been irritations amongst mostly non-irritating experiences. The first one is… And this is happened to me twice now… I’ve looked them up on Google and the hours on Google say they close at 6 PM. NOT TRUE!! They close at five, and why they can’t take the time to let Google and other online places know this, I haven’t a clue …BUT THEY DEFINITELY SHOULD!!The other thing is they’ve stop serving croissants, and their breakfast croissant was my favorite. It’s always the favorites that are the first to go.So if anyone from by Pardison is reading this, please get online and take the few minutes it takes to update your hours…please!!!
Cute place right next to a public outdoor seating area. Excellent pie and friendly staff.
Friendly, quick service. Still no indoor seating. They were out of chai. I hope to be able to enjoy their indoor atmosphere again soon!
I have been to the cafe before but finally picked up a pie for takeout last week after a friend told me they have the best key lime pie around. He was right! Will definitely be taking back my pie tin to try another flavor--they all look so good!
Best iced mocha Ive ever had.
A neighborhood staple for years, they serve up hot and ready-to-eat items, great coffee and tea drinks. Their baked goods are incredible, especially their pies. During Covid-19, theyve remained open at a limited capacity, which I am grateful for.
Delicious crafted drinks and great pies! During the pandemic, Bipartisan Café has a walk-up window at the front door to take orders through a speaker (use of mask / face covering required). After placing an order, the pick up window is located on the side of the building. Quick, friendly service!
Coffee is okay but staff is very rude. Go to Hungry Heart across the street, they actually treat you like a person.
Was desperate for a birthday Coconut Cream Pie, it’s her favorite. I took a chance on this pie and OMG. This pie was quite possibly the best Coconut Cream Pie we have ever had. She is a connoisseur and she gave it an A+++.The pie was rich and creamy with the perfect coconut flavor and the crust reminded me of the consistency of that of a cream puff. It’s was light, the texture was perfect, and it was delicious. We will be trying the banana cream and chocolate peanut butter cream pies next. This pie was worth every penny. Highly recommended!!!
A few times that I have gone here and ordered a bagel and a latte the food and drink come out fine but it seems like they always make the food first and let your hot coffee sit where it always ends up lukewarm which is annoying as hell .Ordered a matcha latte and either the barista doesn’t know how to make one properly or they use very very cheap matcha powder . The matcha was bitter and unfortunately I was already on the highway before I could go back and ask for another one .It’s the closest coffee shop and I still try to support them but usually just make my orders super simple in hopes it doesn’t get messed up .The pastries are great and the service is friendly and prompt just need a little work on their coffee game . Nice place to pick up pastries .
The pie here is fantastic especially the key lime. The seasonal marionberry cream is also great if you can ever find it. Highly recommend for a sweet treat!
We just moved into the neighborhood and have given this place a good amount of tries so far and have been disappointed. First off the staff has not been very friendly at all and not helpfully when you place an order online, just let you stand out there waiting without saying anything to you at all.Secondly, we all understand there is still a pandemic going on but to turn away business because you don’t have a credit card on you is absurd. The CDC has already come out saying it is not touch transfer. A lot of people either don’t have debit or credit cards or don’t carry them with them at all times. Do you not want the business??Last time I went in I wasn’t carry a card with me and the staff said that I couldn’t enter my card number in. Which I no is not accurate, I have worked with a lot of different POS systems and you can always manually enter a card number in because what happens when a card doesn’t read, you have to enter it in. Just another example of them not caring and not wanting east business.I won’t be coming back unless the customer service gets better.
Need ur papers to go here.
Very Pleasant people they are always nice there
I used to go to this place all the time for years when I was a driver of line 15 for trimet, Havent been here for a while and I dont know whats going on I realise pandemic, but you know what Id still try to be nice to a customer whos trying to order instead of being a snarky witch
This used to be my favorite cafe in Portland but now the food is sub-par and the service is too. Its sad but since covid this place has gone downhill.
A longtime favorite. Pie with a friend. Coffee on the go. Sandwich with a good book in the overstuffed chair by the window. And now, super safe, no-contact food orders to go, meaning frozen pipes baked at my house.
#mainstreet feels. #bestfood wins! Cute, fun all the coffeeshop food, coffee and pies. and vegan choices!!!! Yay! Ty for still being open!!!!
The barista was lovely and helpful! She recommended the raspberry rhubarb pie to try. We also tried the peach blueberry pie, the cold brew, and an iced latte. That was some of the most delicious pie Ive had! The peach blueberry was outstanding! The cold brew was really tasty! The knick knacks and pictures on the walls are great, I kept finding googly eyes everywhere! We will definitely come back when were in town!
Just ordered a strawberry-rhubarb whole pie along with some of their raspberry crumble bars (gluten free & vegan for dear allergy-prone friends) and it was all top of the line delicious. It was ready for the time arranged and I am so grateful so that I could host a socially-distanced social hour in my yard for a few friends. Thank you!
We absolutely love their pie...Happy Pi Day!
Just a great. Eighborhood place.
