Heard good reviews and couldn’t wait to try. Unfortunately Ice cream was bland. Mint chip barely tastes minty and the chocolate shell was bland and waxy. The other flavor had small bits of “fat” like coconut oil or something. I rubbed it between my fingers and seemed like an oil. Also a gritty texture, not creamy. The young man behind the counter was super friendly and helpful, and my husband’s chocolate raspberry mousse was excellent. Next time I’ll pass on the ice cream.
Last night, on my way home I was craving some ice cream. I was sitting at the light at the intersection of California/Sierra (Plumas) when it hit me ...Im not going to the store. Im going inside Black Rock Dessert to get a hand-packed pint of Deep Chocolate. While Im waiting for the pint to finish getting packed I notice they have egg nog ice cream called Just Nog. #FunFact: I love egg nog so it was a no-brainer to ask for a scoop in a cup to-go.The moment I walked in the door at home, I turned on The Mandalorian and dug into Just Nog. Its safe to say that the scoop didnt last long. WOW. They hit another home run with that flavor. If youre a fan of supporting local businesses and havent made time to check out Black Rock Dessert, find the time and get over there. Kudos to them.
Super overpriced, but it’s a neat concept. We’ll probably go back when it’s a little less busy and see if this first experience was a fluke. But everything was a bit underwhelming given the media hype and the price tags— will update later.Below is the “trash can.” Pick an ice cream flavor, choose sweet or fruity, and the artists do the rest. I picked vanilla and asked for fruity, but not cherry. Ended up a chocolate loaded thing instead — isn’t that “sweet?”
We were super excited about this place but it was disappointing overall and wont be rushing back. The major thing is they seem to be a bit skimpy on ice cream, whether it is in the sundaes or shakes. My sundae just had one smallish scoop of ice cream. As another reviewer pointed out, the shake we had tasted more like flavored milk than any kind of shake weve ever had--just very thin and milky. They may do better in the baked goods department as the giant cookie we had was pretty good. Also, look at the owners responses to other reviews--they have a really negative and judgmental attitude. While I dont subscribe to the idea that the customer is always right, that kind of attitude in responding to customers is unprofessional and that will motivate us to look elsewhere for creative desserts.
Absolutely delightful! I love Icecycle Creamery and am so happy they have a Black Rock Dessert in Midtown! My favorite is Home Means Nevada, but you cant go wrong with any of their other flavors. Thank you for the yummy treats!
Tried this place out for the first time. Good Gourmet made in town local ice cream. Kids behind the counter were very friendly. Hubby ordered a vanilla and dark chocolate and swirl that together with nuts and he loved it. I got the orange blossom chocolate chip it was very fun and refreshing. Other reviews say it was expensive I dont quite agree with. Other ice cream towns straps in town are way more expensive.
Been a few times. Interesting tasty flavors.Their Carot cake is one of the best tasting ice creams Ive ever had.The ice-cream leaves a waxy film on the top of your mouth. So much that its off putting, wouldnt recommend getting more than one scoop unless you want to be like a dog with peanut butter.
Nothing like the ice cream of the Midwest. It was thin and not as flavorful. It was still good, and they had several very unique flavors. im
Really yummy stuff! Had some shakes and they were perfect!
I love dessert and this place did not disappoint! So many options to choose from, there is something for everyone! The employees were incredibly helpful and friendly too!
Having a bad day, we decided to go have a milkshake. It was the best idea that we came up with! We found our new favorite dessert place. The gentleman working was very friendly. He enjoyed telling us all about opening up the business, how they make their own ice cream, and how they use local ingredients. We will return again and again. The wait can be long, but it is well worth it. -Regina
Kewl concept, unfortunately the sundae and bread pudding were about as bland and boring as the middle schoolers working the counter. No one with any baking experience. All the preliminary questions for toppings were asked after we got the ice cream...and the place itself is just super boring ...this is not a burner memorabilia spot...someone passionate about BRC and Burning man could really ramp this place up!! Get new ownership and burners behind the counter,!!!
Nice little place, love the environment, if you like sweets, this is your place..for me, it was way too much sugar, but i definitely see the appeal and encourage everyone to try it for themselves
Over charged us. Didnt realize till we got back to our hotel. We over 14 items. Ice cream tasted weird. I think the ice cream at the stores tasted better.
We went for an afternoon snake and loved it. We will be back.
I had a great experience here. The staff was jovial and extremely helpful. The ice cream flavors were delicious. I enjoyed a scoop of Home Means Nevada, and my son enjoyed the purple ice-cream which was made of coconut milk, blueberries, and lavender. Both flavors were so yummy! Since there were tables outside, and the weather was agreeable, we ate outside. Towards the end of his scoop, my son told me he had to use the bathroom, so we masked up and went inside to inquire about a restroom. I didnt even need to say a single word; the gentleman behind the counter recognized the urgency on my sons face and told us exactly what we needed to know! I was extremely impressed!
Over all pretty good, wasnt a fan of their bread pudding as it had bananas. I ordered their strawberry lemon sorbet as the coconut (df) option didnt sound appealing. I wish they offered more dairy free options but overall it was pretty good. I did try some of the vanilla ice cream and it was tasty.
I got the Cereal Chiller and its definitely worth the days Im going to stay up after drinking it!
I dont think theyre storing the ice cream properly. Massive ice chunks and a horrible icy texture.Ive had this creamerys ice cream many times before (at their main location, when they had a cart at food truck fridays, and from my own freezer) and the texture has never been gritty or freezer burned.
Its got that cheap Millennial look about the place. Horrible sheet metal chairs.
