Great folks, no attitude (other than helpful) for this synth newbie. Amazing selection of synths, keyboards, etc.
Closed on a day they’re open. I’m from out of town. When I asked about their local scene, they directed me to their website and also told me it hasn’t been updated in a while. Nice looking place, though.
Amazing selection of synths and a fantastic staff! Cant wait until the showroom is open again and CV is doing workshops and demos!
Kindly helping me spend all of that stimulus money, 10/10 - look forward to visiting the showroom one day when this is all over!
I bought a Shure SM58 for live streaming. Transaction was smooth and simple. Owner takes covid seriously and seems like a cool guy. I would shop here again for mixing boards and whatnot.
You have to order online and choose store pick up in the order form to get it, everyone seems real polite, helpful, and cool.
Extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff. Started buying modules from them after covid, and pickup process was a breeze. Thanks guys!
Synth paradise. The guys that run this shop are all fine folk who can easily answer any questions you have on analog/digital synthesis and modulation. They keep their inventory fresh and are always riding the bleeding edge of whats on the market. Definitely worth your time.
Great to have this resource and great staff! When I came in I asked if someone could help me get started playing with a synth from a place with zero knowledge & they were generous with their time. Got addicted and kept coming back and using their time and knowledge to decide what I want to do, and I still continue to. They also support local orgs like s1 to increase access to the community.
I visit PDX once a year and everytime im there i make a point of visiting CV at least twice in a weekend. Staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Due to COVID i wont be traveling to PDX anytime soon, but i am still relying on CV for all my eurorack needs. Recently i purchased a Hermod at around 4pm on a friday thinking they may ship next week. at 5pm a label is created, 5:15pm picked up by mail carrier and at my door in SF Monday morning. I cant stress enough what an amazing store this is!
They have been great with online shopping and pickup during these different days, Highly recommended!
This place is dangerous if you were thinking about buying a piece of gear but werent sure if you were ready to pull the trigger. Feel like I almost always walk out with something at this place. You can play and test out everything. A dream for gear nerds.
Great shop if you’re into synthesizers or just want to look at all the pretty toys. They stock Teenage Engineering products which is what first brought me in. Staff is friendly and helpful
A terrific synth shop in a great neighborhood. I have been to CV for events and the staff is super friendly and knowledgable. All the instruments are laid out nicely with headphones for demos. Highly recommended for anyone interested in synthesizers.
Helpful and nice staff! :)
Great shop with a very curated collection of Synths. Really helpful staff and competitive pricing.
Its a good chance to see obscure Eurorack gear in person. But I have to concur with a few other reviews: the employees seemed more interested in chatting with their buddies than in helping new customers.
Great customer service and amazing gear. Bought a Machinedrum from CV in amazing condition and at the best price Ive seen. Only bad thing I can see about this place is the amount of money I will be tempted to spend at Control Voltage. Thanks again CV
In my opinion this is worlds greatest music store. Exceptional service, fantastic range of products. Should be one in very city! Headphones attached to almost every bit of gear to try out is something more stores should do. Visited in August 2017.
I flew 2000 mi to go to this store on my vacation. I have 6-figures worth of modular gear and represent a local modular group with over 500 members. I teach modular. The staff couldn’t have cared less about me. I tried to strike up a conversation but all the employees wanted to do was gossip about Thom Yorke having been in the store. I even wore my synthesizer T-shirt. These guys are totally pretentious jerks. Avoid.
Awesome spot for any lover of synthesizers or keyboards. The staff is always eager to help you find something to fit your needs or show you a solution for a technical issue. Super helpful and approachable.
Best synthesizer shop I have ever been to. Amazing service from staff. They are not at all pushy, and very knowledgeable. I often go in just to ask for their advice in my setup, and they are very helpful and excited to talk synthesizers.
Service here is some of the worst I’ve seen anywhere. The guy with the corny face tattoos treated us like garbage when we asked nicely how something worked and told us to go play with one of the other ones and snubbed us after. Honestly the place isn’t bad, just avoid that guy, he makes it not worth going in really.
