If you are planning to learn scuba diving in Portland area, Aquatic sports is where you want to start...There is nothing better than having a pool in the diving store. You will be trained in the pool and practice as many times as you need before certified in open water. You have the opportunity to test your gears in the pool before purchasing.I bought my gears with students discount(dont waste your time online to beat their price...I tried...) and more importantly I had great recommendation for what I need.
This building looks very run down and the paint color isn’t the same as what’s in the pictures. There’s graffiti on the side that was covered up with different shades of red. The sign is worn and looks like it’s falling apart. There are bars on the windows (which could be because they sell some very expensive stuff, but then they should be able to afford to clean up the building). Their website said they were open and the building is locked and closed so we didn’t even get to go inside or look around. Very not impressed. This was my first time.
The best local dive shop in Portland!. Had a great experience with Colin being an excellent teacher. I was refreshing my OW diver certification and I wanted to get my 10 year old daughter Jr. Open Water certified. The pool sessions ensured that she was at ease with the equipment that we purchased from Aquatic Sports prior to doing her qualifying OW dives in Maui. I hope to rediscover my love of this sport and I am so grateful for the patient instruction at this center.
Every experience I have ever had with Jeff and his shop has been exemplary. Great training, great service and experts in the field help get you where you need to go. Somebody wrote a review that criticized the paint job on the building! Never judge a book by its cover. Everything you need is inside and I would rather they spent their money on quality inventory than paint! But that has always been part of the charm of the place. It’s very Portland-esque that way, funky on the outside, great on the inside. If you want to learn to dive, go there. If you want them to paint it blue instead of red, go somewhere else.
Love these guys! Always helpful. They price match! Knowledgeable and patient. All the dive trips Ive gone on over the past two years have been fantastic. Adrian is the best!
If you want to start in the magnificent experience of diving, this is the right place, the experience and the kindness with which they explain you, makes you really sign up to take a course and enjoy the wonders of the ocean and observe with your own eyes what few have the opportunity to see !!!!. I THINK THIS EXPERIENCE IS WORTH IT AND YOU CAN TRUST THEM. AND AN EXTRA IS THAT THEY SPEAK ENGLISH AND SPANISH. FOR THE COMFORT OF DIFFERENT CULTURES I HAVE LANGUAGES
They put this very rude note on my car as I was inside on 9/3/2021. I was parked in the lot outside the aquatic sport, facing the barbur blvd veterinary hospital. I will not be coming back, they are lucky I even stepped foot inside that run down business anyway.
Rented gear a couple times from Aquatic Sports and it was well maintained and great quality. The customer service was great and the folks who helped us were really knowledgeable, excited, and gave us great tips for good dive spots. They also have a good stock of comfy dry suits for rent which is generally hard to find. I will be back for sure!
I went to AS for open water certification. The dive at Hood Canal was great albeit rather chilly time of year. But great fun.The staff is stellar in their approach to making you feel welcome as well as knowing their stuff. I purchased equipment through them and had other equipment (dive vest) certified by them. I always felt I got value for my money.I have given their cards to friends and absolutely recommend them for training, parts, service and great conversations.Happy to give FIVE STAR REVIEW
Needed a mask that didnt make me claustrophobic so I headed down. The selection was impressive and the customer service was astonishing. I was fitted, educated and on my way in minutes. Fantastic
Jeff and staff helped me get a rental together last minute. Thanks for the help yall!
Very disappointed with my experience at Aquatic Sports. They were constantly trying to sell me things, and regularly overcharged for their gear. Plus they promised I could return gear if I didnt like, but when I tried to they refused. Save your money, go elsewhere.
I went in for snorkeling gear and they had plenty of masks to try on for fit. Staff was super friendly and helpful in finding everything I needed. Equipment was on site and nothing needed to be ordered in. Would highly recommend.
These guys are the best - super helpful with every step of learning to dive. I decided I wanted to scuba dive with no background at all, and they helped me get the equipment (and prioritize what to get first, etc.), take all the proper training, and set up trips to go diving. They also pointed me to other ships they know in other places Ive traveled to dive. Highly recommended!
Aquatic Sports is hands down the best dive shop in Portland. The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. No matter where I am in the world, if I have any issues with any of my equipment or need help looking up certs, they always go the extra mile to help me out. The quality of instruction is top notch, and I love that they have a pool on site to help get in those extra hours of practice that really make you a good diver. Would recommend to anyone looking to get into diving or advance their education.
I had a great lesson there with instructor Aaron Glenn! He showed me how to breathe under water and by the end of the glass I was super comfortable with the scuba mask staying under water for extended periods. Would highly recommend!
This place is the best. We came here in April 17 for snorkel gear; we got excellent stuff that worked perfectly through the whole trip (masks didnt fog, fins super comfortable, etc). We are now getting scuba certified, and trust their recommendations for the gear that will best meet our needs. Staff is always knowledgeable, friendly, patient, and attentive.