Covid safe! Missed their lattes, honestly my fave coffee in Portland.
Excellent choices of vegetarian breakfast options, and incredible coffee
Fantastic friendly service. Super safe COVID protocols. Great selection of goodies & THANK YOU for having both caff & non-caff chai options that are not god-awful syrupy sweet concoctions! Couldn’t be happier.
I stopped here today for a house coffee. Gave me a mask to wear while coffee being made. Coffee tasted great. People were friendly. Gave 20 percent tip. Will stop by again with my own mask Thanks guys
The coffee and food were tasty, with a variety of options for food sensitivities. I really enjoyed the atmosphere of this place as it is more collaborative, like old coffee shops used to be. Sure, you can come and do work here, but you also have a space for meeting of minds, and meeting your neighbor. Good for all walks of life.
Good food prices are reasonable you can only use a credit or bank card to pay however no cash everything is done from outside out of the rain. They hand you your order through window
Pie make me die. Need more. Key lime suplimbe. Thanks ser
A longtime favorite. Pie with a friend. Coffee on the go. Sandwich with a good book in the overstuffed chair by the window. And now, super safe, no-contact food orders to go, meaning frozen pies baked at my house.
Great food and vibe!!Without a doubt, Bipartisan Cafe makes the best pies in the Portland area!💥🥧 They have so many daily pie options in fruit, cream (made with homemade whipped cream😋), vegan, and gluten-free!As I find it difficult to narrow my choice down past fruit or cream, I just get one of each✌🏻🧔🏻I live in inner SE, and i think it’s totally well worth my making the occasional special trip to get the hook-up!
Open early, good selection of breakfast eats and coffee. Easy walkup ordering and separate pickup window.
Not super nice folks taking orders and hubby mentioned it felt dirty inside. It’s an older building but I can totally see why this place is popular. There’s not any other place on these few blocks to get coffee, sandwiches and pie. It’s a great people watching spot and I loved looking at the art.
First time. Got lucky and found the last dirty table. Cashier got order wrong. Had to resubmit. Bagel was over-toasted. Asking for utensils seemed to be an oddity. Entire place was packed with students on their laptops. Interesting place.
Delicious coffee. Great food. Excellent people.
Waited 20 minutes for two lattes and watched them serve everyone else. Then when I finally got my order they messed it up. Ive always tipped well here and its disappointing. Wont be going back.
Great atmosphere! It’s hard wood floor suggest it been around a long time. We shared and egg sandwich croissant. It was very tasty and had very fresh slices of tomato on it. I highly recommend this place for a coffee or a quick snack.
This is an adorable little cafe! I had an oat milk latte and a bagel with cream cheese plus tomato. Both were very delicious! They cafe is very vegan friendly.
I will be back.
Services is quick although lacking in friendliness. Coffee is great!
A really neat little cafe with a unique ambiance. The various political posters and propaganda are pretty random and seem to be plastered about with no real pattern but thats what makes it fun. They make a great cup of coffee and the open-faced cheese sandwich I had was quite good for its single digit price tag. My spouse had the salmon-lox which she quite enjoyed. Next time Im in montavilla Im definitely stopping by again.
Favorite coffee and pie, in Montevallo. Full of character.
This coffee shop feels like a very beloved local gem. Lots of vegan options, lots of customers. Quirky interior design, and people going there for all sorts of things - job interviews, dates, work meetings, etc. The staff are nice, the food is decent. My one big gripe with this shop is that the tabletops and the floor, in particular, are VERY dirty. Like almost shockingly dirty. And there are about 5 people working behind the counter at the same time. I often think to myself, can one of you guys just go around and sweep? Can I grab the broom and sweep for you?? It makes me wonder if it is very dirty behind the counter? I hope not though, because I do genuinely like this shop.
Really bad service. Coffee took way too long with multiple staff just sitting around talking behind the counter while multiple customers were waiting. We finally get the coffee it’s only filled up half way (not what any other coffee shop in town I’ve been to does when they give you room for cream)
The coffee was great and smooth and what got me is despite how busy they are, the employees dont rush you when your a newbie in town and I wanted an explanation of the special coffees. Im from CA and we dont roll this way! The customers who were hanging out have good personalities too which makes this place tick. Or am I just a nice guy? Here for the Blooms to Brews Marathon weekend and Ill be back!
Drinks are good.....my rating is based off the dirtiness of the place. I like my lavender latte but when I went to order a cookie there was a fly trapped in the glass display...... They could use a good dusting and wipe down.... Just feels kinda gross in there
Very relaxing environment. Very peaceful. While waiting for my Jasmine pearl tea to steep, Ive noticed other customers seemed to share my mentality. Whether itd be on your laptop doing work or sharing a beverage and food with close friends or loved ones.
I am very picky how my cappucinno is made, and this Cafe didnt dissapointed not even once so far.Good tasting coffee, and great service!
Had a delicious tuna melt that really hit the spot!

