Strum is awesome! The staff is great, the gear is amazing, and the DOGGOS!!!
My first time to Strum this weekend, and really cant say enough positive about my experience and the crew there! Incredible service, selection, venue, and people! They went above and beyond to help me purchase a guitar, texting me pictures, volunteering to hold it for me if i wanted (they were about to close and it was a 40 minute drive for me to get there). They also volunteered to stick around a little after their closing for me if i wanted to head over right then. Very cool!!When I arrived, 2minutes before closing, I was welcomed and shown around. They seemed psyched to show me the guitar and never did I feel any pressure or attitude. I will definitely be returning and shopping there more regularly (but during business hours of course! )
Strum is AWESOME! Really fun place, amazing guitars. I fell in love with a 62 strat and a 78 country gentleman. Plus, hold on to your hats, they have beer! You can sip, then play, then sip again. Plus live music!!! I love this place, the idea is brilliant, the staff is really cool, the patrons are awesome. Ill definitely be back soon and frequently!
My 3rd trip to Strum, and they continue to impress. Free shows of local acoustic bands seems to be the theme. Fun for all ages, with a nice selection of ciders and hops. A fab selection of guitars and amps on display round out the experience. Photos are from the prohibition era jazz band “Smut City Jelly Roll Society” 11/16/19.
This is how all guitar shops should be in my opinion. Friendly and unpretentious, yet has a high standard for quality in their inventory. The staff are knowledgeable and more importantly, kind and gracious, even if you’re just browsing. Highly recommend. I will be back next time in town.
The live shows are consistently top notch. The owners and staff are friendly and attentive.
This is by far the best music store in Portland. The level of unique and quality guitars and string instruments is unparalleled. The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, the beer is always top-notch, and the atmosphere makes me want to stay for hours. A phenomenal place to shop for quality instruments and sip a beer. 5 stars on all fronts, couldnt imagine giving it anything less.
I haven’t visited the shop personally, yet, but all of my online transactions have been great. I can’t wait to visit!
Great place to browse gear, grab a beer and catch some live music. Also super pleased with their repair service — I dropped off a vintage guitar for a setup and Sam helped me out and did a stellar job. Quick turn and a reasonable price, and the guitar sounds fantastic.
Gem of a shop in SE Portland. You can grab a pint and peruse their incredible guitar selection displayed on the wall. They also have live music often which is so fun to go listen to!
Fun. As a shopping/sipping experience it falls a bit short on each. Doesnt really feel like a comfortable place to settle in with a beer or to demo an amp/guitar. But I bet its a fun room to see a performance.
Great place to shop for vintage guitars or just look and check them out too. Great beers on tap. Had my guitar serviced here. Michael is very knowledgeable and if I have questions about guitars I find in deals he has always answered back info about them on instagram dms! Definitely a good stop if you are looking at guitar stores in Portland!
My favorite shop in Portland. A lot of shops in Portland are strictly vintage shops. Although, very cool, a lot of those guitars and amps can be out of reach price wise for a lot of people.Strum has a great blend of vintage, semi vintage as well as new and modern gear. They’ve always been extremely helpful with everything from guitar setups/repairs to advice on what gear suits your playing. They serve beer and wine and have regular, live shows throughout the week. Bored on a Sunday? Pop into Strum and catch a live performance and a beer or two and be surrounded by good people and amazing gear.Like I said. Best shop ran by the best people.
I visited with my partner and even though I know almost nothing about guitars, I could tell Strum was a special place. The customer service and ambiance were exceptional - I’d love to come back!
Best selection of vintage/high end guitars and amps in town... And theyve got beers. Love this place
New to the Portland area, enthusiastic about this shop. Very friendly and helpful with an awesome selection of guitars, amps and effects. Hands down my favorite music shop that I have ever visited.
Exactly the type of guitar shop/ venue that makes this city wonderful.
Strum has one of the best selections of vintage and awesome gear in Portland. It is run by very kind people and they helped me get the amp of my dreams in my hands. Next time I am there Ill certainly be getting one of their lovely beers to sip while I browse their fine selection! Recommended to every gear head and beyond.
Hands down the best guitar shop Ive ever been in. The inside is beautiful, the guitars are high end and unique, and theres a bar which is the coolest idea for a guitar shop ever. After saving up and searching for six years, I found the perfect guitar here too. Handmade by a luthier in Portland! The owner was very helpful and kind. Seriously, do yourself a favor and check this place out!
This place rules! So much vintage good stuff. They held a MIM Jazzmaster for me through Instagram messenger. I picked it up an hour later and it was on hold w my name on it. It was a pleasure doing business and I will be back!
