Delivered a load of kayaks here. Was a day early and had already booked another load. They was very accommodating and with my help unloaded the truck. After we were done I had some time to kill and wanted to take one out. So I ask if it was ok to leave my truck and take one out. They said yes. Paddling up the creek was awesome. Beautiful, well preserved wetland habitat. Many birds to see. Wonderful experience. I recommend 100%.
AMAZING! I am so glad that my family went her for our first kayaking adventure. The staff was so friendly and welcoming, they went above and beyond to help my youngest child who became very anxious about falling into the water. This was our first time and we loved every second. They provided us with life vests, tandem kayaks, and paddles. We explored the secret wilderness for over one hour and our family had a very special time. It really did feel like we paddled into a hidden world, despite being on the busy Empire Blvd. It was quiet and peaceful, we say many herons and swan families, also ducks and turtles. We are so grateful to the staff for being so patient and supportive. They even congratulated our youngest upon her return. I can not recommend BayCreek Paddling Center enough!
My husband and I live nearby and this is our go-to place when we want to go kayaking. We have our own inflatable kayak that we throw into the Bay once in a while as well, but BayCreek makes everything easy. We’ve rented the 1- and 2-person kayaks and friends have rented paddle boards. Love paddling around the Bay and exploring the waterways.
I took a beginners kayaking class recently and the the whole experience was great. The class is kept small, which is helpful when just learning. The staff were very friendly and Dan the instructor was very informative and answered any/all of the questions we had. You also get a summary sheet at the end of class, in case you cant remember all of what was discussed. I definitely will go back for more classes and kayak rentals.
Highly recommend the lesson on kayaking basics! Best 2.5 hours of my week. Covered everything from boat features to proper paddling technique. Definitely worth it, very fun and satisfying.
Loved it! Great time and helpful staff. Rented a one person kayak with my 4 year old son on a Sunday for an hour and had the best time. Prices are fair. The only issues are the parking and the long waiting times in order to rent a canoe/kayak. Dont come here on a busy day unless you dont mind navigating and potentially waiting in order to find a spot for your car.
Even though I am not athletic (and someone a little afraid of falling), I found that SUP yoga was a very successful experience. With the instructors (Lynn) great guidance I was able to do all of the yoga poses without falling! I learned so many tips to keep my balance and was able to enjoy the beauty and serenity of nature while getting a great yoga workout!
Excellent place to rent a kayak. Their location is ideal. Had a great time. The staff was great. They help you get in and out and are very quick and efficient. Love it!!
I did the basic kayak lesson there. It was a great experience..The instructor was very informative, helpful and patient. I definitely want to kayak and also learn more.
Awesome rates, friendly staff, and great spot to go for a relaxing day on the water!
Wonderful. Even though they dont normally rent kayaks on Tuesday, Up Because my children and their spouses came up from Boston and Maryland the owner stayed around and rented us 2 kayaks and a canoe, did the and the clean up, even though he hadnt brought in the help that he usually has on rental days. We had a great time, thanks to some good people.
Great kayaking experience. I took my fishing rod and fished for 2 hrs. Very clean water and alot of wild around. I found a tiny turtle on the side! I paid 25 for an hour. However, if you bring your own kayak its just a launching fee of 5$. Overall, great experiance and not crazy expensive.
My daughter and I were the only ones that showed up for our group kayak time. So they gave us a choice to explore by ourselves on the house and come back in the Spring for another group kayak trip. We explored around by ourselves and had a great time. We will definitely be going back in the Spring for another try at the group kayak trip.
Good Experience Should Try. Service is also good
Always friendly and professional. Just purchased my second kayak from there.
We love coming here !! All the employees are super helpful and sweet.
