Eva is really cool. Kinda like her style. Shes got a funky flair to her grove. Definitely see her playing Fortnite for university soon. Keep up the good work scout.
First time there, the Chai latte was wonderful and the lady working was very nice. Ill be back!
Thank you all for being my sole provider of morning coffees, great morning conversations and serving the neighborhood. Couldnt have done 2020 without you. Also, I appreciate your mandatory mask policies (and providing masks for people that forget). Even though I am vaccinated, I believe we need to be wearing the masks for the time-being. I mean, it doesnt hurt, does it?
Good breakfast sandwiches and coffee. I especially appreciate the walk up order window right now. Many other coffee shops are cramped and you have to wait in line in less than distanced conditions. Here there is plenty of room on the sidewalk and at the benches and picnic tables.
I had the most wonderful quiche ever and the drip coffee ☕was awesome too! My goodness the crust on that quiche and filling.. going back and getting more! Customer service is also efficient, courteous and friendly.
The staff were super friendly and helpful, working with us on our order and got it out quickly. The food was tasty and coffee was good. Looking forward to going back!
One of my favorite coffee shops in North Portland. Oak milk lattes are fantastic. Also have a good chocolate chip cookie!
Great coffee & friendly & helpful baristas! Their pumpkin drink in the fall is one of my faves. There is limited parking in their tiny parking lot, but usually you can find street parking nearby.
The rosemary lemon scone was so delicious!
This place is a great lunch spot. Staff is super nice, and they usually have cool art on the wall. Try the smoothies!
I usually get drip coffee, but its so hard to find good coffee in town that isnt burnt and bitter. Madrona Hills is consistently delicious.
My fav place to grab a fun weekend breakfast while walking my dog! The employees are always so nice! plus the pastries and breakfast sandwiches are delicious! Everyone needs to try the quiches! yummmm
We love having a neighborhood coffee shop with great pastries. Staff are friendly and COVID-safe.
My favorite coffee shop in Portland.Good pastries, good sandwiches, good soup. Like the ambience there, good place for coffee and a newspaper.(Im old ok?)
The coffee isnt very good and a few of the employees have been very short with me, attitude in the morning is never good.
Unfriendly service and bitter coffee!
I got the mocha and it was fabulous, some of the best Id ever had. The shop smelled amazing too!
In the time of pandemic pandæmonium, Madrona Hill bakery/café/coffeehouse, home of the Original Coffee Window, steps up to serve delicious beverages and baked goodness. New personnel additions Salem, Hiri and Cléome keep delivering what Brooke (the proprietrix) has been giving her valued customers all along. You would be foolish to merely pass by this Awesome Place in Overlook. Go there. Now.
They use Square for ordering online which I love bc its so easy. They will graciously remake your coffee order if you accidentally order iced lattes instead of hot (its ok I paid for my mistake). Friendly, good food, and will bring it to your car which is awesome bc theres no parking on the side street and a big pasty dude in a tie-dyed teeshirt will rush from the apartment building to tell you if you, like me, miss the giant no parking sign. Anyway, Morgan Hill is great.
My girlfriend and I have a weekly routine of visiting here. Madrona has a cozy environment, friendly staff, and scrumptious food. Also, the coffee is delicious- the drip never disappoints and my gf is addicted to their lattes. Truly a local charm!
They are open at 6 in the morning wow! So many good choices 4 breakfast-y, lunch-y sandwhich-y and bakery :-) items
WOW! This place is outstanding. It is our to go place in NoPo.
All around cozy atmosphere with delicious breakfast sandwiches and great coffee with alternative milk options. The staff are super friendly and bright. Will be back!
Absolutely lovely neighborhood spot. The people working are always friendly. As someone that has a laptop that runs out of charge quickly, the abundant amount of outlets is very appreciated.
Nice, clean, quiet place. Im a drip coffee drinker, and their drip is pretty good. Nice place to sit inside on a cold day, or enjoy a cup outside when its nice out.
Friendly staff and great walk up window
Very yummy but the google menu prices are outdated. Sandwiches more like $9.50. The size of the sandwich reflects that it should probably still be closer to $6 as it is more of a hoagie than a baguette. Quality is good but Id agree its over priced.
