Bad Customer Service and a Bad attitude. I simply asked for an explanation of the charges and he told me that the “ price is the price, take it or leave it”. He didn’t think I deserved an explanation OR a friendly demeanor. I probably would have done the service he suggested if he wasn’t such a curmudgeon. I took my business elsewhere
If I could give 0 stars I would. The mechanic at this shop is extremely unprofessional and deserves to be fired. After taking our lawn mower to this place for years for repairs, during a recent visit the mechanic at the shop had the audacity to berate my dad right there in the shop over a simple question about a previous carburetor cleaning. He turned irate, called my dad a son of a b**** and used multiple expletives for a very simple situation. Ive never seen such disrespect towards a patron over nothing. If youre looking for a place that will treat you with professionalism and respect this is NOT the place to go. We will never be back.
My lawnmower and my chainsaw both broke down around the same time, and I was referred to this shop by a neighbor who has been going there for years. I really dont understand any of these negative reviews, because I had a great experience. I called ahead to ask if I could bring my stuff by to drop off. When I arrived, their prices and policies were all clearly listed behind the counter. They were helping another customer at the time but were very polite and greeted me when I came in. The gentlemen who helped me through the process were both very professional and helpful.I paid the drop-off fee for both items. That fee is basically a place-holder, so they can have some money coming in while they work on your stuff! That amount that you pay on the day of the drop-off is applied to the total that you owe upon pickup. (Once again, this was clearly posted at the counter...) It makes sense, especially for a small business. And honestly, living on a paycheck to paycheck income, I liked being able to pay part of the fees up front, and the rest a few weeks later at pickup. They took great care of my lawnmower and chainsaw and got them both back to be in about 1.5 weeks. I barely recognized my lawn mower when I got it back because it was so clean and shiny. Works like new. I really appreciated their help and I will definitely be back the next time I have trouble with a small engine.
Friendly staff, quick turnaround on tune up. 3 stars bevy I feel like the price is high and when I got the lawnmower back the first pass showed the blades are not even. Disappointing consider the cost.
Quick turnaround time, solid repair, helpful staff
Today we took our power washer in to be fixed. He came outside to meet us at the vehicle. He checked the oil and the spark plug. Turns out it was the air filter needing to be cleaned or replaced. Now it works great. I plan on returning next time I need a small engine fixed.
I highly recommend them. Have used them for years. Brought in various pieces of lawn equipment with varying degrees of condition. Most got repaired..some were beyond repair in terms either of cost effective or discontinued parts. Never had any problem with the service.Always upfront if the equipment is going to cost more than its worth or specifically the cost of repair is going to be half to three quarter of the cost of a new one. Which is understandable, considering some product out there is disposable. Great out the box until you have to get it repaired and found out how much the parts for it is..not including the labor. The turnaround is still quicker that the other shops by at least a week from speaking over the phone. The price is competitive too. They recommended on further repairs to be done because of finding other parts on my riding mower that are wearing out and might cause a unnecessary issue later.I will keep using them and pass the word along to others and not just friends and family.
Horrible customer service! I called to make an inquiry about a weed wacker that I dropped off coupled with a concern about pricing. I was greeted by Jonathan screaming at me because he didn’t understand why I was calling. When asked why he was yelling at my questioning something he said, I was asked to come pick up my device. Came into the store and when I inquired about the owner I was told he was out of the country. I asked for a card and was told he didn’t have one. Customer service was terrible!! I cannot stress this enough. DO NOT BRING YOUR BUSINESS HERE!!!!
Ways get good service from WSE - and they will pick up and deliver too!
Ive always had a positive experience with West End. Stopped for a few years only because I started working with a well known mobile service. Was quite dissatisfied with the mobile service when they could not or would not come back to fix my generator that I had paid them good money to fix. Took the generator and two mowers to West End last week and they got them running like a top. Also, the turn around time was way quicker than they told me. Very happy.
