The coffee is lovely, but why are you still serving it in paper cups? Now that the indoor seating is back, please consider bringing back ceramic cups!Drinking a cappuccino in a paper cup is so sad.
Great cold brew! Will have to come back to try the pastries!
I love a fancy latte and everyone who works there is kind and genuine. The pastries are wildly delicious as well. Ive had to cut back on caffeine and I miss visiting.
The experience at Heart Coffee Roasters is more than just the coffee (fantastic) and the baked goods (outrageous. Impossible to understand why they can be so good. The chewy chocolate walnut cookie : oh Lordy). It’s a ready-made magazine cover for “Hipster Culture Today” or “Cafe of the Future Journal.” For the record I’m here with my coven.Heart-themed art on the walls, Depeche Mode on the sound system. People are people, but only the hippest drink Heart.
Small business with its own characterVanilla latte and pistachio rose pastry in the pictures.Excellent pastry. I am always wary when food includes rose flavoring because it is so overpowering. This was the opposite, very subtle and complementing the pistachio. The crust is flaky and crunchy as it should be.Vanilla latte on point as you would expect a well established coffee shop to be.Free wifi and plenty of seating to do work and catch up on emails without being bothered.Only suggestion Id make is for more power outlets for charging.
Beautiful cappuccino. Pistachio Rose croissant was one of the better croissants Ive had in my entire life. What is the name of the bakery again? Merci!
I enjoyed myself at this cute shop. I ordered an americano to sit and enjoy within their space. After I paid I sat down and they brought me my drink. I liked as time went on. I really am not a fan of medium / light roast espresso, which i believe they use. The note is too bright for me, but when it cooled a bit it was enjoyable. It seemed that they had a nice selection of pastries and the women working here were very lovely.
Really nice baristas. Excellent coffee. Grab a bag for home.
This place is definitely a treat yourself place with anything besides drip coffee. The prices are hefty, but worth it. You know, TREAT YOSELF! I always get the latte with house walnut-almond milk. The house walnut-almond milk is to die for! Let me say that again, When you go to heart roasters, be sure to try your drink with the HOUSE WALNUT-ALMOND MILK! Simply put, its like nothing Ive had before! It is so good, after I tried it I immediately went home and made my own walnut-almond milk. It was delicious, but lots of work which is how I now understand why they charge $1.50 to sub for regular milk. Do yourself a favor and try the house walnut-almond milk.
If you want to know what real coffee tastes like, this would be it. Afterwards Starbucks will be a thing of the past.
Service is always prompt even when they have a full house. The service was very helpful and welcoming. Like a restaurant in Washington I loved.
The. Best.
Got the available drip, it was well rounded and hit the spot.
Favorite coffee spot. Period. Great for drinking coffee, chilling and chatting, and CROISSANTS!! Best croissants in town!
Wow what amazing coffee! My boyfriend works in Coffee Roasting and he couldnt stop talking about this places flavour profile. I loved it too, it was delish!
Great coffee and the amazing Nuvrei pastries!
Fantastic coffee. Loved the coffee with chili and chocolate-a special treat. Updated review. 7.30.21 Back in Portland for our first visit since 2019 post pandemic. In a town with many many great coffee options, Heart Coffee is a true standout. Had to travel 2300 miles to taste it again but definitely worth the trip!
The much lauded Heart Coffee is one of my favorite Portland roasters with much of its praise well deserved. You really have to be able to appreciate their approach to espresso through if you want to enjoy this shop. Their default Stereo Blend is good, but unique and I would recommend it as a cortado rather than a cappuccino. Their drip is always great though. Overall a bit pricey and stuffy (especially the clientele on weekend mornings) and hence the 4 stars.
I was looking for an enclosed cafe around here because of my serious allergies, and one cafe nearby had all their windows wide open :( . I called Heart and they said they had all the windows and garage doors closed up and the A/C on, and were very welcoming to me with my allergy needs! Great coffee, semi-busy but not too loud, a mix of folks socializing, working solo, and collaborating on projects I gathered. Great pastries too - the Scandinavian cardamom cinnamon roll thing was delicious!
Been here 2 or 3 times now as its close to our church. Excellent, smooth espresso drinks. Chill vibe. Good for meeting friends or getting some work/homework done. Decent wifi.
Delicious espresso and great service during Covid-19! Thank you for creating a safe and welcoming coffee experience 😁
The nicest staff. Nice space to study, space wise, but when I went it was a bit lively so maybe not if you need a quiet atmosphere. The gingersnap latte is a must try!