Update: So, the owner contacted me about my review and my concerns. She has been extremely interested in addressing the situation that led to a lesser review. I have to say, her care and concern for the business is really nice, and really refreshing. My friend and I stopped in and had a very nice talk with her, had a nice coffee and a couple nice tasting pastries.I liked this place the first time I went. I liked it this most recent time I went. And, it seems that customer services issues have been addressed and the staff was extremely pleasant and welcoming to every person coming through the door. Its clear that ownership really cares about the success of the business, the quality of the product, and a fun experience for customers. That changes everything for me.Ill be back, and I think I can certainly recommend Madrona Hill Cafe to others now.BTW - Its a great place to stop on a bike ride! Its right off of Ainsworth, a bike street, right near Greeley wrapping around the bluff and overlooking Portland downtown. The Max isnt far, in case you want to bike one way and ride back the other. There are bike racks surrounding the front of it, and outdoor seating. I was riding my bike the first time I went there, and riding the last time I went there.Previously:Youll find largely the same review from me elsewhere. I figured Id share equally, as Id hate for others to experience the same. The kids working here need supervision. Having gone here twice, the first time was really nice, good coffee, nice service. The second time, the service was a bit more surly, and upon receiving my latte, it was barely palatable. It looked like the foam had been scooped from the top of the dishwater, and it didnt taste much better than that. So, I politely asked a different girl working there if shed mine remaking it. I rarely do this, but if I have ever needed a drink remade at any coffee shop anywhere, well, pretty much in the US, it has always been a kindly accommodated request. This young lady (girl) wanted to know what was wrong. Then, she literally lost eye contact with me and could no longer look at me, staring over her shoulder at the other girl who rolled her eyes like, dont look at me. Unable to regain eye contact, or even verbal communication, I politely told her not to worry about it, I wouldnt be drinking this one anyway, turned, and walked out.Its a cute cafe that seems hit or miss depending on the staff, I guess. Take your chances, but I wont be back.
Great little coffee shop in Portland, the scones are worth the line
Great neighborhood coffee shop. Short lines, waits. Great fresh pastries and strong espresso. We have used them for catering events at work to great results at realistic prices.
The food is very good considering its price point. This place is an excellent value. The kitchen is open and clean. The staff is helpful and very friendly. Recommended!
Im sure this place is lovely if you are the type of person who wears socks with bacon on them. I ordered a coffee and tried to get some work done on my laptop, but customer after customer would order a bacon sandwich and the place just overwhelmed me with bacon odor. I noticed they cook everything in the main area where all the tables are. Not recommended for vegetarians/vegans.
Went in for a super yummy macchiato and saw green eggs and ham on the menu and what a good choice. Fresh, yummy and quick!
Ive been back twice for their breakfast sandwiches. Great place to work. People converse quietly, the music is well curated, and I never feel its too loud to focus well. I obviously wouldnt be working in a coffee shop if i had great focus could stay on the ball at home... so having it be just quiet enough to focus, with a touch of above-white-noise ambience and buzz is everything i look for. Parking is great too! Wish I lived in Portland so I could enjoy all these great cafes. LA has lost everything to Starbucks. :(
The last time I was in the quality of food and drink had decreased quite a bit from my previous visits. Not sure if thats just the norm now or if it was an off day. I do like the openness of the space, and there is almost always great art hanging on the walls.
Very sweet staff very delicious food amazing coffee. definitely recommend
Great bagels and the Jasmine tea was the best I ever had!
Good breakfast sandwiches and stuff but they serve sour hipster drip coffee. I understand some people like it and say dark roast is burned but I really prefer a dark roast bitter strong coffee. Wobbly table once dumped a bunch of coffee on my lap. Nice people work here.
My mother and I didnt notice that they were only open until three pm until were at the door. We asked at the counter if we could order food. Yes, theres still 15 minutes. What we didnt know is that she would make our sandwiches togo, plopping the bag and togo cups down on the table wed set with napkins and water and tableware--clearly meaning that wed be sitting to eat. No word of acknowledgment. There were four other tables of people. We ate quickly as she put up chairs around us. Wed happily have spent our money elsewhere to feel welcome. (To be fair, Ive spent 25 years in the restaurant business; Ive made similar mistakes, but only because they were pointed out did I learn from them, sorry to say.)
Good vibe, wonderful grilled cheese and good coffee! Ill spend more time there♡
One of the best cafés in this area! I always went here growing up for a delicious hot chocolate and the pastries here are always the best!
Great coffee, had good pastries. They have been really good! Food looked good. Several vegetarian food items. Great little shop.
Good selection of sandwiches, baked goods, smoothies, and espresso drinks. Great place to have a conversation with someone or grab a coffee and walk along the bluff. Nice staff.