I had SUCH a good experience. Not only is this shop open a little earlier than the others, closes a little later than the others, but this guys customer service is great. All of my questions were answered and came to look at my mower as soon as I pulled up. He was great. Highly recommend!
I had a great experience at West Side Engines. The service was pleasant and they were able to fix my mower quickly. I would definitely recommend them!
Quick turn around time.
I go to get my lawn mower serviced and blade sharpened twice a year here. They have great customer service from the phone call to the counter and the loading of the car process. I wouldn’t go anywhere else to get my lawn mower fixed.
I own a lawn care service in Richmond and most of our equipment is bought from Smith Turf and Irrigation and Rental Works. When something breaks, I rely on them to fix it (or seredni tire for our vehicles) and they are extremely reliable and provide a quality and respectful customer service experience. We have a Craftsman chain saw that was bought from Lowes and it stopped working a few weeks ago. I only have one chain saw because we do limited tree work. My guys brought it to West Side Engines because it was nearby where it broke. If I was in town or able to coordinate, I would have avoided this place due to the negative reviews, but unfortunately we got stuck with them. After ten days in the shop (two days ago), my manager called West Side and asked when it would be fixed. We have a job this coming Tuesday where we will need the chainsaw and he was expecting it to be done before then and we were hoping to get an answer on an estimated time it would be repaired or at least looked at. He was told by someone at West Side that it would be done in a few days and could not get any more details. I called after that and spoke to someone who said they were the owner. I asked him if he could give me a time that it would be fixed. The following is what was communicated to me after I asked him multiple times when it would be fixed:-He told me I was wasting his time by calling after my manager already called.-He told me it will be done in a few days and no more details are necessary. He asked me if I tell my customers when we will finish our work. (I replied of course we do).-When I asked again when it would be done, he told me again I was wasting his time.-And he also said that he can not tell me when he will look at it because that is not reasonable and it is all within two to three weeks which is what he tells everyone.-The entire time he acted like I was annoying him and was clearly agitated by my simple, reasonable questions.I was shocked at this terrible customer service and I called and left a voicemail after to tell him that my guys would pick it up the next day (yesterday) and for him to not touch it. This was after I saw the terrible reviews on here, which were in line with my experience.I have not experienced this bad of customer service with any equipment or repair shop in Richmond. When I called to give him the owner a heads up on the review I would be giving him, he told me that he refunded my deposit so there should be no issue and to think about giving him a review because he would be returning the favor. He had already looked up my business that has relatively few reviews and said it would be damaging to me.
I called West Side Engines and talked to Jim. We scheduled pick up date for the two lawnmowers between 10 am -1200 pm. I paid $140.00 . We waited and he picked up the mowers passed 12:00 noon. After over a week later, he called us to drop off the mowers. We were out of town attending a funeral of a dear friend. I called him to reschedule the drop off since we are not home. A rescheduled date was set up. Mowers were not drop off. There was no call from Jim either. I called him and responded that he got busy. So,we reschedule again on the next day between 10 am-12 noon. We waited. I called him for follow-up . I told him, if you are planning to be late, please call your customer. We have other scheduled plans for the day.Lawn mowers were delivered at 6:00 pm. Today, will be the first time to try the lawn mower after Florence. My husband tried to start the mower but failed. I called Jimand was not very pleasant over the phone. Lacking customer service.Prior to repairing lawn mowers, West Side Engines will require you to pay the estimated price in full amount.Otherwise, they will not start the repair process.
Brought my mower in for repair and had a great experience. Mower has never run better and repair cost was reasonable. Will be back
West Side Engines was able to diagnose and repair my lawn mower for a very low price, within a minimal time frame, after several other individuals and businesses were not able to. I cant describe the relief after 2 years of break downs and having to pay other people to do my lawn, spending money I would have preferred not to have wasted in this way.I am sold on West Side Engines!!!
