I had a great experience getting my guitar a partial re-fret. The initial encounter on the phone was great service answering my questions and encouraging me to bring in the guitar for an assessment. Recommendations and options were provided with pros / cons of each approach and budget considerations. The workmanship was great and I am pleased with both the job that was done and my interactions with the entire staff.
Todd did a beautiful job, and a very difficult one at that, reshaped the back of neck, took a neck that was to large R8 Gibson Les Paul a very expensive one and made it very playable for me, I finished the neck in Watco Danish Red Mahogany a perfect match, could not be more pleased. Thank You Portland, Fretworks, at a decent price.
My son took his guitar here to be set up. He just told me he is so excited because his guitar plays so much better than before and he is able to play passages faster and cleaner. Also, he had an issue with the E string breaking. Portland Fret Works went above and beyond to sleuth down the problem and his guitar is working flawlessly. BIG thumbs up for this shop!!! PS My sons guitar has a Floyd Rose locking bridge and they did a great job with it!
High quality job done. They setup my PRS CE 24 perfectly. Took great care of it. Highly recommended!
Brought guitar in for work and was given a ready-by date. Instrument was finally finished weeks after quoted completion time, without updates or communication from the shop. When I finally picked up my guitar, was met with mumbled excuses of emails and calls getting lost in the shuffle instead of getting accountability and professionalism. Brought the guitar home and noticed only some of the work had been completed. Had to bring it to another, better, shop in town (*cough* 12th Fret *cough cough*) to get the job finished right. Dont waste your time with these jokers.
Matt is one of the best techs Ive ever had the pleasure of working with. Completely professional, great prices, and my guitar came back PERFECT. 5/5 👍
Your luck to have your guitar repaired here. They are very good. Long live PFW
Called asking about a quote for a simple pickup swap and coilsplit option for a strat and was told $125. I have had this exaxt job done on a previous guitar, and was never quoted more than $60 for it, and I only ended up paying $40. Do yourself a favor by saving money and shop at the other repair options in town
I will never take my guitars anywhere else. Always professional and helpful. Time frame for work completion is very reasonable. Never any issues. I have had them install pickups in five of my guitars. Each time extremely happy. I highly recommend Portland Fretworks!!
Friendly staff and excellent work at affordable prices.
The place to go if you need any repair work done on the guitar you love
Mike has worked on three of my guitars. Very responsive, easy to talk to, and professional. So glad I was referred to Portland Fret Works. I cannot see myself taking my guitars anywhere else.
They did a superb job with setting up my new G&L Bluestone. Wonderful attention to details.
I was having trouble getting good, consistent tone out of my guitar, and after consulting with my teacher, decided to take it into Fretworks to get it set up. They did an amazing job! It sounds like a new guitar (set up plus lighter strings) and plays like a dream. Ive always gotten great service there, and this time was no exception. Excellent work. Thanks!
Great work replacing the bridge of my Martin guitar. Would recommend to anyone
These guys have worked on 4 of my guitars over the years and I would never take instruments anywhere else. Great people. Amazing work. Always reasonably priced. Highly recommended.
I am amazed at the quality of work these guys do. When it comes to guitar work these guys are top notch. I am more than satisfied.
I had a cable jack repair and set up done on my Stratocaster. Great job and highly recommend.
I took my 64 Gibson Melody Maker to Uptown Music in Keizer OR to talk about a refret and other work that needed done. They send that kind of work to Portland Fret Works. These particular guitars come with a simple one piece bridge. I asked Uptown about upgrading to a 2 piece Les Paul style bridge among other things the guitar needed. They tried to talk me out of it for some reason but sent it up to PFW with a list of my requests. Todd called me with an estimate and was more than happy to do the bridge. This guitar BTW was fairly rough, it had been gigged for 30+ years before I got it. Other than the tuners, it had Schallers on it already, everything the strings touched was replaced. The neck pickup was inoperable when I dropped it off but Todd went through all the electronics as well and repaired what was needed. I got it back 2 weeks earlier than expected and this guitar plays better than any other that I own. Quality work, good communication and fair pricing in my opinion. Ill use them again
Aways good dudes.
This guys are wizards when it comes to repairs on guitars and other instruments. I had a rare guitar that they had original parts for. The job was much more affordable than I thought and my guitar looks and sounds great again.
Fast repairs and excellent service. Extremely reasonable pricing.
The Shop is top notch, friendly, and extremely reasonable with their pricing. I had them clean up / level / etc. the frets on a LP style guitar and I wont be taking my guitars anywhere else from here on out. It plays amazing. Out of all the places I checked, their pricing was way below the others and the turnaround time was literally 1 day.Highly recommended
They took good care of my Jazzmaster.
