We took a road trip up north and saw this store on our way towards downtown prescott, so we stopped in. Everyone was very friendly and super helpful. Their prices on ammo were great as well. They even gave us some great recommendations for local places to eat lunch.
A useful gun shop with much upside. It does help to know what you are doing to steward justice in transactions. Shoppers in firearms and related equipment have different goals, needs and personality types. HCGK is not the ideal shop for all new-comers to the gunpowder universe but that makes it better in some ways for others. Some of the store policies can seem geared to offend, some reviewers mention not being permitted to take apart used sale firearms... The flip side of that scenario includes understanding the pain of a store staff member realizing that someone pocketed a removable rare bolt action bolt or other hard to replace component. Guns and gun rights are a deep river in the American experience and there are definitely many pinch-points where feathers get ruffled. HCGK people have provided good service to me on several occasions.
I’ve bought powder (Varget) from them when I couldn’t find what I was looking for elsewhere & they were fine, no problems at all. Actually one of my best friends who worked for Sierra Bullets found it for me & they saved it until I had a chance to pick it up. I have no problems/issues with them at all. Just now called them about another issue & they were very courteous!
I stopped in and met 2 employees, I told the owner that I was from out of state but am a certified instructor, he showed me anything that I wanted to see, an extremely pleasant visit.
Knowledgeable ADULTS work there who understand everything there is to know about firearms and ammo. For all the millennials leaving negative reviews, take your man buns and Tesla’s to Starbucks to buy your soy lattes and guns from now on.....
Mostly pleasant workers- except for one angry, disrespectful old boomer. Prices through covid havent been hiked too bad, compared to places like J&G, so theyve won my business for the time being. But, when prices come down, Id rather go somewhere where I feel like my business is appreciated. Wish I had his name- but I think everyone knows who it is- because its really just one of the guys here.
Its your stereotypical boomer store full of outdated and overpriced products. The owner is as clueless as he is impolite. It would violate my moral code to fail to expressely say to shop literally anywhere else.
This shop is great and Roger is the best, I will personally take a drive to buy from Roger, the ones that leave one star reviews need counseling, I will buy several guns from here
I stop by when I am in town. Knowledgeable friendly service. Great selection of guns.
These guys are some grumpy old men, they can be rude and make you feel uncomfortable.
Great people, knowledgeable. They wont B.S. you. People forget that they are there to sell guns not to be servants or be belittled. The people there are old but with lots of experience and great customer service.
I have been shopping at High Country Guns & Knives for many years been to all the rest of the store still prefer this one. They are very knowledgeable takes the time to explain things to you. I recommend them to everyone.
This shop is well known to the locals as high priced guns. They do have a large showroom with lots of different models, especially cowboy action lever action. Some of the comments regarding customer service are true. I think it may be just a case of grumpy old man syndrome as some days I have gone in there they were very helpful and others I walked right back out. I have bought quite a few guns from them as their used gun prices are pretty fair. They did burn me a bit once recently which is the reason for my 3 star review. I spent $3,000+ at once on a small group of military firearms. I was not allowed to take them part to check correctness. Any collector knows why. I was informed if I did even the most basic field strip or touched anything that I would be buying it on the spot. I should have just walked out of there. The person I came into the shop with even made a comment why I would be willing to spent that amount of money after someone was rude and wouldnt let me properly inspect the rifles. I was then repeatidly told that the one rifle I had concerns about was completely correct and their local expert had checked it over and cleaned it. Needless to say the internal parts I saw were not correct and indicated a rebuilt rifle, not what I wanted to see. Since it also put it into a different value bracket ( less than I paid) So because of this incident I have lost trust in this place and their word. due to their policy of not allowing serious customers to properly inspect their items I would not recommend a collector shop here, just cant trust them if you cant see it for yourself.
Love this place, been shopping here for over a decade. Alway been treated fair, theyve always had what Ive needed, from gun powder to Optics. Great selection of ammo & firearms. As for pricing, they are comparable to what you would pay at any other gun shop, some things are a little high, but even then its not outrageous by any means. If you ask for advice you will receive real world unbiased advice, not sugar coated sales points.
Very happy with the service here. They were very friendly and were incredibly helpful. I was able to get information through a phone call beforehand, and they offered to hold the item for me. Definitely recommend!
This is a great gun shop. Very knowledgeable staff. Great selection and reasonable prices. This reminds me of going to a old time barbershop. You are free to come in, brouse, swap stories, jokes, and have a great time.I am shocked at how negative the other reviews were. Maybe they were having a bad day?Sincerely one of the last great gun shops in a great location at Prescott.