I had a very positive experience with West End Small Engine. My Honda push mower and been leaking oil and running poorly. Brought it in and they were able to fix it within 24 hours. The price was very reasonable and fair. The staff was friendly and curious and even informed me of some ways to care for the mower better. I would highly recommend them to anyone I know.
They fixed my year old power washer quickly for a reasonable price. They where professional & polite in every way. Wonderful service. Well done! You will get more work from me.
The only thing worse then the repairs is the costumer service! Would have given it 0 stars if I could the person I talked to was extremely rude and hostile. Brought my mower in to get wabroken wheel fixed and look at a governed probl they had fixed previously . He told me my mower was trash didn’t fix it and didn’t even replace the wheel and still charged my $45 Will never return to such a ride place
Highly recommend West Small Engine Repair based on my experience getting a pressure washer repaired recently. I was unable to even start the unit, after it sat for a year. They tuned it up & it runs like a charm. Prices were fair, they called me to let me know it was ready to be picked-up, & it was ready sooner than expected (took about two weeks). Ill certainly be back when I need more small engine repair work.
Have used Westside to repair lawnmower and know a weed eater. Very kind, friendly, and professional. I would recommend them to anyone.
I have used West End Small Engine and been very pleased with their work. They have been great neighbors here on Patterson. Yesterday Mr ONeal from West End Small Engine brought a stray dog they found in to try and reunite him with his owner. Luckily there was a microchip and we contracted the owner who came right over. It is nice to have caring people in a local business.
I have had a very positive experience with West Small Engines. I brought in a lawnmower, a power washer and a weed eater. All were fixed for a great price. I highly recommend that anyone with small engine problems to come here and get things sorted out. Your machine will be fixed and at a great price.
Ive been taking my contract fleet of equipment to them for over 5 years and every single time its been done exactly right, no matter what the equipment of the problem. They recently replaced a hydraulic drive pump on my zero turn, serviced it as well and repaired a blower in less than a week. Courteous, timely and professional. Couldnt ask for better.
They get one star because I cant give them 0. Took my Mantis tiller in because it would start, but not stay on. Had to leave a $50.00 diagnostic fee. Took longer than I was told but finally get a call that it is done. Was charged another $35 for cleaning air filter, flushing gas, new spark plug (which I had already put in and TOLD them when I dropped it off). Got it home and it started once, then stopped and wouldnt even start again. The same gas was in it, so my opinion is this was never even touched. Called immediately, left message and as of 4:15 pm no one has called me back and no one is answering the phone. I have no idea how this company can get a good review. Not only do I have no tiller, but now have to pursue BBB complaint and legal action to get my money back. You want to use this company...good luck
Drop off my push mower that was not starting. They charge $95 to fix. Upon return, mower started. When I added gas to it, it was leaking everywhere. Gasoline was coming out of air intake, the bottom of the mower, and sides. It did not have this problem until after the repairs. They had known of the leaks and took my payment. Please do yourself a favor look up a certified dealer and use a competent business.
Joseph has worked on my mowers, lawn vac, leaf blower, weed wacker and more for years. His work is excellent and his prices are very fair. Hes an old school gentleman who works long and hard to the benefit of his customers. I dont think Ive ever met someone who I would recommend more highly.
I found them on Angies List, they were rated A+ across the board so I had high hopes. I took my Yamaha ATV and my Honda generator there, neither would start. They were both finished within the week, at a reasonable cost, and now they run like new. Good stuff!
Probably the worst customer service of any I’ve ever encountered.
Needed a part and my fathers speech is limited because of a stroke. Joseph was very attentive and knew exactly what my father needed.. 2 thumbs up
Stopped in for a part for my Honda mower. First they tried to sell me a part for $60 that retails for $25 online. I understand trying to make a profit for convenience but 2x the price? Then when i start checking out the part it isnt even the right item. Was told they didnt have the right part -- for a Honda! Seriously, this should be a common item.
I had a flat front tire on my tractor. Thought I was clever and bought a new tire on amazon. I was not able to get it on the rim no matter how hard I tried. He put it on the rim, tested for leaks and found it was the valve stem that was bed. Replaced the stem and had it back to me in no time.Highly recommend this guy. Local owned.