We went kayaking memorial day for the first time. Had a great experience at baycreek. The registration was simple and the staff was very friendly. We had three kids. 7, 9, and 11. Started out in a canoe with the 11 and 9 year old with their mom.. after about 50 minutes.. they switched to a tandem and got the 11 year old her own canoe. MUCH smoother after this. The canoe was very difficult. The creek seemed shallow and we found ourselves stuck a lot. But overall this was a great first experience. So much so.. we went and bought kayaks afterwards haha. We attempted to go into the bay but it was extremely difficult as we were going against the wind and current and the shallow waters. Lots of wildlife to see in the creek. We ended up being out for about a total of 4 hours and we were definitely sore after. My 9 year old picked up the tandem rowing quickly after we started yelling left right together lol. Highly recommend this place! Make sure you use the bathroom before you go out and take sunscreen! Theres enough room in the kayaks for a small backpack to pack a lunch and carry necessities and nice places along the creek to stop and eat. Happy adventuring!
I went there looking for a new PFD. I received excellent advice. I tried on several different ones and were helped on the selection of the right one for me.
My husband and I took a 90-minute introductory SUP lesson and had a wonderful time. Its easy to look at people on SUPs and assume theres nothing to it, but in fact there really is! That lesson will now enable us to safely rent SUPs with some degree of confidence, and head out on our own to practice the skills we learned. I highly recommend the lesson we took and Bay Creek as the place to do it. The waterways are calm and non-threatening, our instructor was excellent, and you even get to see some very cool swans along the way.
We recently took the 2 hr Secret Kayak Tour and we couldnt be happier. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable about this sensitive area, plants, and animals. It was not a strenuous tour, so good for beginners and novice kayakers. It was a great way to start our day. Well be going back to BayCreek. Its a popular place- so be sure to plan ahead.
Have all the small boats everyone loves.
The people at Bay Creek are very friendly and Morgan she was very helpful.
Highly recommended the experience is wonderful for self or family .
I participated in SUP Yoga for the first time ever and it was amazing. I have been active in yoga for a while and have always wanted to try SUP Yoga because it looked awesome. Well it was awesome; to be surrounded by nature and in the water doing yoga is something I recommend trying. The instructor Lynne was very enthusiastic, patient, and an exceptional communicator. She really knows both SUP and Yoga and was able to cue the class with kindness and in a way that created confidence. The class was small, there was only three participants and the instructor, due to covid restrictions. So although I had to book my slot 4 weeks in advance, it was totally worth it.
Beautiful area, great rental prices!
Always love coming here to kayak!
Had a great beginner SUP lesson. Ken was an excellent instructor, and had us going in no time! Cant wait to return to explore the creek further.
Great place to burn a few hours...and calories! They have canoes,kayaks(1 or 2 person) and hourly prices are phenomenal! The waterways are awesome, huge area to explore and pretty neat scenic wise...def a good weekend adventure
Had a great time my first time out on a paddleboard with ken. i appreciated the on land instruction early on to get used to some of the strokes and then once we were in the water had a great time and even fell in a few times. its a beautiful spot. will be back.
This is one of the best places I know to learn to kayak. You start out on the slow moving water of the marsh, can paddle up stream(south) for increasing current flow. Once you are too tired to paddle more, you can just float downstream and return to the dock with nary an effort. As you crave more challenging conditions, head the other way(North) out into Irondiquoit Bay for a much windier 5 mile long bay that varies between a 1/4 mile to over a mile wide near the outlet to Lake Ontario.
This is THEE nicest place to rent from.I can say this because today I was in the water for all of 45 seconds before saying to my still land bound partner, “please get me out of this thing!!!”So while I did not journey down the serene waters that this location offers, not a single person made me feel ashamed or embarrassed. They were super kind and gave me lots of helpful tips for steering my kayak (which actually worked, I just did not enjoy the loss of firm earth from beneath me).All in all, whether you are a first timer like me, or an experienced master of the waterways, I recommend this place 💯 !!
Excellent time on the water, a little windy... Staff were friendly, organized and maintained mask discipline and social distancing for everyone. Will definitely be back!
Very nice, helpful and reasonable prices. They also have a great process for social distancing.