Heart, youve been killing it for years now. Youre fruit forward lighter stuff may not be my thing but I really admire what it takes to pull those flavors out. That said, an Ethiopian I had there recently was one of the best shots Ive ever had, period. Love the signature drinks that come out occasionally too. Love you guys.
Good coffee! Space was too cold. I couldnt take off my coat and my coffee got cold before I could drink it. Had to relocate to a place across the street that had equally good coffee for a better price, and where I felt more comfortable.
I walked two miles to find this place that was featured in the WW coffee guide last year. It did not disappoint. The roasting equipment is a great center piece to have in the cafe and the seats facing the roaster are comfy and warm. The coffee was delicious. Someone mentioned too much citrus flavor in another review but I think it was perfect. One of the best lattes I have had in Portland.
Amazing coffee. But you can get that anywhere in Portland. Just wished I got it to go. I went in because it looked like a reliable place to get some work done.. but the Wi-Fi wasn’t working, so I left and probably won’t be back.
Heart coffee has one of the best cappuccinos in the area! The quality is consistent which is quite hard for most coffee shops. They make their own vanilla flavoring which was a fresh add on to the coffee. During my visit, I would come in at least twice a day for my coffee fix. Will visit again when in town.
Heart has great coffee and they know their coffee beans. Its a great spot to sit and have an espresso. I wish they had a few more tables inside. When the weather is nice they have outdoor seating/benches where its pleasant to sit and watch the street life.
Very friendly staff, breve spicy chai was delicious. The music was nice. Acoustics made it feel a bit library ish
It’s one of my favorite roasters. I’ve been to better coffee shops yet I keep coming back. It gives me that Scandinavian feel, and was one of the first places I had been in America that really made me feel it back in the day. Nothing but authenticity here.
Heart probably has one of my top two cappuccinos in town. This goes for their coffee as well. Really nice space with natural light and a very modern design sensibility. The last time I ordered coffee, I had had very friendly service. Good place to hang out and read a book, or get some work done on the laptop.
Nice cup of coffee, not my favorite place in town but still really nice. I wish they did pour over cups instead of just regular drip. The drinking chocolate is over priced at $6 for an 8oz pour of what is really hot cocoa not drinking chocolate in my opinion. Overall its a cool spot to hang out and have a cup of coffee, the staff is always great. A good goto spot if Im in the neighborhood or while Im waiting for my table at screen door.
I liked the place - fun decor and font. But man I got an espresso and it was one of the most bitter espressos Ive ever had, I could barely drink it. Not sure if they were having a problem with their machine or what.
I stopped by for a quick cup of Americano. Great stuff. I also picked up a couple bags of beans to take home with me on the plane. The space is great and the staff is friendly and helpful. The only issue is parking or better, lack of parking. This is a busy stretch of Burnside and you should count on a walk. On the other hand, a walk is good for you and the coffee is well worth the walk and the price.
Best coffee in the Portland area. Anytime I come down fro Seattle I make a point of coming here. One of the best cups around.
Heart coffee with so delicious. Also the space is very nice to spend a little time in.
I used to love heart. But the last couple times Ive gone in, my $5 mocha was lukewarm. They dont have any way to heat it once its made. And after waiting for my beverage for ten minutes last time I was there, I didnt have time to wait for it to be remade. I appreciate what they are trying to do at Heart. Its a lovely atmosphere and the ingredients are quality. But waiting that long for a disappointing coffee means I likely wont be returning anytime soon.
Great coffee wonderful staff chill vibe . parking sux but worth the short walk for some good coffee
This is one of my favorite cafe in PDX. Great atmosphere and super nice ppl. They have great pastries as well. Especially blueberry muffin is extra YUMMY! Thanks for providing such warm and comfortable space to the community! Also they give away burlap coffee bags every month. Please contact them if you need ones! You just need to pick them up at their roaster but they are happy to do so.
I have tried every single boutique coffee roaster in Portland and Heart is, hands down, the very best! They source the best beans and roast them to absolute perfection! If you like a blend, the Stereo Blend is perfect for espresso or drip. I like variety and this is where you will find it, they only sell/serve coffee that is in peak season and the bags always have a roast date within a few days.
Great drinks, great people, AND great interior
Sweet staff, cool location, and amazing coffee!! I tried the honey cardamom latte and was very impressed, the coffee was smooth and creamy and delicious!!
Good coffee, decent prices. I had their capuchino which was very good but not amazing.
I dont understand why baristas feel the need to be rude. Why would you take a job where you have significant public contact and spread negativity? Heart has outstanding coffee, but the experience was ruined by the unfriendly young woman who served me today. The experience beyond the cup is very important.