Nice clean pool best prices 100% Professional instructors the best Ive seen in 12 years.( you try out your stuff in there pool)
Nice people and good selection of equipment for sale. Staff knowledgeable.
Very helpful. Came in for new snorkeling booties, then they helped me explore the next island I want to go to. Had great advice on areas to stay, where to snorkel, eat, good airbnb areas.
If you want the best in instruction and subject matter expertise, Aquatic Sports is your go-to. They dont cut corners or take shortcuts with your safety or your equipment. They are your trusted advisers.
I highly recommend Aquatic Sports for all things diving - training, gear, and trip tips. The staff and are super helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. Recently I was packing for a Belize diving trip and 2 hours before heading to the airport for a red-eye flight I discovered I had left my safe-second regulator at the store after a practice session! I called after regular store hours, hoping maybe a class was in session - no luck. But Jeff answered the phone and arranged to have staff meet me to handoff a loaner regulator for my trip. We pulled it off in a tight timeframe and it was great to use familiar equipment on my trip! Jeff went way beyond the call of duty!
Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Theres a pool for lessons and trying out gear. I plan on being a regular at Aquatic Sports.
Jeff, the owner, took his time explaining their different classes, what was involved with each one, and what would work best for my needs. Im excited to sign up to learn scuba diving at their facility.
This Dive Shop is AWESOME!!! They have I huge pool and really large showroom, plus the staff in knowledgeable and friendly. They have UW camera stuff in stock, could even support my CCR, and helped us plan our dives. We came in town twice to dive the missile silos and both times they helped us. They also let us (an Instructor and DM from another agency) rent the pool and gear, so we could let the kids in our group do the bubble maker experience while we were in town. Absolutely AMAZING SHOP!!!
Incredibly in-depth education from both the classes and instructors, and a wide selection of gear/brands always available. Highly recommended!
Very helpful and knowledgeable. Jeff the owner is amazing as are the associates
My wife, Meredith, and I gave ourselves scuba lessons for Christmas this year, and we found Aquatic Sports (AS) through a Living Social deal. We spend a lot of vacation time in Maui and we wanted to learn how to scuba do we could dive while on the island. We did our classroom and pool work in Portland, then did our open water dive last week in Maui after receiving our referral from AS. The training we received at AS, and the equipment we purchased, made all the difference in the world. Our Open Water certification dives were a piece of cake after the extensive SSI training received through the Aquatic Sports program. Carlos Aguilar was our A.S. instructor, and he is top-notch. His enthusiasm for the sport is infectious. He is patient, thorough, and extremely knowledgable. One reviewer on Yelp complained about the push to purchase equipment. We did not feel pressured to buy our own equipment (other than your mask, snorkel, and fins, which are necessary). However, we wanted to buy our own diving equipment, and Carlos explained the advantages to buying certain items, due to warranties that wouldnt otherwise be available. However, we understood that the choice was ours.I can tell you that going from the confines of the AS pool, to the open waters of the Pacific Ocean, I felt a lot more confident and secure in my diving ability as a result of the training, education, and equipment received through the AS program. My wife and I thank Carlos for ensuring that we were truly prepared and able to get the most out of our first Maui diving adventure. We also appreciate Jeff, Adrian, John, and the rest of the AS crew for helping feed our enthusiasm for this wonderful sport.
Great place, friendly and knowledgeable staff. The indoor pool lets you get all your practice dive skills right on the spot.
Very friendly and approachable customer service. I asked about training and was given a tour and a ton of helpful information. I do wish the training fees were lower.
Tried a couple of other local dive shops that wouldnt bother to return my calls (I actually called one dive shop six times to try to get just a recertification and they jerked me around for two weeks before I stopped trying). If this shop says theyll call you back, they actually do it! I came in after 6 years of being out of diving to get my skills updated, and it was totally worth it. Trainer was friendly, we covered a lot of stuff that had been updated since I had been away and the (heated) pool on-site is a lot deeper than youd think! Heading back today to see if I can pick up a new wetsuit and setup a time to get back into actual water!
I always try and do business locally to support the small guy but after experiences like this I am loosing faith in the small guy. They charged me $130 to fix an ONeill Dry suit and when the repair failed they took no responsibility and offered no solutions, other than to give them more money to try and fix it again. It seems to me they could have at least one more time to fix it and not charge me another $130.Makes me wonder where else they cut corners, think twice before doing business with someone who wont stand behind their work.
Havent been by in almost ten years, but when my wife and I needed snorkel gear for a trip to Hawaii this was my first stop. The folks working were professional and knowledgeable, and made the experience easy and comfortable.
A great place to learn to scuba. On site pool, perfect sized classes and very caring staff.
I dont even know where to begin.-Misquoted my drysuit repair-Lost track of my drysuit after they shipped it-Gave me an unrealistic timeframe for drysuit repair-Sold me a tank and lied about the manufacturerNot coming back here again!
Rented gear for xl male got xl womens still charged me