I love this place. A great spot to sit and work or run in for a coffee and snack while waiting for the bus.
Good place. They have great coffee, scratch baked goods and excellent music.
Long time customer. Love the coffee. Morning sandwiches were delicious.
A very honest little cafe. I would have preferred a different music selection than what was playing, something a little more jazz and relaxing, but the staff was great, food and coffee was great as well!
Only a four because I wasnt disappointed and they served the four of us without any confusion and we ordered - was served- and was on our way promptly. Laid back place. Its a cofee shop. I need more visits there for more than a missed bus cup of cofee, Oh, my little girl liked it. She was about two and a half at the time.
YOU CAN ORDER ONLINE FOR PICK UP. I love this place when I need a bagel sandwich in a hurry. They always have it ready before I arrive.
Good coffee, kinda spendy, staff wasnt too friendly
Love this place! Such great service and healthy tasty choices!!!!
Best coffee and breakfast pastries! Service is fast and friendly. Nice seating area inside.
Great bakery and coffee. The best part is the walk up window if you have a dog.
Isnt open very long, good for brunch and breakfast, they have a nice veggie sandwich, great smoothies, and a lot of places to sit and chill. They even have an ordering window if you want to stay outside.
A nice little place that offers an assortment of coffee, pastries and sandwiches. All of which are very delectable.
Love the food, the veggie sunrise is fantastic and their assortment of pastry cant be beat. The blueberry turnovers are hard to resist and the cinnamon twists are delicious.
Little pocket of flavor and friendly service. Wonderful place to get a quick bite on a weekend.
Great coffee and fresh, made-from-scratch pastries backed on-site every day. Delicious!
This coffee house/cafe has great Water Ave. Coffee, very good pastries and some meal type food, very welcoming staff and overall, just a great ambiance. No off street parking but that hasnt been a problem for me.
Always fresh baked goods made with dedication and presented with pride.
Love this little cafe, good coffee, friendly staff and delicious breakfast sandwiches. Gluten-free available
I got a mocha, sandwich, and chips to go. The coffee tasted so bad I had maybe two sips and then threw it away. I NEVER do that. The bread had a slight moldy taste to it, like it was maybe stored near something moldy. Im okay paying more than average if it ends up supporting a local business, but to get that quality of food at steeper prices? This place stands out in my mind as a place to avoid. :(
The best coffee in Portland, fast personable staff, great price.I am lucky to have them in my neighborhood.
Good food and drinks. Friendly staff. Cozy space.
Coffee is good, but the morning buns were bad the last couple of times I tried them. The potatoes werent cooked and the rosemary was so overpowering it made me nauseous.
Great service and art on the walls to keep you entertained while you wait.
Great coffee. Amazing baked goods. Always friendly.
Cute and quiet little neighborhood Cafe. Support your local business!
Much-improved under new ownership. Broader breakfast menu than Blend. Friendly staff. Space would benefit from more seating options.
Love the morning glory sandwich! One of my favorite study spots
Excellent coffee and food, very friendly staff and great atmosphere!, lts a great place to meet for coffee or breakfast or lunch.
The green party smoothie is soooo good!!!
Great little neighborhood coffee shop with lots of heart and rally great baked goods.
Best chai tea latte in all the land
Nice neighborhood spot for coffee Wi-Fi and pastries
The nicest baristas and the best espresso shots!
Great little quaint breakfast joint!
I live nearby and go here almost daily. The croissant breakfast sandwiches are sooooo yummy. But Im supposed to stay away from gluten, so I asked Brooke, the owner, and now she has GF bread from new cascadia. They are always super accommodating and pleasant vibes. The coffee is sometimes a bit off but maybe is just that I dont like the beans. Still fine to drink. Or maybe only mean edgy people can make a good cup of coffee and this place is just too pleasant.
Cozy atmosphere with tasty pastries and sandwiches and coffee.
I just had a bagel breakfast sandwich which I thought was over priced for what was delivered. Didnt try the coffee.
Good drinks, but really loved the breakfast sandwiches!
Super overpriced and the tea is mediocre. The coffee was alright.
Reliable but Spartan, decent coffee and treats.
Comfortable coffee shop and cafe.
Good coffee right on the road.
Great atmosphere with delicious eats!
Good pastries, cozy vibe
Great coffee and service.
Very friendly, good coffee
Yummy breakfast sandwiches
Love the coffee and pastries
Delish!!