Very detail oriented shop, with a great selection of the right kind of player’s gear. Great communication and friendly service. Highly recommended.
The perfect store doesn’t exis..... oh wait. Yes it does. Strum combines an incredibly well-curated selection of guitars amps and pedals and tosses beer and live music (often free or for a small fee) into the mix. The owners children can also be spotted wearing Waylon Jennings t-shirts, which is good exposure if you have kids of your own.
Ive never had the pleasure of visiting this shop in person (I live in LA), but bought a guitar from Strum PDX last year via mail order. GREAT place to shop for vintage gear with nice staff that really know their stuff.
Love love love this place. Awesome music, super chill vibe with incredible collection of vintage guitars that line the walls like artworks, great select beers on tap, owners are super nice and extremely knowledgeable about anything you can strum.
Best place to grab a beer..think..decide...and leave with a perfect guitar. I love this place. Expectations are strange, dont be a weirdo, embrace the beauty of this place.
Strum is the guitar shop that every town wishes they had. They have rare and wonderful guitars, killer amps, unique boutique pedals, a bar that serves beer and wine (WHAT!?), and free live performances from talented musicians most afternoons or evenings (DOUBLE WHAT!?). Michael is a fantastic human who is kind, knowledgeable, and passionate about what he does, and it shows. Even if you cant afford that sweet vintage Gibson up on his wall or that amazing 1970s Fender amp you can only dream of owning, Strum still offers a community space that is unmatched, a wide assortment of picks/strings/accessories, and beyond reasonable setups or repairs on your current axe. 11/10 would recommend.
Strum is simply The Bestest There Is.
There is a 68 year walnut es335, is it really 68 years?
The most “Portland” guitar store there is in the best way possible. This is the shop I send my musician friends to when they are visiting. Great selection of used instruments and amps priced right! But, what makes it special is of course the rotating beer, rad owners, and laid back vibes.
Strum is hands down one of my favorite places in Portland! The guitars, gear, and drinks are great, but the community and the music are what makes Strum what it is.
Strum is a great shop overall, run by a very kind and helpful family. The used guitars they sell, though, are in overall pretty gross condition (dirty, grimy, sticky, rusty strings, etc.). It would be so much better if theyd clean up the guitars before putting them on the wall. They also sell beer at their bar, and have bands play there. It is a pretty good spot for seeing a show.
Im not a guitarist, so Ive only been here for the concerts that they occasionally host, but its one of my favorite venues because the guy who runs it is kind and welcoming, and the place is comfy, cozy, and exceptionally neat and tidy. Seriously, even the bathroom is spotless! Its cleaner than mine at home. Id highly recommend catching a show here if you get the chance.
Unique place, friendly service . Even though I was the only customer there was still a good vibe about it. I also enjoyed a nice beer there.
Cool guitar shop with a nice bar. Attended their current Blues Wednesday event, which features Kim Field and The Perfect Gentlemen February 12, 19, 26, and March 4. Reasonable drink prices and a nice atmosphere. Recommend.
Excellent shop! Always friendly. Amazing selection of guitars.
This is a great small venue to listen to some really good music, have a beer, and hang out.I love it because people go there to LISTEN.Its wonderful.
Really cool place. Michael is super cool. beer and guitars...what a concept!!!!
This place is so lovely to sit, enjoy a drink, listen to lovely music of varied styles, and be surrounded by incredible guitars. I highly recommend for a chill evening. I only hesitate with my 5 stars because of one of the patrons I’ve had the misfortune of running into the past 2 out of 3 times I’ve spent the evening here. Be warned: a tiny woman wearing pearls, a “can I speak to your manager” haircut, and baseball cap with athletic wear will shush you if you so much had whisper a hello to a friend. If you dare to say more then a polite greeting and have a quiet conversation in this bar setting she will whisper/yell a very aggressive shut-up to you or the whole establishment until everyone in the room settles into a quiet awkward silence. Other then this petite middle aged woman, the place is wonderful.
Is it a guitar shop? A bar? A venue?? The answer, apparently, is yes. Im not in the market for a guitar, but they have great (usually) free shows here on a regular basis, and you can order a drink while you watch. Small selection of beers, but really all you need is one you like. Will be back!
Michael was really helpful and professional when I purchased my amp! Great communication and zero pretentiousness!
I was just looking for a place nearby to buy strings, but found this amazing gem! I accidentally enjoyed a (delicious) cider and drooled on the axes hanging everywhere. Ill be coming back soon for the live music!
One of the best places to see a show in portland. intimate & lovely! beautiful guitars & a beautiful space.