Used to be a great place we frequented often. I’ve lived in the neighborhood for 12 years and have recently decided to give up hope of this old favorite spot making a positive change (and I’ve been hoping for several years, now). I’m sure the pie will remain delicious as will some of the other menu staples. But the atmosphere and service sours the food. A visit today feels angry, noisy, and weirdly snobby (for what, I don’t know). Sorry, old friend. You lost our loyalty.
Amazing pie! My friend and I each ordered something different so we could try two. Both yummy! Good quality coffee. Atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Not the place to go if you want a quiet space, as it is generally crowded. But, if you are good with that, it is well worth a visit.
This is my favourite coffee shop in the Portland area. They serve good coffee, food, and pies. Their political bipartisan theme is fun and I love the neighbourhood vibe. It can be a bit overrun with people depending on the time, but Ive always found a seat. I generally appreciate the music choices, which can be eclectic!
Wonderful food and atmosphere. The staff is wonderful and very helpful. Great vibes all around.
The best pie in all of Portland accompanied by great coffee (Water Avenue). Plenty of seating, with a good mixture of 2-tops and 4-tops. Staff is always very helpful and accommodating. Food is what youd typically find in a cafe, with a mixture of sandwiches, bagel sandwiches, salad, and soup. Music and conversation can make it a loud coffee shop, so if you want a place to read or work quietly be sure to bring headphones. Overall, it is one of my favorite Portland spots.
I used to love this place and it is okay, But the last couple of times I was there if felt really dirty and run down. The counter people need to cover beards and armpits. It could use a deep, deep clean and some furniture attention.
Really good service!
As a coffee shop, Bipartisan rules, in the best 90s slang way. Great tasting coffee and espresso drinks, with of course milk options. 50 cent refills may seem stingy but keep in mind people sit here for hours working on their computers. When it comes to the food, however, its a toss up. Soups and bagels are always a good option, but the rest of the menu is a bit overpriced for the quality. Overall, the atmosphere is calm enough to chat, type, eat, and chill.
Definitely my main neighborhood hang. Great staff, great food and drinks and cool vintage political posters on the wall. Despite the name... Very liberal.
Busy but so good! Great food. Better coffee.
One of the most comfortable couches in a coffee shop ever!Great atmosphere. Busy, nut not crowded. Quiet enough to read. A few comfortable couches as well as tables and chairs. Fantastic historical American documents fill the walls.
LOVE their pies. If in season have some Strawberry Rhubarb. Havent had a slice I didnt like. $5 down payment (returnable) on the tin if you buy a whole pie. Funky little Portland cafe with lots to look at on the wall.
Come for amazing coffee, stay and have pie that is as good Id not better than your grandmas! The strawberry rhubarb is amazing!!! The atmosphere is humming with local and a laid back vibe.
The Bipartisan has a real Portland weird vibe with hardwood floors, mismatched chairs and tables and local working on their lap tops or reading. They are known for their great homemade pies but their lunch selections are great too. I had the toasted turkey sandwich today and it was excellent.
Good coffee, great pie and sweet atmosphere! A long time favourite...
Great coffee and great pie! Staff is friendly, lots of space to sit and chat or work. Wifi, music not too loud, nice lighting. Street parking can be a bit rough but its worth it.
Very good coffee and pastries. Good location. Ample room with tons of setting available. The noise level is acceptable if you want to have a conversation.
I love the cozy yet vibrant feeling of this place. The coffee is excellent, and they have some great breakfast and lunch options. Lots of seating, but theres still usually more customers than seats.
Well dang! I just ordered a half ham sandwich and it ended up being the best sandwich Ive had in months. Fresh sourdough, just the right amount of mayo and tasty ham. In a city where all the attention goes to those pushing culinary boundaries, lets remember to appreciate the ol standbys.
This is a cool coffee shop; youll especially enjoy it if you enjoy being surrounded by alternative culture Portland is so well known for. Great coffee, their sandwiches are outstanding. If youre looking to study or work, its crowded and can be noisy. The WiFi is dependable - part of the time - and there arent a lot of outlets available.
Cute, quaint, and affordable. Tasty breakfast sandwiches in a cozy yet lively setting.
Love the coffee and pie. I get the vegan pie and I feel the gluten free crust is really hard and dry, but the filling makes it worth it. Their coffee is amazing, some of the best on the block imo. I go here all the time and I love the staff even if they forget my pie in the microwave sometimes. I just wave someone down and the fetch it right away, I dont mind too much, they get really busy and I understand.
I’d always had a pretty good experience here until yesterday. I felt like I was driven out after one of the employees turned the presidential debate on and at an absolutely ridiculous volume- forcing everyone in the shop to be immersed in it. My headphones couldn’t block it out. I came for coffee, not for politics.
We had very good croissant and egg combo sandwiches and my tea was great. There would be more tables from which to choose if someone was wiping them down. The historical decor is very interesting.
Nice Café with amazing pie. They have gluten and alternative sweetener options. Best pie in town and a great relaxing atmosphere. In addition to pie they serve hot and cold drinks, soups and sandwiches. Great place to wait before a movie or bring your laptop to get some work done.