Not sure whats going on here but I was driving around looking for an ice cream place close by as my 4 year old wanted ice cream with a CHERRY. I assumed this place was going to be sufficient for that, judging by a quick glance at the photos. The walked in and was the only person. Noticed the place was pretty cool. I was thirsty and saw the cooler of New York Seltzer... SCORE (my favorite). A lady came up from the back. She seemed busy with something back there. Anyways, I said, can I get a kid scoop of Birthday (something) and she kind of cut me off asking cup or cone?.. as I was about to say on a cone.. So assuming she was in a hurry I just ordered a small scoop instead of a milkshake of orange (something) chocolate chip. Then I asked her if she could please put a cherry on it cuz my daughter wanted a Cherry. She apologized and said they dont have cherries. ( which looking at the pictures more closely now... none of them have a CHERRY..but I assumed thats just a standard with banana splits and such..? They DID have whip cream and tiny round Sprinkles though so whatever (probably fine). Other people walked in, I paid and went to the car, handed my daughter her cone and looked down at my cup of ice cream and started laughing!Now... I think $10 for a kid scoop on a cone (cone was just generic brand), small scoop in cup and a New York Seltzer is a fair decent price... But Look at my LITERALLY 4 bites of Ice Cream! LoLI was like HUH?... Anyways, the texture was interesting and different. not sure if its like a healthy ice cream place or something because it didnt taste sweet at all! not even the chocolate chips they tasted like maybe carrot chips or something..? pretty bland but not bad.My daughter did not like hers and wanted to trade me LOL. Hers tasted different as well, but not badOVERALL... definitely not something to get for kids who are used to Baskin Robbins. ;))As for myself, I would probably order again (giant size to equal what I consider a small scoop).. if I was a millionare.
Great first time experience. Friendly and helpful staff to serve you at its finest. Great flavors and seasonal specials. Will definitely be back for more! Addicting taste & great atmosphere
The ice cream is delicious. I favor the Home Means Nevada flavor and the Strawberry Lemonade Sorbet. Also try their banana split!
Pretty amazing dessert experience. I split a reasonably priced brownie sundae with peppermint pretzel ice cream with my daughter and it was too much for the two of us. It included hot fudge, hardening chocolate syrup, cherry boba, and whipped cream.
This place is pretty cool. Unique flavors and cool shakes. Service is pretty fast as well.
Not something to be had every day, but wow is it delicious! A must try is the Reno 911 ice cream, a coffee and donut flavored ice cream made with donuts fresh from another local shop. Black Rock Dessert doesnt disappoint. Loved the vibe and staff was super nice.
Lovely experience, small and cozy. Amazing ice cream with crazy flavors.
It was nice to visit the new store. The store is clean and tidy. The icecream that was ordered was stacked. The only drawback is that their creations when made with chocolate gets rock hard to where you cant take it out of the container. Their other store is known for their yummy sandwiches.
Ice cream was super good, but our trash fence wasnt even close to the pictures. Only had one candy cane and one cookie and a chocolate coated rim. Expected a lot more from the pictures.
Horrible icecream flavors and high prices! If youre into goat cheese icecream, sagebrush, or lavender flavor give it a go. It was good for a laugh at least though
Delicious and inventive desserts. Eclectic vibe. Great and funky local alternative.
Must try bucket list kinda place. Was very impressed with the freshness of the ingredients. You will be hooked immediately.
One of the best and unique ice creams Ive ever had. I had the passion of the goat made with goat cheese and passion fruit. The flavor was out of this world and it was so creamy. Its owned by an awesome long time Burner. It has all the Burning Man references, puns, and decor. Theres even a photo of the playa ground on the tables.
Super delicious place, unique flavors and authentic ice cream. I had the passion fruit goat cheese ice cream and my girlfriend had fruit loops cereal milk and coffee donut. All super delicious and super friendly staff.
Awesome. Great place to have dessert. Friendly staff. Good ice cream creative flavors. Recommend highly.
Fun unique flavors that change monthly and the best rich chocolate ice cream ever!
I went in because the coffee shop next door was closed so when I came they suggested they I tried the Reno 911 ice cream, which I then got as a root beer float it was very tasty treat Id love to come back with friends and family for more! 🍦🍧🍨💙
The desserts are off the phricken hook. Do yourself a favor and get down and supprt this locally owned and operated business. Remember your support may be what allowsn them to keep living their dream!
Service was great and the ice cream was unique and delicious.
Im already a diehard fan. This place has fun decor, reasonable prices, friendly & knowledgeable staff, its open late, & there are great unique flavors - an Icecycle Creamery hallmark. I had the Home Means Nevada (sage & pine nut), which was a light & bright choice for a hot day. I live within walking distance of the shop so I need you to go buy something & keep this place in business!
Very cool ice cream flavors and milkshakes, the family loved it.
It was good, very expensive and the shake was more like flavored milk.
Great service from Chelsea !Pretty tasty ice cream, I’m more of a high BF content guy, but the creative flavors and fun atmosphere made for a solid experience.
We ordered the trash fence but Daft Punk never showed up ):
Sorry but the milk shakes tasted like milk only very very thin definitely not worth the money I spent concept was cool just executed poorly on the good side the passion of the goat ice cream was tasty but over all not ed
Really delicious unique desserts...locally owned and well worth any wait you might have
Definitely gourmet icecream. Amazing creamy texture and Bold flavors. Good stuff.
High end creamery. I hope reno is ready for this one. Im not so sure.
Best ice cream i have had in a very long time.
Good start up, I hope they last cause this stuff was good
It was the best ice cream Ive ever had!
Ive missed banana splits, and it was amazing
