Moved to the city recently and was so excited to explore this store, especially with how interesting and inclusive they are with the models on their Instagram. I had the chance to visit and it was okay! The salespeople (3 or 4 I think?) all stayed near the front, which is understandable for the jewelry, and I didnt really need help looking. They have some really nice things, but I was a bit disappointed to not see any of the alternative styles that they update their Instagram with. Most of the pieces were basics and I prefer statement pieces from resale stores, so I really didnt find anything that would work in my wardrobe. Im gonna definitely give them another look in a few weeks, as I feel like I came in at a poor time of season or possibly the wrong time of day.
Fast customer service! I ordered online and they had it sent out the next day. The person on ig was very kind as well, not to mention their prices r amazing! would and have recommend to a friend :)
They have a very good selection of clothes, but I am very disappointed in the quality of jewelry. I bought a necklace from Rumors on 10/3/21 then it broke exactly 5 days later. I was not being rough or anything. I was just taking it off my neck and it broke.
I ordered a vintage gold dress which turned out to be lovely. I also got a magnetic gold choker And the body contour earrings in gold. Rumors never disappoints me! I already have another cart with items I plan on getting. Keep up the good work!!
Huge clothing selection thats a treat to browse even if you dont buy anything. Not always quite to my taste, but always interesting and worth a look. The staff are very VCUArts and wont even attempt to talk to you while you browse, but I think Id be disappointed if it was any other way. Cashiers are always very friendly to me while Im selling and buying anyways.
Found unique clothing, even though it was in a confined space. Will go shop there again
Selection can be decent, prices are rather high considering the fact.
Maybe about two or three weeks ago I dropped some items off to be sold, they took maybe one or two things and I DONATED the rest. The person who handled my donations explained that they would be picked up by a local charity and I wouldn’t have to worry about lugging my bag 20 mins away to a Goodwill. Lo and behold, walking in the store later I see my DONATED (not sold!) items on the floor made into a crop top and another bleached and being sold for the lovely price point of $18. Meanwhile they priced my items for $6 and $10 NONE of which included the tops being sold from my bag on the sales floor. If I knew my DONATED items would be good enough to sell, why not just pay me when I tried to sell them in the first place? Horrible.
I love the vintage clothing some of it a bit expensive overall its a nice place for shopping
Great finds and nice employees! Never had an issue here I’ve been shopping here for years
I love this place, everytime i go the employees are so nice, all the clothes are fun and stylish, and selling to them is super easy!
Very disappointed with how this place is handling covid guidelines. I came in with my friend and we saw stuff they sold the day before already being sold. And there was lots of over crowding despite the 5 person limit they have out front. Be safe if you choose to buy from here because this place does not care about their customers’ health.
Overrated, overpriced, and not lit very well. Crowded racks and skinny aisles. You might have some luck finding something in your style, size, and taste if youre average in height, weight, and proportions, but at least they do have fitting rooms. Staff were polite enough, but werent friendly. Staff does not agree with each other as to what days/times the shop buys clothes from people or when they offer cash or store credit as opposed to only offering store credit, so Id recommend you call ahead and get the name of the person answering your questions.Edited to add: two different staff members on two separate previous visits advised me to call ahead when attempting to sell, which is why I included that advice in my review. I very much do understand the difference between donation-based thrift stores, resale shops, and consignment stores. That prices here are some of the highest in Richmond doesnt become less true just because Im being accused of comparing apples and oranges. The music here is played loudly enough that people feel the need to shout to be heard over it. The shop needs better, brighter lighting very badly. I felt very rushed when I was hovered over while filling out paperwork, rushed when my name was screamed out from the far end of the store (when I had said that I would be back up to the counter to make a purchase and asked them to wait to inform me if they wanted to buy anything from me until then), and rushed through check out.Oh, and one more thing--if staff members are confused about what pronouns to use for their customers, the polite way to handle that is to ASK instead of guessing and getting it wrong.
First of all I want to say Ive bought a ton of pieces from here and Ive loved all of them. They have a ton of really unique pieces and also a lot of stuff thats very on trend. The prices are also really good. The reason I gave it 3 stars is because the shopping experience here is not the best. The employees really dont seem to care and the 3 dressing rooms they have are really sketchy.
Donated in June and was a little late patronizing, little higher prices than we thought. We appreciated the safety measures.
Ive heard about this thrift store for years. Today was my first time inside. I walked in and there was 3 ladies behind the counter. Finally I just asked a question about the sunglasses to get some assistance. A lady with brown shoulder length hair was reluctant to acknowledge me, she was rude and cold for absolutely no reason. Her demeanor was not welcoming at all. I didnt take it personal of course. I wanted earrings not special treatment. Instead I was treated like an annoyance instead of a paying customer. I wont be returning and I would never reccomend the store. I understand people have a bad day.. maybe she needs a vacation.😁
Good selection, its like going to a thrift store and all the good stuff is already picked out for you! Employees dont seem the friendliest but 4 stars overall. Will return.