I stop in here every time I visit Portland.. Impossible not to leave without a credit card dept. The staff are very friendly, and everything is laid out in such a way you want to drop everything and play with the gear. So many modules, and all the important ones seem to be well stocked.
So many synths to try out! I had so much fun playing around with all the knobs and buttons. A worker even gave me a splitter to use so my partner and I could play and listen together.
Every two weeks I deposit a portion of my paycheck into the synthesizer bank for the safekeeping of my sanity.
Great selection. Could spend all day there and some.
A WICKED little shop with a ton of selection and very informative and kind employees!
Probably without a doubt one of the neatest stores Ive ever set foot in. The owners are also very awesome and willing to help you learn what all of this insane equipment does, and how to use it. Definitely passionate about what they do.
This is the best Synthesizer shop in Portland hands down. So much fun and theyve got cool synths to demo and dream about.
Only my first visit, but Ill be coming back as the selection of playable synths and friendly staff is fantastic. Great atmosphere!
We are so lucky to have a place like this here. Its a great spot to shop and its nice to be able to come in and feel at home jamming out on modular.
Super fun and non pretentious staff. Very helpful
This place is Way Too Much Fun! Great, helpful people work there, too.
Great friendly and knowledgeable staff keeps me coming back for more, the stuff they sell is secondary. These guys rock!
A toy store full of beautiful synths of all varieties. The staff will actively help you and teach you how to use the complex synths they have on display
Super nice and knowledgeable. Answered all of our questions and gave great recommendations.
This place is fascinating, albeit a bit overwhelming. The spread of synthesizers available to patch and tweak is intimidating, but you can tell the kind folks running the place absolutely live, breathe, and know their stuff. If you have an interest, stop by and ask for a demo.
My favorite store! The employees are always friendly and helpful.
Control Voltage is a really great store. I live in Seattle and thus use the website for my orders. All my orders have gone off without a problem and the free shipping arrives within 3 days. And when I have need to call and as questions, I always get answers. The are my first choice for modular synths!
Such a wide selection of gear and amazing store. Shame most employees will treat you like garbage
Its the one independent shop in Portland that sells all your synth needs. New and used synths and Eurorack gear. Great staff that will help you find what you need.
Nice staff, cool stuff hooked up to mess with. You can also play with the stuff under the counter which is awesome if youre looking to buy something.
Jason and other employees are always ready to help and answer questions. They know their gear and can easily offer options and alternatives.
This place is a dream for anyone who loves to create music with synthesizers. I would recommend coming here if you are a beginner or an expert the staff is awesome. Everything is out in the open to try out and there is no pressure to buy. Its a shame there isnt a place like this in the California bay area!
I love that a place like this exists, but like most music stores, its staffed with condescending hipsters whod rather have their friend play around on the equipment than tend to paying customers. Some really sweet gear on offer, though.
Super knowledgeable, awesome and well kept store... great deals on high quality gear and a portland staple. cool to visit.
A clean, organized, modern and (most importantly) laid-back synthesizer store. Friendly and helpful staff are welcoming to patrons of all levels. Control Voltage carries a wide variety of modular, standalone, analog, digital, boutique and big-name synthesizers/sequencers and drum machines.Dont be afraid to go in and ask questions even if youre a beginner. I was encouraged by staff to play around with their floor models. I wound up purchasing a small synthesizer from BASTL instruments which I never see in stock back home. I dont live in the area, but Im very excited to stop in on my next trip to Portland!
Walking into Control Voltage is like dying and going to synthesizer heaven. Super knowledgeable, friendly staff and s surprisingly broad stock - everything from modular to vintage to software. Literally paradise.
A diverse array of synthesizers, some midi and cabling essentials, and many items are hooked up and ready to jam! Great service, knowledgeable staff, and no high pressure sales junk :)
All things synth-y, analog and digital, with all the knobs, buttons, sliders, and modules with none of the snobbery. Very approachable, knowledgeable and friendly staff, and a mindbending variety of gear for all budgets.
These guys are awesome. I’ve bought a couple of modules from them and I still use them today.
What a fun place. They have everything synthish! Worth the trip.