We had an amazing time. My children and I have never been kayaking before and this was our first time ever. They were very nice and explained everything we needed to know and did not laugh at us when we had issues getting in and out of the kayak (mostly me!) thank you for that! We would definitely go back. We all had a great time!
I love BayCreek! The owner and staff treat you like a friend of the family. They are eager to share their enthusiasm for the sport and, while helpful with expert knowledge, there is no pressure to buy. I must have tried out 8 different boats before making my first purchase. I couldnt believe how patient they were and genuinely interested in getting a boat that was just right for me. Cant say enough good things about BayCreek!
Friendly people generous with their time and fill of useful information. Good kayaks & paddles, too!
How often do you visit a business and are 100% happy with the sales, service, facilities, and people. i have purchased two kayaks from dave and friends over the past three years .... and recently participated in the kayak rescue course. it was fantastic. their advice is priceless, their products high quality, and their courses are both entertaining and highly informative. Morgan and her team are likewise expert and friendly. i am looking forward to taking more courses, honing my kayaking skills (for the fun of it), enjoying the magnificent upstate waterways, and in the process both exercising and forming friendships.
Says open till six. Drove two hours to get there at 2:25 and they said they were no longer sending out rentals for the day. Not cool.
We came here every year with school for paddling around the creek. There are great rates and wonderful staff! The paddling is relaxing and gorgeous as well as a great opportunity for wildlife viewing. Highly recommended!
Awesome shop! Great people, great selection and awesome service. I purchased my first stand up paddle board from them, after demoing many, and am super happy with it. Highly recommend them!
Everything that needs to be said about this facility and their kids camp was stated when on the first day I went to pick up my 8 yr old twin grand-kids. The smiles on their faces and the excitement when they told me of the things they were able to do that day said it all. Not only was this worth every penny I spent I plan on signing them up for this next year also. Thank you so much Bay Creek for the memories that they will keep forever and the skills that they learned and will be able to use as we venture forward together on many grand adventures. Money well spent!
Had a great time Kayaking from Ellison Park down Irondequoit Creek to the bay. Everyone was friendly and helpful. I received a gift certificate years ago, and they still honored it, even when I was willing to pay them. Will definitely return. Thanks.
Great place for paddling with interesting things to see as opposed to just paddling the canal.
The prices here a reasonable for rentals and they have plenty of equipment. The staff will take some time to talk to you if you are inexperienced. They offer classes for standup paddle boarding. I enjoy coming here. If you have your own boat/paddle board you can still launch here for a small fee.
I have never had any of my 5 kids come away from any summer camp and wish it would have never ended! My son could not even chose a day or activity he liked the most because he LOVED them all! He learned so much about water safety and quickly became intuitive as a paddler. All kids should come away from summer camps feeling this way!
Great time, staff was wonderful and prices very fair!
So I called ahead to make sure that we could launch while our friends rented and they turned us away because we drove in seperate cars. Funny thing is we ended up renting at the next place because waters were too rough so they lost out on 4 people renting due to one extra car space.
This place is awesome great staff and good equipment
The folks here were very welcome and eager to help us get out on the water. Pricing is fair. Location is nice and quiet. I would recommend this place to others.
Ive been coming here to use the Kayaks from Ellison park and the employees are always so helpful. This year it thundered and rained. We waited the thunder out and went in the rain. We had a blast. No one else out there. We were in survival mode.Great adventure. We made it and had a great appetite.Sun is better but we had a blast trying to maneuver thru the branches and trees.Looking forward to the next time. Thanks so much.
This camp is one of the BEST my 11-year-old son has attended, including sports camps or day camps! Every day campers learn a new paddle activity on the water, and go play in the bay. The group size was small and the counselors were young, energetic, knowledgeable, friendly, and cool. It seemed like the age ranges were close in my sons class, which was good. Different skill levels were accommodated well. My child felt confident on the activity at the end of each day. At the end of the week, the kids made tie-dyed shirts together. Awesome, reasonably-priced camp for kids who love the water! Definitely would recommend!