In a world where pretentious is often the first word that comes to mind when I hear vintage guitar shop, this place is a wonderful anomaly. There’s so much to love about this place! From the gear inventory to the bowling alley lane turned bar top, every detail has been meticulously and lovingly curated to create a space that is truly special. But here’s where it gets really good, the owners and staff are amazing! I’ve never felt more welcomed or comfortable in a guitar store, and as a musician I’ve been in my fair share. Not a musician, or not in the market for vintage gear? Don’t let that stop you from visiting. Strum hosts live music Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 7 to 9pm at no charge! This vintage guitar bar is quickly becoming one of the hottest venues in town. Do yourself a favor and check it out!
What a great concept! Music and Great local independent craft beer. The owner was so nice to take a few moments to speak with us. They sell Guitars, do repairs, have great beer on tap and they also have live performances!
This place checks all the boxes! Great attitude, professional work and communication, amazing space and community, very reasonable prices on setup and repair work, and an amazing collection of instruments!
Strum Guitars is a cool venue space by night and guitar shop by day. You can drink a beverage, shop for a guitar, try out one, and listen to live music, all at the same time. I highly recommend paying them a visit.
Love this place! Killer selection of guitars, great beer/wine, and live music! A group of us came last week to see a show, and we will definitely be back. The room is great for live music/listening, and the shows are free. Do yourself a favor and check it out.
Interesting. Good concept. Live music was way too loud for the small space. Chairs were uncomfortable. Left early.
Took an old Ibanez SoundGear bass to Strum to get re-strung, receive some minor electronics repairs, and just generally get cleaned-up. They did a great job for a very reasonable price and quick turnaround. Even though the place is filled with beautiful, high-end vintage guitars, they didnt look down on me and my dinky little Ibanez SG and I never sensed a hint of condescension, just a passion for guitars. Highly recommend 👍👍👍
I have walked by this place quite a bit and the atmosphere looked exciting and fun. However the night I went there for a live music show, I felt out of place being under 40. That night was chilled out, and I discovered that they had a limited selection of beer and no liquor.
What a great find! A guitar shop that hosts concerts in an intimate space and sells draft beer. A very pleasant outing.
Amazing hybrid! Bar and instrument store?! You know that means they welcome the best artists, too. :)
What puts Strum above Portlands other used instrument shops is the warm community atmosphere the place gets by combining the virtues of a high end guitar shop, neighborhood bar, and intimate music venue. Whether its a cider or repair work, browsing their well curated vintage gear or consigning some of my own, Ive had nothing but good experiences here.
Strum is awesome! I stumbled upon this adorable bar last weekend after hearing the live music from two blocks down. Super beautiful space and the owners Mike and Natalie couldnt be nicer. Cant wait to go back and hear more tunes!
This place has a great selection of vintage guitars and amps; well-curated but not all expensive. Seems like they’ve made an effort to stock good range of vintage gear, some cheaper and some really rare as well. Bartenders were friendly, very chill atmosphere, and a well-chosen beer menu.
Good beer! Great guitars! Friendly, knowledgeable staff
What a great new spot for vintage guitars/gear, beer/wine, and live music. It’s wonderful to be able to come in and play/listen to music, have a beer, and shop through their amazing selection of gear. A great addition to the neighborhood, and the Portland music/bar scene.
Very friendly, great location. Michael stayed open late to sell me a guitar. I manage a guitar store, but us guitar players know, they are all one of a kind. :)
This is an awesome venue unique old electric guitar store with a tap and live music almost every night. The owner is very supportive of the music community.
Super clean and vintage guitar shop. Beautiful guitars, amps, and also beers to be had on tap! They do music on Thursday nights I believe.
Vintage guitars a bar and live music. What else could you ask for?
Fair prices and speedy repair. Definitely recommend
My go-to guitar store
The place for you if you like guitars and beer. They have some great live music.
This is a super unique bar that also has an extensive selection of vintage guitars and gear for sale. They also have live performances on weekends featuring established musicians in the country, bluegrass, folk, and other similar genres
This place is the best. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and very cool gear.
Great selection, nice staff, and they always have excellent shows!
Great service and killer gear. Best bring yo wallet 🤘
Nice place to prefunk for Revolution hall
Beautiful guitars and a cozy place to see an intimate show.
Great ambiance, music and customers. Michael, the owner, is a wonderful guy.
This is the best new guitar/beer/live music place in Portland. Period.
Beer, guitars and live music...nice trio.
This place is awesome!! Kid friendly too!
Chill atmosphere. Crazy vintage guitars
Great intimate bar and performance space
Gear, beer, guitars. The motto is correct, great place!!!!!
Beer and guitars, what else is there in life?
Loved the atmosphere and the music was great
Very cool place.
Nice ambiance and music
Always fun!