A great store for electronic music enthusiasts. You can try or play with numerous synthesizers setup on the tables for this purpose. Friendly staff.
Great collection of Synthesizers! Staff seemed awkward and unhelpful. I asked if they carried Akai products and instead of pointing me to another solution, they proceeded to attend to their own matters.
Awesome place to demo the latest and vintage analog synths. The staff here is awesome and friendly. Super helpful.
They are always helpful with plenty of good advice if you need it. Ive purchased over 10 modules total so far from Control Voltage over repeated visits with no regrets. I will definitely be shopping here again. The Eloquencer is awesome and the Belgrad can do some truly sweet phaser-like effects! Thanks guys!
Super friendly staff. Nice synth collection to play...
Super helpful and if you want to just put on headphones and try out a bunch of synths, the staff will leave you alone while still being willing to answer any silly questions you may have.
Great place to come and experiment. Very nice staff
Great selection, extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff. Stop by even if youre only coming to play with the synths.
Wide selection of electronic music gear, most of which you can demo on the spot! Very helpful and knowledgeable staff.
Ive been shopping at Control Voltage remotely from San Francisco for a year now. Theyre pretty damn not bad
Really amazing collection of synths & nice people! They even have a video synthesizer you can play with in the store.
This is my favorite store in the world, its like a little museum. The staff is so friendly and informative and seem very happy to talk to you (or teach you in a very patient manner) about synths. They have the most amazing synths in the world (Minimoog D, Grandmother, Prophet 6, OB 6, Prologue, a bunch of Elektron stuff, a whole lot of modules and more) and youre allowed to play all of em! I wish there was a store like this where I live, cant wait to come back.
The absolute best store in the universe!
The guys that run this place are helpful, insightful, and enjoy being enthusiasts of synthesizers and much more. Ive been a regular customer for over a year now and every visit brings me closer to my goals of hoarding every gadget in the joint. Even if youre not necessarily ready to blow done cash, there is plenty to explore, from walls of Euroracks 2ith more knobs and switches than several 747s-to samplers and synths, keyboards and theremins, effect pedals and solar powered capacitive-touch instruments, etc etc etc. Dont let it intimidate you, ask for some help understanding and surely youll learn something. Or if you know what youre doing, bring some headphones and try out their regular flow of new arrivals! Happy Jamming!
Coolest strictly synth store Ive ever been in. Not cheap but great selection.
Portlands best Synthesizer shop, hands down. All hands on, go twist some knobs!!
Great place with excellent inventory and quality people!
Friendly & Helpful Staff amazing selection of gear
When I first moved to Portland from Los Angeles, this was one of the first places I went to. Being a synth nerd myself, this was like being a kid in a candy store! An absolute great collection of synths, both fixed and modular, all displayed nicely with a very aesthetically clean layout to the store, and everything can be demoed as there are headphones setup at each synth station. The owner, Jason, is very knowledgable and helpful as is the rest of his staff. And they are not just there to sell you gear (in fact, there is no sales pressure at all) but they are there to educate; often holding free seminars and product demos from the manufacturers themselves!Definitely a breath of fresh air from the big chain music stores Im use to in Los Angeles (e.g. Guitar Center, Sam Ash)
This place is awesome.
Cool synth spot with nice helpful staff
This store has all five star ratings for a reason ;)
Really friendly staff and a pleasure to browse and demo gear. Wonderful!
Amazing place to find the best in new and old electronic music making equipment!!!
The nicest dudes. Didnt mind me just playing all the synths, and loved talking about gear even though I had no clue what I was talking about.
Super rad store. Knowledgeable staff
Super Wednesday special where they let you take your boots off and then you can Get a free Discount for nearly 70% off steep discounts
Great employees and a great selection of synthesizers to try and buy
Ive bought a ton of gear from Control Voltage. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff.
This is the best place to try and buy analog synths in Portland. Period.
Very helpful staff and cool environment.
Super knowledgeable, patient and great all around!
Helpful, cool stuff, lots of gear to try
Patient and knowledgeable staff
The spot in Portland for the Euro synth geek