Great experience here. Ken is solid as both a human and business owner. Prices are fair to competitive but also easily overshadowed by the skill and expertise of staff as well as the breadth of available inventory of new, used and demo equipment. Great value particularly from the perspective of the entry level consumer.
Great price and fun time. Did SUP in the bay and it was a hoot.
My wife and I took the Basics of Kayaking class on Sunday. It was Great. Jeff was awesome. He really took the time to give everyone the attention they needed. We couldnt have asked for a better experience. We are really looking forward to coming back and renting Kayaks in the future. Very good value for the time spent.
My wife and I took the 2-1/2 hour Introduction to Kayaking class, even though wed both kayaked numerous times in the past. We both wondered how they could fill 2-1/2 hours, but it turns out there was a lot to learn! The class was well worth it, and we are now much more confident that we know how to carry the kayak, how to get in and out of the kayak safely, and how to maneuver the kayak in the water properly. Our instructor Dave was knowledgeable and friendly, and the location is perfect for learning to kayak (we even saw a family of ducks, a pair of swans, and a blue heron!) Highly recommended to build your confidence and get you into good paddling habits from the get-go.
I took their basics of kayaking course. The instructor was super kind & approachable. Never patronizing, always informative & helpful. The course itself is very well structured; gives you a great amount of information if you want to look into investing in your own equipment & most importantly makes you feel safe on the water. The views are gorgeous & I feel like I have the basics to continue practicing on my own and work my way up to a more advanced course. The 2.5 hour course was $60 & Ill very likely be a regular renter, where they start of at $20/hr. All the other staff is friendly & informative as well- hard to be unpleasant with views like theirs. So lucky to have this practically in my backyard, highly recommended.
We visited BayCreek Paddling from out of state. Our experience there was wonderful. The staff was helpful and friendly. We had a great time and will definitely come back next time we are in the area.
Wont sell you what you dont need. Have been renting here for almost 30 years. Got lessons for racing the General Clinton Regatta (70 miles!), racing canoe rentals, SUP rentals, kayak rentals (can buy too!). Extensive knowledge base and passionate about the area and paddle sports. You will never will want to visit or talk to a chain store again after visiting here. Located at the entrance to the Irondequoit Creek. No power boats there, very tranquil and peaceful. Can also access the bay from their entrance as well.
My wife, Kathy and I took the basic kayaking course taught by Jeff and we loved it! If you have any worries, forget them! He goes through what you need to know and handles questions putting you at ease. Then along with support staff, we went out as a group and put each step to practice. We highly recommend it!
We loved our experience with the basic stand up paddle board lessons. Neither of us had ever used them before and thought wed fall, but our instructor was excellent and we stayed dry (which is nice because it was in the low 60s outside). I would recommend them to anyone
This is a great place to get on the water, and the boats are in good repair. You can either head up the river to enjoy the reeds and watch the waterfowl, or you can take the under pass under the road into the bay. With a choice of canoes, kayaks, and stand up paddle boards everyone in the family should be happy.
Great experience! It was my first time to ever set foot in a kayak! The instructor was very friendly and helped our group to feel much more confident with kayaking by the end of the session. I will definitely be back to do some solo kayaking! I love that you can rent your kayak and use the shuttle to take you to your starting point so you can end at BayCreek Paddling Center to return rental and have your car parked right in the lot. They make it very easy for beginners. And the staff is sooo FRIENDLY, from the instructor to the person helping you make your reservation over the phone. I highly recommend!!!
My son and I took the Basics of Kayaking course with Jeff as our instructor. We had a great time learning about different kayaks, being fitted to light touring kayaks, and learning how to do the basics (and a few extras) efficiently and safely. Great job Jeff! Ive rented at Bay Creek a couple of times before and highly recommend this class as well as renting here.