Every time I come here, the staff become more rude and the quality of clothing gets worse and worse. Honestly, why spend money on second hand and sometimes tattered clothing at Rumors when you can literally go to the mall and get brand new clothes for the same price? Or if you love thrifting, the Fan and Carytown have some thrift shops with nice, good quality, and cheaper clothes. I love supporting small businesses, but this one isn’t it.Edit: In addition, the staff seemed like they were having a lot of fun laughing and joking with each other. There was also maybe 3 other people in the store. I say this because they did not appear to be under great stress or “multi-tasking,” therefore, they are rude to customers because they want to. There is only one girl who works the cash register who is consistently nice. I supported this business for 4 years, but not anymore. The quality of clothing is bad. Most of the staff don’t like being there. It is what it is.
Super cute clothing. You can also exchange things that you have for store credit and get a new wardrobe that way! Love this place
The store had a lot of nice clothes to look through but the staff were rude and disinterested in helping. The man working at the counter shooed me out of the way so he could help his friend check out first when I was already in line. Classic.
Gave this place another shot after i had a bad experience and i’m glad i did. their selection had improved a lot, their sizes were more inclusive, and the staff were friendly. the cool music was the cherry on top.
Came in with a bag full and waited 40 minutes just to get 2.50. I had shirts, mini skirts, shorts sweaters etc all clean and great condition. Would’ve made more if I sold it online, I regret coming here and wasting my time. Don’t sell unless your stuff matches their hipster aesthetic.
This store is a blessing to my wardrobe! If youre into affordable clothes that support local artists and the rights of humanity shop here!! Plus the people that linger around this place are rad. THANK YOU FOR BEING YOU-NIQUE!
They used to have some really nice clothing but its gone downhill
DO NOT GO HERE THEY UPCHARGE WAY TOO MUCH, FOR GOODWILL QUALITY! ITS ROBBERY !
Great local place to thrift. Staff is great. Always leave there with something cool.
One of the best thrifts in rva!
Ive only shopped here once, but I loved it! I found two great items that fit me well and I cant wait to go back. The clothes there are a little pricey, but its worth it.
Rumors is hands down my favorite thrift store. Ive heard a lot of complaints that theyre overpriced, but rumors is much better than a normal thrift store in which you can find cheaper deals in my opinion, because nearly everything in the store is great. I certainly dont have enough patience to shop much in goodwill or salvation army where you have to look hard for great finds, so Rumors is perfect for me, because its a thrift store filled with the best of the best thrift finds.
Absolutely love this place, I visit every time Im in Richmond. They have a great selection of clothes, awesome environment, and friendly staff!
Today I walked into the store with my room mate to browse around. There was a person behind the front counter with blonde hair who was staring at us and following us to the point where we were very upset and had to leave. I felt she was watching us as if we were stealing and we were just looking around. I told some of my friends and they were also made uncomfortable by her watching them and whispering. Will not be coming back if this is common here.
I came here with my two sisters today, and wanted to buy the whole store. Very hipster and unique. Defiantly has a wide selection of cute clothes.
Very nice atmosphere! Love the vibes here plus there is something for literally everyone here! If youre in Richmond definitely come and check out what Rumors has to offer.
Very college type clothing. If you are into actually thrifting for your life, not just your party clothes, avoid this shop. There was a heavy I dare you to wear that out. vibe to this store.Fine if thats the kind of life you have chosen to lead, but if youre the prudish type of hipster like me, youre going to be disappointed.
Rumors used to be a great place to shop. Recently though they do not carry any clothing that is remotely wearable. All you get now is hideous shirts and sweaters from the 1970s, absurdly ironic t-shirts and denim jackets for the bike kids. I guess that is what is trendy as the owner puts it. I dont know if I have been at bad times but I havent, for the life of me, been able to find a decent pair of jeans or khakis and a button down shirt in the past year. I dont know how business has been since they moved but both my girlfriend and I left empty-handed as many other customers appeared to do.
Cool and eclectic. Found a leather skirt and beaded top for $29!!!
I haven’t been here in four years and decided to sell a few items. First I had the guy look me up down like I shouldn’t in there. Then one of his questions were “Are these your clothes? like that threw me off. I hope he ask everybody that question. So I waited and looked around some of the clothes have a lot of stains and spots. But for them to ask “Are these clothes clean?” is a joke because they have jeans, dresses and shirts with holes or stains and they are trying to sell them.
They took almost everything I was selling and barely gave me anything for it, and I had everything they said they were looking for and then some. Some of the workers are stingier than others. Dont sell it any girl with black hair Is working or when any guy is working because all the guys low ball you.