Fast and courteous service. My yard equipment has been fixed right the first time every time.
Today is 6/09/2017. It has been two weeks since I dropped of my pressure washer (Husky with Kohler engine). I called yesterday and I was told it has not been looked at yet. My bad, I did not ask when to expect the repair to be completed. I see the owner spends a good deal of time replying to reviews. This is not a complaint, more of a request to see when there may be a date of completion. The star rating is not pertinent since I am still a work in progress.I have quite a bit or work to do and am getting behind as I need to pressure wash to complete my tasks. I read where you get 30 customers a day and have one technician. The obvious would be to hire another tech but then (only a guess) there isnt a large pool of good technicians to tap into? I wish you luck as I like to see all businesses prosper and hope to see my pressure washer soon. Best regards, GregUpdate: I had a very nice conversation with the new owner. He seems like a solid guy that wants to offer good customer experiences. He realizes that there are times where a repair may not have taken and asks that whenever a customer encounters a problem to please come back to him and he will try and make it right. I think that is a reasonable request. The fact that they are so busy and understaffed I would say go in eyes wide open and expect a 2 week turnaround.Update: I did receive my pressure washer at 2 weeks and it is running well. I have upgraded my rating accordingly.
Been a customer for many years, the guy they have working the front counter(from CT) is a very unprofessional. Ill never go back!
If you want something almost fixed, this is your place! I brought my trimmer in and now it starts easier, but still releases the whole spool of string when it starts...Update! This honest review prompted a harassing voicemail from the owner accusing me of taking food from his children. I then got a much better garage to replace the head that West Side couldnt be bothered with only to find that my trimmer will not idle...West Side Engines is a complete waste of money and if the owner is reading this, your number is blocked.Update #2:So, my original review labeled the people behind west side engines as crooks, the owner took offence to that, so I made a minor edit after a very unpleasant voicemail. Now, however, I fully endorse labeling the people of West Side Engines as crooks. Not only did they not fully fix my trimmer, but it will not idle and it shuts down immediately upon contact with what it needs to trim. There is more value to be gained from trashing your lawn equipment than taking it to this sorry excuse for a repair shop.
I have used West Side for various lawn equipment repairs. They have fixed my weed eater and lawn mower and I have had no issues with the repairs. They even call now when the repair has been completed which is not something they did in the past. I would definitely recommend them for repairs and will go back to them in the future.
Brought a power washer in to get fixed and they fixed the engine and told me it was fixed. They never told me the pump was bad. When I got to the job site the power washer was useless. The owner, who called to say it was fixed and took my money when I got there, basically said, you didnt read my note on the receipt?? as if was my fault. It would have been so much better if he had told me about the pump and not said the washer was fixed. Im very unsatisfied and would not go back.
Awful!! The employee promised to fix a second hand mower so I could buy it for stated price and then owner refused to comply with the deal. In fact, the owner was right down rude and uncaring. Stay away.
Great service nice help fast repairs will consider for any of my repairs
I dropped my lawnmower off, and asked for them to give me a price on repair of deck, as it was older and I didnt want to spend a lot of money on it. They assured me that I would be charged $45.00, and then given a estimate for repair before proceeding. After days of no return call, I called them. They are now demanding $175.00 to get my lawnmower back, and repairs have not been made. The Manager of the store told me that I was going to have to sue him to get my lawnmower back if I dont pay the $175.00. BEWARE!
Decided to take my hydraulic Kubota to them after seeing their reviews on Angies List...What can I say, fast turn around, fair and extremely knowledgeable. Got to talking with Joseph, the owner, and it turns he used to be a ship engineer when he was younger. I guess that explains his thorough knowledge. Great stuff, they got my business.
Called to ask if they sold an oil filter. I was rudely told they dont sell any parts at all, then hung up on. Shame, really, as I live only a mile or so and had other equipment I wanted to bring in for repair. Didnt even give me the chance.