I was in the store looking for a particular item and the person that was taking care of me had me come behind the counter to examine some holsters I was looking at. After about 1 minute there looking at options I was very rudely told to get out from behind the counter by I will assume was the owner. What a jerk!
I couldnt disagree more with some of the last ratings. I have never had poor or nasty service. I have purchased many firearms and misc. supplies from there for over 10 years. To me value is more than strictly price...I consider the service I receive a huge part of the value of my purchase. The salesman have always taken whatever time I needed to help me make the right decision. I live in the valley and have a home in Prescott and always wait to buy my products from them when Im in town. Believe me they have always met my expectations!
Great bunch of guys . very knowledgeable and helpful. Great inventory of guns and ammo and tons of accessories. Best gun shop in town !!
Great selection of guns! Unfortunately they dont stand behind anything they sell and they sell guns that have known issues. I would recommend going to this shop to see and feel whats on the market but I would not suggest purchasing anything from this shop. All the comments you read about arrogant and combative staff are 100% accurate. I will never buy anything from this shop again but will likely go in to give the staff a hard time.
Great people and great service. Found exactly what I was looking for. They have a great selection. Highly recommended.
Awesome store, neat guys. I was on vacation stayed at the Comfort Inn right down the street. I would buy from them online if they had a website I could have items shipped to.
I have been in here several times. Staff are always friendly, always have a great stock of guns, and more importantly to me, ammo and reloading components, as well as a nice selection of knives and other tactical gear. Recommend it.
Terrible Customer Service. I was looking at trading a few guns for another. One man said bring them in and he would blue book their value for me to trade. When I came back another man started blue booking my guns. He looked at the first one and said he wouldnt take it because he thought it was Russian. I corrected him and showed on the side that it was Italian made but he didnt care. I asked nicely if I could just get the blue book value but instead he told me to take my guns and leave. What a JERK! Went to J&G Guns sales and they had the same gun for $200 less anyways. Never going to that terrible business again!
I went in today with a simple problem, a folding knife I bought online had the opening thumb knob on the wrong side of the blade, a problem because I only have one arm. It uses a tiny star-shaped screw. I asked the guy if he could switch it over, even offered to pay for about 1 minutes work. Nope, we dont sell that brand (Ka-Bar) so I wont touch it. Said I could try some other place, perhaps in PV, but he wouldnt help. I was in a wheelchair, having lost a leg as well, so no car. Im also a vet. Thanks for nothing High Country.
The owner has a bad attitude and treats even his employees like trash. I highly recommend you go somewhere else.
Too many places in Prescott to do business with. People there are grumpy and dont stand behind products they sell, go to Bucky Oneils, avoid the cigarette smoke and have a fun experience with good attitudes.
After reading other reviews, I was skeptical at first about going to this gun shop. I knew which gun I was looking to buy, but not sure which model. The staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. After I decided which model I wanted, they showed me accessories I didnt know were available.I would definitely go here for any future purchases.
High Country Gun Knives has a huge selection of including some hard to find ones. They even had .22 ammo at a great price!
These guys have an ok selection of rifles, honestly just what you would expect from a small town shop run by old guys. Most of the accessories are old man things like leather owb holsters and surplus stuff. The guys that worked there were nice enough. The real issue is that everything was over priced. Specifically, I needed a Glock 17 mag, and they charged 40$ for it. Ammo prices were also about 20% higher than anywhere else in town.Really the most redeeming thing about the shop is the massive selection of knives. No other place in the area has the same selection of quality knifes, however Im willing to bet youll also pay at least 15-20% more here than you would if you just bought online.
Love this store, great customer service!BTW Roger is a badass
Nice clean well outlaid store. prices are a little high and service can be unpredictable at best, sometimes they can be very nice ... Beware; as far as firearm laws go, their info is outright wrong, more based on opinion not facts.
Great supply of firearms but they are overpriced and customer service is bad.
Customer service was a joke! They have absolutely no idea how to interact with the human species..
Lots of inventory tons of reloading supplies. Decent prices.
Very knowledgeable, knew exactly what I needed.
I can describe them with one word. Turds
Lol rude basterds
Horrible Customer Service. I will not shop here.
Rude and/or arrogant depending on which guy is there.
This store is horrible they have horrible customer service and they wont let people under 21 years of age I the store even escorted by an adult this store sucks ass!
Great selection.