These folks are the best. Skilled, kind-hearted and funny! They make me feel comfortable in every new skill I try.
We had the BEST experience here. Was pretty busy on a Wednesday, but all out amazing! We will be going again!
Always a great time kayaking here. The staff is friendly and all the equipment is well maintained. Just sign a waiver and theyll get you out on the water ASAP. Rates are affordable and you pay when youre done so you dont have to stress about time limits.
Absolutely outstanding. Ken was our salesman. He was extremely helpful, and patient (necessary when Im the buyer). Great inventory of canoes, kayaks and stand up paddle boards. Inventory was all of a quality beyond whats available at a sporting goods store. Prices were higher than we expected, but due to higher quality. You can test the boats in the creek right there before you buy.
Awesome time! Loved the final race of the season at the BayCreek Kayak & SUP Cup race. I bought my first sea kayak from Ken and Dave nearly 15 years ago. Since then they have turned me on to several surfskis and standup paddle boards. The place never fails to put a smile on my face.
We recently took the Basics of Kayaking course and it was amazing. The instructor, Jeff, was skilled, he explained things very clearly and he addressed our questions patiently and thoughtfully. His enthusiasm for the sport was evident and contagious. I would recommend this course for anyone who is thinking about putting a kayak in the water.
So glad I took the time to take a Kayaking lesson at BayCreek. I have been looking at kayaks for awhile and now I know what to look for. The instructor and all the staff were terrific. I feel ready to get out on the water this year.
I did the 2 hours secret wilderness tour. It was outstanding. Our guide gave us a great tour as we went pointing out wildlife and giving the early history of the wetlands. first time kayaking, started with a brief lesson on land before starting.
The lesson lasted about 30 minutes with the instructor going through the basics, including different paddle strokes. Very thorough. Groups are no more than 7. Following instruction time, the instructor takes group on about 45 minutes of paddling. Fun experience.Nice area to rent SUP, kayaks. Fully equipped with variety of life jacket sizes. Great atmosphere. Friendly staff.
Was so much fun for me and my son! Lots of wildlife to see and really got to connect with nature! Its a great workout too! And super affordable! Plus a very friendly staff.
This company rents watercraft on a public waterway. With the knowledge that the paths are not marked, they do nothing to provide information about a path to take, despite the fact that the waterway they provide vehicles for has paths that are completely grown over and are extremely easy to get bogged down in. And take no responsibility when a customer gets lost because of it and is overcharged. The staff was apathetic when I notified them of this, and combative when I asked that the remainder of the bill be mailed because I only brought a set amount of cash with me. Very disappointed with my entire experience.
Wish I had found this place a lot sooner! My son and I did the paddle boarding lesson with Ken and it was amazing! Next summer Ill be spending lots of time here. Cant wait to take the next class.
I took the beginning kayak class. Dan was a great instructor. He was very knowledgeable and thorough. I learned a lot and had a great time. Everyone at Bay Creek was very friendly. Its in a great location; very beautiful. I would recommend this class.
Really great, friendly staff. A large assortment of equipment to rent or buy. Dan was a really great instructor for the Basics of Kayaking class I took. Definitely want to go back for the next level class. The area over there is beautiful as well with very easy access to the creek or the bay.
Had a fun stand up paddleboarding lesson last weekend. The instructor was super helpful and we had a great time. I have been for kayak and canoe rentals over the past few years and will continue to visit Bay Creek for some fun on the water. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff.
My husband and I bought paddle boards at BayCreek, after shopping all over the vicinity...We decided to buy from BayCreek because of the superior quality of their paddle boards and equipment, as well the friendly knowledgeable service we received. Ken and Morgan were most helpful in helping us select the paddle boards and equipment that would meet our needs..We highly recommend BayCreek to anyone contemplating getting into paddle sports..David and Cheryl Monroe
Good rental gear. Good rental prices. Amazing staff. Great paddling destination. I encourage anyone interested in kayaking or paddle boarding to check this place out.