Okay, Ive been going here for 6 years, ever since moving to Richmond as a college student, and I can STILL find awesome stuff here. When I first started going there, it was definitely a *sort through items for an hour and find gem or two* sort of fun place, but if you havent been there lately things are now arranged by size, type, and style.Im going to gush a little because I always find things I can wear casually, nicer pants or tops to wear to work, or cute vintage dressed to wear to nicer events. Its been a place I can always trust to trade in my clothes and find one-of-a-kind pieces. Ive gotten countless weird and vintage tees there for about $6, including my an old Hollywood Cemetery tee, and I can get Madewell or American Apparel jeans there for $20-30 in nearly new condition. Every season I trade in seasonal items I cant wear anymore and use the store credit for new items.Plus, Casey and Marshe are amazing people and have worked so hard to make this place amazing. I see myself going here 5 years from now, knowing my style will drastically change.
Great little (well, not so little) store. They fill the racks with items youd actually want to wear (without having to spend days looking through racks like you would at a goodwill), and they actually buy clothes FROM their customers, so they help people out with new clothes and money, too.
My sisters and I came here today on our trip from VB. I loved this place more than any where we live. Love the clothes!
Stopped here when I was in town, found a few nice pieces.
Good selection, always can find a hidden gem or two
Super super epic but freshman take all the good stuff
People are nice maybe sell mountain dew and video game
Eh kinda pricey for second hand and ripped clothes. At least for mens
Dont be fooled. This place is not a thrift store. $12 for a t shirt
Always a good place to snag something unique for your closet; they dont take just any thrift clothing, they seem to have a high bar for unique, really cool fashion.
Kinda expensive for a second hand store, but if you look you can find some really cute stuff for cheap!
This store has such a friendly staff and some cute items, but their plus size options are very limited.
This place is great, communication is fast and j think theyve got a good thing going with social media, I love their style
This store has amazing stuff at fair prices. I love going here and finding unique things that I wouldnt find anywhere else. The reason Im giving it 3 stars is for only one bad situation. So my first time going in there, I find a small clear bookbag that has no pricetag on it. I go up to registers and ask how much the bookbag is and the guy looks at it and says $22. At first I think thats a little high but I just assume that their pricing is different than other consignment stores. I also work at Platos Closet and when a customer comes up with an item that has no tag, we look it up on our computers and give them the price that shows up. Anyway, I bought the bookbag with other things knowing that it was final sale, which is fine and makes sense. Around a week later, I come back looking for other stuff when I spot a bookbag that looks exactly like the one I bought recently, the only difference being that the trim was black and the one I bought was pink. Just to reiterate, they were exactly the same condition, same size, no holes or stains. When I look at the tag it says $12!!!!!!! At this point Im really confused and frustrated knowing that I cant return the bag I bought because its final sale. So I explain this to one of the workers and she didnt have much to say which is fine. I asked why would one be $12 and the other be $22 and she said because different people price things differently which makes sense but when they are in exactly the same condition and style, there shouldnt be a $10 difference. I guess if you find something there with no tag, ask more than one employee for the price or just make sure that the price makes sense with everything else in the store similar to that item.
Awesome selection and the staff has been friendly. No experience with selling, but shopping is always a good time here!
I Cant wait to get to Richmond just to stop there after visiting my daughter at college of course LOL
Found great items and got free reusable tote bag!
I’m very disappointed with the way they regulate their online purchases they pick and choose when they want to sell someone an item through emails. I was litterally waiting at the door for the store to OPEN for the fenty creepers AND sent an email to them the night before but they sold them to someone before there open business hours.i did get an email noticifation staying that I hadn’t screen shotted the the picture BUT I did detail the subject field on the email. The woman’s excuse was “they sent there payment information” like initially you have send us an email back with details on how to pay...and when I was headed out the store a guy was asking about the availability of a jacket and the woman then stated “yes it’s still available I’ll get it for you because their are like 3 people waiting for payment info” last time shopping with them.
Love Love Love!!! Best Thrift Boutique in town!
They give hella great deals on designer & vintage clothing, its basically my one-stop shop for everything clothing, shoes, & accessories!
Dope. The band tees usually hold some gold.
Never got my size but I luv it
Seconds at top price not the best boutique in town
Its got a cool selection of weird and interesting clothing but a lot of items are overpriced.
Best shrift shop in rva!! Always find good steals
I like the store. They have good stuff.
Wonderful selection, super friendly staff!
Although I live across the country now, I still go in whenever Im in town. Rumors fo life.
Has really great prices and an eclectic mix of inventory
I love the clothes but I feel like its over priced for used clothes.
Only 3 dressing rooms, workers kind of uninterested in what youre doing
Great place to find unique items
Great music and great selections 😀
Nothing exciting.....had to wait 15 minutes for a fitting room. Never going there again
Terrible service, they were very RACIST !
Smelled old and moldy
Very cool finds
Fav store
Love them