They worked on my Suzuki ATV as well as my John Deere tractor, both work great now. The price was fair and the owner was very knowledgeable.
Nice guy resharpen my mower blades and its like a new.
Rude customer service, told me they didnt stock parts but didnt even take the time to make a suggestion sales person just hung up on me... this place will never get my business
I brought my lawnmower and leaf blower in and they fixed both for a good price.
*******Update*******Im Eugene Portnoy, the pleasure is all mine, and thank you for knowing that. My English is poor, so I apologize for having make little sense. I will learn better before reviewing next time. Sorry to intercept your day! Your quick response is appreciated and understood by me to be fair and well balanced upon hearing. Feelings agree!I forgot what I used them for, but I do seem to recall it was okay. Im a landscaper, actor, and fire toucher, so I stay busy doing lots of stuff with things. I do wish that they would call when finished with your machine, or maybe just to say hi. The younger one is a cutie patootie, but the dad sometimes comes across as devilish/gentle. Make this a great days friends, and may all of your small engines be west.
Great service and price is reasonable compare to other shops in the region.
Took a pressure washer in for a tune up and oil change. The repairs were great. However, I was a little disappointed the machine came back pretty dirty. Repairs took about two weeks.
They Charged me $175 and essentially did nothing for my lawn mower except shine it up. The drive wheels were still broken. They never even called me. I called weekly for 3 weeks and finally they went out and looked for it in the yard.Horrible small engine work. Horrible customer service.
Not the best service but my small chain saw is fixed. They certainly wont be proactive on letting you know your items are ready - I waited 3 weeks (initial estimate for completion was 1 week) and then called. Over the phone, the owner, who seems to be a pretty friendly guy, initially told me that the chain saw wasnt ready yet. I pushed him a little bit and told him it had been three weeks and then he actually checked on it and said, Oh yeah thats done. Come and get it. They definitely dont have a proactive approach to customer service. Youll have to stay on them to make sure you get everything you need.Regarding pricing - I paid $25 or $30 upfront and then another 25 when I picked it up yesterday. I asked him what exactly the extra $25 was for and he told me they flushed the fuel lines, replaced the spark plug, cleaned up the carburetor, etc. He said that total price included parts and labor. I took him at his word but would have felt a lot more confident that he wasnt just making it up if he actually had some sort of work ticket detailing the costs/work performed. I wanted my machine back so I paid him. Seems like others ran into this situation as well.I called several shops and no one wanted to work on my cheap little chain saw but I needed it fixed so 50 or so bucks isnt the end of the world. He did say that he wouldnt charge over 60 or 70 bucks total because the chain saw isnt really even worth that - thought that was nice but he also bought himself 60 or 70 bucks of business by saying that - regardless of the actual cost it took him to fix the thing.Just be careful bringing larger, more expensive equipment here - the ransom may be higher in those cases. I dont think the pricing is exact in any way leaving room for some dishonesty. There are enough bad reviews on here depicting the same type of pricing scheme that asking for a written quote or ticket before dropping off your equipment would be a good move. Also, regarding Angies List - my brother in law works there - they sell ad packages and are somewhat in bed with the businesses that are listed there. Obviously this isnt always true but its not always the best place to go for unbiased reviews. Googles review is probably a good place to look.
The owner has always been very attentive and provided good service at at a fair price. I have done three repairs
The father and son team that operate this business are unethical and dishonorable businesspeople. They will routinely over-charge for maintenance and then never actually fix anything. They never provide a written estimate, do not return phone calls and if you bring back a piece of equipment because the problem that you originally brought it in for wasnt fixed, Joseph will yell at you and tell you to leave and never come back. There are other small engine repair shops around and you should avoid doing business with these people.
Took a lawnmower that wouldnt start in for an estimate. Without even checking to see what was wrong I was quoted a price of $150. How is that possible? Wont be going back.