My favorite coffee shop in the city. Its impossibly cool. On the pricier side, but well worth it. Good quality roast and service.
Great coffee and service
Wow this place is lovely. Love the cute design of the cafe, especially the Probat roaster that you can sit in front of. Very hipster and a cozy little spot. Excellent teas. Coffee was a bit acidic but maybe it was the particular profile we tried that day. Service is friendly and approachable.
Very simple coffee shop with modern designs and limited drink selections. Coffee roast is excellent and well above average. A must try.
This is my favorite cup of coffee in Portland. There is something extremely satisfying than a drip coffee of Heart, sitting outside on one of those orange chairs, and just taking in the day. Im not sure what they do or their roasting methods (rumor is they take their roasting VERY, very seriously) and it absolutely shows. Do yourself a favor and grab a pastry at your favorite bakery- head to Heart for a cup of coffee- and take a road trip to your favorite spot. It will be a winning Portland day.
Was excited to add a normal croissant and rose croissant to my coffee order since they looked like the best I’ve seen around the area. Personally thought the pastries were a bit excessively sweet, though, but I would still stop by again!
Meh
The drip coffee had a bit of a pungent taste to it. Im not sure what kind of roast it was. For the price, I would have expected better. Their lattes are also okay, pretty good, but when I start getting close to $5 for a latte, Im expecting it to be amazing, and in general, they are not. So, its fine, the decor is fine, the product is fine, but I feel its a bit spendy and not amazing.
Made me feel unwanted and rushed me out like I was an infectious disease. You could have patiently waited 3 seconds as I got a lid for my plain black coffee- I didnt even order a time consuming drink to make-out of consideration for your transparent intolerance. You didnt need to hover over me as if my getting a lid would infect the establishment.-I understand that dogs are not allowed inside but, I called ahead to check and was told it was ok.Regardless it was tactless to rush me the f out of there and tell me dogs are unsanitary.I wasnt planning on staying anyway and wont return. With no scarcity of pretentious coffee/& ambience in Portland, your existence is dispensable. And many other coffee shops allow well behaved dogs, and at the very least have tact in telling me otherwise.-And odds are, my sweet, 6 pound indoor dog ismore sanitary than most humans. Also I recall that your bathrooms gross, my dog wouldnt even go in there.:)
This is the mostly incredible coffee roasted around. I couldnt find anything close to comparable in NYC. Their Direct Trade Light roast coffee is incredible. I will forever love this place.
This place has no outlets. If youre going to a coffee shop to try to get work done, I would advise going somewhere else. The drip coffee is also $4.
Great cold brew. Also found out they make their own non dairy milk! Its a cashew almond milk with maple syrup added in for sweetness!FYI....no wifi and limited power outlets so it gives the place a distinct vibe you dont often encounter at a coffee shop.
Got an 8oz. latte and it was very good!! Wish they served the coffee with a tiny sweet cracker or cookie. Could make the experience even better :)
Very modern and pleasant. Art work adds a lot and creates a captivating atmosphere. If for no other reason go for the amazing coffee and perfectly made craft lattes
Ordered an americano and a croissant and both were delicious! Especially the croissant - it was soft and flaky and just all around heavenly.I had to go to work so I wasnt able to stay for long - but it seemed like the perfect spot to read a book in the morning.
Wonderful coffee, but if youre working remotely and are required to use a VPN when youre on a wifi network you may want to think twice about coming here.Hearts wifi network blocks the use of VPN and other services like OKTA. Makes sense, theyre a business and need to protect themselves from folks doing illegal stuff on their network. Still a bit of a bummer!
Wonderful. We tried a latte and their drip. The stereo espresso is wonderful, and their drip coffees are all very pleasant. Definitely the best coffee I had during my time in Portland. The barista that served us and pulled our shot was very knowledgeable, friendly, and approachable. They have every reason to be pretentious about their coffee, but are really approachable. Highly recommended.
I work at a neighboring business and I am never disappointed when I stop here before work.
Great coffee in comfortable setting. Great coffee in Portland is abundant but this is worth seeking out. Staff is friendly. I found the house almond milk bit chalky but the regular latte was faultless.
The coffee is, indeed, very good, and the main reason for going. Not recommended for someone just looking for a daily dose of caffeine or a Bakery + Café type of setup. While there are a couple tasty baked good selections, theyre rather pricey and really just meant to compliment the coffee. Go for the coffee, stay for the coffee. Did I mention the coffee?