Intpnation is fixed! Thanks guys
I took my Les Paul future tribute in to Portland Fret Works for repair of a massive crack in the body after moisture got to it over the winter. There had to be at least 5/16 gap between the surfaces of the body at the crack. I was told it would take about a month for them to get to it but it was well worth the wait because the repair job was amazing and the cost came in well under the quote I was given
Ive had several guitars set up, pickups/pots upgraded, nuts replaced, frets leveled, general maintenance and repairs, etc... Roy is my go to luthier and he always does a great job. Portland Fretworks is the business!
These folks are great! Really nice people and do great work. Been coming to them for many years. Always my first call whenever someone asks Where should I take my guitar (or any string instrument)
Ive taken several guitars to the people at The Portland Fret Works for setup and repair. You get the vibe they are serious in their craft! Im picky. They have exceeded every time. Happy to recommend them! :)
Three words: incompetent, arrogant, underhanded. Do you ever wonder why he has a revolving door of guitar techs in his shop?Take your hard-earned money somewhere else.
Great place! Worth every dollar. Went the extra mile for me
Top notch guitar work. Highly recommend.
Always great
These are an incredibly talented and friendly group of business owners and professionals. I’ve had 5 or more of my guitars worked on, and two complete builds done, and every single interaction was not only fun and satisfying, but above my hopes.I’m actually heading there today, and recommend Portland Fretworks to anyone interested in quality luthier work.
All of my guitars and ukuleles have been set up and/or repaired at Portland Fretworks. They are extremely good at their profession and very pleasant to work with. The prices are always reasonable and explained in advance.
Fretworks does all my work because they have great respect for the instruments and great skill. Generally Ive had them install pick ups and do set ups, but Ive had a few minor repairs as well... all with great results.
They do fine work
Once again, expectations have been exceeded. My Taylor GS 7 needed a cosmetic touchup on the top, a new saddle, and the action reset. Todd repaired the divot in the top and reset the neck, and replaced the saddle. It came out of the shop perfect! Theres no other word to use. I also asked him to fabricate a pick guard and put it on. Also perfect. Exactly what Id envisioned.I have great faith in the folks at Fretworks. Every time they work on one of my guitars, and theyve worked on five now, the results are better than I hoped for. My compliments and thanks to them all.
These folks did a great job fixing up a mandola I had recently acquired. Quick service- only a week to do some fretwork, pickup install, and tuning machine replacement.
These guys did a great job on my Taylor 612ce and Fender telecaster. got a bone nut and saddle replacement and full electronics upgrade on the Taylor and pickup realignment on the fender as well as a full setup adjutement on both.both play beautifully now. thanks guys!
Professional setup on my Gibson mandolin now plays so much better than factory setup.
Simply put i love this place. todd has done amazing work on my instruments over the years - from 1800s martins to lap steels and telecasters i trust all my babies with him. cant recommend PFW enough.
Really great work and service.
They made a new nut for my mandolin. It was very well made, but the string spacing was screwy. They have been unresponsive to my requests for a remedy.
Knowledgeable staff thats always willing to talk guitars and steer you in the right direction.
Very nice people. They seem to be skilled and professional.
Did an amazing job on a fret level a few years back
Excellent work. They dont take ccards so be prepared.
They know their stuff !! Excellent work, excellent service!
I recently had Fretworks work on my Yairi (Alvarez) guitars. They did a setup on my DY 74C as well as repairing a small ding in the body. It plays much better now and you cannot see where the body damage was at all.On my FY 40 they reset the neck and replaced the pick guard. Resetting the neck was quite a chore, but it came out perfectly. I could not be happier. The quality of craftsmanship is excellent, the pricing is fair considering the quality of the work, and the people are pleasant and easy to work with. I highly recommend Fretworks.
First time to Portland Fret works. Took my Larrivee in for a bone nut and saddle, and my Strat to fix some tuning issues. The Larrivee feels and sounds better than ever and the g string on the Strat stays in tune. I will look no further if I ever need to have another guitar looked at. Great service.
Great work did more then what I payed for!
Beautiful shop. Friendly and professional luthier did a minor repair on my Kala U Bass in no time at all, explaining what she was doing and why.
Super professional and awesome people!
This was probably 7 years ago. 1979 Stratocaster fret replacement, on a maple neck. The price was better than 12th fret. But after about 2 weeks I noticed lacquer damage, 4th fret, middle of the fret (tear-drop shaped laquer melted or scraped). Todd had not told me about it, but tried to clean it up and put some kind of liquid polish on the wood stain to make it look varnished. Of course, it didnt take long to wear off and get dirty.Funny - after the refret, I took my Dillion PRS knockoff in to have him try to solve a vibrato problem - G, B strings not returning to tune. He turned me down, and said he wouldnt touch it - his words. Dont know if it was the quality of the guitar, or a guilty conscience. This was before I had noticed the neck damage on the strat. Not real happy with Todd. Didnt confront him - not my style. Havent been back since.
Always very happy with the results. Not always happy with interaction between salespeople and myself
Quality craftsmen. Very friendly.
Great place to take a guitar
I’ll bring all of my guitars to these guys
Amazing place