I took my tractor for service, they did great job,I recommend this shop and the friendly staff. Thank you .
Rude. Gave us the wrong lawn mower the first time. Said it was fixed, but it broke after one cut.
Theyve always done a great job fixing my equipment quickly and at a great price.
Brought my WW to them on June 24th they charged me $30 to look at it. ... not a bad starting price. Here is where it goes bad.15 days go by and I have not received a call.I dropped by during the work day to see why.The girl at the front desk checks the back. She comes back and says its actually done and ready. Wow I thought, what are the chances! Not. She says shes going to get it in a minute. At that time I see the mechanic grab some gas and run or back (he made guilty eye contact with me) my thought was they didnt look at it at all and they are going to put premix hi test gas in it and hope for the best. I immediately ran outside to listen for them pulling the cord on my broken weed Wacker ( wont start, thats why its there)Well I hear them yanking the cord over and over and over. Hahaha I go back I side. The girl comes back in and says its actually not ready and doesnt know why they told her it was. She would call me when its ready. It gets worst. 2 weeks later they call me to tell me my $200 weed Wacker needs $180 worth of repairs.Dont go here. They dropped the ball big time. I dont care if its a hedge trimmer or a tractor they need to be a lot better to earn my money. Will never return and I will continue to tell people about there horrible service.
I have had several issues with this company over the approx. 3 years I used them. Mostly no one showing up when they were expected and being offered excuse such as, Sorry I forget, I am busy this time of yearThe last straw was when I sent my mowers in to get a tune up and the blades sharpened. They lost one of my mowers and asked me if I was sure I brought it in. After about 30 minutes it was located mislabled. I bring the mowers home and one starts bleching blue smoke and the other push mower will turn over then swiftly dies. I call the owner and he and his son stop by and tell me the mower that is bleching smoke is fine it just needs to burn off some oil that is on the muffler. The mower that wont start turned out to have some trash in the carborator and they said it can happen sometimes and it cant be helped but they would fix it.Several days later they bring back it back and it runs now but it takes about 10 mins of slowly starting up and almost die for it to get up to speed. I called to ask the owner to come fix the issues and he said after two weeks they dont stand behind their work. He also said it was likely something I was doing to the mowers that was causing both isses. For $30 bucks or $65, or $85 he was all over the place with the pick up fee, he would come get it and fix it but he had to charge me as he, Had a life and we already fixed it once for you, no chargeI cant speak to how this man is on a personal level but he is not honest and not willing to make the customer happy. I only used this service as it was the only one within a reasonable distance but I have spent more for him to fix problems with my mowers than they are worth.
Been going to Mr. Azari since 2009. Very courteous, professional, knowledgeable and most of all, honest.
Great service, great people! Highly recommend!
Ive had nothing but good experiences with taking my lawnmower here. The most recent time, it turned out the problem was really minor. It was fixed on the spot and when I asked how much I was told no charge.
Dropped off my 5 yr old craftsman. Had to leave 50-55 diagnostic fee (can’t remember). Guy at the counter was short and acted perturbed I was even in the shop. Never got a call, as I requested, to find out what needed to be fixed and price. Showed back upon two weeks later upon call, and owed another 135. So 180 in on a 350 dollar mower-should have left it there because it hasn’t worked any better since I brought home. Oh yeah, and no one offered to help me load it in my car, despite the wrist brace I had on. West Small Engines!
Mr. Azari always takes care of me and my equipment, and stands behind his work. I have been dealing with him for years now on repairs and equipment rental.
I went once and will not go again. Very poor work ethic and not honest.
Fast and effective repair service when a chain broke on an aerator. Jim got it going again within just a few hours.
Came here thinking I needed a new string for my lawnmower an all I needed was a handle an they replaced it for free
The lady answering was really not very helpful or friendly, but did refer me to Pleasants Hardware for the part I needed.
Been waiting a week for them to order a part still has not done. Been told they would call me back and they dont. Still waiting frustrating
